Friday: Building Bridges with Transition Words

We focused on making inferences during the read-aloud today, and students were able to share their ideas via http://todaysmeet.com/1ivan2.
To hone our writing skills, we practiced identifying and using transition words. Students also enthusiastically brainstormed adjectives to describe their names.
Continuing with the Five Kingdoms Science Project, we discussed key elements of visual design for posters, and used the C.R.A.A.P. reliability test to evaluate websites.

During clean up time, it was fantastic to see certain students taking extra responsibility for the condition of the classroom without being asked. Props to SpongeBob (sweeping), the Overseeker (fixing improperly stacked chairs), and others who helped! It would be great to see everyone taking ownership of our classroom environment!

1.) POST A RESPONSE: Using what we learned in-class today about transition words, revise your posts about your outdoor adventures:

Take into account any peer feedback that was given
Add or change transition words to make your paragraph more fluent
Post BOTH your original paragraph AND revised paragraph in your response.

2.) SCIENCE 6/7:

For homework, finish the 2 C.R.A.A.P. tests given in class. Feel free to evaluate a video, book, or other source for one of your C.R.A.A.P tests!

Brainstorm CREATIVE ways to present your project! But do not print anything yet (for your poster), as you will be receiving peer feedback, and we still need to discuss about the bibliography. You are not expected to finish your project this weekend, but you can make some good progress by:

Finding more RELIABLE websites for information and images
Keeping track of the website URL for ALL information and images that you use
Drawing/creating your own images for each of the 5 kingdoms

3.) MATH 6 - any assigned work
MATH 7 - Worksheet 2.5 (You must draw your grids on the handout). If you have any questions,
feel free to post them here.

ME AND HOCKEY

My hockey team travels a lot and it is amazing to see new places. Are team has also being to some great places like Winepeg It was amazing in Winepeg there was so much to do there. I went to a lot to cool places like the mint factory where they make coins it was amazing. But on the otherhand there were so many wasps they were so annoying I got stung like 40 times up there. Now I will tell you about my other travel it was to Toronto and there was some awesome stuff up there but my favorite thing was the CN Tower it was crazy I went to the top and looked down at like a billion hotels and stores and malls and all that stuff. And I went to many more places for hockey like Edmonton twice winepeg twice and LA los anglas whistler yea also now I will tell you about a up coming travel my spring hockey team might go to chezch republic its crazy.

I turned the handle, it was stuck. My door wouldn't open. I pulled it as hard as I could and SMOOSH! Snow on the roof fell on my head. I grabbed my snowboard from my garage and headed out to the big hill. It looked like a long journey, I tripped into small ditches and got my boots stuck but I finally made it up the hill. My friend, John was here. I helped him make a snow ramp with some hot water. It was perfect. I buckled on my snowboard and started heading down. I reached the edge of the ramp then, SMASH! I landed in the snow, my face was covered up with bits of white stuff. My face felt so stiff. I walked back up, did it again, I kept practicing, of course I did many face plants, but I learned always try your best, and you will accomplish it.

SUMMER CAMP CONCERTS ON VANCOUVER ISLAND

When it was August and I was at Camp Qwanoes, every night we have these Concert type things where all 300+ of us gather in this giant tent thing that has a stage in it called Q-Town, at Q-Town our Camp band plays amazing music and we jump up and down, and some songs have actions so the staff get up on stage and dance, the lyrics are also posted on screen, we also have a camp speaker and we talk about what we do over the week, Qwanoes is amazing, and I hope all of you would go there :3

~COMPLETELY REWRITTEN DON'T JUDGE ME~

It was August, I had been at camp for at least 3 days now, it had turned dark, the sun hovering in the far corners of the earth, the moon now dominant in the navy blue sky, but the sounds of music still filled the air at this time, a large white building booming with the sounds of melodious songs and the shouting of others singing along, I stood in the middle of the crowd, due to my pink hair if someone were to look from above, I would stick out like a tree after the apocalypse, but nothing mattered at that moment, adrenaline rushed through the building as midnight grew near, and the music died down, now only quite whispers and the voice of our speaker sounded through the calm night, but as he speech ended droplets of water came down, soon a mist came over camp as we drudged out of the warm building, I smiled, for the mist felt like tiny rain faeries tapped my body, and I soon fell drowsy as I disappeared into the tall trees and motionless shadows.

