Today, you learned how to compare fractions using fraction strips. This is yet another strategy (tool) we can use when we compare fractions. If you were BATMAN, you just added another gadget to your belt!

In writing, we continued learning about different strategies we can use to generate ideas. Using VENN diagrams to come up with similarities and differences on a variety of subjects and topics.

FIELD TRIP: Parent volunteers, please be in the class by 9:50am. We will depart the school at 10:00am promptly to head to the Kerrisdale Arena. Our ice time is from 10:30 - 11:30. We will return by the time lunch begins. Click here for a link to the drivers/students.

Today, we were lucky to have a new student join our class. Zarif recently moved to Canada from Saudi Arabia.
In paragraph/essay format, complete the following.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Include a self-introduction and kind message.
2.) Explain 3 interesting things about how we learn in class. (Eg. The Big 6, how the website
works, how we learn, what C-charts are, Zones of Regulation, self-regulation, mindfulness,
expectations, etc. )
3.) Include examples/details (supporting sentences) for each of the three things you mentioned
above.
4.) Edit/revise your writing based on a self-assessment or feedback from the PAR POLICE.

Greetings! My name is Emily, obviously because it says so above, but that doesn’t matter. Anyways, our class is lucky to have a new member in the learning clan. You are lucky to be in the learning clan because, “THE LEARNING NEVER STOPS!” Fun fact, Mr. Hong and Mr. Fisher say that very often.

Three interesting things we learn in school:
•self-regulation
•zones of regulation
•c-charts

To get a better understanding of SELF-REGULATION, we must figure out what IS self-regulation? In my mind, self-regulation is controlling your mind/emotions, your voice, and your actions. No-one is perfect at self-regulating but we all must try to self-regulate. Why? In short, without self-regulation your life will be a mess. It’s plain and simple.

There are four ZONES OF REGULATION. There is the BLUE zone, GREEN zone, YELLOW zone, and the RED zone. When you are in the blue zone you can be sad or tired. When you are in the green zone you are happy and self regulated. When you are in the yellow zone you are losing your grip on that self-regulation. When you are in the red zone you have completely thrown self-regulation out the window. All gone.

Okay, last one. C-CHARTS. What does C-CHARTS mean? Let me tell you, it means CRITERIA CHART. Criteria charts let us know what is the criteria so that we can follow it and be successful in life! When you are successful you are happy! (Maybe, it depends if the person likes their job. If they don’t, well that stinks...) Everyone wants to be happy right? :)

First of all, you are welcome to be here. I am Adrian Leung. I am a new student too, we can be friends too. When you look around the wall, you might notice that there are some huge poster and sheets on the wall. There are the C-charts, learning intentions and the self-regulations.

The Learning intentions are a goal, to let you reach it. Each time you set a goal you will improve. Learning intentions will be a helpful strategy for your learning.

The C-chart. They are the rules of the classes. We need C-chart to let us know what we should do during a lesson, in the hall ways, or even in P.E. lesson. We need C-chart to help our self-regulations too.

The self-regulation. It is extremely important. We have to self-regulate because sometimes we can't control our emotions and of actions and explode it, it is similar to conflict. And sometimes when we are too excited, our voice will be loud and can't control our actions. That's why self-regulations are so important.

At last, I must tell you is, The Learning Never Stops!!!!

One suggestion you may want to use is to write your work in Google Docs or Microsoft word. It can give you more immediate feedback on your grammar if you do a grammar check.

One of Mr. Hong's favorite quotes is "the learning never stops!" That is very true! The whole point of school is to learn. There are three main ways Division 2 learns.

First, of all, we use C-Charts (Action Criteria Charts). C-Charts are rules for a certain thing (for example: walking in the hallway). They help us regulate and tell us what is expected of us. In conclusion, C-Charts are the basic guidelines of behaviour.
We use the Zones of Regulation to monitor our behaviour. You'll hear Mr. Hong talk a lot about self-regulation and expected/unexpected behaviours. There are four Zones of Regulation. The Blue zone is if you are tired or sick, the Green zone is if you feel calm and regulated, the Yellow zone is if you are either worried or excited, and lastly, the Red zone is if you are out of control (yelling, hitting).

