Today, students started the day off by building on their powers of observation. More specifically, they took qualitative and quantitative observations of their ecosystems! Students observed how to use the scales and took accurate measurements using the weight system. They also used their senses to make their observations. Later, they completed their science quiz and had a lesson on prime and composite numbers. In the afternoon, they finished off the literacy component of the FSA.

IMPORTANT:
1.) HOODIES: Make sure you pay for your hoodie if you have not yet done so. This will help us avoid any delays.
2.) HOMEWORK: Those students who did not mark/correct their homework over the weekend, be sure to do this and bring it back to school tomorrow.

Do you know how to write a paragraph? Writing paragraphs look hard but are actually quite easy. To start you paragraph you have to have a hook to draw the reader in. After you do the hook you create you body explaining the topic your talking about. For your body you have to have 3 supporting details with examples. After the bod and intro you do the conclusion. The conclusion just wraps up whatever the topic is and sums it all up. That is how you make a good and correct paragraph.

Asking a question is a great hook. After the hook, you create your body paragraph(s) explaining the topic. You have to have 3 supporting details with specific examples. Using specific examples helps create a better picture that helps the readers understand more easily. After the hook and body paragraph(s), you write the conclusion. The conclusion restates the main idea and summarizes all your points. After you finish writing, be sure to read it again and make sure you have “the givens” (punctuation, spelling, and grammar) and make corrections on your own before you submit. That is how you make a good paragraph.

Writing a paragraph is like building a brick wall. You build layers, upon layers, upon layers. Each layer needs another to support it. If you take one layer out, your wall isn’t complete. If you put things in the wrong order, it doesn’t make sense. However, if you build a smooth, straight wall, it’ll hold together; just like a paragraph. So, here are the steps to building a perfect paragraph. First, you need an intro. The intro is the first thing that the reader sees, so it must be gripping, or compelling, so that the reader will want to read more. The second part of a paragraph is the body. The body is the main part of a paragraph. Without it, you would barely have a paragraph at all. This component is where you put all of your supporting details, and dive in further about your topic. When writing your body, you need to use transition words to show that you're switching to another part of your topic. You can use transition words such as first, second, third, and also. Here, you can dump all of your facts, examples, and metaphors and whatnot, and it won't be too messy. In fact, a lot of times, it's better to dump everything here than to keep it bare. For example, if I wrote, "Dogs are good. They are better than cats. They are nice," that wouldn't be interesting at all! Now, if I wrote, "Do you have a favourite pet? Well, I do. I think that dogs are the best pet to have, and here are my reasons why. Firstly, dogs are very kind and understanding. They are always there for you. For example, if you were having a bad day, your pet dog would sit down with you and keep you company." Isn't that much better and descriptive? This is why the body of a paragraph is so important. It expands further into the main topic, and keeps the reader interested. The last component of a paragraph is the conclusion. The conclusion is where you end your paragraph. Usually, the conclusion is similar to the intro of the paragraph, but worded differently. And that's it! That's all you need to have in a paragraph. @Bethany - This paragraph was so detailed, it's extraordinary! I think you went beyond the expectations of the success criteria, because it seemed so perfect! I really loved when you did a comparison between a paragraph and a brick wall. It's so accurate, and it shows that you know what a really good paragraph should be like.

Feedback - Feedback...Yeah, there really isn't much to say. I read this so many times, yet I can only find one flaw in your paragraph. When I read the sentence that said 'here, you can dump all of your facts, examples, and metaphors and whatnot, and it won't be too messy.' I recommend adding a little more when it comes to those list-sentences, because you don't want to jump onto the next idea in a sentence to suddenly. You could try changing the words a bit, because when I read the three "and's" in the same sentence, it felt a bit repetitive. It's like listening to someone say "I like apples, and books, and pencils, and music, and..." Instead, you could write your sentence like this: 'Here, you can dump your facts, examples, metaphors, and so on, and despite there being so much, it won't seem messy at all. In fact...' Other than that, great job, as always!

If you miss one component, your paragraph will not be written nicely and will fall apart. What's a paragraph and how do you write a paragraph?
A paragraph is a way to organize a piece of writing. Usually you start with an introduction sentence. The opening sentence should have an engaging hook. Usually after the introduction there's detail sentence where you give details, examples, and proof/evidence or backing.
Finally, at the end of your paragraph you might want to add a concluding sentence.

Also you should check for grammar/spelling mistakes after you finish
writing the paragraph so you know what to edit, read it out loud because it's easier to find mistakes when you read it compared to when you when you actually read it in your head.

