Learning how to use reading strategies!

Your Science photo journal from the Aquarium field trip is due on Tuesday. Please contact your partner(s) and make sure you create a quick Animoto that is completed according to the criteria outlined on your handout from the other day. You will have time on Monday to work on this.

If you have time, watch this video on deep sea creatures!

1.) LA/NOVEL APPROACH:

Read up the the end of chapter 10.
Be prepared for your group discussion on Monday.
Keep track of your powerful words/phrases, deep connections, and thinking and learning questions with stickies. If you don't have stickies, simply write them on a piece of paper in an organized manner for each chapter you read.
YOU MUST BRING YOUR NOVEL BACK TO SCHOOL.

2.) MATH 6: Complete any assigned work. All of you have a mean, median, and mode test coming up. Some classes have it on Monday and some have it on Tuesday. Check your teacher's website for further details.
MATH 7: Complete any assigned textbook questions and the 6.5 worksheet on the back of your quiz. Start the chapter self test at the end of chapter 6. Your unit test will be on Tuesday.

3.) SCIENCE:

Self assess your Prezi (deep sea explorer) with your partner and improve on your projects. This includes the descriptions of how each component helps explore the deep sea! Your projects are due on Monday. No more time will be given in class. Be sure to have you spreadsheet completed as well. Post any questions you have here or email me directly.
Complete your Prototype Airplane Report. This must be handed in when you walk in the door on Monday. No extra time will be given in class. Follow the criteria outlined in your blue booklet and be sure to write or type up your report. You must attach the table. Your table includes all your observations.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

What are all the limitations to deep sea exploration that you learned about? Explain each.
Also, explain a SPECIFIC type of technology that would help overcome EACH of these limitations.
Do some research and find one thing that has been invented by a Canadian that helps explore any extreme environment. Do your best not to mention ones that other students have already mentioned. I do understand there will be some overlap.

If limitations mean obsticals then no air, crushing preassure, and pitch black are obsical when exploring the deep sea. Why? Well, no air is an obsitcal because in order to live you need to breath, crusing pressure is one too because if you go down in the water to quickly your eternal organs could be crushed, and pitch black is one also because you need to see where your going in order to explore the deep sea. Equipment you could use to help overcome these obstacles are air tanks, flashlights, and perhaps a buoyancy compensator. Air tanks to help you breath under water considering that there is no air there, a flash light to help you see in the dark, and a buoyancy compensated to help you from the crushing pressure.

A Microgravity isolation mount is an invention made by a Canadian. When astronauts attempt to do science experiments in space, they can find their results bungled by tiny disturbances in microgravity caused by on-board equipment like fans and thrusters, or even the movement of the astronauts themselves. To make it easier, Canadians developed the microgravity isolation mount, which uses magnetic levitation to protect fragile experiments from the spacecraft’s vibrations.

There are many limitations when it comes to exploring the deeps sea. Some of them include...

1. Air Pressure: With the crushing air pressure its very hard to successfully pilot and engineer a submersible to go hit the bottom floor. Over the years us humans have found ways to mine for minerals to get metals to help us survive the crushing air pressure. Humans even found was to treat the metals into becoming stronger. (For eg. Gold/ Treated Gold).

2. Air: With no air, don't expect humans to be going on the trip without any technology! We need technology such as air tanks to get humans down their in the sub so that they can breathe. Putting air can really make the sub heaving so putting humans on board can be a high cost. Piloting the sub with all the air won't be that easy. That is why you should consider it being a ROV.

3. Sea life and landscape: Don't expect it as easy as 123 to get down their there are many physical obstacles such as rock formation and wildlife. Maybe torpedo's will get the job done however, you also have to think about the environment. What affects will the torpedo have on after being launched? You also have to put into perspective gas/fuel. You should have a 5 star security tank because a spill would claim lives for many fish, sharks, and other sea life.

The Canadarm was a big invention to help us explore space. This invention allowed astronauts on board the shuttle to move around while hooked on the the Canadarm which was mounted onto the shuttle. This allows repairing the international space station to be done more effecintly, easily, and most important safely. Also this allows picking samples from space to be done easier. It was remote controlled mechanical arm.

In the 30 year use of the Canadarm it was a key invention in space exploration. It was suspended from NASA recently and now they have the Canadarm2 on the international space station.

Mr. Hong - You told me and Caleb that we would get time in class to work on our paper airplanes because I was helping with Animoto and I never got a chance to do trial 3 which we where going to do. The deep sea has many limitations but the ones we came across were air pressure, darkness, and air. The air pressure causes your body (internal organs) to be crushed as you go deeper into the ocean. The darkness make it hard to see things and you don't have any air to breathe since you're in water.

