SKILL 4: LEADING LINES

Today, the students participated in their first 'BOOK CLUB' discussions that were focused on their 'GIFT OF WORDS'. They worked on their assignments independently and then discussed it with the picture book groups. The students learned that they all have something to contribute and they can all learn collaboratively from one another. I heard very rich and focused conversations going on at each of the groups. I look forward to seeing more of this after you have had a chance to work on your thinking and learning questions tomorrow.

My P.A.R.
Collaboration is one of the most important skills ever. It helps students develop oral communication skills, leadership skills and it helps deepen learning. I'll be sharing a few things on what is important during collaboration. During collaboration everyone should be facing and looking at the speaker which is called active listening. The second thing is to be kind to one another. You want to be kind because if you are kind then others will be kind too. You don't want to be rude to someone because you probably won't be treated the same way. The last thing I want to share is regulating. Lately our class hasn't been regulating much so our class goal is to try to regulate and stop talking when our teacher is teaching us a lesson or when he is trying to get our attention. I hope that everyone has good collaboration skills because every teacher should open the classroom door to collaboration.

Collaborating, it's something everybody does. You collaborate with your friends and you work with one another. Here are three things I think are important when collaborating with one another. One, be helpful and kind to each other. If you don't it's going to be chaos and you won't like your group so you end up doing work by yourself which is what you don't want. If you be kind they'll be kind back to you and treat you nicely. Being helpful is also a good thing, they might not help you back but you get a reward in your mind and you will feel proud of yourself. Two, self regulating and staying on task. If you and your friend or group members just dilly dally and talk about Pokemon or something then you'll get really less work done and your work habits aren't going to improve. But fiddling around with your group members are worst. You guys will all get nothing done and have to do everything last minute. If you actually stay on task you might even finish early and get to sit back, and relax. Lastly, be open about everything. Honestly if you're a shy person and you don't talk so much you wouldn't be as collaborative as the others and as upfront. If you want to say something that's really helpful but scared to you're not going to be on the same page as everyone else and they might even be upset that you're not open. These are the 3 most important things I think when collaborating.

Collaboration is one of the most important parts of learning. There are many important things to keep note of while collaborating, but I'll be listing three of them today. First, I think that it's really important to listen to others while collaborating, because you never want to discourage someone from sharing their opinion. Second, you want to include anyone. The reason I say this is because some people might be too shy to share, so you want to encourage them the best you can. Try to ask questions, and interact with as many people as possible. Lastly, I think it's so important to be kind while collaborating. You may take the lead, but you need to remember that collaborating is to work as team. That means you can't be the one bossing everybody around. Those are the main skills you need to collaborate well with others!

First, you shouldn't start a sentence with 'but' (as you did in the second sentence). Second, maybe you should rephrase the 'thing' to something else (when you say "The first THING", what are you referring to when you say "thing"?). Also, lastly, make sure to go over everything and check for grammar/spelling mistakes!

There's no "I" in team. But really, what do you think of when you say or hear team? Not what it really is, that's for sure. The truth is, there may not be an "I" in team, but technicaly it has "me"- but it's mixed in with the other letters. That's one thing that's important in teamwork. Understanding and respecting each person as an individual, but being able to work with your teammates, combining your strengths and weaknesses in the best ways and understanding each other for the most succesful group. Another crutial element to success is communication. No group will acomplish anything if everyone is talking at once or arguing. Comunication includes speaking on at a time, waiting for pople to fininsh before makeing suggestions or comments, and (particularily in sports) not just yelling at people all at once. For example, let's say Jimmy has the ball. Everyone: Pass it here! No, dodge around him! Not that way!Try to score!!! Jimmy: confused, tries to pass the ball to the wrong person and ends up giving the ball to the other team.
Hmm, I wonder who's fault that is? Well, the team thinks it's Jimmy's fault, but hes not sure what he did wrong. He was trying to do what they wanted.
After a talk and some practise the team has another game. Jimmy gets the ball. Everyone: Instead of yelling, tryes to get open. Teammate: Runs away from check and towards basket. "I'm open!!!" Jimmy: passes to him. Teammate: Scores.
The last thing I think is important is an open mind. Sometimes your idea isn't always the best- put them forward, but if your team preffers something else, then don't take it personaly. Go with it. It may turn out better than you thought. If you really can't agree, try a comprimize before you start snapping at each other and your COMUNICATION (hem hem) goes down the drain. Keep in mind that at the begining a group can be as fragile as a spiders web but as you get to know each other you may become inseperable. Hey, once you fall into the habbit of working together, it may be hard to stop! I think that another ord for teamwork... is friendship.

