EGG DROP CHALLENGE 2017

Mr. Redican taught you all how to apply what you learned in Science to design and create a contraption that would help your egg survive a 20-25 ft drop. Click here to see a video of one lucky egg who will Iive to see another day......until someone cooks it for breakfast. You all learned through trial and error through the design process to see what worked and what didn't work. The self/peer/teacher assessment and feedback process helped you improve on your designs. Hopefully, all of your eggs survived the 'EGG DROP CHALLENGE'.

IMPORTANT:

If you have a 3 zone bus pass, you only need to bring $18 with your permission slip on Monday.
Return all forms/money by Monday please.

1.) MATH:

Mr. Redican will update your math homework.

2.) NOVEL APPROACH:

Final draft of your powerful response is due on Monday.
Continue working on improving your powerful response based on the criteria/rubric. You will receive your final feedback comments from both of us this evening. You should all have a few things to work on for Saturday and Sunday.
YOU MUST BRING YOUR SELF-ASSESSMENT RUBRIC TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY. YOU WILL COMPLETE YOUR FINAL SELF-ASSESSMENT IN CLASS AND THEN WE WILL UPLOAD THEM TO FRESHGRADE.
Ask questions here if anything is unclear. Send us an email or post a message if you have any questions about your powerful response. I believe everyone will meet expectations for this assignment.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Post a 'PERSONAL' learning reflection (EGG DROP CHALLENGE). Think long and hard about this.
Answer ALL OF the following questions in your learning reflection:

   1.) What did you learn?
   2.) Did you meet the learning intention?
   3.) Did you learn anything else other than the intended learning intention? If so, list some other
   things you learned.
   4.) What did you enjoy?
   5.) What did you not like?
   6.) If you could go back in time, what would you do differently and why?
   7.) List 1 feedback/suggestion someone (friend or teacher) gave you that pushed your thinking
   further to improve your design of your egg drop contraption?

Double check your learning reflection to make sure you answered all 7 of the questions listed above.
Pay attention to the givens: spelling, capitals, grammar, sentence variety, etc.
Ask 2 students questions about the learning reflection.
Edit/revise.

I learned that it matter what you use and how much.
Yes
Nothing
I like that I get to drop and egg by making parachute in a different way.
I didn't like that we didn't do a tournament of who is the best at egg dropping challenge.
That covering most of the space with the parachute will make it fall slowly because all the air will get trapped under it.

1) I learned that you need to protect your egg the best you can to prevent it from cracking or Breaking (Chance and Jacob)
2) Yes. "I can Protect an egg and participate in the Egg dropping challenge."
3) Of course! Here are a few things I learned;
a) I learned that you need more protection than you think.
b) You should always find away to make it weigh less, so the balloons you used can prevent it from dropping down quickly.
4) I enjoyed Having fun and making the project. It reminded me of grade 2 because we were always making new stuff.
5.) I didn't like how everyone's egg survived Exept for Jacob and Chance.
6.) I would fill our balloons with helium and put less weight on the egg so it could go down slowly.
7.) Jacob and Chance
You should of protected the egg a little bit more. Like wrap it in a cloth and cover it.

@Jagger a three zone bus pass works for the skytrain. If don't have one that's OK, but you have to let us know. There is a difference in the price if you do or do not have a bus pass.

1.I learned different ways to protect my egg from breaking

2.I met the learning intention because my egg didn't break

3.I learned that if you give teammates a chance to help it could be really good

4.I enjoyed that we could drop eggs without getting in trouble

5.I did not like that my egg broke when i dropped it from my desk

6.I would let Avy do more work because he has really good ideas

7.When someone said something about a parachute it gave me a idea to use bags and balloons so it would float longer and reduce the impact for the egg

1.) I learned how to protect something fragile from a fall with a bag of random stuff.
2.) I met the learning intention. It was to be able to make a contraption that could keep an egg safe from a fall.
3.) I also learned how to make an efficient parachute because some have holes in them and aren't good as a plastic one.
4.) I enjoyed dropping our egg.
5.) I didn't like it when someone tried to sabotase.
6.) I would just put the egg in the cup and spam tape around.