For air pressure there are certain types of metals that fight off the pressure, such as aluminum or steel. For no air, we have oxygen tanks that allow us to breathe underwater. For darkness, we have things like flashlights to see in the dark.

The Space Vision System was invented in Ottawa. The invention allows astronauts to see better since the lighting in space can go from pitch black to burning light.The SVS gives out information about a target so it's easier for the astronauts to find it.

The limitation of deep sea exploration are the darkness, extreme pressure, and lack of air. Although, humans are able to overcome these things by inventing things that are specific to these problems. For example, humans invented the Newt Suit, which can go very deep underwater. The Newt Suit also has lights, to cope with the darkness, air tanks to breathe, and it is also pressurized to keep it from imploding on itself. To conclude, the Newt Suit is an invention to help humans explore the deep sea. And even though we have been able to explore it, there is still much more to be found.

The second one is darkness, it is pitch black in the deep sea so you can't see anything you would need some light if you wanted to explore the deepsea. The third one is water pressure, there is so much water in the ocean that if you go lower their is more water pushing on you because there is more water above so you would need some sort of really strong metal to help that. The last on is dangerous creatures, there is tons of different creatures in the deepsea that no one even knows about so if you see one you don't know if it is poisonous or it eats humans or what.

1. A limitation in the deep sea is the pressure of the water on top of you or a object. The farther you go under water the more water pressure on you humans can only go 18 m under water until you get crushed.
2. A limitation in the deep sea is the lack of air there is no air under water. To go under water for a long time you will need to get oxygen tanks so you can breath for long periods of time until they run out of air.
3. Another limitation in the deep sea is the darkness, the farther you go under water the less sunlight can reach you to light up the dark. So you will need to have lights that are super bright and don't shatter.
4. The farther yo go under water the creature are usually very territorial so it can get pretty bad down there if you run into a bigger animal such as a angler fish.

An Canadian invention to help people in extreme environments is the Canadarm and invention that moved building materials so the space station can be made.

1) A limitation in the deep sea is the there is no air under water so you need oxygen tanks flowing in the submarine and you should have no cracks, holes and you need some type of seal in the cracks so water does not get in.
2) A limitation in the deep sea is that you will need thick layers of titanium so no water pressure can break the submarine.
3) A limitation in the deep sea is that you will need flashlights so you can see under the sea and see where you are going if you are going to crash or not in the deep sea.
4) Another limitation in the deep sea is the predators can try to attack your submarine and it can damage it like a shark or a angler fish.

@Everyone, guess what! I just came back from my soccer game against West Coast FC at Pitt Meadows in Maple Ridge. And we won 2-1! It was such a good game and day because, it was really sunny, it was up to almost 31 degrees, and we only had 6 people on the field while the other team had 11 people playing on the feild. Oh! And the best part today was when a girl on the different team got a yellow card since she tripped me over on purpose when I almost got myself a goal. With this in mind, that was the first time being tripped in all of my 13 games this season and the first time seeing my coach as well as my dad laughing at me ;-( HE HE HE HE! However, I had a good day playing soccer in the warm, sunny weather. Im also, really upset since I only have 2 more practices and 1 game left until my soccer season will be over. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This means, that I have to try really hard, even though I always do! Secondly, over the weekend I watched Canada vs China PR, New Zealand vs Netherlands, Germany vs Ivory Coast, and Norway vs Thailand for the Fifa Womens World Cup Canada 2015 matches. And Canada won.......... (Dont Worry No Spoilers Here) Above all, I had a great weekend! Did you?

We all know that the deep sea is dangerous, so that limits us from lots of things like:
-Air/Oxygen This is a very big limitation because with out air you die so you need to make sure you have enough air for the trip by using air tanks.
-High pressure This means that if you go too deep you will die! :( To make sure we are safe from this, we use super thick and durable metal on subs to keep the air in and water out.
-No light With out light what are you going to do! We need light because the deep ocean has a no light. for this we use super awesome and powerful water proof lights.

A invention is green houses in space. This is where they basically grow plants in space for long space ship rides in the future.

