GLOWING GROW CRYSTALS

Today, students had an opportunity to make glow crystals using the scientific method! Students have been learning about this method over the last few weeks and were able to put their background knowledge to use. Students were fully engaged in each step of the process and used various materials and equipment to mix, measure, and create a solution that will turn into glow crystals! They will record and document their qualitative and quantitative observations over the next 7 days. Ask your child about what they learned today!

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you had an opportunity to get hands on experience with the scientific method!
Write a paragraph about what you learned in Science today!
Today's learning intention: I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) States if you feel you met the learning intention.
3.) Includes 2-3 reasons/examples/supporting sentences on reasons why you feel you met it or
didn't meet the learning intention.
4.) Check for the givens (spelling, capitals, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation)
5.) Give feedback to one student you don't often interact with (on the above criteria).

Crystals are so cool! They are also really nice to look at too! Today in class, we did an experiment making crystals.

At the beginning, me and my table group struggled to make the crystals and to work together. After Mr. Hong helped us we started to cooperate and could make the crystals as a team.

I think me and my table group somewhat met the learning intention, somewhat because we still needed a little help and support before making it. Like I said, after Mr. Hong helped us it was easy to make and simple.

I learned a new method on how to make crystals today. I made crystals a long time ago (4 years ago) with my friend and it was a total fail and a total waste of 20 dollars. This time it was easier, but I won’t know if it’s a success until next week or this week to see if it actually grows into a crystal.

In conclusion, I learned many new things, and had a fun time doing this project.

Today we did a cool science experiment that will not be ready tomorrow but it should be ready on Monday. We started to grow glow in the dark crystals. There were 6 colors, red, pink(that looked more like orange), yellow, green, blue and purple. We used the scientific method to do the experiment. First, we all came up with a question and a hypothesis. Then we made observations then experiments. The learning intention was: I can do a simple experiment by using the scientific method. I think that I met the learning intention because I followed the steps of the scientific method. However I think that I could have wrote down more observations. But I had lots of fun and I got to learn how to use a microscope.

@Brieana I also had lots of fun with the experiment! Some feedback from me would be to include a hook and a conclusion. As for the second last sentence, I think that a better word choice would be "written" instead of "wrote", also to add a comma after however. Also in the third sentence, it should be “colour” instead of “color”. Overall, great par!

Growing crystals is such a fun and easy activity, right? The learning intention for growing crystals is, I can conduct a simple experiment using the scientific method. although I feel like I only partially met the learning intention.

First, to make a crystal, get a tray and crystal powder. Pour some hot water in to your tray and make sure the water only reaches up to half of your base rock (the thing the crystal grows on). Then, put 3/4 of the crystal powder on to your tray. Stir until all powder dissolves. After, put the remaining powder in and stir. Finally, put the rocks in and wait for 3-7 days.

As for the learning intention, I only met most of it. I feel like I didn't fully meet the learning intention is that I used the scientific method, but I made a lot of mistakes in the process of making the crystal. I did not follow the instructions on the piece of paper very carefully, and I ended up making a lot of mistakes.

In conclusion, I only met part of the learning intention, but next time I know what to do when I make a crystal. Did you know that when we are making crystals, we are artificially repeating the real steps to making a crystal?

Crystals amazing looking stones! Today in class for science period we did an experiment a crystal forming experiment the LI or Learning Intention was I can conduct a simple science experiment by following the scientific method. Some observations I made were... The crystals were forming quickly when they were isolated from the water, The crystal powder looked like tiny sprinkles for a cake etc, etc. Anyways I believe I did not meet the LI because for some parts I did not follow anything for the last crystal pouch. Besides that I believe I followed the Learning Intention.

Something fun we did in class today was learning to make crystals.

I used the scientific method to reach the learning intention by following step by step procedures from Mr. Hong. It was hard at first to follow his instruction because there was no demonstration, but when Mr. Hong explained it to us, it made more sense. I also reached the learning intention by making the crystals.

It was fun making crystals and I hope we get to do it again.

Today we did a cool experiment in science. We made crystals that are still in the process of becoming actual crystals. I think I met the learning intention for this project because I followed the procedure exactly and made sure that I checked the steps carefully before I moved on. I made sure we used different amounts of water for each color and even made sure that my group mates were following the procedure.

