Today, we started the day off by synthesizing/evaluating/analyzing a poem. Students are quickly improving their comprehension of text and are using the reading strategies that they feel help them most. Many students shared their 'visible thinking' today on the poem titled, "A Night in a World." Students pushed my thinking during the modelling of the assignment and you could see how every time a student shared their thoughts, it pushed the thinking of the rest of the class! Keep up the good work everyone! Tomorrow, students will create their own poems using the structure of the one we went over today!

LEARNING INTENTION: I can share something I do in December to celebrate my culture/background/heritage.

2.) BODY: Include at least 2-3 examples and support for things you do during this celebration.
3.) GIVENS/CONVENTIONS: Spelling/capitals/punctuation/grammar, and sentence structure.
4.) SELF-ASSESSMENT: Write a sentence after your paragraph to indicate you have copelted a self-assessment of the above criteria.
5.) PEER-ASSESSMENT: Give 1-2 people feedback based whether or not they have given 2-3 examples and have provided some support for those examples.
6.) REVISION: Post your revised version based on your self-assessment and/or your peer-feedback you received.

What do you celebrate?

I celebrate Christmas.
In the morning my dad, mom and my sister open our stockings.
Around 11:00 all my Family members come over and we open our presents from them. At 12:00 we eat BLTS = bacon, lettuce, and tomato and after that we play with her presents.
Everyone leaves around 1:30 and we chill around and enjoy the holidays spirt. At dinner time around 5 o’clock we go to our cousins house and we eat turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, and gravy. After that we all watch a movie and relax then around 10 o’clock we go home and sleep. That is my Christmas Day.

FEEDBACK: In the sentence "I also celebrate Christmas too.", there's no need for the 'also'. When you put also, you're implying that you do something in addition to another thing. However, because you don't have another holiday or event before Christmas, you don't need to add the also.
FEEDBACK 2: A suggestion could be that instead of having "In the morning we get dressed up, eat breakfast, and we get ready to enjoy the day, I also open my presents after eating my breakfast.", you could break it into two sentences. For example, "On Christmas morning, we get dressed up, eat breakfast, and get ready to enjoy the day. After eating breakfast, I'll open my presents."

As I enter my friend's house, I am woken up by the positive holiday spirit in the atmosphere with an exquisitely decorated cedar tree and wrapped-up present ready to be distributed. The fragrance of the roasted turkey fills the air and lures me into kitchen. What day am I talking about? Christmas! From Christmas Eve to Christmas Day, my family and I engage in several holiday-spirited activities. Firstly, on Christmas Eve, we visit our friends yearly and enjoy dinner with them. With delicious turkey, stir-fried vegetables, seafood, beef, and more, it is impossible to refuse to eat such a lavish meal. After that, my family and friends follow our annual tradition in exchanging gifts. Because we are both giving and receiving presents, the serotonin in our bodies boost up. Finally, on Christmas Day, I rush down the stairs early in the morning to open my gifts. What do I do On the 25th of December?

On the 25th of December,

I wake up to celebrate Christmas with my family, I usually wake up around 11:30am and eat lunch for breakfast, my family is usually there by the the time I wake up, We don't really make anything, we just order takeout. After lunch, My family members have conversations while I act like I care about what they are talking about. By around 7:00, which is around the time we finish eating a different type of takeout for dinner, I open my Christmas presents.
I don't really get a lot of presents because my birthday is a week before Christmas, I get most of my presents on my birthday.

That's how I spend my Christmas literally every year, How do you spend your holidays?

What’s something that some of us celebrates during December 25th-27th? Well, if you’re unsure it’s Christmas! Not everyone celebrates Christmas and it’s not a must, but people celebrate it for the fun! For the gifts, the parties and for the fun. A way that I celebrate Christmas is giving and receiving gifts, and hanging out with family. I genuinely think that Christmas is a day to be appreciative not like as if any other day isn’t but just saying, and making ginger bread houses. Christmas may not be my favourite holiday to celebrate, but it’s still a good one to reflect on

Feedback - I think you should combine the fourth sentence with the third sentence, so that it wouldn't seem as wordy: "Not everyone celebrates Christmas and it's not a must, but people celebrate it for the gifts, the parties, and the fun!"

I celebrate Christmas and I sometimes celebrate Hanukkah with my family friends. The way I celebrate Hanukkah is by going over to their house, making a Hanukkah dinner, and singing a Jewish song. The way I celebrate Christmas is the traditional way of getting and giving. On Christmas we also take a picture of all of us around the Christmas tree wearing Christmas sweaters.

