FRIDAY: CAARP TEST AND THE ELECTIONS

10/9/2015

Today, Miss Bonhert and Mrs. D were in charge. I assume all of you were very respectful and followed the Hillcrest R.O.L.E.S.. Click on the orange pic on the left to watch a video I made for all of you!

In class today, you continued working on your critical thinking skills by learning how to research for reliable sources. Many of you are getting the hang of finding online sources and distinguishing if it is reliable or not. This weekend's post a response is to make sure you complete your Social Studies homework from class. This includes answering each bullet from your news article. If you can find your news article again, feel free to post the link to your post.

2.) MATH 6:

Any unfinished work from the previous day. Check yesterday's post.
Remember, there will not be a mid chapter quiz on Tuesday. You have already been assessed on the material you have learned up to this point.

2.) POST A RESPONSE/SOCIAL STUDIES: (IN CLASS ASSIGNMENT)

Based on your CAARP TEST handout and the news article you have reserached with Miss Bonhert this morning, go through each section of the CAARP TEST and explain why the news article you found is a reliable source of information.
Explain each bullet point for each section of the CAARP test and how your article meets the criteria for a reliable source.
Do This with 4-5 sentence for each section of the CAARP TEST. Don't forget to make your sentences as fluid as possible! DO NOT JUST ANSWER ONE BULLET POINT FOR EACH LETTER!

Today we did CAARP (CRAAP) and I found a website and evaluated it.

C-It is current, because it was posted yesterday.
A-CBC News is the author, I couldn't find the specific writer though.
A-The news is very accurate, I looked at some other news and they said pretty much the same things.
R-I never found a spot where it went off topic, except for side adds.
P-The purpose is Aboriginals having to vote elsewhere.

That is my full evaluation on "Elections Canada Pilot Project Lets Students, Aboriginal People Vote Far From Home."

Today we learned about "Elections Canada pilot project lets students and aboriginal people vote far from home".And me and chicken(that last post was a joke by chicken).Did the C.A.A.R.P.(C.R.A.A.P.)test

Currency the article we read was made yesterday so that is very current.

Authority CBC wrote it so that in my opinion that is very reliable

Accurate the news is very accurate so it is still reliable

Relevance I didn't see a single thing off topic

Purpose it was there for the people that this effects

our website is current because it was updated today. The author didnt say a specific author it just said wikipedia. It didn't go off topic during when we read it. Its relevent because it talks about the election the whole time. The purpose is for the people to get to know about the canidates for the election

Today me and my partner wen they on the www.torontosun.com website to find information about the Liberal party and here is the CAARP test for the website we looked at...

A- Accuracy it is accurate because, it is about the liberals and the that is what we searched the article is about the Tories and the Liberals tied as election heads to home stretch. The Tories are the other leading parties so the conservatives and the NDP's.

Today me and my partner went on the website : www.torontosun.com we originally searched information about the Liberals and the other leading parties.
The website met the criteria for the CAARP test...

A-Authority the author who wrote the article is named David Akin.
A-Accuracy the article\website was accurate because,it specifically answered the questions that my partner and I were wanting to get answered. It was also accurate because we wanted to find information about the Liberals and it had a lot of information there.

C- It was current because it was posted October 8 2015 but it has not been updated since.
A- The author put his name under the picture Chis Glover/CBC NEWS.
A- Chris Glover didn't make any grammar mistakes at least that I noticed.
R- Chris glover only talked about the people 18 - 24 who are eligible.
P- The purpose of the article is to reach out to 18 - 24 year olds who chose not to vote last year or couldn't vote. The solutions that have come up are that those students get a practice vote at their campus or home riding.

Today I looked at an article called "Tories, Liberals tied as election heads to home stretch." I used the CAARP test and this website is reliable.

C- This website current, since it was posted on October 9th 2015 at 6:23am and updated at 6:36am.

A- The author is David Akin, and he is a Parliamentary Bureau Chief. The website is called the Toronto Sun, and it is a Toronto newspaper.

A- This article is accurate in information, as most of the information I knew from my background knowledge.

R- The main part of this article is the percentages of each parties probability to win. The article does not stray from that and is relevant in every part. Except for the Google Ads.

P- The purpose of this article is to inform people of a general idea of who might win the elections. It is neutral and not biased with the authors point of view on who they think should win.

This article was very RELIABLE!

Currency- I know that the information is current because the date is on September 18 2015 at 11:58 pm.

Authority- The author is Stephanie Levitz, she is a reporter from the Parliament Hill Canadian press. She has many other articles about the election and the issues that the government of Canada faces..

Accuracy- The Information is supported by pictures, and there are some information about interviewing people that went through this issue. For example, Zuner Ishaq is struggling with this and came open to it with the press about the Niqab problem. As far as I know, I have not seen any errors with this website, such as spelling, or grammar.

Relevance- As far as I know this article is on topic. Also, the intended audience is probably your average adult due to the vocabulary, probably most children will not understand this. Compared to other sources I find this information most fitting for my article.

Purpose- The intended use of this information I think is to inform people of the issue. I know that the information is not biased because the author appears not to be Islam or Muslim.