1)I learned how to properly protect an egg so it won't break from falling and take care of it
2) I met the learning intention because my build worked and protected the egg
3)I learned how to also keep a object in the air longer by using a parachute
4) I liked when we got our treats
5) I didn't like that the people that had their eggs broken got a treat still lol
6) I would go back and fix the parachute and add more balloons because when it fell it seemed like the egg had cracked which scared me

1.) I learned that you can have different kinds of designs for your contraption in order to protect the egg from breaking.
2.) Yes, I met the learning intention.
3.) Hmm, I don't think so...
4.) I enjoyed how everyone was happy dropping the eggs. Including me.
5.) I don't like how everyone doesn't have points/scores on their design and the dropping eggs.
6.) I would have properly helped creating the design. But, the design we had right now is good :)

1.) I learned how to cooperate with people to make a guard around the egg to prevent it from cracking.

2.) I would say that I met 75/100% of the learning intention.

3.) I also learned how to use random materials to make something worthy.

4.) I enjoyed ripping out the contraption to retrieve the egg.

5.) I didn't enjoy the fact that my phone is almost out of memory due to recording the egg drops.

6.) I would be more cooperative and let other peers have a chance to share.

I learned that you need to to be fragile.
I think I did reach the LI because my egg did not crack. Yes. I loved the activities because my egg did not crack. All the project. I would use more balloons. My group did sooooooooooooo good.

2.)I forgot what the learning intention was

4.)It was fun dropping eggs!
5.)I dident like It because we where the only team that lost
6.)I would make a new machine because ours wasent that great
7.)Our group we could of made it more bigger and make the egg softer

@Jacob you did not lose! This is sciencing and sciencing is all about failure. It's about trying ideas out and LEARNING from your mistakes. I bet your next design wouldn't allow the egg to break because of what you learned during this project.

3) Yes, I did! I learned that if you do teamwork in egg drop challenge, egg will get more protected! Because all your team's hard work made the egg avoid from breaking from the fall.
4.) I enjoyed the part that when everyone worked together and tried their best to make their eggs protected as possible
5.) I didn't like it when teams were talking uneducational stuff, and didn't help their team finish
6.) If I could go back in time, I would put my egg in the cup so it wouldn't fall and break like what happened after the egg drop challenge
7.) My team could've helped me when it was the egg drop time. They were doing something like a test downstairs though so I guess that's ok

1) I learned to use your own originality and creations .
2) I think if I did it by myself I would have not meet the L.I , but jasmine and myself did our hardest so I think we did.
3) I also learned that you have to have team to succeed and to keep going.
4) I mostly enjoyed when we had to work together . ( But I wasn't there when the class dropped there egg.)
5) The only part I didn't like was when I couldn't hear the music half the time.
6) I would change our design to one of the ones in the video because it looked cool and it worked in the video. ( But I'm happy with ours)
7) Every time jasmine would say random things that gave me more ideas. And we could work on being more open to ideas?

1} I learned that it is fun to work in teams when we are all following the rules and putting our personal spin on the project.

2} we followed the rules.

3} we followed the instructions.

4} but I think we need to all need to incorporate all our ideas a little bit more.

5}. Maybe plan out what you are gonna do so the project turns out good as possible.

6} we all had fun.

I learned that you have to drop it and make it hit from a certain are so it won't break. Jesse,Amir, and I did meet the L.I. I also learned that everyone else will have similarities and differences. I liked the part when we designed the egg, but I did not like it when we get to noisy. It would destract me sometimes. If I were to go back in time I would not change our design, because our design already did good for me and my group.

I learned it is super easy to crack a egg.
I enjoyed breaking our egg.
I didn't like our sego. It was too easy to break.
I would put more gallons on our project.

I learned that if you have the right maerials you can prevent the egg from cracking. I think I met the learn intention. I learned that you need to work your hardest in a team,in order to succeed. I enjoyed watching eggs drop. I also enjoyed making something to protect the egg. I didn't like that only one person from your team gets to drop it, when it was a team that made the thing the protect it. If I could go back in time I would try not to break some of our materials.

What i learned
What i learned is that if you have enough products and more stuff is that it will land safely and if you don't have enough safe stuff it will land badly.