At the first time it is very hard to make the crystals because we didn't have a good team work but after when Mr.Hong help it was easy to make a crystal.

Crystals a mineral found deep deep within the earth, beneath our line of view. Today at school, I think was the most awesome and cool science class I have ever had in my life. Mr. Hong was so kind to buy some interesting science activity packs from Dollarama stores, inside of these packs were small bags of coloured crystals, along with glow powder. Luckily in Mr. Fisher‘s class there were some extra microscopes, magnifying glasses, glass plates, measuring cups and just cups.

The concept of this science experiment was super simple, adding water and crystal coloured powder into the same cup then slowly but surely stirring it all together, then add rocks that’s would then sit at the bottom of the cup, once the step was completed you would if needed add more water then add the glow powder. during this process I also was able to help encrypt classmates mistakes.

This is a very fun science experiment I hope we can do more of this in the future.

Today was a very fun day I must say. It might not be the best day for you but it was for me! This afternoon, we did a very fun science experiment. We made crystals that glow in the dark! Not Krystelle in Mr. Fisher`s Class but an ice crystal that glows. Of course I learned something in the science experiment.

Never mind, I didn't learn very much but I know more clearly on how to use the scientific method. The part in this science experiment is that I didn't have to record the observations I made because I add everything into the cups and my table group just mixed and recorded their observations. Lucky me I know. But there is a learning Intention which is, 'I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method'. I think I reached the learning intention because I followed the procedure and listed all the materials ( Mr. Hong did the question and the hypothesis for us).

In conclusion, doing an experiment is fun but not recording the data you found in your observations. What other amazing science experiments will we be doing later on in the year 2020?

Have you ever heard about shimmering, shining, magical rocks? Do you want to know what it is? Introducing crystals! These magical rocks grow, and they even glow in the dark! Today I'm going to tell you what I learned during our science experiment today!

First of all what is the learning intention? The learning intention is I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method. I think I meet the learning intention, because I used all of the scientific method (expect the conclusion and analyzing part because our crystals haven't grown yet.) For example the class and I decided on our question and hypothesis. We used the materials to experiment. Finally in our groups we observed what the crystals looked like before and after the experiment. Next to what I learned! I learned how to make crystals, and I had some practice in using the scientific method!

In conclusion this was a very fun project, and I wonder how the crystals will turn out! I hope we get to do more cool science experiment though out the year!

Today, our class created glowing crystals! Or, rather, we started to. These crystals we're making are supposed to grow into glowing crystal-things. In this experiment, the learning intention was "I can conduct a simple experiment using the scientific method". During science period, I learned that if the there isn't enough water and there is a lot of sugar, the sugar cannot all dissolve due to the water absorbing the maximum amount that the amount of water can absorb. I never knew that before, and found it useful because now I know why my sugar won't all dissolve when making lemonade. We also learned to conduct an experiment by writing down all our qualitative and quantitative observations as we follow instructions to create glowing rocks.

I think I reached the learning intention as I completed the first few steps of the scientific method today, and wrote down many observations. I look forward to having science again!

Have you ever tried making crystals? Well, today we made crystals using the scientific method and I'm going to tell you about what I learned.

The learning intention for this science experiment was "I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method." And I felt that I met this learning intention since I conducted the experiment while following the steps and I did everything that was in the scientific method like materials, hypothesis, question, procedure and so on. Now onto what I learned today, I learned a lot of things like how to make a crystal grow on rocks which I never knew how to do but learned in this science class today. Making crystal was pretty easy since it didn't have any complicated steps that confused me.

In conclusion, I learned a lot from this science experiment and it was a fun time conducting this experiment.

I think most of us can agree that crystals are pretty cool. But for the vast majority of us crystals are relatively difficult to acquire, at least the nice ones. Well you can just make your own. Obviously wouldn't look anywhere near as good as actual nice crystals but hey, it was 4 dollars. We did exactly this in class and made some crystals or at least started making them.
The learning intention for this project was I can conduct a simple experiment using the scientific method. I think i did meet the learning intention as my group made a question, made a hypothesis , did the experiment and other parts of the scientific method. technically we didnt make the hypothesis or question ourselves as that was done as a class but i still assume that counts. I feel that i also understood and was able to use the scientific method well.
In conclusion making crystals is a interesting experience.

