Friday: Kingdom Plantae - Eschscohlzia Californica

The students were excited to see their Remembrance Day poppies sprouting from their pots today. One student noted that he could have used it as one of his examples for his 5 Kingdoms project and sent out an Instagram-Tweet with its latin name (Eschscholzia californica). We will document the growth to see if is affected by several different factors.

All Science projects have been submitted and we are now preparing for the presentations. The students came up with ideas for the presentation criteria together. Click here to check it out!

1.) SCIENCE PRESENTATIONS - Criteria/rubrics will be shared in your Google Drives over the weekend. The rubric will be based on the points you came up with on Friday. Use these points to practice for your presentation. Presentations will begin on Monday. You will receive an e-mail this weekend informing you of when you will present.

2.) ART - Complete your reflections and create a new post under your 'ART' section on your 'Learning Journey'/E-folio.

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE: Find an interesting news article or video about a current issue that is going in the world today. You may want to search our 'TIME FOR KIDS' or 'CNN FOR KIDS'.
a.) Read the article or watch the video and write a brief summary including the 5 W's and the H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, and how) of the news.
b.) Provide a link to the news article or video.

According to , new information released by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) the population of mountain gorilla's are rising. They have increased over the past 2 years from 786 to 880. It has increased because we have been more considerate to the envoirment.

According to CNN student news An oil company(BP) has agreed to pay the largest criminal fine in U.S history which is 1.2 billion dollars can you believe that? They hve agreed to pay because the oil from that oil rig ended up on the gulf of mexico and some other U.S states.

Acprting to time for kids there is whale that is never seene it in the flesh or have it? It has in December 2010 merin scientist Avan van Heldon got a phone call saying that 2 gray beaked whales. He dident think much of it because they wash up on the beach so often. A few months latter he got another phone call a phone call and she said and I quot : I hope you are siting down then she said that they were not grays but instead a pare of spade-toothed beaked whales:the most mysterious species of whale in the world, known only from bone fragments washed up over the course of 140 years. They have never bin seen in the flesh till now. After that van Holden and his team got to work on them.

On December 2010 Anton van Helden was driving like a normal person and his phone rung it was from employee from the ocean conservation department telling Anton the they have found not one beaked whale washed up on the shore but two! They had washed up at a place called Opape Beach in New Zealand. They were thought to be just Gray’s beaked whales and told to look in to it a few months later. when those months passed Rochelle Constantine called from marine biologist at the University of Auckland and she said "I hope you're sitting down" she had told him that they were NOT gray beaked whales but spade-toothed beaked whales which are the most mysterious species of whale in the world they have never been seen in flesh because there has only been bone fragments washed up on shore

Man arrested for iPad Mini theft reportedly had maxi mouth!'
iPad minis were stolen. A worker at New York's JFK airport has been arrested in connection with the theft of nearly $2 million in iPad Minis after he asked co-workers for details about the shipment and about where he might get his hands on a forklift.
The FBI arrested Renel Rene Richardson. The theft occurred Monday night at the Cargo Air Services Building at JFK, with the thieves using an airport forklift to load more than 3,500 Minis onto a truck, according to an earlier report from the Post. They reportedly left another three pallets behind -- driving away after being confronted by an airport employee. Post says it's unclear if the Minis have been found, and that the FBI isn't commenting.

Everyday, many people in the world are involved in drunk driving accidents. Whether it is being the victim, or the driver, someone always gets hurt. Drunk driving is a world issue that seems to never stop. Even though it's an issue that may not be news to you, it is affecting many people day after day, some of which who don't expect it. In this case, a nine-year-old girl was a victim in a car accident involving drunk driving, just the other day. The driver was a teen who had 3 times the legal limit of consumption of alcohol. The little girl was in the car when it all happened. Watch this video and tell me you did not get even a little emotional.

A mysterious animal never seen before whale. A science team came to discover this whale and it was 11.5 feet big and the whale was a young female whale. This whale had never been seen before but then this got discovered. A lower jaw was just found at 1872 and then the whole fish was discovered on 1986.
