6 Traits of Good Writing

Today, students started the day off by learning more about 'WRITE TRAITS'. We continued our lesson on 'IDEA GENERATION'. Students used various strategies to brainstorm ideas for various topics. This allowed students to see how powerful their brainstorming powers can be to help them get their thoughts out on paper. Students starting noticing how it helped them with their writing by providing them with prompts for their sentences/paragraphs.

Watch the video below and follow the instructions below.

This video was put out by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). They are a world famous news organization.
Students from Mr. Hong's class last year, you do not need to complete the PAR. However, you must ask your classmates questions about their responses. Your questions should revolve around what we did last year on 'RELIABLE SOURCES'. Don't give away too much in your questions.
Post a paragraph and include the following items:

World penguin day is an awesome day celebrating these adorable creatures on Thursday April 25th. Something I learned from the video is that penguins don't need to huddle together for warmth, they I guess "fly" for warmth. I don't think this video is real well because, penguins can't fly, but they can only fly underwater just like puffins and it just doesn't seem believable, also because it looks very Photoshoped and unrealistic and they icebergs in the video looks very fake, plus when the penguins were "flying" they don't look like penguins at all.

This video posted by BBC is about penguins that can supposedly "fly". What I learned was that this is fake here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzhDsojoqk8 and not to trust anything you on APRIL FOOLS DAY first the editing was pretty low quality and it also looked pretty fake from the beginning. I don't think this is trust worthy because i checked the description of the video. In conclusion this video is FAKE NEWS.

Todays P.A.R asked us to watch a video about flying penguins. Apparently a recently discovered type of penguins has an amazing creature power; these penguins can fly! But is it real? I for one don't think so. All research has shown that penguins cannot fly. They can "fly" through the water, but not in the air. When I searched up "can penguins fly", some interesting things came up. One said that they cannot. But when I went to the top of the page I saw Wikipedia I knew that it would be wrong, I thought that I might check it out anyway. It said that "Miracles of Evolution is a BBC film trailer featuring flying penguins made in 2008 as an April Fools' Day hoax. The film was advertised as compelling evidence for Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.", and even tough that I know that Wikipedia is not very trustworthy, I had to agree with them. This is my paragraph for P.A.R today.

I never knew that penguins could fly. Since I was little, I always learned that penguins were too big to fly. I did find out that penguins used to fly, but because the moved to the south with little predators, they stopped flying and now they can't. But this video shows proof that penguins can fly, even if only one colony. I believe this video is trustworthy because BBC is very big and I'm a gullible person. I am very shocked to learn that penguins in fact can fly but I believe it.

You don't have 100% proof so that's just your opinion. Just because it's posted on April first does not mean it's a April fool's prank. Also you can rephrase that, you can make it something like: @Amy, your par is great but in my opinion I think it's just a April fool's prank. Can you give another reason you believe it's real?

@Mr.Hong, the video you sent us was an April fools prank, in reality the cannot fly. I found this out from searching about this video because it seemed to be CGI and it turned out that is was a fake. Therefore this info is false. I think you should inform us about this video being fake.

Can penguins fly? According to the video for the par, they can, but is that true? Let's find out.
This video was about flying penguins. Something I learned from this video is that these penguins don't need to huddle together for warmth and that they fly to the rain forests of South America. Is that true? I don't think so, because the video looks pretty fake and the penguins didn't even look real, especially when there flying. Plus when I searched up flying penguins. It says it was a hoax and an April fools day prank.
In conclusion you can't trust everything on internet.

Since when could penguins fly? my whole life i was told that penguins and ostriches are the only birds that can't fly. why is there a sudden change only now? According to the BCC video, they've found a new species of birds that can fly. in my opinion i don't believe that. the reasoning behind that is, this would be considered a life changing discovery for us humans and if this was true, i would probably already have heard of this on the news or on the newspaper because it seems like it would be a bigger deal then this. also wouldn't we be slightly less concerned about climate change because the penguins could just fly to greenland or something. in conclusion i don't believe that that video is real because we would heard more news or at least already have known about it by now.