A lot of people celebrate christmas as i do myself, these are some things I do in this time of the season. i will be naming the top lets say 4 things i do on christmas 1. opening presents, as a kid everyone knows that its one of the best feeling when waking up and getting to open your presents and stocking. 3. giving people gifts and spending time with family when you grow older it feels a lot better to give people gifts its just as good opening gifts then giving gifts and spending time with family is just fun on this ocation everybody comes over and then we eat a good amount of food. 2. the food and drinks by this i mean the eggnog the turkey the hot choclate ext. this just fills everyone up with joy. 1. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values." This is a quote by Thomas S. Monson, and it really emphasizes the spirit and meaning of Christmas. I don't know about you, but my favourite holiday is without doubt, Christmas. It's a time where I can forget about all my problems and have one day to relax. Christmas never fails to bring a smile to my face, and there are many reasons for this. During the holiday season, my family and I like to either go ice skating or skiing/snowboarding with friends. Although there's been some tragic incidents in the past, it's a way to get together with friends and family and enjoy the snow and ice while it lasts. The second way my family and I like to spend our Christmas is exchanging gifts with our friends. One of the main things we enjoy doing is arranging Secret Santa exchanges with friends. A lot of the time, we'll hang out with them for the whole day and of course, exchange gifts. Last but definitely not least, one of the most exciting parts about Christmas, opening presents! The adrenaline that runs through my body when I unravel my presents is always thrilling. A lot of the time, we'll hang out with them for the whole day and of course, the most important part, exchange gifts. Last but definitely not least, one of the most exciting components of Christmas, opening presents! The adrenaline that runs through my body when I unravel my gifts is always thrilling. Although Christmas is a season of joy and excitement, my family and I have a tradition to always take a few moments to appreciate and be thankful for what we received, as not everything should be taken for granted. Now, of course everything about Christmas should be fun, festive, and relaxing, but the amount of money we spend on Christmas presents is absolutely overwhelming! However, to be able to see your friends and family so delighted, it's always worth it in the end.

Do you celebrate Christmas? I do! Christmas is one of the best holiday during a year, you get presents, a feast, and you get to gather around with your relatives. On December, 25th, I would be the earliest to get up in my house and enjoy a cup of nice and warm hot chocolate. Secondly, I would open up the presents that I saved up during weeks before Christmas. Then, it is about my parents wake up, I would wish them a Merry Christmas then we would go shopping because of the Boxing Day sale. After all of the shopping, we would enjoy the holiday sprit at home and wait for the potluck with my relatives. Lastly, we have a fancy feast which is the part I enjoyed the most. In conclusion, I think Christmas is the best holiday of the year, since you get loads of presents and winter break to relax yourself, even after Christmas I still get to celebrate New Year.

December is full of different holidays that different cultures celebrate. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa are some just to name a few. I for example, celebrate Christmas. On Christmas Eve, my family usually goes to my grandparents' house for dinner, where I can see my cousins, and other more distant relatives. (We also have dinner with the other side of the family, just on a different day.) I really enjoy having these dinners, because the food is really good, and I get to run around the house and have fun with my cousins. It is also fun to see the giant pile of presents from each relative, and sorting through them to see which one is for who. When it's time to leave, we take all of our presents home and put them under the tree. The next day, I usually have to wait a while for my brother to wake up so we can open the presents. This is very hard for me because I am sometimes impatient, mostly when I'm excited. When finally all of us are up, me and my brother rush to the Christmas tree to unwrap the presents, but we don't get to do it immediately because my parents want us to take a nice family photo. After it is certain we are done taking photos, we rush to the Christmas tree and unwrap our presents. We don't really do much else after this, but sometimes our other cousin comes with her family, and we host dinner. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, the month of December has a lot of holidays and is just a nice time of the year.

December is a month were you have fun and celebrate with your family like Christmas, Hanukkah and more.I celebrate Christmas.My family stay up at the 24th waiting for Christmas to come at 12:00pm then open up the gifts with the family.At the 10th of December we make a bunch of tamales to celebrate our culture.We spent time with our family and play games like uno or a boardgame.I hope everyone is having a great time in December.

