INQUIRY

10/25/2021

Today, we started to learn more about the inquiry process and how that will look this year. One key learning point today was on 'QUESTIONS'. We learned there are simple questions and deep thinking questions. Students looked at example questions and then worked on coming up with some inquiry questions that they might use for their mini-inquiry assignment. Students will work on their sub-questions for homework tonight if they did not finish them in class.

IMPORTANT:
1.) VOLLEYBALL: Return forms and be at the gym at 8am.
2.) GOAL-SETTING CONFERENCE: Remind parents to sign up for a conference time for next week (An e-mail was sent)

There are different types of inquiries out there, but what could the meaning be to one of them? I’ll be explaining what a INSTANT inquiry is. When it comes to inquiry, you ask questions and research about them to find the answer of it. There are as well as different levels towards it as well! All the way from 1-3. Let’s say number 1. You’re thinking of a question and you ask yourself these, who, when, and where. These are simple questions that can be easily answered, by using knowledge that you already know, or even searching the answers up! Like for an example, “what day is it today” that’s one of them. In level 2 questions, you ask more of a “WHY, or HOW?” These are still as well simple questions to be answered just by researching them, or using your knowledge as again. In level 2, you write more words than level 1, and here’s an example of level 2, WHY do natural disasters occur, and WHY does it happen from time to time”? But that’s still just one sentence ex. Level 3, what might level 3 be? In this level, you ask more of a question that requires you to do a brain storm, and even do your research to answer it! When asking these kinds of questions, you think and try to make predictions and even try to answer it yourself! For instance, you’re finished reading a novel, or any kind of movie or show. You might ask yourself, what happens next? Why does it end off like that? Isn’t there more too the story, perhaps something like that. But I doubt you can answer these straight up without knowing any information about it, so you can predict what happens in the next chapter or book, or even search the answers up yourself! There are many different inquiries out there, but this is also one of them.

For the first form it is very simple to answer and you only need to use a few words to write your inquiry. For example who was Abraham Lincoln? When was the great wall of china made or when was George Washington born? FEEDBACK: Find a better example for the 2nd stage question. "How old is Eminem" is still a 1st stage question as it can be easily solved by a quick search and requires only a few words for the answer.
FEEDBACK 2: Check for the givens. For example, "An example" should have a comma after example. "Those are the 3 stages of inquiry and..." should have a comma after inquiry. There are a couple more so read carefully.

What does inquiry mean? Inquiry is a process of answering a question. There are 4 stages of inquiry the first one is thinking of a question so you know what you are researching on. Secondly, investing that is were you get information about your topic. Next you have to organize your information so it is one idea. Inquiry. Have you ever heard of that word before? Well, inquiry means "to seek information by asking a question". In short, it means to ask a question (something you're wondering) and find the answer by researching. There are 3 stages of inquiry questions. The first stage, is an easy question. A question that can easily be answered by one search and in a few words. For example, "is chocolate made from cocoa?" That is an example of a 1st stage question. It can be easily answered with a yes/no and does not require any deeper thoughts or longer explanations. After that, is a 2nd stage question. A 2nd stage question is similar to a 1st stage question, but is a little deeper. For example, a 2nd stage question could be "what happened when the SARS outbreak began?" It's a bit more complex, however, can still be solved by a quick search. The final stage is the 3rd stage. The 3rd stage is generally where you want to be. These questions are deep thinking questions and normally need many sources to come up with the answer. An example of a 3rd stage question would be "Why do we get dreams/nightmares?" This question is quite complex and can not be solved by a quick search. From 3rd stage questions, you can sprout sub-questions, which can be 1st or 2nd stage questions. In conclusion, the three levels of inquiry questions are: 1, Quick simple questions, easy to solve by a quick search, 2, Slightly harder/more complex questions, but still easy to solve by a search, and 3, Deep thinking questions that require different sources to find a solution.

Level one is asking simple questions with answers that can be only with a few words, such as, yes/no questions, where, when , and who. Level two are questions let us thinking deeper or thinking of the answer ourselves or make connections. Level three questions that require multiple resources, maybe some drawings, and critical thinking. These are the things you need to know when you are doing inquiry.

Research, delving, exploration, investigation etc. These are the words which describe inquiry, by the way do you know what inquiry means? Inquiry means seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge for a big question. There're 3 stages of inquiry. Firstly, is a question that is easy to answer in a few or some words. For example, how are black holes formed? Secondly, You ask questions which are related to the questions which is called a sub questions for example, how many dead stars will it take to form a black hole? Thirdly, Your have to show you understanding by using diagrams, drawing, colour codes etc. Tip: you have to very organized when you do inquiry if you messed up once, you will be confused. These are the 3 stages you should and always will use while you're doing inquiry.

