Leading Lines

Today, we started the day with a lesson on digital photography composition techniques. Students learned about positioning their device using the lens of their camera to create perspective with leading lines. I modelled this to them in class, we looked at lots of examples, and the students had some time to practice indoors and outdoors. Parents, take a look on Teams if you want to see your child's work. In math, we learned about transformations and in the afternoon, we started our chemistry unit and ended the day with Music.

IMPORTANT:
1.) MATH TESTS: All evaluations have been posted to FreshGrade. Tests will be distributed tomorrow in class.

LEARNING/PLANNER:
1.) READING: 30 minutes. At the end of the month you will be writing a powerful response for the book you have been reading on your own time. (short paragraph)

I am currently grade 7 now and I am almost moving to high school in 4 months. I have 3 things that can help me when I am in high school.

the first thing that can help me is by reviewing my c-charts by taking the time machine back to grade 7 and write all c-chart criteria.

the second thing that helps me in high school is to take ownership (part of the big six learning principles which help you learn independently). I am able to take ownership as I was able to do all gift of words in the weekends on my own.

Another way that could help you improve is to simply bring old lessons from last year and review them so that you could remember lessons such as negative and positive integers but if you do it in high school it would be a little harder. You could still see how you done it by step.

These are all the 3 things that could help me prepare for high school and I will promise to use these 3 strategies.

What is one thing that takes up have of your day, every day, for 9 months of the year? If you guessed school, you're correct. In only four months, the entirety of Mr. Hong's class of 2022 will be moving on to high school. That means that we should be prepared and ready for this transition. Three things that can help me during this transition are accountability, being ready for all tests and exams, and listening to instructions. We'll begin with accountability. Throughout my years in elementary school, teachers have reminded us that in high school, you won't get as many extensions, or reminders to do your work. If you do not complete it on time, then too bad; you're mark will decline. This is why I must be accountable for all my work, so I may finish it on time. Though being accountable for you work can mean you are prepared, you should still spend time preparing and studying for tests. Before each test, even a quiz, I should study and be prepared so I can get a good score. Studying can also help me engrain the work into my brain, so I can get a better understanding of it. But, if you really think about it, you can't do any of this if you don't listen to the teacher. You should always have your ears focused on the teacher, so you may hear their instructions, tips, what's being assigned, when a test is and what it will be on... you get it. Personally, I zone out a lot of the time when I am doing my work, and forget to also listen to the teacher. So, this is especially important to me, because if I can do my work and listen carefully at the same time, I will be making an improvement. Naturally, there are many more things that I can do to be successful in high school, but these are simply the three main ones that I feel are most important.

What is one thing that takes up half of your day, five days a week, for nine months of the year? If you guessed school, you're correct. In only four months, the entirety of Mr. Hong's class of 2022 will be moving on to high school. That means that we should be prepared and ready for this transition. Three things that can help me during this transition are accountability, being prepared for my tests, and listening to instructions. First off, I need to focus on my accountability. In high school, we won't get as many extensions, or reminders to do our work. If I do not complete it on time, then too bad; I won’t get as good a mark. Accountability is a huge part of school, and life in general. Though being accountable for your work can mean I am prepared, I should still spend time preparing and studying for tests. Before each test, even a small quiz, I should study and be prepared so I can get a good score. Studying can also engrain the work into my brain, so I can get a better understanding of it. Even so, I can't do any of this if I don't listen to the teacher. High school. It's a frequently thought and talked about topic by seventh graders with questions such as "Am I ready?" and "How will I do?" popping up often. I get it, graduating to a brand new school can seem daunting for some people, but personally, I think I'm pretty prepared for this next "stage". However, there are still things I can do that will boost my readiness even further. First and foremost, remembering to take ownership of my learning will be essential in order for me to be successful come September. I think I am almost ready for high school. Three things that I can do to help can be getting all my homework and bringing it back to my house. I will remind my self and pay attention to what has to be finished.

“Bro you ready for high school?”