Collaberaition is an important part of learning. It teaches us things we've never known, or teaches us things we already know. This is called callaberation.

Collaberation is an essential thing to make use of learning better. Collaberation is the act of meeting with people and working together, which acts as a source for improved learning. Sometimes, we collaberate without knowing! Today, I'll be showing 3 tips that I think can make collaberation more effective

1) Try to fit yourself in, and introduce yourself to the group

2) Always share connections, bring out new ideas etc.

3) Don't discluse yourself, you matter.

When your collaborating with peers, always think of these tips to make you be more active in learning.

@ Karman - In the first sentence, there is a typo. It should be "collaboration" not "collaberaition." You spelt it wrong again in the in the last sentence of the first paragraph. You also spelt it wrong in the second paragraph first sentence, second sentence the third sentence and the last sentence. In number three I'm pretty sure you meant "disclose" not "discluse." Also make sure to look back at the criteria b/c Mr. Hong said it should be in paragraph structure. Overall it was pretty good!

I HATE GROUP WORK! IT SUCKS!!! whoa whoa hold up right there... Group work isn't really bad if actually do it the right way. So today I am going to talk about why collaboration is AMAZING!!!

So. I think first of all, I think that collabration helps you think outside the box or things that you have never thought of. We all dont have the same brains, so we all have diffrent point of view or opinions. I think it is great to share them with other people.

Second, I think that it may help us develop our communication skills because we are constantly talking in diffrent ways. It is imporatnt to develop communication skills because if we are in a group to do a project, you need to talk to people about how you are doing and things. I personally think that is important.

Lastly, I think that collabration gives us more oppurtunity to give feedback. Sometimes, you read through mistakes but your peers probably won't. I think that this is very important.

Overall, I think that collabration is a very good way to develop BK, communication skills and feedback skills. I personally didn't really like collbration but I'm getting used to it and I think it is pretty fun.

Collaborating can be easy or it can be hard in some cases. There are a couple things that I find key to collaborating. I always hope I’m with someone kind and cooperative, that makes it easy to collaborate and work together. It’s good when the person or people in my group aren’t afraid to give you feedback so you can improve your work. It is awesome when people have a good perspective on what we are doing to help build on my knowledge.

There are lots of things that are required for effective collaboration, as collaboration is an important part of learning, and also very complicated. Here are the 3 main things that I think are important for collaboration. If you want to collaborate effectively with others, it’s good to have laid down some ground rules. You need to make sure that everyone knows they have to participate, and stay on topic. If you don’t have basic rules, your group meeting will likely turn to chaos. Speaking of participation, that’s another important important aspect of effective collaboration. I’m pretty sure nobody wants to do all the work, so a good rule to have is that everyone should contribute equally. In order to get things done, and set rules, your group needs to be able to communicate. That also means that you can ask each-other questions if you are unsure about something, and get help. Collaboration can be very useful, as long as you do it right!

Is collaborating fun? No, but do you have to do it? Yes. So what are some ways you can get better at it? Well, let me tell you.
1) Participating
If people in your group aren't participating or don't want to participate encourage them to join the conversation. For example, you can say something like "Hey, so what do you think we should_____?" Because if no one participates then you won't be able to do anything productively.
2) Be open to other people's ideas
Shutting down someones idea is never something you should do. If you dislike someone's idea you could say something like this "I like your idea but, I don't think it will work. Keep thinking though". Sometimes your idea is not always the best idea. People in our class are all really intelligent.
3) Have fun
Having fun is something you should be doing everyday. In group work having fun can really make everyone enjoy working with you even more. They might even think work is fun! But when you are having fun try not to get too off topic because once that happens you won't get work done as efficiently. When I do something I always want to have fun. I feel like people take things too seriously some times. People should chill out a bit and be more happy and have some fun when they do things.
So overall I think that collaborative work are both hard and fun. I really like group work because I find it easier for me to get things done.