Today I watched I video that claimed that a species of penguins could fly instead of huddling up for winter. They say that they use this ability to go to a rainforest in South America to stay warm during winter. Although it may seem possible to some people I still don’t believe that penguins can fly because why would we be finding this out now and penguins body’s were made for the cold not to be in the warmth. Also the food chain would mess up both in there new location and old.

Even though it would be amazing to have found another species of penguins that could fly it’s just not believable to me anyways. I have always been told that only place that a penguin can fly is in the ocean.

If you don't believe this, how can you tell for sure? The BBC is a very reliable news source.

This video shows that penguins can fly.

I didn't learn anything because I know penguins' wings aren't hollow and they have too much weight so it made it impossible for them to fly. The penguins flew to a hot island that's way too hot for a penguin's habitat. This video was a April fool's day prank.

You can't trust everything you see on the internet.

There is a video about penguins flying. I do not believe any of this. First, the man's reactions were not full hearted. It was more like acting. Right away I could tell this video was a prank. Secondly, it is super obvious that the animation was fake. BBC did not put a lot of effort in to animating/editing the video. Lastly, the video was most likely posted on April 1st. Even though, the video was by a famous news channel, they can still play pranks. Therefore, the video did not fool me at all.

Who knew penguins could fly? Today I watched a video and it told me penguins can fly. Like who would believe that. Well according the BCC video, they found a species of penguins that can fly. In my opinion, it is possible mostly because last year I read an article how scientists believe penguins can fly a very, very long time ago. They think penguins were like normal birds (flying and migrating). But when they stumbled on to Antarctica, their way of living changed. Instead of flying, swooping and catching fish, they ended up learning how to swim to catch fish. As the years pasted the penguins lost their ability to fly because there aren`t very many reasons for penguins to fly because in Antarctica,like who in the sky eats penguins. In my final opinion, I think this video is fake because at the beginning of the video the penguins were at a frozen, cold island and then they flew to a tropical island. Wouldn't they be burning in the heat because of their thick coat? AND, I also think this video has been animated because how can they get a perfect view from a camera like that. Wouldn`t they startle the "new" species of penguins. Also I did not learn anything from this video.

Even though it would be great for a "new" species of penguins that could fly, its just very unbelievable. So when you come across a video like this, USE YOUR BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE!!! Cause that's what I did.

Today I will talk about this fake video of flying penguins that looks extremely real for a fake video. In this video it showed normal penguins that just flew away the thing about this video I would of thought it was real if the take of the penguins was not so perfectly time with the mans words and the mans expressions where not believing if it wasn’t for that I would of thought it was real. After all it’s acting and editing so it can’t be perfect but the video was pretty convincing.

@Gabriel, were there any other telltale signs that this video is real or fake? Did you go deeper and see when the video was made? If it was posted a long time ago it is most likely outdated information.

We all know that penguins cannot fly. Or can they?
In this BBC video, they claimed that penguins COULD fly. In their so called "proof" video, they said that there were such things as "flying penguins." Strange, huh? I find it quite hard to believe.
Firstly, we've never heard of any flying penguins (or at least the majority of us I believe). As we were taught in school, penguins were considered birds, but were never known to fly. It earned them the nickname "flightless bird." That is my first suspicion.
Secondly, the video did not look very good quality. Everything seemed like edited footage and was not real. The penguins flying looked fake as the camera angles were too precisely angled and perfect, a flying penguin could easily bump into the camera. The video was also posted on March 31st, 2008, a day before April Fools. This leads me to think that this video is fake.

In conclusion, although I want to believe this video is true, it is not.