Self-regulating your environment is sitting beside someone you know you will not distract/get distracted by others. Self-regulating your noise level is not shouting, keeping calm, and staying in the Green zone.

Secondly, we follow the Big 6 Learning Principles. Questions, Feedback, Assessments, and more! Questions are very important. They show that you understand what you learn and asking questions helps you deepen your understanding about a certain topic. Descriptive feedback from student/parents/teachers are suggestions to make something even better.

Finally, I'll teach how to use this website. Whenevr you post, you type your first name (if you want, last name) where it says name.
Then, you post your PAR. After posting, you check to see if you have feedback from the PAR Police team or do a self/parent assessment (have your parents edit for you or edit yourself) to post your edited version.

To sum it all up, the three main ways our class learns is through the Big 6 Learning Principles, C-Charts and the Zones of regulation. We use this website to do the PAR.

Also, it is required to write in paragraph formant: topic sentece, 2-3 supporting ideas, comclusion You can also write an essay. After posting, you check to see if you have feedback from the PAR Police team or do a self/parent assessment (have your parents edit for you or edit yourself) to post your edited version.

To sum it all up, the three main ways our class learns is through the Big 6 Learning Principles, C-Charts and the Zones of regulation. We use this website to do the PAR.

Hi Zarif my name is Harmon. some interesting ways we learn in class is class website how it works is you read the daily blurb then you follow the instructions for the PAR. PAR stands for Post And Response. Another way we learn in class is C-charts. C-charts are basically rules of the class. We have C-charts for walking in the halls, durn a lesson, and more. A third way we learn in class is self regulation. Self regulation is all about monitoring your behavior in the classroom.

Welcome to Laurier! My name is Shannon and I'm so happy that you could come and join our fun and fantastic learning environment. You’re very lucky you got Mr.Hong as a teacher. :)

In our class self-regulation is very important to Mr.Hong. This is one of the critical things you'll have to remember throughout this year. Self-regulating is taking control of yourself and being mindful. Some ways you could self-regulate yourself is moving environments if needed, being cautious of your noise level, and just being mindful in general to others. :)

Another thing that we use is c-charts. As a class, we make criteria based charts to show us what we are expected of. We make them as a class because they will mean more to us. You've probably already observed some of the c-charts around the classroom. (Walking in the halls, independent work time, leaving and entering the classroom, and during a lesson).

Mr.Hong uses the big 6 learning principals to help us understand the learning process. This includes asking questions, peer/ self-assessments, and taking ownership of our learning. Mr.Hong says there's scientific study about how these learning principals lead to better students and understanding.

I hope you have fun in our class this year!

@Shannon, your post was very good, but there were minor grammar mistakes. When you wrote “ Mr.Hong says there's a scientific study”, it should be, “ Mr.Hong said there was ‘a’ scientific study”. Another mistake is “ Some ways you could self-regulate yourself is moving environments if needed”. Though your structure is correct, it has to be “ Some ways you could self-regulate yourself is by moving to a different environment”. You cannot move “environments”. However, you can only move yourself. You should add a conclusion, too. For example, “ In conclusion, we use three straighties to learn: the big 6 learning principals, self-regulation, and c-charts”. The last mistake is that you misspelled “principals”. The correct form is “principles”. Overall, your paragraph was excellent.

Hi, my name is Ariel and welcome to Laurier!!
In Division two, the way we learn in class is very interesting and probably quite different from what you experienced.
The C-charts are charts for the teachers and students. The chart has expectations on how you should be behaving and what you are expected to be doing during that lesson or place.

The Big Six Learning Principles are basically the principles that help you become more successful?? Anyways the learning intentions are the intentions that clearly define what the teacher wants you to know, understand and be able to do after. The success criteria are the criteria that the teacher gives you and includes what’s expected so you know what you can do to get extending. Self/peer feedback is when you asses your own work or your peers work using success criteria and looking for some mistakes that you didn’t realize, or your peer didn’t realize.

I would like to welcome our new associate and classmate Zarif. I hope you can find your year to be enjoyable, and we as a class will contribute to assist whenever you require help. As a new member of our grade seven community, there are many different aspects of learning to go through, all that will help you enhance the learning experience. After all, THE LEARNING NEVER STOPS.