How Filipinos spend their Christmas!
Christmas is one of my favourite holidays because I earned a lot of money and received a lot of presents! Did you know in my country we celebrate christmas the day before christmas and the actual christmas day. Before Christmas Eve we prepare a lot of food like Filipino desserts, a lot of Filipino dishes. We have a tradition that every December we need to go to church. Every Sunday we have midnight mass. They said that if you complete the mass every week you will have good luck and have the best year that’s what they said but everybody believes it because it’s true! Every December 24th is celebrated with the midnight mass and we have the traditional “Noche buena” in English (Christmas eve) . After the mass my Grandparents were cooking a lot of different types of Filipino dishes. I can tell you the dish that Filipino people have every (Christmas Eve)!
Firstly we have Barbecue but Filipino style! Second we have a famous Spaghetti but wait it’s not just a normal spaghetti it’s a Filipino style way more better than the normal ones! We call it (Pinoy spaghetti) The famous routine dish that is found in almost every Filipino celebration! Third we have Ham with Pineapple glaze , one of the best Filipino dishes. It's juicy and a little bit sweet and sour at the same time! This dish brings out the regal essence in one’s festive occasion. And next we have “bibingka and Puto Bumbong” (steamed rice pancake and steamed glutinous rice). One of the famous Filipino dishes that we were proud of! Next one we have Quezo de bola(Edam) . It tastes so good. I love it!
Ok next we have Lumpiang ubod( vegetable spring roll) . This is the best part of Christmas eve. I love this dish and it's one of my favourite dishes! It’s insanely good! Next now we have the Filipino dessert called Macaroni salad, one of my favourite Filipino desserts and one of the best parts of Christmas eve!
Now we're moving on to the actual Christmas day we go to our Godparents houses and Aunt’s uncle’s houses to ask for a present there is a tradition that we go to our Godparents house and ask them for a present and money but usually we get money and got $50 to $100 it depends if your favourite of your godparents but yeah they gave us money and presents same as my Uncle’s and Aunti’s. We have a Christmas party every year at my house. We cook a lot of food and a lot of relatives go to our house and eat together with us. We had a Singing battle and a dance battle and the winner got the best price. Did you know if you went to a filipino party there’s always karaoke because filipinos love singing so much there will be always drunk uncle’s every Christmas my uncle’s they gave us money when they were drunk so we always have extra money! . After Christmas me and my cousins and my siblings counted our money and saw who got the highest money earned on Christmas. The worst thing about that is your parents will take the money and say I can keep the money so it’s safe and you don’t lose it and you can save up! But when you ask them where the money is because you want them back they will say “ Did you know how much money i spent on you when you were a baby i took care of you i bought some milk.” And you don’t get the money back!
That's how I spend my Christmas every year! In the Philippines and also here in Canada.

It's that of the year, the one day that trees are cut down only to be decorated with decors. That's right, I'm talking about Christmas! Christmas is celebrated around the world and is a common favorite holiday for people, with grateful gifts and food spread for your family and friends. Often other families have different kinds of Christmas, or celebrate Hanukkah for the holidays. For mine, our family enjoys Christmas with parties with family and friends. Sadly, our Christmas parties were postponed due to covid and we didn't have much of a choice. But aside from that, we enjoy lots of different foods like BBQ which has a savory and sour taste to it, salads that have a mixture with a sweet like honey accompanied by veggies, creamy mashed potatoes that just melts in your mouth, and one weird stew with broccoli and pork in it. Once we are done eating, we unwrap our presents. And sometimes, we light up fireworks and enjoy them bursting out in beautiful colors in the night sky. Most of the time we spend at the party is karaoke, which I never do, and embarrassing ourselves by playing strange activities like musical chairs and all that. Sure, our way of Christmas seems weird to some of you, but that's how it is, some celebrate differently than others. All in all, we just have to remember, it's about spending time with others and having fun. And opening presents of course.

When you don't celebrate holidays in December, what do you do? Improvise. Although I didn't do anything interesting during December, let alone Christmas, (considering the fact that I don't celebrate it anymore), I was able to appreciate the smaller, and better things that make me glad I didn't have an ordinary school day. Waking up, I felt eager to start the day because the thought of addictive games on the internet would already get my brain going, though I wasn't surprised it was already dark out because getting up at 5pm was becoming quite normal. Apart from sleeping in, the view of the pillow-like textured snow clumps really comforted me. It reminded me of the time I received gifts on a white Christmas, but I'm glad I don't mind not celebrating Christmas. Yes, I did celebrate Christmas in the past, but no it's not that much different from when I don't celebrate Christmas. To me, Christmas was mainly about gift-receiving, and that's pretty much it. Overall, this December was alright, but I'm hoping I could do something more exciting for the next year.
