Students worked on their Kandinsky concentric circle artwork this afternoon!

Today, students were given time to update their Fresh Grade portfolios. To their assignments, they added learning reflections, screenshots, and photos for parents/guardians to view. This is a key step in student learning as it allows them to reconnect with learning intentions and engage in self/peer assessments, allowing students to take ownership of their learning through the magic of The Big 6 Learning Principles!

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Over the past few weeks we've been understanding the importance of the Writing Traits. Most recently, we've been learning why conventions in writing are so important.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain why writing conventions are important inside and outside of school.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:

1.) Watch this video and explain in a paragraph why conventions in writing are so important at school and outside of school. Give an example of where OR when writing conventions are important (e.g. a road sign because...).
2.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
3.) Check for the givens (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure).
4.) Post a self-assessment based on the above criteria and edit/revise your post.

Have you ever used question marks? Do you write on a daily basis? Writing conventions are all used to copy the way we talk and how we express things, and it’s quite important actually. Now let’s say you are a student writing a story, we would obviously use some speech marks every time a character spoke and the basics. These writing conventions have become an essential in our society we created, it is to... you guessed it! Writing conventions are used to copy how we speak, everything comes back in a circle like before. If you are writing your story you wouldn’t just want blank space at the end of every sentence, you would want to put in periods, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and much more. These writing conventions give us the opportunity to express the characters feelings. It’s like instead of being a stick man, you’re a human (which I hope everyone reading this is 0.0). Though, even though we are limited to the same amount of materials, we all write in different styles, different ways, different stories all leading to different outcomes. If you don’t use it correctly or have a typo in your story, it’s not going to be...... your ideal outcome. But what am I to say! I still am learning and that’s the beauty to it, we can always keep learning and reach our goals. In the end of the day, writing conventions is just a set of rules that make our lives easier. Without these writing conventions, this paragraph would have been harder to really focus on and quite boring. (BUT WE HAVE WRITING CONVENTIONS SO NO NEED TO IMAGINE LOL)

“That has a proper comma added and sounds better.“ Does not sound graceful, Maybe something like: now that a comma was added it sounds way better

Do you write a lot? Do you like to write? If you do conventions are something that is very important in your writing. Conventions are things like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. One of the reasons is that it can help you in real life, not just in your writing. For example, let's say you are making a stop sign for the road. Now people will still be able to tell that it says stop if it's not capitalized and there really isn't grammar in a one word sign. But if you misspell it, and it says "tsoop" then maybe someone will just keep on going and not stop, and it could lead to big things, like a car crash, or even worse, a death. And one time I saw that someone made a sign for the airport that said that you weren't allowed to bring in weapons, some other things, fruit, plants, etc. But they forgot to put a comma between fruit and plants so it said "Fruit Plants". People started bringing in fruit and plants because the sign said that you weren't allowed to. Later the people who made that sign got sued for a couple million dollars. So to sum up, grammar matters, and can make a difference. Use Grammar!

Do you write? Do you like to write a lot? If you do, conventions are something that is very important in your writing. Conventions are things like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. One of the reasons of why it is important is because it can help you in real life, not just in your writing. For example, let's say you are making a stop sign for the road. Dear Dylan, you have a great paragraph but maybe next time try to include something more relatable. Like writing a paragraph for your boss, school, goodbye letter, ect.

EMPHASIS ON INCLUDE, I really liked the other examples just INCLUDE something that we can relate to.

Conventions are the building blocks of writing and establishing habits to check your conventions is a vital part of writing. Writing conventions are Important to say the least. Imagine applying for a special program in school. They were checking the extensive essay you wrote about who you are, when they were surprised by a mountain of mistakes. Because of those silly mistakes you did not get in. The same thing applies for jobs, promotions, school, ect. By making a mistake in your writing like a sign by road, or in a document explaining a patient’s history, having no convention mistakes matter.

Yesterday's PAR told us to explain word choice and how important it is. Today we are to explain conventions. Conventions are important because without them, writing can look bad and disorganized, even if the idea is interesting. For example, a paragraph filled with spelling mistakes might not make the reader feel the targeted emotion, compared to a paragraph with perfect spelling. Some more examples of missing conventions are grammar and punctuation mistakes. Grammar mistakes happen when the author uses words in the wrong way. Punctuation mistakes happen when an author doesn't or incorrectly uses the punctuation marks: ! , ( ; : ' " [ and more, but those are the main ones. In short, having convention errors can really take away from the writing piece as a whole, even if it has a good idea.

What is writing conventions? Have you ever heard of that before? Well, today I will be explaining what it means and why it is so important outside and inside of school. Writing conventions are extremely important when you are working, when you're at school, creating a document and even when you are texting your friends. It is important because it makes sentences more understandable for the reader. Writing conventions can include things like periods, question marks, commas, etc. It also helps with your grammar, sometimes without using writing conventions, your writing will be wrong. For example, this sentence is using writing conventions, "I have a book about Star Wars, another one about lightsabers and one about Lego. What do you have?”. This is a sentence without writing conventions,” I have a book about Star Wars another one about lightsabers and one about Lego what do you have”.

Do you know why conventions are important? Based on my back ground knowledge, I think conventions are important because they could help your future life to be better. For example, it could help your writing skills when your working where grammar is very important. Based from the video, I think not utilizing conventions will not only affect poorly to writing, but to speaking as well because you will have a habit of doing that if you don't use conventions correctly. For example, "I have a dog his name is max." You can notice that this statement doesn't have a period between the word, "dog" and "his." Also, you can see that "max" is not capitalized. If you correct all of this, it would be like this. "I have a dog. His name is Max." Do you see the change? This is why conventions are important.

