Today, the students started the day off by learning some new words related to the current read aloud (Boundless). Later, they continued playing badminton in PE and learning about different integer addition strategies. After lunch, they learned French and sang 'Je Suis une pizza'. Students will continue learning french vocabulary, phrases, and culture until the end of the year. They will use what they learn to make their own pizzas.

Click here to access excellent 'INTEGER' resources/games to help your learning. Complete this if you have finished your homework.
You will mark/correct your homework in class tomorrow morning. You may do this at home as well.

2.) NOVEL APPROACH:

All materials must be at school tomorrow. (Picture books, stickies, and packages.)

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Write a story about your day using these 8 words, appropriately:
- Barrage
- Scaffolds
- Muskeg
- Benevolent
- Magnates
- Stewards
- Despicable
- Disconcerting
Make the story focused and clear. Make sure that it is not random. It should have a beginning, middle and end, just like your day.
The reader should be able to tell that you know the meaning of the words just from reading it.
Provide feedback to your peers (givens: punctuation, spelling, grammar, sentence structure, etc.), and make changes to your own story based on the feedback you recieve.

Today, I ended up very wet and not in a good mood. I mean, it started well, as I went on a train to Burnaby and the steward was benevolent. I saw some magnate people in their fancy clothes and their limos. At Burnaby I was standing on a scaffold and looking at a barrage, but it had a hole in it, so water leaked out and made a small muskeg. Suddenly, a despicable person pushed me into the muskeg and I got wet. He threatened me that if he sees me ever again, he's going to kidnap me. That made me very disconcerting. When I got out of the muskeg, I was in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

Thank you for the lovely story! It's a very creative way of using these words. I might recommend looking at some of the grammar. As an example, I might recommend saying "that was disconcerting," instead of "that made me very disconcerting."

Across the huge muskeg, there’s a gorgeous house with a long history before. The great owner of this house is the nicest person. He is rich that he literally donate a lot of money and did a bunch of benevolent for the poor little kids. Once, he got ten billion from lots of magnate people because the citizens appreciate how generous he is, all of them just gave a little money and gave it to him to thank him.

In his house, there’s a loyal steward keep on serving the great owner of the house. After the owner got such money. He is now the richest person in the city. His steward started to be jealous of what he got and the owner’s money. He look up the sky, a barrage, scaffolds is carrying a pretty heavy thing from the air. He suddenly have a thought of hanging the owner and kill it. The thought of the despicable steward is disconcerting. Fortunately, when he is planning it, his owner noticed that and prevent him from doing that. He got fired immediately and never came back.

Thank you for the story! You've made some good uses of these words. I might recommend looking at some of the words like 'benevolent,' and 'barrage.' The second sentence is a perfect way to use 'Benevolent.'

In a long time ago, there’s a gorgeous house, it has one hundred of the room and a big backyard, the owner of this house is a magnets person, but he is despicable, no one in the town want to build a house beside his house. When the man started to get odder, he got extremely sad and his emotion is unpredictable, but one day, he saw a benevolent girl with a beautiful face, this girl is no like other people in the town, she was not afraid of this old man, the girl started to plant flowers and trees around this old big house, the man got interesting in this girl. The days goes on and on, the trees and the flowers grow stronger and stronger, a place use to be a muskeg, now fills out with new life and nature. The girl build a house beside the old man house, she sing every morning, she make food for the old man lunch breakfast and dinner every day. After a few months, the old man finally come out of his old big fancy house, he smell at the flowers, he knock the girls house, the girl opened the door, and let the old man come in to her house, it’s not big but fill out of dogs and cats, the girl tell the man that she is the old man’s godmother, she want him to be better and be himself, these words make the old man very disconcerting, he yelled at the girl, but the magic happen, after the old man yelled some bad words, he got better and younger, and more self-regulate. Isn’t it weird? May be that’s what it looks like when he was a young man. Maybe he just sick. Maybe his just fall in love with his godmother!
Who knows.
The old man rebuild his house and live with his godmother in the house surrounding by the flowers and love!