I’m excited too. Most of us are. You might be a bit nervous, but you will get used to it fast and adapt to the new school and their new routines. I think I am almost ready for high school. Three things that I can do to make sure I am successful in high school is to finish my work, not call out during lessons and follow instructions.

Firstly, I am going to be accountable and get all my work done. And to do that I need to bring all my homework home. I will use an agenda and pay attention to what must be finished.

Secondly, I need to self-regulate in class and try not to call out when the teacher is talking and raise my hand before speaking. To do this I can imagine being a teacher. Would I want students to continuedly interrupt me and the class? NO! Of course not, so I should not interrupt either.

Lastly, I need to follow instructions and listen to the teacher when he or she is giving a lesson or giving instructions. I will work hard monitor my comprehension, but If I miss something I will make sure I use questioning, which is one of the BIG 6 Principles of learning, to find out what I missed.

These are the three things that will help me a lot in high school as I strive to reach ownership!

This is Division 1's last year in elementary school before we go to high school. I am personally very excited for it, because I get to meet new people, and it is such a change from elementary school, since there are different classes for each subject. Although I think I am pretty ready for high school, there are still some things I could do that would benefit me. Firstly, it would help for me not procrastinate as much and just get my work done. Sometimes when I don't want to do something, I procrastinate and scroll on my phone on social media, wasting time that I could have used doing work. Secondly, I can ask questions to my teachers if something is unclear. The problem for me is that it's hard for me to ask if I'm at home and it seems like a small question, because it sometimes seems like too much of a hassle. I know that I should ask anyway (which I have been improving on), because it won't benefit me in any way in not asking. Lastly, something that will help me with high school is having better study habits. When I study, it's sometimes easy for me to get stressed because I'm worried I'm not absorbing the information for the test, and sometimes I will get distracted. A strategy that I can use (for math for example) is doing practice questions and reading them over to ensure that I really understand them. In four months, the Grade Sevens of Laurier will be moving on to their next phase of learning - high school. For the past several years in elementary, teachers have been busy preparing students to their transition into secondary school and have emphasized how important it was to students to learn to be owners of their learning by the time they reach Grade Eight. More importantly, they have been discussing with us students what we can do to become ready for high school. To start off, actively listening is something that will help me succeed in school. Because the teacher to student ratio is much smaller, it is up to me to be able to understand concepts that teachers only say once; nobody is going to constantly tutor me if I don’t remember what the teacher taught us; with twelve subjects to juggle, actively listening in every class may be hard, but with practice I will definitely improve in my listening skills. In addition, note-taking will be very helpful in high-school lessons. Because there will be so much content to learning, taking concise but legible notes in a notebook and reviewing them to monitor comprehension are some strategies to keep up with school academically. Finally, being organized will help be greatly in secondary school. Because there will be so many textbooks and handouts, it may be hard to find materials when everything is in a messy pile. 7th grade have been wild for all of us. Today we are getting more closer to high school. I feel like there are gonna be harder thing to worry about in high school like reading. These are 3 things I should improve on in reading. First is that I should try to breath more, or instead of breathing when I say a word breath when I say a few sentences. Second is to review the reading strategies to help me one day. And finally is to try not to be nervous when I am reading in front of people. This may be the thoughts of many people as they prepare for high school, including me. Now, although high school seems hard, we have all been taught very important things in elementary school that will guide us through high school. In four months, all the grade 7s will move on from elementary school and into the next chapter of their lives. Teachers have been endlessly leading us up to this point, and by now, our brains are full of this learning. However, there are a few main points that will personally help me with high school. To start, I have learned to manage my time differently. By managing and using my free time wisely, I have come to understand how crucial it is to have this skill for high school. This will come in handy as there will be much more classes and homework, meaning time management will be very important. Additionally, I'll have to complete my assignments on time. I've learned that due dates are critical in high school, and it will be very rare for teachers to give out extensions. This is why I will have to complete all my work on time, as I have learned in elementary school. Although it may seem like a lot, there's always a reason for the homework, and it will definitely help me in the future. Lastly, I will need to be motivated and have commitment. I know that I will need to be motivated to work hard and learn, whether or not I like the subject or not, so it's key to have self-motivation. I'll have to overcome these challenges in high school in order to learn the most from it. On top of that, I've learned that it is also paramount to have commitment, as in order to complete tasks and finish my work, I'll have to do my best, and it will pay off at the end. So, this is why I will have to complete all my work on time, as I have learned in elementary school. Even though it may seem like a lot of work, there's always a reason for it, and it will definitely help me in the future. Lastly, I will need to be motivated and have commitment throughout all my classes. I know that I will need to be motivated to work hard and learn, whether or not I like the subject or not, so it is key to have self-motivation. In addition, I'll have to overcome these challenges in high school in order to learn the most from it. On top of that, I've learned that it is also paramount to have commitment, as in order to complete tasks and finish my work, I'll have to do my best, and it will pay off in the end. Ultimately, there are many things I'll have to keep in mind while transitioning into high school, however there are multiple positive aspects of it that I am really looking forward to.