Have you ever had to collaborate with someone before? Pretty much EVERYONE has. Sometimes it can be hard to collaborate with others so here are some key things to help you collaborate that I think are important. Number one, effort. If only one person in the collaboration is working, and putting effort into whatever it is you're doing, you pretty much have a recipe for disaster. Make sure you and the others you're working with are putting effort into everything because if you want to get it done teamwork is very important. It wouldn't be very fair if someone did all the work in a group project and gave everyone in the group extending. Number two, leadership. If someone in the collaboration is off-task it's your job to put them back on track. That is a great way to show leadership in a collaboration. Finally, number three... cooperation. This is vital in any group setting! If everyone in the collaboration is arguing that isn't going to get you ANYWHERE. I know that sometimes you might not get your first choice when doing something, but it's important to be open-minded with this. You shouldn't be raging because you didn't get your way. Those are three important ways that you can make ANY group collaboration better.

You'll always be more successful when you work in a group. There are some points to collaborate effectively with others. First, you should always respect the person who is talking or sharing their own opinion or ideas. Nobody would want someone to interrupt them while they talk. Second, you don't have to agree with everything the others say, but you also can't just shut down others' ideas.Maybe say, "that's something I've never thought of! Good point, but I have something else different..." That way you are open to other's opinions and wont upset someone else. Third, try to get to everyone's opinion, maybe someone's shy, but maybe they have something very interesting but just won't share it. We should always include everyone in the group.

So when you are in a group, there are some things that you need to know so you can communicate better with your fellow members.
1) Make sure you allow everyone to speak.
(In this case) You are sharing ideas about your gift of words. Someone is talking and you cut that person off and you start to blab on about what you think. That's pretty rude. You must let that person to finish. This will allow you to get all of the information that the person would like to share about.
2) Share your ideas, even if nobody else in your group has thought about it
Always share your opinion on the topic. Even if it's different, you might spark an idea in someone else's mind and help them grow their understanding.
3) Make sure you do your work!
In our case, we need to do the G.O.W every week. If you don't complete it, that's kinda okay? I mean, you could say you don't have any ideas on what to say but still. If you don't finish, then you can get information from your group members. But make sure you say who helped you with your learning!!! (But really though, do your work.)
Overall these three ideas are just my opinion. But they are pretty important. I think..

Working as a group can sometimes be very efficient and effective. Collaboration is a very important part of learning in a group. However, how can we collaborate effectively with each other? First, we all have to respect each other and the speaker. To do that, we all have to listen to what others say and we don’t interrupt the speaker. Then everyone will feel more comfortable and they will be more willing to express their opinions. Secondly, we also need to help each other stay on task. We should plan ahead and have a daily or weekly checklist to help us stay on task. If we all stay on task, we’ll accomplish everything in a timely manner and at our best standard. Lastly, everyone must participate. This can be extremely helpful, especially if we don’t understand something or we don’t know what to write for something. Everything that our group mates share can add to our own thinking and we might think of something that we never would have thought of by ourselves. Everyone has different opinions, however there is no right or wrong answer as long as we can support our reasoning. Additionally if we were to disagree on something, having a debate could be helpful because then we have a chance to improve our reasoning, analytical, and our teamwork skills. In conclusion, I think that respecting each other, helping each other stay on task, and participating are very important to collaborate effectively in a group. Collaborating is also a very important life skill that we need to have.

It is easy to break one chopstick, but it is hard for you to break more. This is an old saying in China meaning own person doesn't have much power, but together you are unbeatable. Collaboration is a very important skill to learn because it make you stronger than only your self. But actually most people can't collaborate peacefully because they were doing it wrong. I think the three most important thing to follow to collaborate well are listed down below. Firstly you need to do the collaboration in order with rules or else it will just be a mess. Secondly you have to all do work, nobody can be lazy and get credit without doing work. It will make others feel unfair if you get credit when you don't work. Thirdly, you should know when to take a step back. You don't always have to say what you want. Sometimes taking a step back is just better. These are the three reasons Think are important to collaboration.