When I woke up, my ears were filled with a barrage of orders from my parents to get up and get ready to go outside. After I got ready and changed my clothes, we watched the landlord adjust the scaffolds because the screws were loose. We were then driven to a park with many natural features. We watched frogs swim in the muskeg and took some nice pictures of the mosses. We then drove to an ice-cream shop and greeted the kind cashier with benevolent smiles. He told us about his shop and we were convinced that he was a magnate businessman. I also met a friendly steward who said that he worked here on his off days. Then, we passed by a gas station to refill the car's fuel and met a very despicable man who charged way more for the fuel. Even if that occurrence was disconcerting, we arrived home with smiles on our faces and tiredness in our eyes.

Time pass so fast, I can’t believe it’s already summer break! No one could tell how excited am I, because I’m going on a magnates summer camp today. It’s going to be a long period of time staying in the camp so we all start with introducing ourselves to one another. Luckily, their stewards put me in a group where everyone was looking pretty benevolent. To get started on our very first activity, we had to climb over little hills in order for us to get to the destination, sounds pretty despicable to us right? I’d say the course was rather complicated. I could still remember those inconceivable muskegs that could literally barrage anything we’re put in. To be honest, I was quite disconcerting at the moment. So the stewards decide to set the scaffolds for us to get through. It was already very late by the time we arrived at the destination, we’re told to stay rest at one of the log cabins for today. Overall it’s a great experience and I’m so excited about tomorrow’s arrange.

A long time ago there lived a magnate clown who did despicable things and was very disconcerting making everyone uncomfortable. When he walked into the streets everyone turned around making scared and uncomfortable faces. Following around him everywhere was his benevolent steward who made sure everything was perfect for the clown, despite the things he did to him and other people. The day before, the clown stole the last piece of food from a starving poor homeless child.

One day, the steward had enough, despite his very low status, he had a big heart. He was making money for his poor family living in a tiny home, made out of broken pieces of scaffolds. The clown only paid him the quarter of what he was supposed to get, sometimes he couldn’t even buy enough food for his family. He was always getting a barrage of orders that he couldn’t simply do. The Steward threatened to throw the clown and all his money into muskeg if he didn’t pay him his full salary and if the clown was ever horrible to anyone ever again. Dropping out of school, the clown didn’t know what muskeg was, he just thought the word sounded very frightening and decided to give in. The clown paid the steward full salary and was never horrible to anyone ever again. The end.

The Amtrak train to Seattle had just departed Everett station, and the landscape was a blur as the Acela Express accelerated around the bend. Suddenly, a barrage of rocks pelted down from the mountainside and struck the wooden scaffolding shielding the tracks. The scaffolding was destroyed, and the rocks bombarded the train, which was travelling at an unearthly 108 miles an hour. The wheels jounced as the rocks rolled under, and the train derailed. It began to tilt precariously off the precipice and threatened to fall into the gorge below. The suspense was causing me to feel very disconcerted. Then, the train tumbled down the steep crag and plummeted fifty feet into the filthy muskeg below. The train was smashed into smithereens and many passengers died immediately, but I was thrown up into the air and somersaulted around and around. Splash! I landed into the muskeg again, and I was covered in slime. I decided to climb up the rocky crag because that's what the few survivors were doing. I was about halfway when a despicable, inhuman person shoved me off the crag and I landed in the muskeg for the third time. Luckily, a benevolent steward had a phone that was still intact, and she offered to call the Search and Rescue service to save us. After I was rescued, news of the horrifying crash spread, and the magnate of Amtrak was sued by millions of citizens, including the NJ Transit CEO.

Thank you for the story, though its content was a little disconcerting...
You made good use of this weeks words (and then some!) and told a very clear story. I might recommend adding some transitions, and breaking this up into a couple of paragraphs.

Everett... Interesting name... Where have I heard that before..?

This was a great story, and I can see how you were able to use each word appropriately. Even then nothing is perfect so here is some feedback.