Elementary school is finally coming to a end once I for all, hooray! So, let’s all make the lasting two months the best! I’m very well prepared for high school, and especially looking forward to the clubs, and the events that’ll be held. A few things that a couple of things that I could do in high school are..

First of all, I can be more open to my peers, and going to class on time. Since I understand in high school, it’ll for sure be much tougher than elementary, and will feel like a lasting eternity, I’ll have to try and enjoy it.

Secondly, I can improve on mathematics, staying more organized, and paying respect to others.

Lastly, understand my limits, and try my best to go as far as I can go. Since surely, if you don’t try your best, you won’t be able to achieve what you mostly desire to.

- Make sure to capitalize what you need to. For example, when you stated what three things you would work on you didn’t capitalize it neither did you add punctuation.
- Another piece of feedback is making sure you add some support to your sentences. An example for this could be when you said “bring my work home so I can work on it” I think that you could improve your sentence by saying “I could bring my work home so I can work on it to get it done on time. But, high school isn’t that bad, from what I’ve asked my older friends and mom about it, it isn’t as bad as what you see in the movies like those horrendous musicals. In a few months, Div. 1 will be transitioning from elementary school to high school. It seems like a huge jump, and might be terrifying to think of, but it won’t be if we are properly prepared. So, what are some things I can do to prepare myself for high school? Firstly, I think I can improve my time management skills. While I can properly finish homework, I tend to stay up doing it, rather than managing my time properly. I think this will be a good attribute to take to high school, as you are assigned much more homework. Secondly, I can double check to make sure I am bringing all my homework both home and to school. I think that my high school teachers will not be as lenient about handing in homework late or forgetting it at home. Therefore, it is important for me to start getting into the habit of double checking. Finally, I think I should try to prevent myself from zoning out during lessons. What is after elementary school? Yep, it is High School! Everyone is excited for high school, it is one of the most memorable moments of your teenage years. Adaptation, your behaviour, and Academic are the most important things in high school.

To get ready for high school, I would improve on self regulating because I don't really enjoy getting detention. I would have to focus on task, and preform active listening.

Secondly, I would also talk nicely to people older than me to hope that I won't get shoved into a locker or get beaten up. For example, I somebody insults me I won’t talk back, because most of the people in high school are older than me and bigger than me my a lot.

Lastly, I should also improve on reading, and writing. Such as, I can improve my essay structure, use reading strategies more frequently and log my reading, also I must complete my planner everyday to gain ownership in career ED.

To sum it up, high school might be a new environment to all of us, but I am sure we could all adapt to it quickly.

To be honest, Im not very enthusiastic for high school, it seems quite boring honestly. But since I am going there I might as well get ready for it.

Firstly, high schools has large expectations and standards, like preparing for the future and jobs. I, myself, cannot handle that pressure and would be overwhelmed at the first week of high school. And don’t lie to me, you would to. And to avoid that sad fact, I could be more organized and clean than I am now, it could really help me get through high school, refresh my brain, and focus.