MY FAMILY CAMPING

As we went around the last turn, we saw the ice cream shop. My Mom and Dad got off their bikes. My brothers Connor, Nick and Michael followed, then me. We all got ice cream cones. I got blue bubble gum in a cone. We ate outside and it was a nice day. Then we went to a store across the street called the C shop. It is a candy shop. Yum candy!!! We all got to choose 1 candy. I chose some thing called sugar rocks. They were good. The cool thing is that they look like rocks on the stick.YUM!!! Then we rode back to where we were camping in Birch Bay. We ate our candy then we decided to go to the pool. I got on my bathing suit and we rode to the pool and had a fun time there. My dad throws me in the pool and then we do it over and over till it gets too crowded in the family pool. It was a really nice day. We were there most of the afternoon then we went back to our tent. For dinner we make a fire and then roasted hotdogs and marshmallows for dessert. After that, I went riding over the dirt jumps with Nick, then we settled into our tent for the night. The next day, we packed everything up and headed home.

Paintbaling with my Family and friends

One nice and hot summer day in a paintball areana on my birthday I was turning 12 and I was having so much fun. When we got there everyone was so exicted and had 2000 paintballs each because paintballls go quick and their were nine of us me, both my uncles, my 2 cusons , my mom and dad, 3 frends, my sister and last my anut. We all got are equipment pretty quick then we all got it on and we were ready to rock. The first match was me and m 3 friends vs the adults and the first person out was one ofmy uncles and I got him right in the shoulder soon after that I got hit right in the hopper which is the part that holds the paintballls and the winner was one of my friends then we had a lot of other matches man let me tell you it is a lot of fun andthen we all went home for cake.

Whistler

When I was in whistler last summer I climbed up a big hill beside the hotel. Firstly, it was very hard to climb because it was so big. Also, when we got to the top we saw the Olympic Rings so we got a picture with them. It was so cool! After, we walked around to where all the houses are and the houses were huge (it's like the house at the PNE) it's my dream house. Lastly, when we got back me, Brya, our moms, and dads went swimming. I had a great time in Whistler.

I just jumped into the cold lake water. I felt something pinch my toes so i looked under water and i saw a bunch of feathers. i thought to myself no way it can't be. but it was just as i was looking under the water the duck swam up hopped on the dock and toddled off. little did he know my dog was tied up to the end of the dock and she just happens to be retriever so she tackled the duck. she is so clumsy that she fell off the dock and into the lake so I went over picked her up and ran home. Just as we were running we heard a crack of thunder and it started pouring rain.

As I thought to myself what it could be I was kicking my legs and trying to get it to stop when finally, out of the water came a duck. He then hopped up on the dock and toddled off. Although he did not know my dog was tied up to the end of the dock and she just happens to have a chew toy that is a duck. So she tried to catch the duck. The duck then jumped in the water and swam away. My puppy decided to jump in after it. I quickly swam through tons of disgusting, slimy, and ugly looking weeds. When I finally reached her I went over picked her up and ran back to our cabin. Meanwhile as we were running to our cabin we heard a crack of thunder and it started pouring rain.

One thing I think of when I think of the great outdoors is extreme tubing. I went once with my friends and we went to pitt lake. Extreme tubing is when the boat goes really fast and you do donuts and sharp turns. We stop on a little beach and eat lunch. Then we go tubing again. I have never fallen off but my friends have.

One of the many things I think of when I think of the great outdoors is EXTREME TUBING. This is where you get onto the tube and go much faster than normal. Aswell as many donuts and sharp turns.
Later on we go to a little beach my friends found and eat lunch. After that we went back onto the water to do some more tubing. I have never fallen off but my friends have many times.

SUMMERS AT CRESENT BEACH

The sun beamed down at us as we were playing in the sand. My sister and I were both burying our feet in the sand. It felt so warm and cozy, like our feet were surounded by a huge blanket. our parents were sitting under a shady tree because they didn't want to get burned. We didn't swim, but we kinda of judt dipped our feet in the water. The water felt like a cold ice cube, but soothing at the same time. I went back to the I went back to the shady tree because I was cold and I wanted a towel. I stayed with my mom for a bit since my dad went to see my sister. I ate some snacks and went back to the water one last time. Lastly, we went to an Ice cream shop nearby and I had cookies and cream.