Before anything, I would say the most important thing to talk about is the teacher you will have for the whole year, Mr. Hong. Mr. Hong is a man who has shown true dedication to his work, he comes to school everyday with a positive and energetic mood, and he makes sure everyone has the best day everyday. He has been able to teach in such a way in which classes and lectures that would most prominently become a challenge of waiting, into an enjoyable show in which the audience can benefit from it. Everyday you enter the classroom, and you feel this rush of energy giving you that motivation to learn. Without a person as great as Mr. Hong, grade seven would be one of the worst years anyone could have. Thank you Mr. Hong for being such a great teacher, and I wish that you give Zarif the best year of school ever.

Class behavior is incremental to positive learning. Without the right attitude to learn, your overall experience can be greatly hindered. If one happens to be overly energetic, or very incensed, their attention will be spun elsewhere, therefore the end results of your learning will show to be quite disheartening. If one is too milquetoast, they might end up being a victim of verbal bullying, or if one is suffering from despondency, there will be a lack of motivation to show any effort. This is what we describe as the zones of regulation. The zones of regulation is a method to allow a person to understand there behavior and actions, and then ameliorate their activities to allow a superior learning experience. The zones are split into for assigned colours, blue, green, yellow, and red; These colours illustrate four types of actions. Blue is the colour describing the lack of motivation, as I said before, if one is too submissive, or has a severe lack of positive thoughts. If one is in the blue zone, they must first realize this, and then do their best to amend their thoughts and have a more positive outlook on things. I am not immune to entering the blue zone, but these zones allowed me to understand how I was feeling, and I am now working to ameliorate myself to truly enhance my learning. Green is the colour illustrating peak performance. When one is in the green zone they are in a favourable mood, they show auspicious listening, and they greet the day with vehemence. The yellow and red zone illustrate the more adrenalized behavior. This may range from being incredibly livid, to showing signs of anxiety or shakiness. We use these zones of regulation to regulate your actions, and we call that act of regulating your emotions self-regulation. Using these colours, we learn to self-regulate ourselves to give birth to a truly positive learning environment.

When we are unsure of how to act when showed with a task, such as walking in the halls, or how to behave in class, we create something known as c-charts to monitor this comportment. Around our classroom you will see c-charts to allow us to review behaviors during activities. The C in c-charts is short for criteria, criteria is the base rules one must follow to achieve success in a task. We as a class donate suggestions when developing new criteria charts, to create an equitable system that all students may grow to enjoy. From my own experiences in this class, I am able to deduct that c-charts are more beneficial to learning compared to simply being given a set amount of instructions. c-charts are like crutches to help support us when we are unsure of what to do.

Learning is what school is for, but how do you learn? This is all explained using the BIG SIX LEARNING PRINCIPLES. The six principles of learning show us the process of how we learn and improve our work. On the right wall of the classroom, you will see a section of said wall illustrating all six principles. Use them to enhance how you learn.

I hope Zarif has a wonderful grade 7 year, and I look forward to working with him in the future.

Hi! مرحبا! I'm Colin W and i'm glad to see you now in Canada from south Arabia. You said that you're school was mean, but schools in Canada are nicer because, they don't lock anyone out of school or do pop quizzes every day. Anyways, I will intruduce you to the way that we, not necessary in Arabia learn. There are many ways.

One of the things we learn at school are including the big six. If you wonder, what is a big six, It's not like a SIX, but it's six important stuff in the process of learning. From the learning intention, or should I say the rules of the activity to the reflection which is reflecting on you're work, like, what was you're best part, what will you work on next time? Questions and feedback are important too, also in the big six. Questions, make you smarter because questions make answers! And feedback is given by someone else, because sometimes, you don't know if you get a mistake, only someone else knows.

Another thing are C-Charts, also known as Criteria-Charts. Those help you know what to do or not to do if you are, for instance doing work. Our class has many C-Charts, from walking in the halls, to during a lesson. Mr. Hong reads the C- Charts when neccesary, because they are really important. Without them, you might forget, That you can't do this, or that. Then anyone can get silly, and the room will be a disaster. When there are C-Charts, you can behave and self-regulate when possible. That's why there are C-Charts are important.

