Friday: Chemistry

We were all amazed and in awe of the introductory Chemistry lesson taught by Ms. Fei! We learned how interesting chemistry can be and it sparked excitement among all of you! On Monday, we will dive deeper into the wonderful world of Science and you will research and learn about things that you are genuinely interested in! To prepare for Monday's Science lesson, watch this video on the different states of matter!

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work (Review worksheets, textbook questions, etc)
MATH 7: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.

2.) SHOWCASED BLOG:

Visit Ms. Fei's Student Teacher Blog and comment on her learning. Like you, Ms. Fei is a student teacher and she is learning about amazing ways to teach you!

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE:

Watch this video and in your own words, answer the following questions to the best of your abilities. Bee sure to describe each of them in terms of their shape, volume, and space between the particles:

A solid is a substance that have a fixed shape (and the elements that make it up is packed tightly together)

A liquid is a substance that have a fixed volume (and the element that make it up is able to move more freely that that of a solid)

A gas does not have a fixed shape or fixed volume (and the elements that make it up is able to move even more freely that a liquid)

A solid is a definite shape and a definite volume. A solid has definite shape because you can see its shape and it will not change. A solid also, has volume which means it takes up space. A solid also, has really tight molecules so that means if you pick it up it will not move around instead it will stay solid again, those molecules are very tight and push together so they will not move.

A liquid has no definite shape but a definite volume. A liquid has no definite shape because if you put juice in a fat glass it will not stay in that shape because you could poor it in a tall skinny glass and it would take the same amount of area. A liquid has definite volume because the molecules are clumped together but they can still move around because they have wiggle room which is free space.

A gas has no definite shape or volume. A gas has no definite shape because the particles are free to move around where ever they want to. You can't measure the volume because it will just float away because the particles in gas can move were ever they feel like.

GAS- gas can only move in a different direction if it collides with another object.

LIQUID- liquid has volume and makes the shape of what they are inside of.

SOLID- solids stay together in one form and have volume.

A solid is a substance is something that has a definite shape, it can not be bent or moved, except with force. It also has a definite volume. Particles that are in this are packed together. It stays still.

A liquid is a substance is something that does not have a definite shape because you could change the form, but it has a definite volume. The particles in this aren't so packed, but they have some room to move.

A gas is a substance is something that does not have a definite shape or volume, because it can move around. The particles are is just going crazy. Like Kindergarteners.

A solid's particles are tightly pressed together so that they don't move. They have a definite shape and volume. Eg. cat, human, goat, pie, rock, shoe.

A liquid's particles are put together but aren't jam packed like solids are. They can move around into different shapes but keep the same volume. Eg. water, juice, tea.

A gas's particles aren't put together. They jump around and and can have any shape or volume. Eg. steam, oxegon, air, smoke.

@ Mr. Hong - I was telling my mom about what we were doing in school and about the events that happen after the Chinese New Year that we learned about in school like the lantern festival. We decided to check and see if there's anything available to the public to go to and see because we love to go to Vancouver's china town.

P.S. You're lucky to live in Vancouver! We love to go there.

Gasses are a shape and volume of a container. They change direction only when they hit each other or a wall.

Liquids have a definite volume, they also assume the shape of there containers. The particles collide with the other particles, they are also in thick positions.

Solids have a definite shape and volume, particles only collide with near neighbors

What is a solid?- A solid has a fixed shape. And are in fixed position.

What is a liquid?- liquid has no shape of its own. And assume the shape of there container.

What is gas?- They are in a straight line and a completely random manner. They only change direction when they collide with each other.

GAS -
Particles of gas are separated and move in straight lines. They will only change direction if they are collided. It does not have a definite shape or volume. Eg.) Oxygen.

LIQUIDS -
Liquids have definite volume and make the shape of whatever they are inside. The particles are close together, motion is random, but very limited. When the container is spilled, the particles stay close together. Eg.) Water.

SOLIDS -
Solid have definite shape and volume, the particles stay together in one position. They only collide with near solids. Eg.) Honey Badger.