Learning about Inquiry is important and useful because inquiry is about finding information in an easy way. There are 3 levels of inquiry, Level 1 is asking simple questions that gives you 1-5 answers with a yes/no, Level 1 example: When did WW2 start? That question only gave me 1 answer which was 1939 but we are going to move to bigger interesting questions because we want to be more creative. Level 2 questions are more complex and interesting questions, but these questions still could easily be solved, and level 2 questions mostly start with the word “what” or “why”, Level 2 example: How can I become a scientist? That question gave me more than 1 answer which are studying hard, working at universities for a long period, becoming a math expert, and being a careful person that takes care of your surroundings. Now we are moving on to the biggest level 3 questions. Level 3 questions could have more than 15 answers or even 100. Most level 3 questions start with the word “what if” because this example of a level 3 question could give lots of answers: What if Mars had the same living conditions as Earth? There could be lots of things answered in this question, but I will only show you the answers that I want to show you: Humans would travel to Mars to prevent overpopulation, the first country would appear in Mars, Earth would decline population, less pollution would happen at Earth while people leave the planet, and many youtubers would create videos called: Is Mars a good place to live? Inquiry is about being creative, pushing your thinking deeper and making decisions. I think that Inquiry is fun because last year I completed successfully with no mistakes, and I was the first person that finished Inquiry. So, you definitely should learn about Inquiry. I read the success criteria.

Everyone inquires. You, me, everyone. We inquire every day. From small things like, "When will I fall asleep?" or "Who invented cars?" to "If space ends, where does it end, and what is at the end?" In fact, you could be inquiring right this moment. But, what kind of inquiry? There are three different types of inquiry. There's Level 1 inquiry, Level 2 inquiry, and level 3 inquiry. Level 1 inquiry is the simplest kind of inquiry. Usually, it's a short question that you could answer with just a few words. This kind of query could even be Yes/No questions, and they tend to start with who, what, where, and when. Level 1 inquiry questions aren't the best kind of inquiry questions to use when you're doing an inquiry project. The next type of inquiry questions to use are Level 2 inquiry questions. This kind of question is mostly easy to answer as well. It's not as simple as Level 1 questions, but you can still answer these inquiry questions with a few words or sentences. Level 2 inquiry questions typically start with how, what, or why. Asking Level 2 questions aren't generally the best variety of questions that we can ask, but it's still okay to use this sort of query. The last level of inquiry is Level 3. These inquiry questions require more deep-thinking and predictions. We need to use several resources. When we use Level 3 inquiry questions, we mainly use words like how, and what if. Level 3 questions require us to make predictions and judgements. Sometimes, Level 3 inquiries don't have a specific answer, and we have to use our background knowledge and judgement to claim a credible answer. In short, Level 1 inquiries contain simple questions, and short, easy-to-find answers, Level 2 inquiries are simple questions with short answers, but require more thinking, and Level 3 inquiries are deep-thinking questions with answers that require longer explanations and research. Those are the three levels of inquiry. Perhaps next time you find yourself inquiring, you can look back to this and think about what level of inquiry you are using.

This is the best kind of inquiry question that you can ask for a project. Those are the three levels of inquiry. Perhaps next time you find yourself inquiring, you can remember this and think about what level of inquiry you are using.

Inquiry is one of the most important thing for us humans to learn new things we question, and scientists themselves inquire to investigate new discoveries, like did you know this year, scientists have created a new genetic discovery, a monkey embryo created with human cells, and all of it started out as questions, which led to years of research and lots of hard work. And, to learn about inquiry, you'd need to learn about the levels of inquiry. Let's start with the first level, level one is like a really easy and small question you can easily search up and get the answer, for example, you could ask when was John Lennon born? Or how are guitars made? These kinds of questions are not something you would use for inquiry, since it's easy to do. Level 2 is a little more complex and better stage than level 1, level 2 questions could be like how is John Lennon such a great artist, and how is he different? These questions take a little more research to find the answer to, and a bit farther than a regular question. Level 3 is a complex stage used for those who had experience with inquiry, these questions could be difficult to answer, takes longer time to research and need sub-questions to slowly build up to the concluding answer. I highly prefer stage three to those who have background knowledge to inquiry, but for those who just started, try level 2 as a starting point to build up to level 3, and you too can discover and explore new things just like scientists themselves, looking for new pathways to space, nature, and biology.

The difference levels in inquiry questions

Now before you try to figure out the levels.You'll need to know about inquiry questions.So inquiry questions are basically a question that you're thinking of.A inquiry question can be solved by researching.For example your question might be how much does a eleghtent weight.Then from researching you'll know that the answer was 10 tons witch weights less than your mom(joke).