Wait, you might not know what self regulation is. Self regulation is when you stay calm and happy, so you are in the green zone, of the zones of regulation. The zones of regulation is split into four part, a red, a yellow, a green, and a blue. Blue means that you're sad or bored. Green means you're happy, yellow is when you get frustrated or discombobulated or frustrated by what discombobulated means.( That's confusing!) red is when you get totally out of control. You shouldn't go to the red zone. It's like you're going into a DANGER: SNAKES AND RATS. DO NOT PAST SIGN zone. That's the zones of regulation. You can go to last Friday, November 23 2018 and watch the video on self regulation.

At last, I should tell you about how we use the website, mrhongsclass.com. Everyday, we will go on the website, and type a paragraph on what the website tells you to do. Anyways, I will introduce you to the way that we, not necessary in Arabia learn. There are many ways.

One of the things we learn at school are including the big six. If you wonder, what is a big six, It's not like a SIX, but it's six important stuff in the process of learning. Welcome to Laurier! My name is Anita and I am happy that you can join our" learning team".
In this class( division two), we learn in a very fun ways, and you probably haven't done this before.

Self-regulation is very important in our class, you'll have to remember this thing in this year because it is one of the thing on our criteria. Self-regulating can reminds you of what you should do or what you shouldn't do, it can also helps you control yourself and been mindful. Something you could do to self-regulate is: be mindful of your noise level and self-regulate your environment.

Also, in this class, we use C-charts. We make criteria to show us how we did and what we did. You could see a lots of the C-charts surrounding us(During lessons, walking in the halls and independent work time.)

Lastly, we follow the Big 6 Learning Principles.(Questions, Feedback, Assessments,) A descriptive feedback means: making yourself and others better.Self-Assessments is to know what you didn't do, Peer-Assessment is to let other people give you feedback about what you did and getting more better.

Hello Zarif. My name is Priya. Some things you didn’t know about me is I take karate and swimming lessons. I love reading,drawing, listening to music.

The 3 interesting things we learned from Mr. Hong are the C-charts, the BIG 6 learning principles and zones of regulation. The C-charts are charts that help us focus on task. The BIG learning principles are principles that help us with projects. The zones of regulation helps us self-regulate. The zones are red, blue, yellow and green.

The C-CHART AKA criteria chart tells students and teachers what to do in different situations (eg. During A Lesson, Independent Work Time, Walking Down The Hall)

Self regulation is important because it keeps the classroom cool and nobody shouts in a megaphone. It also prevents Mr. Hong from loosing his sanity and so he doesn't punish us with detention.

Last but not least, T.L.N.S! (The Learning Never Stops!)

Hello! My name is Breanna. I’m a student in Mr. Hong’s, and I am in grade seven. I’m that weird person in the corner who tries and makes jokes, and people laugh I guess. (see how funny I am :)) I hope you enjoy our school, and feel at home with all the new students welcoming you, and making you feel at home!

The first thing I’m going to talk about is, self-regulation! Now self-regulation is a big thing in our class. As you could probably tell today, everyone in our class knows about this. We must self-regulate so we do not get out of control, and that we can be mindful of the noise level. There are other reasons, but those are really the main reasons behind this. Our class always tries hard to achieve self-regulation for a long time, and one day I hope we can achieve that!

Second thing I will talk about is, C-Charts! They help us by Mr. Hong always reminding us to look at them so we know what the expectations are during a lesson, walking in the hallways, independent work time, etc. This helps us achieve us being mindful of what of voice level is, not being disrespectful, and other things like that. We should always follow the C-Chart, but sometimes we don’t. One day, we will achieve this!

Now for mindfulness. I’ve mentioned this before in my previous paragraph, but this is very important because if your not being mindful about your peers, your teachers, and strangers. Mindfulness is good to learn because if you don’t, your manners will be very rude! You shouldn’t be rude to anyone. Mindfulness could also mean, you being mindful about your surroundings. You don’t want to use someone else’s pencil then break it without being mindful of what you just did.

This is very important and I hope our class can improve on all of these things I have just mentioned. By the end of the year I hope Mr. Hong will see how much we have changed over this year! I hope we’ve improved a lot.

