- Today, we learned about making inferences and how they can help us form a deeper understanding for what we read, watch, or listen to.
- Watch the video What is an Inference?
- Choose ONE of the following quotes...
When I woke up in the morning, the yard was filled with broken branches and leaves.
"Clean your room this instant or else!" Jesse's mom told her firmly and then slammed the door.
Yesterday, we cleaned out our desks and said goodbye to our teacher.
Forget-Me-Not - I left one flower on Grandma's coffin: a forget-me-not as if I could.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can make inferences when reading to deepen my understanding.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Write an inference (e.g. I think this is a minor hockey game because there is skating and a referee. If you watch a professional game it often takes several blows of a whistle before players stop.)
2.) Explain what text clues helped you form your inference.
3.) Explain your background knowledge that connects to your text clues.
4.) Write all of this as a paragraph using proper paragraph structure (intro, body, and conclusion).
5.) Check your work for the givens/conventions of writing (spelling, capitals, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.)
6.) Give one student who hasn't received any descriptive feedback one or two things to improve on based on the above criteria.
7.) Edit revise your original paragraph based on the peer-feedback.
8.) Check to make sure you posted your paragraph, posted your peer-feedback, and posted your revised version all on the same stream. Do not start a new stream. Just reply to your original paragraph. Keep your work organized!