1) A solid is an object that has definite shape of volume, for example, an ice cube.

2) Liquid are particles that are close to each other but not so close that there a solid(They can still move around). For example, Kool aid, water, pop...etc.

3) Gas can go everywhere because there is no definite shape or volume. They are all mostly separate and they each go there own way. For example; gas, oxygen, air... Just like the video said, "There running around crazy like kindergartens."

Solid: A solid is an object, item are anything that is compressed together to form something That won't breakdown easily, evaporate, or disperse. A solid is in any form being stuck onto another, an example is like gum though it is part liquid. A solid's atoms are pressed together making almost a barrier.

Liquid: A liquid is almost water though they all vary from each other. There form and shape is in any form though they split apart very easily. They evaporate in intense heat, aren't quite compressed and when pushed towards another liquid, they would normally bond together. The atoms are spread out in the liquid so they make a slippery texture.

Gas: Gases are the most flexible even though they don't have form. They are sometimes dangerous and can let tings be moved through them. One example of gases is evaporated water, or clouds. the atoms are very spread form each other making a "nothingness" texture even though they can they compressed if done correctly.

Example: Ice is a solid, water is a liquid, clouds or steam are gases though the are all the same thing.

Liquid- Is a volume that barley moves around it praticly just stays in the same spot. They make shapes the shapes that they make are the shapes that they are in so they make the shape of what ever they are in.

Solids- Is a volume that does not move they are all basiclly stuck together but they only hit with close neghbours.

Gas- Moves in straghit lines and only change directions when they colide with other neghbours.

Liquid: Just like gas particles, liquid particles are spaced from each other. But, there movement is very limited.

Solid: Solid particles are very different from liquid and gas particles, they are all in one position. Also, they only collide with near neighbours, I think that means that they only collide with particles that are beside them.

- Solids can be changed into liquids, but only some. For example, if you melt wood it's only going to burn down into ashes.
- Solids can be changed into gas in a process called sublimation.
- Liquids can be changed into gas by boiling.
- Solids can be turned into gas by crystallization.

Gas takes up the whole space of their container and move straight until they collide with the container they are in or each other. they move randomly. Gas cannot be weighed because the particles are separate and they moves however and whenever.

Liquid unlike gas have a definite volume and assume the shape of the container they are in. The particles are closely spaced which means their motion is still random but limited. The particles slip and collide with each other. Liquid like water can be made into gas by boiling the water.

Solids have shapes and volume and the particles are in fixed position and bump only with near neighbors. A solid has volume so that means it takes up. The particles are fixed so it doesn't change shape. Solids can be turned to gas through a process called sublimation.

Gas:Gases do not have a particular shape. They have particles that move around very randomly and they do not make up a specific shape or volume. Because they move around so randomely, they can collide with any particles.
Example:Air

Liquid: Liquids are made up of particles that move around the shape. Although similar to gas, they move around randomly but they don't do it as much because of how closely spaced the particles are.They mainly collide with paticles near it. Liquid can be changed to gas by boiling it.
Example: Water

Solid: Solids are made up many paticles that make up the shape and volume. These particles don't move around and they only collide with near particles. Solids can be changed to liquids by melting them.
Example: Rock

Plasma: Plasma is made up of energizing gases to give up electrons/particles.

Solids are particals that have both fixed shapes and fixed volumes like some substances that are in tables and chairs they are examples of solids.

Liquids are substances that art fixed with shape but fixed with volume these liquids are the melted form from solids that where heated like an ice cube to water some examples of liquids are water acid lava ect...

Gases are substances that where formed from evaporation of a liquid like steam because when particals are heated up and they move fast enough that the particals evaporate and become gas substances also forgot to mention that the space in substances increase when heated so solids can't move around as much liquids can move more but gases can do the happy dance because the can do anything they want because gases are not fixed in both shape and in volume.

A solid is a shape that isn't a liquid or a gas and doesn't move

A liquid is something that you can move and fits into anything.

A gas is steam or gas and floats and fills up anything.