Hello Zarif. My name is Olivia and I am very glad that you come to our class. First, of all, we use C-Charts (Action Criteria Charts). C-Charts are rules for a certain thing, as a class, we make criteria based charts to show us what we are expected of (Walking in the halls, independent work time, leaving and entering the classroom, and during a lesson). We make them as a class because then they will mean more to us.
Secondly, we follow the Big 6 Learning Principles.This includes asking questions, peer/ self-assessments, and taking ownership of our learning. Questions, Feedback, Assessments, and more! Questions are very important. They show that you understand what you learn and asking questions helps you deepen your understanding about a certain topic. And Feedback is also important because we can get Descriptive feedback from other and make something even better the next time.
Last but not the least we use the Zones of Regulation to monitor our behaviour. And I think you've heard Mr. Hong talk a lot about self-regulation and expected/unexpected behaviours already.

Hi Zarif! Welcome to the class of Div 2.

My name is Miranda (look above) and I really like to read. I also like to draw, and although I don't draw as much as Victoria, I can actually make things look nice! Another thing is that I play the piano and violin (as you can see from music) and I like it a lot. By the way if you think that I came to Laurier a long time ago, you are wrong! I am new to the school... nice to meet you!

Now, three things that you need to learn to survive in Mr. Hong's class are below. First, you need to learn what the C-Charts (A.K.A criteria charts) are. We made them at the beginning of the year, and they have points that both the teachers and students need to follow. For example for walking in the halls, the students may have to walk on the right side, self-regulate, and not distract others. The teachers will have to make the instructions clear, be a good role-model, and remind students what to do.

The second thing is to learn about the Zones of Regulation. Again, at the beginning of the year, we learned about four zones: Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. As you may have guessed, the green zone is the best zone to be in as it means to be excited, happy and calm. Meanwhile, blue means tired, worried and somewhat bored which is more like the slower version of the green zone. The yellow zone is the "danger" zone, which means frustrated and losing control, and often the people in the yellow zone continue into the red zone, which means out of control and angry. The point to this is that if we feel that we are feeling something different than usual, we analyze which zone we are in first, and that usually helps us calm down. (Self-regulation technique RIGHT THERE!)

Lastly, you need to know how the website actually works to do the homework. So, you go to mrhongsclass.com and it brings you to this page. You go down to the most recent post my Mr. Hong and read EVERYTHING that's there. Yes, everything. Otherwise you might miss some things... Anyways, you look at the Post a Response part of the post and read it. That's basically what you have to do every time. To actually post, you click on comments, write your name, and do your P.A.R. Sometimes you have to give feedback (tell others what to improve on) and then revise the post (improve your own post). Some extras are that the pictures on the right side of the page is the feed from Mr. Hong's Twitter and Instagram accounts and if you have to see some previous posts, you can scroll to Archives and the posts are all there!

Well, hope this helps as a guide to survive Mr. Hong's classroom. :)

Our teacher, Mr. Hong, always says “The learning never stops!”. It means you will always learn regardless of places. Furthermore, I will introduce how we learn in Division 2. There are three major learning strategies: Self-Regulation, C-Charts, and Learning principles.
Self-regulation is a crucial skill required in school, at home, or at work. It is significant because it helps you control your behaviour and mood. We use the zones of regulation to help us regulate. There are four zones of regulation: green zone, red zone, the blue zone, and yellow zone. if you are in the green zone, you are regulated and calm. I call it the “learning zone”. You must be in the green zone during your class. Furthermore, the red zone is the state you are mad, out of control, and not ready to learn. Moreover, the yellow zone indicates that you are hyper, excited, wiggly. In other words, you are still not ready to learn. Lastly, the blue zone is the situation you are sad, depressed, tired, or sick. Therefore, self-regulation helps you improve your performance.

We correspondingly use C-Charts, known as Action Criteria Charts, to regulate our performance. C-Charts are a set of rules for a certain preoccupation. For instance, independent work is a certain preoccupation. C-Charts help us regulate ourselves and tell us what is anticipated from us.

The last thing we use is the “Big 6 Learning Principles”. The big 6 learning principles include Questions, Feedback, Assessments, and etc. To elaborate further, we follow the Big 6 Learning Principles to perfect a project. Questions are vital in your learning. It shows that you comprehend what you learn. As a result, asking questions will deepen your understanding. Peer descriptive feedback is for others to give you suggestions. Thus, using this strategy will benefit your

Hello my name is Sameer Malik, I like to play basketball, build computer, and I'm very into boxing. Today it was nice to chat with Zarif and get to know someone from a place I've never been. Chatting with Zarif i found some things we have in common such as how he plays fortnite on pc and how he is Muslim just like me. I hope to learn more Zarif and get to know about how life is in Suadi Arabia.