A Day On The Boat
I was riding on the tube going left then right and all of the sudden BOOM, I was in the water. One day last summer me, my mom (Corinne), my sister (Taylor) m 4 friends (Sterlin,Cole,Jake,and Harry) and my mom's friend (George) were all going on a boat ride. Me, Cole, and Sterlin all tubed outy there. As soon as we got there we went in to the water. There was a lot of cool stuff, firstly there was lots of islands to explore, secondly we saw a cool hole in the bottom of the lake, lastly we kiyaked all over the place. After we went swimming for a while we got back in the boat to eat lunch. Before long we saw it was already 4 o clock and so we had to go back home. On the way back it was me, Harry, and Taylor in the tube and we did so many zig-zags and doughnuts that we flipped off the back of the tube, it ws awesome. When we got home we just swam the rest of the day. Aftewards my back was sort of sore. That was the best day on the boat ever.

Ambush Paint balling

It was a hot and summer day when I got invited to my friends birthday party at Ambush paint ball there were a good amount of people and I have seen most of them so I wasn't scared to give them an EPIC beat down. One of the many Biomes were the city oh man do I have a bad memory there, I was crouched down hiding behind a bush I felt like I should move, and the next thing I knew I was getting shot at from my brother I was so lucky he had a bad aim because that would've hurt but, I remembered the rules I could say mercy so I yelled MERCY!! We were on the forest biome when I saw someone I was almost laughing because he didn't notice me so I shot 5 bullets at him I shot him about three times but when he turned and looked at me it was my team mate! whoops after the match he showed me I shot him in the leg 2 and in the side 1. (he was very mad at me when he noticed his team mate shot him)

SMACK!! Thats when I hit the ground. I fell of the cold wet thick wall.I lie on the ground as the cold rain drips on my face. Luckily I fell on my back but it still hurt but not as bad as if I fell on my hands or chest. The wall was twice the size of me but I had climbed it before so I tried again. I grasped the slippery wet wall I could smell all the glory of that one top brick.I didn't parkour for one week my friends got worried. but that tiny incident did not crush my dream of being a pro parkourist.

Skiing at Grouse Mountain!

Wake up in the morning super exited knowing that I was going skiing with my best friend!. We all decided that we would meet each other there, we were driving for a while though. I was really excited once we got there it was snowing! I could feel the cool breeze brush past my face as we were waking up to the gondola. I hated the gondola it was so crowded it was like I couldn't breathe it was super stuffy!. Once we got of the gondola I was so happy finally fresh air. Me and my friend were so happy to se each other it felt like forever. We started walking to place were you get your boots and your skis. Once we all got are stuff on we went down to the slopes I kept on falling down and couldn't get up!. Then finally when we all could ski properly we all went down at the same time it was so great! I could feel the wind brush the snow past my face. Then we all had hot chocolate which was super good it kept my hands warm because it felt like my fingers were gonna fall off!.

It was a cold morning I woke up super excited knowing I was going skiing with my best friend!, but I was super tired since we got up at 7:30 on the weekend. Anyways once we all got up we packed are lunch and got are boots coats and snow pants I felt like a fat marshmallow!, we all got in the car and drove for awhile. Once we got out of the car it was snowing heavily and we made our way up to the gondola, as we were riding up the gondola it was really stuffy! and crowded. As soon as we got off the gondola I felt relived because there was fresh air. My hands were so numb it was like they were gonna fall off, we got hot chocolate before we headed to the place were you get your skis, helmets, and boots. It felt great and the hot chocolate was so good. After we all finished are hot chocolate we got are skis, helmets, and boots it was really hard to put the boots on though. Once we were all done that we headed to the slopes it took us all a few times though. I kept on falling and couldn't get up! it was frustrating, but I go up once and once we all got the hang of it we all went down together it was so much fun! my brother and sister were really good at it but me and friend kept on falling, anyways that was my favorite day!