Paragraphs, one of the many things books have to make it interesting. Why, your reading one right now! Writing is something I've been interested in since 2rd grade because it creates images in your mind, and you can write it down and create whatever you want with your imagination being the limits. Creating small stories, writing projects back in 4th grade or doing writing assignments, like this make me really like writing, and all of them have one thing in common. Writing. And paragraphs obviously, paragraphs are structured buildings with each floor as a important role to do to create, well, paragraphs! Paragraphs have a beggining, body, and an end of a topic you're writing about, each takes time to do because you need details, supporting beams to keep the building from falling, and last but not least, spelling and grammar as tenants if you'd like.take for example, a topic of a big mac burger, another way to describe a paragraph, to support your paragraph, explain how the big mac might be the best burger in the world, like how it's really delicious and sweet, and describe how it's really tasty to engage the reader, that's called a hook, a tool in paragraphs to hook and exite the reader to keep reading, like how books do this to you, and you don't even notice. There's many types of paragraphs out there like a persuasive paragraph, which you explain how a topic may be bad, or good to persuade the reader. But either way, both create images, and exites, scares, surprises, or influences the reader that create something wonderful for the reader to keep reading. I hope you exited you in with my paragraph, try writing one for yourself, show it to others, because imagination is what humans, humans.

That is a very well written paragraph with good paragraph structure.
There are a lot of details but maybe pay a bit more attention to grammar and spelling. You spelt excited wrong a couple times and you wrote 2rd instead of "2nd", but other than those minor details it's a very strong paragraph.

For this paragraph, I used a question and then a simile to attract readers. After the intro is the body of the paragraph. This part should include two to three details and examples to explain the topic. The body of a paragraph is similar to all the text contained in the book. The body of this paragraph is all the details explaining the three main parts in a paragraph. At the end of your paragraph, you should add a conclusion sentence to sum up your paragraph. It should be similar to the introduction, but worded a bit differently. In this paragraph, the conclusion is all the text below after this sentence. How do we write a paragraph?
Firstly, You have to have a interesting body/hook or a main idea to have the readers attention. Secondly, You have to have at least 3 supporting sentences about you main idea. For exmaple, Body/ hook will be Allie is a Really Good Friend, then you write 3 details why is Allie a really good friend. Thirdly, an concluding sentence. It's bassiclly a sentece which finishes off you paragraph. For example, Thats why Allie is such a good friend. thats how you write a paragraph. The way I learned to write a paragraph is the burger paragraph look at the example below.

Do you know how to write a structured paragraph? Well you might already learned it and grade four or five then I'm going to review it for you. First of all in a paragraph you need a hook, the hook is used to pull the reader into the rest of the writing then you need it introduction sentence. After the introduction sentence we're going on to the body sentences, body sentences is the part you write all the information you want to tell in other words it's the part you prove your introduction sentence, body sentences usually has two two four sentences. Finishing riding the body sentences it's time to move on to the concluding sentence. The concluding sentence should be powerful and if you only read the introduction sentence and the concluding sentence it should make sense. Saying of concluding sentence, my paragraph needs one now. Teachers always say writing a paragraph is like making a sandwich, but what does that mean? It means a paragraph should have layers, if you take one out, it will not work. A paragraph has three layers, an engaging hook or introduction, a body with supporting sentences, and a conclusion. If you miss one of the parts, your paragraph will be not well written and will not be complete. It's like not putting the ham in the sandwich, it would not taste as good. But how do you write a good paragraph and make it engaging? First of all, you need an engaging hook to "hook" the reader so that they want to read your paragraph. You can ask a question, drop your reader into the middle of the action, or make a surprising statement and remember to stay away from description. After you are done with your hook you'll be moving on to the body of the paragraph. The body of a paragraph consists of 3 points, which are reasons, details or examples to support your statement. The final thing you want to include in your paragraph is the conclusion. The conclusion wraps up the things in your paragraph and reminds the reader of what your paragraph is about. What is writing a paragraph? writing a Paragraph sounds hard to write but if you try to write a paragraph it is actually simple but an important thing about paragraphs is that a paragraph is about 1 same related topic because if you want to write about vehicles in Vancouver there are lots of different vehicles and paragraphs are separated from other paragraphs. This is an example of a paragraph for writing a whole article about vehicles in Vancouver is about Sky trains which belongs in paragraph 1 while buses belong in paragraph 2 while the other vehicles belong in different Paragraphs, and it keeps on going from 2-3 paragraphs or it could be more. Paragraphs are always about a sub-topic that you want to put it into a big topic. I do have my own example which is writing a article about TransLink. Note: if you want to write about it, you should always start with an intro at the first and end with a conclusion, but we are focusing on paragraphs. The paragraphs in the TransLink article are like this as an example: #1: technology, #2: history, #3 future extensions, and #4: how did they order Sky train cars? These are 4 Paragraphs in the article, but I only put few words in the paragraph topic so if you want to write a paragraph you have to write about the topics in the article and that is how you write a paragraph. Uncertain how to type a paragraph, and unsure how to begin the sentences and end it? well, to become a good writer, starting off the sentence you can stick to one topic and not changing it from time to times like for an example, if you were to begin the sentence off as "I got a new dog" and you changed the topic in the middle of the sentences to what you had for dinner or what so ever, that wouldn't make any sense since it would confuse the reader. once finishing your sentence up, you want to finish it up putting a final conclusion like for an example how you can end it, "and I wish to visit the place again once I get the change to!" But that's just one way! One suggestion is that not using the same words repeatedly like using "and" continuously in a sentence, but instead you can use the word but it's just spelt our differently but it'll be the same meaning! Like if you kept saying you felt happy in a sentence, change it to "I felt cheerful!' or felt energized! writing a good paragraph may be hard if you've never written one before, but once you've gotten the hang of it, it'll be easier each time to write a good paragraph or even an SA!