1. Mr hong is very unique when it comes to teaching because he stays enthusiastic at all all time which give me a learning vibe. One thing that I really like about Mr.hong is that we all make criteria that helps us focus and stay on tasks during work time. With almost all years I've been going to school no one has used a strategy like that to help their students learn.

2. Mr.hong's amazing catchphrases I all ways think of these catchphrases when doing work because they help me remember strategies. The most helpful one Mr.hong says is "we dont use are eyes when we visualize" the reason this helps is because when trying to brain I close my eyes and try to visualize an image that I can write about.

3. Mr.hong's website is very helpful too, because of sick or gone away all you need to do is get on the website and look through the work and you will be up to date with all homework.

Hi Zarif, I’m Wendy and welcome to join us for learning! In our class, there are 3 most important ways to learn. “The c-charts, self-regulation and the Big 6 Learning Principals.”

What is c-charts? C-charts are basically rules that we created as a class. For example, during a class. We shouldn’t chat with our friends, we all should be listening carefully to the speaker. For walking in the hallway, we need to walk calmly on the correct side, which depends on what direction are you come from.

The self-regulation, self-regulation is extremely important in our class. It means to understand how and when you need to self-regulate. It helps you to control your emotions and behaviors in schools. For example, I lost my new erase in the morning, because I only use it for 3 weeks so it put me in the blue (sad) and red (mad) zone. When it’s time for the next lesson, I realized I should pull myself up, and get back to learning.

Now, for the last one. The Big 6 Learning Principals. It can be also known as the process of learning. Let’s pick one, for example, the “Question.” We all have to ask when we’re unsure about something because of that how we learned and improved. Another example would be the “Descriptive feedback” in order to improve yourself at learning, you will receive feedback from teachers and other students. It’s some ideas and suggestions on how you can do something better.

#1 If your the kind of person that needs a good teacher that will always support u in all sort of different ways like for instance I am struggling to study for our math test! Mr.Hong will always be there fr everyone in the entire class and one thing u can already notice that Mr.Hong is a VERY ENTHUSIASTIC teacher and is ready to give feedback every single time!

#2 Mr.Hong is also very interested in novel approach, which basically means using reading strategy's to understand lots of things and in a few days u will be able to read anything!!!

Ways on how we learn is class:
We learn by visualizing and also comprehension which means improving my understanding and others. Some people also read a head which means reading a head and then when they don’t understand something they stop and think or stop and ask a friend. You can also use a dictionary by finding in your classroom or use a device. Sometimes you can’t use a dictionary because if in your a test that is considered cheating. It’s also not hard to find the word in a dictionary but I think it’s easier to find it in device so I recommended you using it.

Hi, I’m sophia and I wanted to let you know that you walked into the world of learning yesterday. I can really understand where you are coming from. I come from Iran and there there was long school hours flat houses and people who believed that little girls should stay home and help their parents. But any ways some interesting things about my are:

1: I am very unlucky.

2: I love sports, some of the sports I like are track and field, dance, soccer, swimming and skating. There are lots more sports I like but I can’t think of them right now.

3. I can play sports with both my hands except basket ball. And I control the ball with my left foot and kick with my write.ther are only a few things that I can’t do with both hand.
A: I can only shoot a basketball with my right hand. I can do a better cart wheel with my right hand and can only wright with my right hand. I can only snap with my left hand i can do any spin better on my left foot and am better at starting to run on my left foot.

Hi my name is Daniel the guy that was playing with you at the volleyball, nice to meet you so I am a grade six and I came from China two years ago.My English is not good at all hope you can understand.

First we have the big six, help us on the six ways to get better at learning, ask questions that is my favorite one in the big six. Before I don’t really ask that much question, but now nonono.

Now is the c charts, we have a lot of c charts around the class room. Basically what is this is a that is a cataria that help us to work on things that we do in the classroom. Cataria are all for students and teachers.
