Today, students started the Foundation Skills Assessment. Over the next week or so, we will complete the math, reading, and writing components of this test. It is important to note that this test will not count towards any in-school evaluations or assessments. This is a government mandated test that they use for their purposes. We will not use these results at Laurier. The test will evaluate your child's knowledge and skills based on the curriculum without taking into consideration which topics/concepts have actually been taught so far. This will not give you a proper assessment of your child's abilities. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
IMPORTANT:
1.) PARENTS: Ask your child to show you their most recent math evaluation from last Thurday. Sign the test and return Mr. Hong.
2.) Tomorrow, we will participate in a workshop titled, "Lifting Black Voices." It will take place from 1:00 - 2:30. Topics explored will include racism, discrimination, and social justice.

- Black history is not a topic we will cover once a month or just in February, but we will continue learning about it all year.

LEARNING INTENTION: I can write an engaging paragraph about Lincoln Alexander that makes someone want to learn about him!
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format - engaging intro, body, and conclusion.
2.) Includes 'IMPORTANT' facts we should all know about Lincoln Alexander from the videos and/or from your own research. (2-3 supporting points)
3.) Make sure your hook is engaging and makes your audience want to read it.
4.) Check for the givens (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure)
5.) Read 2 other paragraphs and give 2 students a suggestion on how to make their paragraph better or more engaging.
6.) Edit/revise as needed.