Oh no! I forgot my oxygen tank! Firstly, one of the limitations for deep sea exploration is that its extremely DARK! This means, that If you are or going to explore the deep sea you need special lights that are really bright and can help you see things much better rather than diving in the water when its pitch black when you cant see a thing. For example, we all know that we cant see things as much when were in th dark but, if we have a light source of some sort it will defiantly help us see things much better in the deep sea. In Fact, lights will help us because, if we are in a machine like a submersible and were trying to pick up something with our robotic arm we will know what to pick up. Secondly, another of the liminations of deep sea exploration is that there is no OXYGEN! This means, that if you are or going to explore the deep sea you will need oxygen masks, oxygen tanks, and much more for you to be able to breath underwater. For example, we all know that we cant hold our breath for almost 4 hours! Thats impossible, this is why we need technology that allows us to breath underwater and even space. With this in mind, if you have a oxygen tank of some sort put it on if you are going to dive in the deep sea! Lastly, another limitation for deep sea exploration, is that there is crushing pressure. This means, that If you want to go or if your going deep sea exploring make sure that you have the technology that helps you to not get crushed by the pressures of the water. In Fact, one of the technology that people use today for deep sea exploring is a submersible. For example, people create or egineer a maching that is very strong for it to be able to go way deep down in the ocean.

1 No oxygen:There is no air to breath so it is hard to stay under the water for a long period of time unless you have certain type of technology to help you breath.

2 Pressure:It is hard to go down far in the ocean because of the pressure will crush you and kill you, you need a submarine to go down farther in the ocean.

3 Darkness:It is harder to see in the deep sea because of the lack of sun so you need flashlights to see where you are going.

Also, when you were talking about the Newt Suit, can you specific on what the Newt Suit is. To add to that, there is only one s in unless, and you kinda started both your 2nd and 3rd sentences with "It is." And, why do you think there is lack of sun in the ocean?

I learned that a camera can only go so far deep. So, if you want to go to the bottom of the Marianas Trench than you are gonna have to come up with a great camera. Did you know that Donald L. Hings came up with the walkie-talkie? It has help people in exreme environments communticate so much better.

1. No oxygen causes us to lose air as we go deeper into the water and eventually kill us, water pressure gets stronger the deeper you get into the ocean reef, natural habitats that have animals like sharks could cause danger or kill us. Those natural habitats could also be harmed by us which would not be a lifetime goal.

So what would support us in such depths that can outcome these dangers? Well, special technology like submarines and the astronaut-like water suit is what can support us. How you may ask? Submarines are built strong and big to supply people with oxygen and the protection it needs to survive natural habitats. Along with this submarines can submerge and demerge which is the function of sinking down in the ocean and rising back to shore. The astronaut-like water suit is a special metal casing that protects you from the water pressure and supplies you with oxygen just like the submarine, but this tech does not submerge and demerge you would have to either swim, walk or be pulled back up. This makes it easy to move because it's made of titanium. And for those of you who are wondering where my special technology I listed is, it is actually just mentioned. The Nel Suit is that astronaut-like underwater metal suit and it was also pretty hard to find a different currently in-development Canadian rov of some sort or anything else.

A deep sea object that will help you is a water proof flash light. This will help deep sea Explorers because they Would need to see under water. It would be really dark in the deep ocean and they would need special lights to find materials and to see where they are going.

There are many limitations to exploring extreme environments. for example, there is a minimum amount of money, and don't expect it to be cheap. It will need to withstand anything that could harm your design. and be able to operate with ease. To overcome theses limitations you will need a set a mount of starting money and a high quality design to protect your vehicle/drone. The Canadarm is a series of robotic arms that have been used on the space orbiters to deploy, move and capture payloads. Div4

The limitation of exploring deep sea

#1 No oxygen causes us to run out of air as we go deeper and deeper into the ocean. You would need to have a submarine built of really good material. (titanium)

#2 Sea life is another main reasons that exploring the deep sea is challenging because if you run into a shark or a Chironex (Box Jellyfish) uh bye bye. Link about most dangerous sea life this made me think because I thought the shark was the most dangerous.

If you go shark diving make sure the rods surrounding the cage are titanium so the sharks don't bite through it.

Canadians created the newt submarine that is known as the sports car of the deep sea.

we are limited by the extreme pressure in the deep sea because it can crush organs, limit circulation or cause internal and external bleeding.
the newt suit and submersibles help this by being able to withstand extreme pressure and protect us when inside it.

another problem that makes it hard to explore extreme environments is the lack of availability of transportation to and through extreme environments and that has nothing so far made by humans to fix that.

=sum(d2:d12)

The colon tells the computer to add all the numbers from cell d2 to d13. If you were to do a single calculation, you would simply type the following:

We are limited to explore the deep sea because of four main reasons.
1.) There is no air. There is no air underwater for us so we can't breath. This is one of the big obstacles.
2.) There is crushing pressure. This pressure with crush all your organs.
3.) It is pitch black. This is really big because if you want to explore the deep sea you need to see where you are going.
The Canadarm was one invention made by us Canadians that allows us to explore the deep sea. How does it allow us to explore? Well, it can travel in space and help move items and allow us to find things.