One thing that had me tilt my head somewhat is the first sentence. "The Amtrak train to Seattle had just departed Everett Station, and the landscape was a blur as the Acela Express accelerated around the bend. This seems to have two noticeable issues, the first one is "Had just departed Everett Station" I could never seem to understand this as there is no grammatical connection between departed and Everett station, so I think you should rephrase this. The second issue is that it is a run-on sentence, so you should find a way to close of the sentence with a period.

This was a very good story and I look forward to viewing this same high quality writing.

WAKE UP WAKE UP!!
It was 6:39 am when my little sister woke me up. What for? You might ask, well she woke me up and attacked me with a barrage of questions. I gave her a despicable look and told her to go away. She disconcertingly rolled into my bed and said NO! I couldn't sleep so I decided to get out of bed and get ready for school. Of course, my little sister was still bombarding me with questions. It was so early, I didn't understand half of the things she was saying. I'm pretty sure she was asking about how school works. It was her first day of kindergarten, so it's understandable. I helped her get ready and pack her bags. at 8:45 we left for school. On our walk there, we saw a knocked over garbage can. "Are you a good steward to the earth?" I asked my sister. Not knowing what "steward" meant, she shook her head with confidence. "let's pick up the trash then," I say. She didn't look too excited but she did it anyway. When we got to school, I met up with my friends while my sister was still trailing behind me. "Go away" I whisper into her ear, but nope, she just hung onto my arm. Sigh* I couldn't take this anymore so I took her to her class. Supposedly the new kindergarten teacher was a magnate. I quickly paced down the hallway toward the classroom. Panting, we finally made it to the kindergarten classroom. I then plopped down my sister in her seat and quickly ran to my classroom. Oh no, I'm going to be late on my first day of school. Avoiding eye contact with the teacher I quickly dashed to my seat. "you're late" Mr.Woods says. I explained my situation with my sister and luckily, Mr.Woods was benevolent and forgave me. “Flip to page 83 in your science textbooks, we will be studying ecosystems today”. We learned about muskegs. Seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours, hours felt like days. RING RING! The lunch bell! I went to go sit on the bench to eat my lunch. In the distance, I saw construction workers sitting on scaffolds. The rest of the day was a big blur, it seems like my sister had a great day at school. I slowly lay down in my bed and fell asleep.

My day started out as usual, I woke up, cleaned myself, ate breakfast, and got ready for school. We left the house around ten minutes after I had gotten prepared, and we started to drive. As we went along I viewed the scaffolding of buildings that were being made, and I saw how large they were and pondered as to how long it might take to produce such a large structure. As we passed the large mansions covered in clean plots of fine grass, I wished we were magnates so we could have a more luxurious life. Then we arrived at school. My mother had given me a kind and motivating goodbye making her all the more benevolent. During class the teachers had barraged me with different questions bringing a disconcerting feeling towards my mind. I decided to walk home through a different route which did not end positively. I was forced to walk through a smell reminding me of the muskegs in America, and I saw very despicable people committing what seems to be crimes. Once I had left the surrounding area, i was greeted to a place where everyone was acting as a good steward towards one another, which had cleared my mind from the wretched place I had been previously walking through. Soon after, I arrived home, did some work, ate some lasagna, and went to sleep.

@ Unaid - Good job! I liked how detailed your writing is and how clever you have used your words. Though, there can be a few improvements to be made. One of which is run-on sentences and misuse of commas. For example, the first sentence should end after “usual”. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading your post!

Today, was not just a bad day, it was a really bad day. That is because when I climbed aboard a luxury train with my parents hoping to have a good time because they haven't had a day off for a long time, so when our benevolent steward came to explain why the train had stopped, she told us there is an animal on the track. But just then one of the magnates turns out to be despicable and pulls out a pistol and begins to call the people to calm down and be quiet or else they are in the next funeral casket, then some other magnates attempt to escape by jumping into the muskeg, but the had all been shot, then after a while and all I could see was the guy with the gun on the scaffold near the muskeg getting into a boat. And as soon and he left I ran towards a barrage I saw in the distance to find help.