Today was the first time I grew crystals, and it was pretty interesting. Also I did learn a few things. Since this is my first time this kind of stuff, people think I should have learned a lot of things, but I didn't. I think this was because I spent most of my time using to microscope. The crystals are really hard to see because it's clear, however, the glow powder was really cool. I zoomed in x40 and saw everything. This was not a learning intention, so that means I was trying to reach the learning intentions, and I think I did reach them. One reason or this is I conducted the experiment and wrote down my observations without doing anything else until I was done. Another reason is I used the scientific method and wrote ll the stuff down. So in conclusion, I think the learning intention is really simple and easy to reach

How did the people like Isaac Newton find out about the Laws of Motion? My guess is that he used the scientific method. Today we also used the scientific method, but we didn't discover anything groundbreaking. I learned that when conducting experiments, you need to be extremely precise. When we made the first crystal, we didn't measure how much water we put in. If that crystal grows into the biggest one out of all our others, we won't know how much water to put in to replicate it. That's why we need to follow the scientific method. To answer questions the correct way.

Today's learning intention was I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method. I believe that I met that learning intention because I followed those steps when making the crystals. I filled in the sheet and worked off of it, using the procedure section to make the crystals. I also wrote down my observations on the information chart.

In conclusion, today was really fun. I think that it is a great way to learn the scientific method while keeping everybody engaged in the activity.

How did crystals come to be? Yesterday afternoon, we had an amazing science experiment with Mr.Hong. We were making glowing grow crystals in several different groups using various colours, materials, and tools.

The Learning Intention was, "I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method."
Our question was, "Does the amount of water affect the growth of the crystals?
Our hypothesis was, "If I use different amounts of water, then the crystals will grow at different rates."

Materials:
- crystal powder
- (hot, not boiling) water
- glow powder
- goggles
- experimental cups
- separate cups/containers
- magnifying glass
- a microscope
- small to medium sized rocks (for the base of the crystals)
- stirring stick

We then recorded the steps of making the crystals, and observed what happened after it dissolved. Everyone observed the crystals today as well and they all solidified and started to crystallize.

I learned to measure how much water and how much excess water we had. I learned that when conducting the experiment, you need to observe at the right time. Like observing before they start to solidify so you know what has changed. My group and I observed the size, texture, scent, weight, colour, and appearance of the crystals. I think I met the LI because I followed and kept up with the scientific method, and the process of the experiment. I also understood how to make glowing grow crystals.

Overall, I really enjoyed and had fun with this science experiment, since I've never done it before. It might've even been the best science session too!

On January 22nd, we had our first science experiment of our school year! Unfortunately, I wasn't there that afternoon so I didn't get to do the experiment myself, but luckily my tablemates had done it for me!

LI: I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method

I can't say whether or not I met the LI (since I was away) but according to this week's observations, I can confirm that my group met the LI. They did my crystal for me, and follow the scientific procedure. Although, I did see that generally our table group's crystal was growing at a much slower pace compared to other groups. For my crystal personally, the issue was that there was too much water. I could tell by the fact that on the day they made it, it was 12.5mL. The next day, I measured it, and it remained 12.5mL. Crystals didn't start forming until the most recent observation day.

Overall, this experiment process was very fun. and hopefully next time I can participate in the actual experiment process :).

Crystals are amazing, but the kind of crystals we are making are different. We have been working on a experiment on glowing crystals!

The learning intention is I can conduct a simple science experiment using the scientific method. I think I have met the learning intention because I followed the procedure, but it was hard to follow at first. Then, Mr.Hong came and helped me and my group so it was ok at the end.

Crystals are fun to make and I would like to make them again someday.

On January 22, we had an experiment where we made crystals. I think I met the learning intention of conducting an experiment using the scientific method because even though I didn't do the first part of the experiment, I worked with my group mates to complete the rest. I wrote down all my observations and discussed everything with my group mates. They filled me in on what I missed so I was able to complete the experiment. This was a very fun experience and I hope we can do it again.