Have you ever wonder if penguins could fly? This video can show you a small glimpse of this never before seen sight.Obviously this is fake and an April fools joke, from the clearly artificial penguins to the fact that they fly to a place quite opposite where they traditionally live. When I first watched this video I was a little skeptical of the statements made by the narrator and the environment seemed very artificial. I decide to do a little bit of my own research and found out that in reality penguins do not fly, the video shown was an April fools joke. This was not a surprise to me because ever since i learned about penguins teachers and students would always say that penguins do not fly, and when i saw this article telling a different story, I knew it was a lie.

In conclusion, if anything you see in a video or any sort of media in general that seems too good to be true, chances are it is.

World penguin day is a wonderful day to celebrate these super cool animals, penguins. The video shows us that this type of penguin can actually fly! Penguins are my favourite animals so I was extremely fascinated by this interesting video. I thought it was real, until I saw all the comments in our P.A.R. saying that these news are fake, and of course me being so gullible I would've thought that this was really real. After watching it again, I knew that the video was really fake because I realized that the penguins flew to a place with a warm temperature and obviously that is definitely not where penguins belong. I think that this video is an April Fools joke because it was published a day before April Fools day.

That is why I am sure that penguins cannot ever fly.

This video is fake. As much as I would like to believe that this is a thing its not true. Here are why I think so. First of all this video was posted by the BBC. The BBC is a news organization funded by the british Government. Many government funded news organizations post biased/outright wrong content. This is the rare instance where one was created as a joke right before april fools day. That is the second clue. The third clue is the very obvious Computer Generated Imagery or CGI. It is hidden badly despite the fact that it would be easy to hide such things with the fact that this was made in 2008 and filmed at such a low resolution that i could count the number of pixels in one hand. the penguins look way to smooth and so does the ice. there is also a noticeable increase in the number of frames per second. Not to mention that penguin migration would probably be quite noticable even starting from somewhere desolate such as antarctica. This coupled with the fact that it is unrealistic for birds of any sort to fly 9000km above water wherew they cant even rest. In conclusion dont trust the media the government and take pretty much anything and everything with a pinch of salt. research things before telling everyone blatantly false information such as vaccinations dont work and the canadian government isnt corrupt.

World penguin day is a day to celebrate these awesome animals and penguins were one of my favorite animal, and when I saw this video I was becoming suspicious because it looked faked. Then I did some research about penguins and I found out that penguins were able to fly eons ago, well I knew penguins could fly but I didn't know it was eons! After I did some more research about bbc penguin world day i found out that it was an April fools prank. So my guess was correct that penguins can't fly anymore and what I learned about researching about this video is that penguins could fly eons ago and don't trust everything you see if it looks suspicious.
In conclusion, you shouldn't trust everything you see like this video which was fake, and I learned penguins could fly eons ago but not anymore since they stopped flying and swam more so the s.a.i.d. principle made them better swimmers and made them lose their ability to fly.

I knew it! I knew there was a type of penguin that could fly! I learned that penguins can fly and that they move to a hotter place in the winter. and for all the non-believers in my classroom, I think that this video is trustworthy because its BBC(bRiTiSh BrOaDcAsTiNg CoRpOrAtIoN). so, *snort*, i'm obviously right...

Were there any signs showing that this video was fake? In my opinion, i think that this video does look very convincing, but maybe we shouldn't trust everything on the internet. Maybe deep a little deeper on this topic.

Today our P.A.R was to watch a video about flying penguins.They claimed that penguins fly to rain forests instead of huddling in the winter. That doesn't make sense because penguins do not have wings of feather but instead they have flippers, which is not very common among birds but it is true. The other reason is that is looks fakes.

I think this video about penguins I fake because first of all I don’t think that penguins can fly to the rain forests because their natural climate is in Antarctica which has cold weather another thing is it all seemed fake and photoshopped because the mans expressions looked fake and some of the facts didn’t quite add up

In this video about penguins I learned that penguins have evolved and now can fly. I think that this video is fake because I never seen a bird that can fly with flippers, usually with feathers and wings. And another reason why I think this video is fake is because it was on April fools day. In conclusion, If this is real then I would like to see a penguin fly someday.