Collaborating is a big part of learning from each other and also relates to the thinking and learning questions.
1) Don't shut down other peoples ideas. Have an open mind.. And fly!!! Like an eagle. (Quote unquote). Let everyone have a chance to speak.
2) Participate. Don't just let other people do the talking. You also have great ideas to share and you will help push others people thinking by sharing your ideas.
3) Distracting. Don't be fidgeting with anything or distract others by talking. Let you're peers focus on the assignment and get some work done instead of you talking to them or distracting them.

Collaboration. When you hear this word , you might think of team work . If you are doing team work , I think there are 3 things that is really important to me and all of you guys. Let me start from number one, first I think is to stay focus . Why is it that important, stay focus don't mean that you just have to look at the speaker and just hear what other say . Sometimes you might saw your best friend in your group. And you started want to talk to them , or you are looking at other thing and not staying focus . This is a important point cause if you don't stay focus and the teacher is going to ask you what your group mates said , and you are so confused, not only that , and you might sometimes miss some good ideas from others , so always being focus. Secondly , respect other . Sometimes you might ask, what do it means to respect other ? Actually I think this is a little bit similar to stay focus but you also have to face the group-mates who is talking , cause when that person see that you are not listening or you are just like talking to your friends , sometimes they might that it seems like you don't want to hear what he/she said , and sometimes it hurts people feeling cause the person might think that they are not important. Maybe you don't really know how people feel , but if you think of when you are sharing your thoughts and no one listening , and this is how other people feel. Thirdly , always helping your group mates if they need help. Sometimes when you or your classmates are sharing their own opinions, and a person in your group don't understand what you guys are talking about , you should not just sitting there and pretend nothing happened , and you should always helping them . For example , if one of your group-mates seem so confused, you should be patient and try to explain to him/her , and make them understand that what are you guys talking . I think these points are really important when you are collaborating, I will always remember them and I think everyone can be able to follow it too!

Collaborating can be easy but can be hard sometimes. Someone may be not listening, not staying on topic, keeps getting distracted, etc. So the three things that I think is important is first, to listen. Listen when others are talking. You’ll get your turn after and if you listen then it can deepen your thinking. When you listen to others when talking maybe they said something that you didn’t think of and now that they said it you have an aha! moment. Second, is to be kind to everyone. When you’re kind to everyone then you’ll get along with everyone and won’t have any problems. Well maybe a little problem but not big ones. Lastly, make sure to be open with any ideas. If you shut down anyone’s ideas then that person won’t learn and you might also miss that opportunity to learn something from that person. Instead of shutting that persons ideas try like say it in a different way. For example something like “your idea is great but I think...” and then say your idea. Everyone is different and some people might not be good at collaborating, but I think these three are important points when talking about collaborating.

HEY THERE FOLKS! I’m here to tell you some tips about COLLABORATING! Now, what do you think of when the word collaboration comes up? Yes, you in the back with the pastel blue hoodie. Uhh. Teamwork? I agree! Thank you for your input! When I think of teamwork I think of three things.
1) Participating
When doing a group activity, one person can’t be doing all the work. Everyone should be joining in! Imagine doing a project in school. There’s six people in one group. Would it be fair if only two people were doing the work but one person is doing the most (out of the two)? No! Exactly. Then would it be fair if everyone participates in the group activity instead of doing nothing until someone tells you to do something? Most likely yes. How were you guys able to answer with that in unison? Moving on!
2) Discussion
Random person: What does this have to do with anything?! Quiet child. Let me speak before you ask questions. Before this child rudely interrupted me I was going to say that discussion might be the most important key. Unless you are deaf or can’t speak then that’s understandable. Hmm. Well let’s actually talk about this. Other there with the flash hat, can you tell me a reason why discussing something would be important? Maybe because talking about the subject at hand focuses people? Thank you for your input! You! Who? Me or him? Him. Uhh. Discussion is an important thing because everyone can share their ideas and yea that’s pretty much it. Thank you for your input kind sir. Now what were we all doing? We were discussing about why discussion is an important element to collaborating! Yes, that was the example.
3)Having Fun
Having fun is also an important factor. We can’t just have everyone sitting still while sharing what they think about blah! Sure, you can’t just go way off topic but having fun is also a good way to do things. For example, studying for a spelling test. This is what I do. I try to make a random song that has all the words in it. That way I can remember what the words are AND be able to have fun!