January 3rd, 1988
The Ognimalf express train was to leave soon, and people were flowing into the train. Many magnates were also aboard the train, as it was the first train that would be crossing the Eltrut dam and accros the Specific Ocean. This to-be journey has caused many barrages of questions.

4 Hours after the train started
As the steward guided the train through the track, they passed the Biddenfor forest. As they passed, many people claimed they saw a black figure through their windows, then it was gone. Passengers suspected it was *The* Witch, though other people - being benevolent people - kindly disagreed and thought it was probably just a bear. Once in a while, a scaffold would quickly pass by the train, making all the passengers think it was the Witch's huts. Suddenly, the train stopped, in the middle of the forest. People started panicking, SURE it was the witch, but then over the PA..."Ladies and gentlemen, don't worry, a black feather has seem to hit our windshield. We are slowly repairing the damage the feather has done at such high speeds."

Good PAR Nick, but there are some places that could use improvement like the part were you explained what the time was "4 Hours after the train started" just add an extra line below it, but overall good job!

“So, what do you want to do for this weekend? Do you want to go to the amusement park? Shopping? Or stay home to play games, “ my father asks. He always throws a barrage of questions at me, so much that it is imperceptible to me. I trundled around, purposely making my footsteps very audible. I decided at last to go hiking. My father thought it was a good idea to exercise, so we planned on going tomorrow. My mother had a disconcerting face. She grimaced to make my dad promise to my mother that he’ll be a good steward for me and take care of me well.

The next morning, we packed our bags and took a taxi. The driver had a pretty benevolent attitude and helped us convey our bags. It took about half an hour to get there. When we arrived, I made sure I had taken everything with me and had not left anything behind (not that I think the driver will be despicable and filch my things). It’s just something my mother always tells me to do.

The hike itself was pretty tiring, though there were some very beautiful, gorgeous landscape up there. We had a vantage of the mountains, the river, and different flowers/plants. Halfway through the hike, I realized that I forgot our water bottles. Fortunately, we passed by a friendly woman who gave us spare water he brought. He looked like a magnate because he carried opulent jewellery. As we got higher, I started to feel uncomfortable. I looked down to see how high I am, like looking down from a scaffold. I felt very dizzy and asked my dad if we could go back now. He agreed and we went back home. My mother really wasn’t happy to see that I caught a cold after this. I guess my dad won’t be taking me for a trip anytime soon! (Sorry that this isn’t the greatest story because I didn’t have much time to write my PAR.)

Haven't you ever once thought that you had the most peculiar day of your life? Well, your day can only be peculiar if this happens in it:

After a long season of spring rain, it's finally summer and you wake up... to your sister's face staring into yours. It's quite disconcerting because you least expect it and also very annoying. Once you finally get her out of the way and eat your breakfast, she asks you a barrage of questions, none of which you really answer. Fortunately, it is very sunny outside so we both go out so I can distract my sister. My mom tells me to be a good steward and not to lose my sister anywhere. As we walk along, I can see different types of scaffolding on the roofs but I'm not looking where I'm going and bump into a magnate. My sister looks at me like I'm a despicable person but the magnate is benevolent and ignores the fact that I walked into him. He tells us a story about being in a disgusting muskeg and as he is talking, the two of us inch away slowly. Once we get home, the day becomes normal again and everything is the same as before... or is it?

“Ahh, what a beautiful day!” The benevolent man says to his wonderful wife. “Isn’t ever such a beautiful day! So glad we moved here sweetie.” As they continue to sit in their front law, a magnate man walks up to them. “YOU GUYS WANT SOME CHICKEN?” The man yells. The man and his wife feel disconcerting with this man in front of them. “No thank you, but thanks for the offer!” The man says. “You’ll regret this! I bet you will!” The man walks away hold a drumstick in each hand. “I’m kind of worried right now honey.” The wife says holding back tears. “Don’t worry! Nothing bad is going to happen. He’s probably just playing a joke.” The man says in a confident voice. All of a sudden their house open up to expose a barrage! “Where did that come from?” The man yells. All of a sudden the despicable man comes back. “I told you. They always think I’m wrong!” The man yells at them. “Jeffery what are we going to do!” Jeffery thinks fast. “Take this!” Jeffery throws a muskeg at the despicable man! “OWW!” The man leans down in pain. “We need a plan honey.” The man whispers. “Jeffery, take him to the scaffolds, we can get him there.” Okay let’s go!