A paragraph is quite similar to a multi-layer cake. Now, I know, it seems weird. How is a paragraph similar to a cake? Well, like a piece of cake, a paragraph is made up of "layers". If you forget to do something or don't do it properly, it's going to crumble and fall. Just like how, if you forget to cool your cakes down before you stack them, they crumble and break down. The first thing that is required in a proper paragraph is, of course, an introduction/hook. It will tell you, 1, what the paragraph is about, and 2, hook you into the paragraph. Get you intrigued. The second thing, is a body. Your sentences. Adding supporting details. For a full paragraph, it should include at LEAST 2-3 supporting details/sentences. Finally, a conclusion. Ending your sentence is quite important. You can't just leave it out an open.
Now, how do you create such a strong paragraph that will leave the reader satisfied? Using those three point! For example, let's say we're writing about Billy's marathon. Saying "Today is Billy's marathon" isn't a really good hook or introduction. We'll start with "3, 2, 1! AND THEY'RE OFF!" This intrigues the reader and hooks them into the paragraph. Next, list 2-3 points you will talk about. Some, as an example, would be:
- Billy's been training for many months
- it's 50 km long
- he's running for...
Then, end it off with a conclusion! If he was running for cancer research, you could end it off with "You should try it too! Running for a better cause and for your health!" When using this paragraph structure, your paragraphs will be interesting and will benefit your writing!

Writing a paragraph is a big part of the writing section in learning. Writing a paragraph may sound hard but trust me, it is easy! For me I use the example of a sandwich for the paragraph structure, the top is the bread which equals to the introduction into the subject you're writing about in this paragraph. Then your tomato would be the hook, the engaging sentence that makes the reader really wonder what you are writing about. After the tomato is the ham, ham would be the first supporting sentence to the topic and the hook. The lettuce is the 2nd supporting sentence and the cheese would obviously be the 3rd supporting sentence. Keep in mind that you must always have 3 points or sentences that get along with your topic. At the end you have the conclusion which is the bottom bun of the sandwich! For example, if you were going to write a paragraph about the evolution of Pencil crayons; you would have a very interesting introduction such as "Have you ever wondered what type of pencil crayons they used in the past?"
But overall I do like my sandwich method and I find it very helpful when writing a paragraph!

Next lets move onto the body of our paragraph, you need maybe 2-3 supporting details for your paragraph something that supports your paragraph well enough that you can explain that topic well. Then you need a concluding sentence, every paragraph needs a concluding sentence to wrap up the last part of the paragraph. Obviously I’m not finished but some other things you probably need in order to write your paragraph is ..ideas. You need ideas to write your paragraph otherwise are you just gonna write a paragraph with no ideas? Second is organization you DEFINITELY need organization in your paragraph. It is very important to have that in your paragraph or otherwise you might end up having your engaging sentence at the bottom and the conclusion sentence at the top of your paragraph 💀. Third we have word choice. Make sure you don’t use the same words in your paragraph over and over again, sometimes it will make the reader get bored and not feel like reading your paragraph anymore if you repeat the same words over and over. Fourth make sure you have sentence fluency. What I mean by that is make sure your sentences all flow nicely together in the paragraph. Lastly we have the givens. The givens are spelling, capitals, and sentence structure. But mostly last of all is knowing these tips for writing your paragraphs. When you know how to write a structured paragraph it really helps in the future and might even help you this year.

Writing paragraphs are very important, and today I am going to be teaching the proper way to write one. First, hook. Doesn't matter what you are writing about, you would want the reader to be interested in your paragraph so you write an interesting topic sentence. For example, "Do you know why gravity exists?", that is a really interesting topic and the reader would definately want to know about it. The next step is body paragraph. You need to write the explaination of why gravity exists from research. When you do a lot of research and tell the reader they will believe in what you are saying more. If it is a thesis, like you are showing your opinion, then the body paragraph is to prove why you think that way. Your main point of writing a thesis paragraph is to convince the reader to think the same about your opinion. Last but not least, conclusion sentence. You repeat what your opinion was or what you are teaching them and write a basic summary in a few words of your points about it. Then you check your paragraph to see if there are any grammar mistakes, run on sentences, and check if you did all these points I talked about. These are the points I know from my background knowledge about how to write a proper paragraph. Hope it has helped you a lot in the futured.