Secondly, I am very exited for meeting so many new people, and potentially make friends. Is what I would say if I was a idiot. And surprisingly, I am! Getting used to crowds and tight spaces in the halls is great, unless if you loose something. Then again, I am up for it! I’m ready to see and meet new people!

Being prepared for high school can help, I’m sure of it, that is why I’m writing this. High school can be a roller coaster of emotions, I will guarantee that you will experience awful things, and you will experience amazing and fun things. In conclusion, it’s a pretty balanced path to take, we’ll at least that’s my view of it.

Feedback - I don't know if you just wrote it in an essay format to help show your 3 points better, and if you did, it definitely helped, but if you just wrote it in the form of an essay because you want it to be an essay, maybe focus more on paragraph structure next time. Other than that, I found no major problems with it, and I love how it wasn't this over - the - top - formal-like "essay"

This division one’s last year of elementary school, next year, learning will become a lot more challenging. There are a few things that can help me get ready for high school. I would like to improve my self-regulation, I would get in trouble a lot less if I practice it for the last 2 months of the school year. I can also take ownership of my learning, I can try to finish my assignments on time and focus on my learning, reflecting and self assess my work. Grade 7 is a year to get ready for high school. The teachers will teach us many things for us to get ready. There are a few things that I can improve before going to high school.
First, is the big 6 principles. Ownership is one of the most important one. I need to take ownership for myself. And that includes finishing my work on time. Self-assessment, peer-assessment, and revised and also very important. Self-assessment and peer-assessment are very important because those are feedback to help me improve. Learning intention and success criteria are very important for me to improve. Success criteria is a criteria that tells me what I need to do to reach extending. Last is questions. Asking question can teach me more things that I didn’t know before.
Second, is the self-regulation strategy. The self-regulation strategies can help me when I am in the red zone, green zone, yellow zone, blue zone.
Last is novel approach reading strategies. The strategies help me find the big idea and is helpful when I go to high school. And I need the big idea when I write my powerful response.
Those are three things I can improve on beforeI go to high school.

Grade by grade I slowly work through each year and finally got to the end of elementary school. I’m no longer a small kid, I am soon a high school student! I’m going to Boston College High School, the school is a privet school so I will ave to adapt or be ready for wearing uniforms everyday, joining clubs and a more strict leaning environment.

Well, have you been forced to wear a uniform everyday? It might sound easy but I can tell you it’s not. I have gone to Chinese private school and it is very easy to lost or can’t find your clothes. To prevent this I will need to keep my room clean and leave my uniform in a certain area everyday.

Joining clubs might be a hard thing for me. I have no experience on joining clubs and I have no friends in Boston. I will have to make new friends in a different new country that I have never been to, this sounds very hard to me. This will not work me, I had already made new friend here so I think that I will eventually make friends there. After having friends joining clubs will be way easier because I know that there is someone that I can play with.

Last but not least I need to adapt the new environment. This will be hard but not scary for me. I will adapt very fast as long as I don’t feel stress. I will need to stay positive in order to to get used to the private schools.

Looking back the uniforms, clubs and environment I feel like it’s not that hard. I feel ready, I am more than happy to enter high school!

In a few months, divisions one and two will be graduating, and I think there are a few things I'd like to work on before I move onto my next school life. First things first, self regulation. I think I don't have a huge problem with this, though I should still try to control myself when things get a little too exciting. In addition to that, I should also limit my conversations with people, because it's getting out of hand and it might distract other students. Something else I really need to work on is with my assignments. Maybe not entirely with the quality of it but with handing them on time, because I know for a fact that if I don't stop my procrastinations sooner or later, stress is going to pile up so high I won't even be able to find the end of it anymore. This is something I have to be able to overcome, because it will, and is affecting my grades which is something I really don't want. In conclusion, as exciting as it is to be starting highschool, I should really focus on these two goals for now, just to prepare myself a bit for the real world.
