Friday: Online Privacy

It was great to hear your comments this morning during our lesson on 'Youth Privacy'. It builds on what you learned last week about creating positive digital footprints and the 9 elements of Digital Citizenship. You will be designing your own advertisements (posters, commercials, trailers, etc) next week on what you have learned so far. We will use these presentations to teach others about internet safety. We must be individually responsible for our own safety as well as the safety of others.

1.) POST A RESPONSE: Why is your online safety something that you must consider when doing anything online? Give at least one example and reason. Do your best not to repeat points that other students have already posted. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.

2.) THE GOOGLE DRIVE CHALLENGE! :)
- Log in to your Gmail account and go to Google Documents or Google Drive.
- Create a new document.
- Move this document into your LA folder and title it 'MY PASSION'. (drag and drop)
- Click on 'TOOLS' and then click on 'RESEARCH'
- Play around with the research tool that pops up on the right side of the screen. See if you can figure out how to use it. I want you to research one of your 'PASSIONS' that you will include on your e-folio/website next week. Please only use this research tool and not a separate browsing window.
- Tell me a little bit about your passions and include at least 1 image, 1 video link, and some information about it.
- 'Share' this document with my Gmail address and list me 'CAN EDIT'.
- I can't wait to see how many students are able to complete this unique scavenger hunt!

You should consider before you click because the information can get shared to everyone in the world. Like a photo of you as a baby, you share it on FaceBook with your best friend (as an example Kevin), Kevin shares it with his friends, all Kevin's friends share it and the whole world receives it !

I think you should never tell anyone where you are. Example, if you are going on a vacation to Mexico, don't say you are there because that means no one will be home which gives you a higher risk of robbery. I also think you should keep your password private and protected from my own experience with Facebook. Also, make sure what you put on a social media network is what YOU and ONLY you want on there. :)

Your online safety is something you should always consider when on the internet. There are so many things that you can do and prevent when you learn about your online safety, but I'm only going to tell you a few things. First of all, I think you should never tell anyone your location and where you are at the moment. An example of where this is used a lot is when someone is going on vacation. Lets say Bob is on vacation and he updates his status on Facebook he is leaving for 2 months, this also means no one will be home for two months. It highers the risk of a robbery and the worst thing is if Bob said the EXACT day he was leaving. Secondly, keep you password private and protected. If your password isnt safe and its weak change it! Also, do not ever give your password to anyone even your best friend because you can get hacked. Lastly, make sure what you put on a social media network is what YOU and ONLY you want on there.

Your safety online is a big thing these days and here are some of the ways to prevent your account being stolen and hacked. The first step to protecting your self from creepers set your privacy settings to the max and dont say where you live or where your going set a fake location. Secondly, keep changing your password and a stonge password has capitals, numders and hard never seen words. Lastly, never give out privite information.

It is important to keep all your security settings on high so creepy people cant steal your information find out your location and post inappropriate things.

Its good to have privacy online because there is alot of different people out there. Online you want to prevent your account from getting hacked, so you should change your password monthly (like on facebook,twitter and more).

I think that if you were online you should never tell the person were you are and what your home address is and cell number. How you can prevent that from happening is to always put your privacy settings on HIGH. So that creppy people cant find you and stalk you.

Let's say that you make a friend on an computer online game that you have never seen in real life. And your " friend " asks where you live, and if you give out your REAL address, you will be in major trouble. Firstly, you don't know what the person looks like, he could be a criminal! Secondly, your " friend " may ask you many questions about you to get an idea of what you look like, that is BAD! Because the person may try to find you!

Think before you click witch means think before you click so say you are talking with some one on face book, don't say "oh im going on a long trip and i wont be home for a while and i live here____." that's probably the worst thing you can say you never want to give away your adress and never say you are going on vacation that leaves your house wide open for a robber to come in and if you get a friend request saying "Justin beber" that dosn't always mean it actually is justin so dont be like OMG!!!! justin added me ya im going to be so popular yyyyyyaaaaaaa he's probably just a creep so now you can say ya a creep added me he's probably just going to rob me what harm can that do. alot so remember think before you click

You should think before you click.This means you should re read what you wrote and know that thats what you want people to see. Make sure your not giving out personal imformation to people you dont know. And change your password offten and never tell it to anybody.

The reason why you should think about your internet safety is for your safety. if you go around clicking on random links for no reason, you will probably end up somewhere in a place you don't want to be. You might as well ask to be followed if your doing that.

Something I think that is very important to be aware of is, telling your personal information. Firstly, you should never tell where you live or where you are staying at. Even saying your on vacation to for example, Mexico. People can know that your not at home, which is easier for a break-in. You should also never tell where you go to school at or where you work at. Telling this, people can get connections to meeting you. Another thing is to always think before you click. Meaning, before you do something on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Always remember before you enter something or fill out something double check if it's appropriate, or if you click this button will it hurt someones feelings? Also remember to keep your privacy settings on the highest. The more protected you are, the better! :)

You should keep your passwords too your self because if you tell some one (like your best friend) then get in a fight with them they could go on your account and post whatever they want . :)

Think before you click and make sure your privacy settings are always on. Don't send or post any photos online that you or someone else would not like on the Internet. Make sure you change your password frequently do that you can't be hacked......

Your online privacy is something that you should always consider. Firstly there are creepers out in the world and with you not caring about your privacy is like telling them Im wide open come hack my websites, secondly if you don't consider your privacy peoPle will be able to track you down using your photos, and last but not least protecting yourself online is just the right thing to do.

i think that you should never post, send or tweet any important information about yourself. let's say that you post that you're in hawaii. someone who sees that post now knows that your not home. they can then go to your house and steal something.