Getting Cut On A Hot Summer Day

We were coming a day late... And then we got cut. Me, my mom, my dad, and Marvin ( a family friend who is around 22 ) were on our way camping with other friends and family to the Vancouver Islands. Though we were a day late, we thought we wouldn't miss much. The hot summer sun was shining. While were in the line for the ferry we got cut! One car of the ferry, and now we have to wait 3 hours! It's noon, now we are deciding what to do. There's a nice water view so we head there. BAM! A nice, peaceful, little town was right in front of us. Me and Marvin played catch at the park that was there while my mom and dad sat near. Marvin and I were going back and forth for about 2 hours. We were tired by then and needed something to cool us down. Starbucks! The iced passion tea lemonade was exactly what I needed. The ferry arrived after I finished my drink. We FINALLY arrived at the camping site. I made it for a nice game of slender and beach volleyball :D

However, we were a day late. We thought we wouldn't miss much. The hot summer sun was shining. While we were in the line for the ferry we got cut! One car off the ferry, and now we have to wait 3 hours! It's noon, now we are deciding what to do. There's a nice water view so we head there. BAM! A nice, peaceful, little town was right in front of us. Me and Marvin played catch at the park that was there while my mom and dad sat near. Marvin and I were going back and forth for about 2 hours. We were tired by then and needed something to cool us down. Starbucks! The iced passion tea lemonade was exactly what I needed. The ferry arrived after I finished my drink. We FINALLY arrived at the camping site. I made it for a nice game of slender and beach volleyball :D

Sight seeing in Hawaii.

When I went to Hawaii I had alot of fun, I went to the beach and relaxed under hot Hawaiian sun, but the fun hadn't even started after all the walking around me and my mom and two sisters went on a 2 hour tour to look around the island. I saw dolphins and turtles and I also got to swim around. We weren't allowed to touch them because the are an endangered species. It was so much fun on the boat until we hit the waves, the boat started rocking back and forth and water started splashing every where that my mom and I got sea sick and vomited, but over all the circumstances it was a great trip and I'm glad I went.

Seeing dolphins in Hawaii.

Seeing dolphins is cool, but seeing dolphins in Hawaii is awesome.
Going to Hawaii was so much fun I got to go to the beach, go shopping, and relax under the hot sun, but the most fun I had was when I went on a tour boat to look around. I went with my mom and my two sisters. I saw dolphins swimming and I also saw some turtles but I wasn't allowed touch them. It was so mush fun until we hit the strong waves, the boat was swaying so much that me and my mom got sea sick and vomited, but it was a good adventure.

Two years ago my family and I went to Whistler. We went up the mountain in a gondola and walked around the village. But the best thing that we did was zip-lining! It ended up being an amazing adventure up in the trees. On the first zip-line when the guide hooked me to the wire, my stomach had butterflies. But she pushed me off, and it was so much fun. We went on five zip-lines over rivers, mountains, lakes, trees and other amazing scenery. My dad even filmed all around him as he went across a canyon on one of the zip-lines. I was so scared that he would drop his phone but luckily he didn't!

*Rustle rustle, snap!*
That's the sounds me and my older brother used to hear when we were younger. We used to do many activities in a mini forest across our house when we lived in Sun Creek. Firstly, we used to find many bugs and insects. From beetles, worms, ladybugs, ants, and more! All the bugs that looked lonely would be the ones we'd capture in a jar, and transfer them to some other place to set them free. Secondly, my brother and I would play games such as tag, or hide n go seek. He would usually be it, but not always. Most of the time he would find me by the sounds *Rustle rustle, snap!*. Lastly, if it was so bright and sunny, we would hop on the skateboard and roll down the bumpy trail. Although as much fun as that was, I usually ended up getting many cuts and bruises by falling off.

My First Time Snowboarding:
When I first went snowboarding it was a blast. When I first got to the top of the bunny hill, (the bunny hill is just for beginners) I tried to go down the bunny hill. Well that only lasted not even two seconds cause I fell really quick. Then I realized you got to stop looking at the ground when your going down. Then I my mom got me a personal snowboarding trainer so I could learn faster and learn some good techniques about snowboarding. It was really cool having a personal trainer because he told me how to stop, turn and to slow down.

HIDE-AND-SEEK WHITH THE COUSINS (re-revised)

We FINALLY got to go camping this summer.We ( my sister and i ) went to the island to visit family so my auntie found a (camping) site and set everything up ( the adults set up every thing). And later we came back to the site from a walk. It was dusk. So i suggested hide-and-seek every one said yes. My little sister Brooklynn (9) was it. While she counted me and my cousins RAN (quietly). Near by behind some trees there was a small field.We went around it and hid. We played again but this time Bryce (my younger cousin) was it we went around the small field again but this time we went in a hiden trail (it was a dead end). And (kind of) hid behind a rock behind a bush .We could see the other end of the field. He never found us ! We got to home base.