In the end they take him their and they’re never bothered again. :D

Once upon a time there lived a hideous monster that resides in the murky muskeg.
This monster’s name is Shrek. Shrek was benevolent, but no one knew that for they never wanted to get to know him judging by his horrid looks.

One day, he decided enough was enough. He waltzed into town as people gathered to point and whisper at him. Shrek hopped onto the scaffold. Throughout the crowd rose a cheer. Shrek glared at the crowd and yelled, “You people are despicable! You have no right to be doing this to anyone! Just because I look scary, doesn’t mean I am. But you fools never understood that, did ya!?” A magnate looked at his polished black shoes and mumbled an apology. Soon apologies were murmured throughout the crowd.

“Well, this is disconcerting!” An angry voice shouted. “Who is that ogre to boss us around, eh? I am disappointed in you, where’s your back yeh push-overs!” The crowd looked aghast to see this man, for he was dead! As far as the rumours went, he was supposedly the best steward to ever live. Soon he became a multi-millionaire from his job, incredible tips and all the glory. But then he got assassinated by the government. Which refused to “such unprofessional matters.” Shrek look at the man straight in the eye, the rich steward yelped and froze. Shrek let out an enormous bellow and the man ran out of town to “get backup”. Shrek sighed as the crowd of villagers stared at him in a mix of wonder, confusion, and fright. “WELCOME TO WORD WORK TOWN!” The crowd cheered as Shrek got up to leave. He paused, and glanced back at the crowd. “Really? You sure?” The crowd smiled at him as he turned fully around and went back into town.

"Beep! Beep!", I woke to the horrid sound of my alarm. It was a wonderful Saturday but was quickly ruined by my despicable mom (For the purpose of this story I said this) who gave me lots of things to do. Since I was a benevolent child, I did the work willingly. Then, I went outside to ride my bike or just generally get exercise. When I got home, my mom gave me a barrage of questions concerning where I went and what I was doing. I just told her I went biking since that's what I did. Furthermore, I had nothing to do at home, therefore, I went outside again. After a few minutes, I stumbled across a plastic bottle left on the ground. Since I wanted to be a good steward to Earth, I picked it up and threw it into the trash. When I got back home I started to eat dinner. Moreover, I collapsed onto the couch and started watching TV. I wondered if everyone on TV was considered a "magnate". When I switched channels something caught my eye. It was the landscape of a country. I have never seen it before but I thought it was a "muskeg". Then it started to show pictures of people sitting on scaffolds. The people looked very disconcerting, but before I could make out what it was my mom told me to go to sleep. Although I was very reluctant, I still did what I was told.

I am not in a great mood and a little frightened. Well it started on a train, I was going to visit my aunt and her family in Calgary. In the train, stewards were chatting away and not looking after the passengers. There were some benevolent people and some despicable people on the train. We went through a barrage, when things were become weird. The train had scaffolds. A despicable man came to me and made me feel disconcerting. He said “I would push you into the muskeg” but a magnate man stopped the rude man for saying mean things to me.

Wom!!! A barrage of snow has cover me and my camp and I woke up in a scaffold. A benevilent person came over to me and give me food and water he told me I am in a magic land in a base that a lot of magnates are gathering around and celebrating. He tikd me to go to the north and keep going and I will see a muskeg. And I do so. After I went to the muskeg I went back to the normal world. I ran as fast as I can to the nearby village and I asked a steward for some food because I am starving to death. I have a disconcerting feeling about this. After I eat this food I feel despicable. The other people are laughing at me because I just realized that the food is poisoned. I woke up and realized that was just a dream.