Have you ever read a article or story that had no convention's? Well, let me start off by telling you what conventions even mean! Convention's is adding punctuations in your paragraph, grammar, spelling etc. If you don't add these things in your paragraph or what ever your writting, you and the reader would be so tired after reading it. Imagine reading a paragraph with no punctuations, you would be reading like a robot because there would be no exclamation marks where a part of the story sounds exciting. You would also be running out of breath after reading it because there is no periods. So, always remember to check your work after handing it in!

In your first sentence, I found 1 grammar mistake and 1 unneeded punctuation. That 1 unneeded punctuation can be found all over the paragraph. Try to find what it is by reading other people's paragraphs :)

Writing conventions are the essentials to writing readable work. Without conventions, readers wouldn't know what ideas we are trying to express. Without conventions, our writing would simply be a piece of unorganized words that have no meaning. A great example of why punctuation is fundamental is "Lets eat grandma." Normally, without any writing conventions in place, the reader would think that the author is a cannibal. Instead, we add a comma so it becomes "lets eat, grandma", which makes a lot more sense. Another reason why conventions are so crucial is to have an organized and easy-to-read paragraph. Writing conventions are key components in writing great paragraphs, and we should all check for it!

I think it is important because let’s say you have a really good paragraph and there are no full stops in it. Then you wood just be reading it really fast and you might run out of breath. Adding conventions can make a make reading a story easier to understand for others too. People might think conventions are a school thing but really you use it in your everyday life. For example when your reading a book or even just talking with your friends. Just like in school you should add a full stop outside of school too because it just makes your words more clear a nice when you stop for a bit of time. When you write always remember to check your grammar and also when you are speaking, because it is really important in your life, for example if you are having an interview. If I say something with incorrect grammar my dad always corrects me. Even if it might get annoying I know that will help me. I hope from now on I will always use conventions for anything because it is extremely important!

Do you know what grammar is? Correct spelling, punctuation and of course Grammar are a few examples for it. Grammar is important because people will not understand what you are saying or texting. conversations need proper grammar so therefore i am unable to can, to text properly if it relies on proper grammar. it needs periods so you don't run out of breath. YOU need to check you're grammar before saying it out loud or before texting it.

For example, lets say someone is writing an Email, an important Email, one to get a job interview. This Email would be the persons first impression, if the Email is not fluent, hard to read and overall plain. the person reading it, will likely chose someone else over them. That would be because the text is not appealing, it may have bad sentence structure and fluency, bad grammar, or choppy text. The human brain like things to be easy, and interesting, if the text is complex, choppy and plain, that does not make anyone want to read it. Its just like a hook, "You may have started off on the right foot, but failing is a possibility" -Me... What I just said, is that you may have started off with a good hook, but if the text is bad the reader will most likely stop reading half way through the text.

The conventions of writing are important for everyday life and during school because it can help you when you write a paragraph or any type of writing such as, email, essay, paragraph writing, and advertising a product. An example, lets say if you are advertising a product and you have a ok paragraph and you think is a good script for influencing people to buy your product, but that's where writing conventions come in handy. Writing conventions can be a game changer for any thing from a paragraph to a product advertisment. That's why writing conventions come in handy.

In school, it is important to use the conventions for LA. This is mainly because if you do not, you will get bad marks. Also, if you use the conventions, you look a lot smarter. If you never put periods, then people will see you as not as much. They will assume that you can not do as much as others. Outside of school, conventions are important when sending emails. If you work as a teacher, students and colleagues would not take you seriously. Your boss (or bosses), might not want you to teach anymore, and you would lose your job. So, from a full stop to speech marks, you have the Writing Conventions.

Have you ever used question marks? Do you write on a daily basis? Writing conventions are all used to copy the way we talk and how we express things, and it’s quite important actually. Now let’s say you are a student writing a story, we would obviously use some speech marks every time a character spoke and the basics. These writing conventions have become an essential in our society we created, it is to... you guessed it! Writing conventions are used to copy how we speak, everything comes back in a circle like before. If you are writing your story you wouldn’t just want blank space at the end of every sentence, you would want to put in periods, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and much more. These writing conventions give us the opportunity to express the characters feelings. It’s like instead of being a stick man, you’re a human (which I hope everyone reading this is 0.0). Though, even though we are limited to the same amount of materials, we all write in different styles, different ways, different stories all leading to different outcomes. If you don’t use it correctly or have a typo in your story, it’s not going to be...... your ideal outcome. But what am I to say! I still am learning and that’s the beauty to it, we can always keep learning and reach our goals. In the end of the day, writing conventions is just a set of rules that make our lives easier. Without these writing conventions, this paragraph would have been harder to really focus on and quite boring. (BUT WE HAVE WRITING CONVENTIONS SO NO NEED TO IMAGINE LOL)

These are some examples of conventions. A full stop, question marks, commas, and speech marks (. ? , "). Why are conventions so important? If there was no conventions, it would be really weird and it will NOT sound like when you are talking. I f there was no full stops in a paragraph, it would be really tiring trying to read the paragraph because you can't stop speaking. Now, when are conbentions important? There are conventions that are used in different places. I think full stops are really important in paragraphs because paragraphs use a lot of full stops.