Now there's 3 levels of inquiry questions.

First: Level 1.This is like a plain question.This is A question like "who's Dez", or who's Candice.This level is not a good one to use because it doesn't really have a good big idea for sub questions.

Next:level 2.This is better than 1.2 is like for example what is your goal, or how can I become a police officer.This is good for a big idea question because you can get a lot of sub questions like when can the interview you.

Level 3. This is an question that can make you think alot.For example like "what if Jupiter collide with the sun?" Or "what if anime was real.This is great for a big idea because it would not take a short amount of time to finish(like math)even when you use sub questions.

This is basically what you need to know.

What is inquiry? Today, we learnt about the process inquiry, there are four parts of it. We also learnt about the different levels of questions. We were learning the immersing part of inquiry today, research starts with a purpose and a question. Questions can be separated into 3 levels, from simple to complicated ones. A level one question is are "shallow" questions that only takes one or a few minutes to answer. One example is "How old is Mr.Hong?" Like you can simply find the answer by searching using a browser. A level 1 question is often a yes/no question. Moving on, a level 2 question is less shallow and more complicated to answer, it's not a yes/no answer. For example, "Why do we get sick?" Lastly, there are level 3 questions, usually starting with what if or why. These questions require research and critical thinking. These questions can be such as, "What are the ways to stop climate change and which are the most efficient?" In conclusion, there are 3 levels of questions, level 1 which is simple, level 2 which is more complicated, and level 3, which are the most complicated and need research and critical thinking to solve.

Have you wondered what inquiry could possibly mean? It's pretty much another way to describe research but in a questioning way! Inquiry starts off with the big idea, the main Question for your research; then you follow it down to 3 small questions related to the big question. For example your main question could be "How are markers created?"
the first question related to it would be "How much ink is added to the marker until it is full?". The 2nd question would be "is there a certain size the marker has to be to know if its perfect?". The 3rd question is the final question and would be known as "Are markers hand made?". And if your main question is simple, it should at least take 10-20 minutes to finish he research! this is personally how I see inquiry.

You will likely have to make your own conclusions about things because sometimes there isn't a clear answer. So the next time you have an inquiry question, you should keep these three levels in mind.

@caroline - Once again Caroline, amazing work! I enjoyed reading it, and the way you wrote it made it quite obvious that you knew, and understood this topic.

Feedback: Some small problems I found was with your choice of words. I think you tend to use the same words quite a lot, such as this sentence: 'These types of questions shouldn't be used as inquiry questions because they are easy to find because you can just look them up.' In my opinion, maybe change the following sentence into this: 'This level shouldn't be used as an inquiry question, due to the straightforwardness of just looking up the answer. Next up...' I also noticed you used the word 'they' a lot. I recommend changing some of those words into 'it', or other words closely relating to 'they'. Other than that, excellent work Caroline! 👌

What is inquiry? Inquiry is like asking a question and answering the question. And topics. Example who is Caloy Yulo? What does he do? Inquiry like asking question then you will stay in on topic or one question. Then you will search the question then you will find out the answer to your questions. there are 3 levels of inquiry, Level 1 is asking who, Level 2 how, The last important level is 3 which is think deeper. You need to think deeply about your question and find the question will make it deeper! Then you will research the question and start looking for the sources. And put the sources together and you will find out the answer. Or you can also use sub-questions which is you can also find you answer to your questions! But in an easy way.

Today in inquiry we learned how to ask questions. During the lesson we learned that there are three levels of asking questions, level 1 questions and level 2 questions are not that powerful. Level 1 questions are yes or no questions, which and who. Level 2 questions are when, where and what. Level 3 questions are how, why and what if. If you ask a question in level 1 or level 2 then you won't do a lot of research for example, what is the time that cars are invented, you just need to search it up and copy the time. This Thursday we will do researches on our questions I really look forward to it.

What Jefferson is saying is that everyone has their own point of view in things, and that leads to inquiry, which then leads them to the answer. Inquiry is a very important part of school. Inquiry is when you have a question, then you want it to be answered, so you do research. There are three types of inquiry questions. Number one, the quick question. The quick question is like the questions that only takes a few minutes to research about. For example, the questions that is something like Is something something, or is it not something, those are yes or no questions. You could search it the first time and you wont have any other questions after you get the answer. The second type is a deep thinking question. You cannot research it in a minute, you at least need 5 minutes to research it and you will at least have 3 extra questions about that answer. For example, how does something work, or why is something something. This type of question is the level that is very good for you. The last level is the impossible. Well nothing is impossible but these questions are the ones you want to avoid, unless you really desperately want to answer them. And these impossible ones are the what if ones. The question what if is very big. There is infinite possibilities so I suggest people not doing them.
