The Inquiry Process

Today, students continued learning more about computer programming using blocks of code. They drew the connection of programming to learning intentions and success criteria in the learning process. They explained how learning intentions were like the goals of specific programming activities (For example: Frozen, Star Wars, etc). The blocks of code that the students use to instruct the program are like instructions or criteria for the students to complete a given task. They concluded that learning about computer programming is all about learning intentions, criteria, self-assessment, and responding to feedback.

1.) MATH: Make sure you correct your questions from yesterday using the answers in the back of the textbook.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

In paragraph form (intro, supporting sentences, concluding sentence), describe two different forms of technology that have improved your life in some way, shape, or form.
Do your best to include your own definition of what a 'FUNCTION' is. Watch this video to find out what code.org defines it as. Include this as one of your supporting sentences.
Describe how you think the computer program inside the technology works. For example, list some blocks of code you think would go into the actual program. For example, what steps would be involved for a microwave to heat something up?
Ask one student a question about their post.
Edit/revise your post for the givens (spelling, capitals, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.) THIS REQUIRES YOU TO SELF-ASSESS YOUR WORK AND REPLY TO YOUR ORIGINAL POST!

Function, Hmm that's a fun word to say. Function, Function, Function, Function and Function. So what is a function? Well a function is basically a set of steps it takes to do something. Kinda like a instruction sheet you get when you open a LEGO set. 2 forms of technology that improved my life are phones and computers. Some blocks of code I think a phone would have might be something like [When touched] [Turn on phone] [If touching app] [Open app]. Blocks of code for a computer would most likely be more complicated. It might look something like this
[When power button is pressed turn on PC]
[When W pressed display letter] Honestly I have no clue I am just guessing what I think what they might look like.
If you actually know what the blocks of code for a computer might look like feel free to tell me!

For me, a function is how you control things. For example, your function might be “move left” and when you press run, it controls how the object moves.

Technology, technology, and MORE TECHNOLOGY! It takes so much of our time and life now! But of course, it always has a reason. Technology has helped us so many things as soon as it came out. For example, you are probably on a computer of a mobile device to do your PAR. And now, how do you get to school? Some of you may walk. But for me, I have to be driven to school. I live very far awayyy~ Although technology is proved by millions that it could help us with life, it’s better to experience everything yourself!

I think the steps for a rice cooker (I looked up and saw one so :p) to be cooking is...
1. Set the time so you won’t over cook it.
2. Heat the pot up
3. To be able to open the cooker after because you don’t want your rice to be trapped inside (I know this isn’t exactly “technology” but I wanted to make it longer.)

Sorry if the last part wasn’t detailed. I really didn’t know what to do and I’m in a rush. Bye! :3

Technology. Well first of all, what is technology? Technology is a device or any type of electronic uses electricity. When is technology useful? Technology is really useful and fun to use. You can play games with it, do homework and much more other things with it. Here are 2 times when technology is helps me out and makes me happy. My computer/device helps me with any research, typing and lots more other things to do. Also, technology is also very fun and makes me happy, (Don't judge) I always Skype my grandparents because I love them. I always try to stay in touch with them. They are the best people on earth.
Function (Don't judge again if in wrong. This is just my definition of function): Function to me is like what we did I class. We gave the robot functions which tells them what to do to achieve our goal. Move right, left, down, up etc.
I think the computer is also a function. For example, some of the functions might be, when press up arrow key move up. And so on...

I think what function mean is to work step by step ,it is like when you doing something ,you have to work on it one by one but not not following steps.

And I think cooking and oven can actually use to make examples

Cooking
Step 1 :take out frying pan
Step 2:turn on the fire
Step 3:put the oil
Step 4:put the food that you have to cook
Step 5:off the fire when it is done

Step 1:put the food that you have to bake
Step 2:set the timer
Step 3:turn on the oven
Step 4:when the timer ended then take it out

Actually this two are also can make example of function because they are doing in step by step.In our daily life there are a lot of things that have to do step by step and it also help us a lot

I think a function is how something works, or how you can control how it works. I love to bake, so I guess since that involves many machines, I’ll use examples form there.

First, I often use ovens, to bake cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and other sweet treats of the sort. An oven can have its temperature altered very easily. You can also set timers for the amount of time you want to bake something. I have absolutely no idea what happens inside an oven for all the heating, timing, and sometimes cooking to happen.

Second, I like to skate, so I’ll talk about a zamboni. These are used to clear the ice after many skaters skate on it. I know how zambonis work, only because I used to skate almost every day, and I once talked to a zamboni driver. Basically, the zamboni lays a thin sheet of water onto the ice, and after about ten minutes, all the water freezes, and the ice is relatively smooth once again.

Computers, computers computers. The thing your mom tells you to not go on. However, it turns that technology may have indeed improved your life. In this paragraph, i will be maintaining some ways that technology has improved my life. Lets start of with emotion. If you're feeling sad or depressed, entertainment on computers can actually reduce depression and help stress. To name a few: Video games and videos.

Now, I'll be talking about another form of technology, the oven. Now ovens may be strange to talk about, but it is really usefull. Instead of making a pure fire for cooking food, you can simply put your food into a oven and walla! it'll be cooked.

In conclusion, technology has come an far way and has an large impact on our lives.

I think function means to make something like a machine work, as in functioning something that has to do with technology.

Technology is one thing most people use in their everyday life, but do you know how it works? Here are 2 examples of things that are helpful to us on almost a daily basis (I'm not so sure I'm just guessing.):
An alarm
1.) It's programmed to move the minute stick (idk what it's called) or on a digital clock to change the time
2.) To show what time it is
3.) Also be programmed when it's suppose to ring or make that alarm sound (idk)

Devices (Phones)
1.) To turn on, off, shut down, reset
2.) Show time, date, percentage, etc.
3.) Download apps, go on apps, call, text
4.) Take pictures
5.) React to touch, like touch ID or for the Iphone X, face recognition. (fact: I saw a video and these twins have an IPhone X and they both could unlock the same phone.)
Erm, I don't really know what else phones can do so that's about it I guess.

There's a lot of technology to be impacted by in BC. The technology I'm most thankful for though, are computers and the oven. I'm thankful for the computer, because it has the internet, which I can ask questions, and therefore avoid my fellow humans (nah, I'm not THAT antisocial). I'm thankful for the oven because it helps cook food. I'm sure it's much easier to use an oven to cook food compared to starting a fire and trying to use that. I'm also thankful for lights, although I realize in a world before the creation of lightbulbs and whatnot, I wouldn't care because I wouldn't know what I would be caring about. I realize such is true for pretty much every other piece of technology. (Wow deep...)

I heard somewhere that computers aren’t actually very smart, they’re just able to read commands super fast. If the code of a computer was in blocks such as the ones at code.org, I would imagine they would say things like: [If delete key pressed] with an option for [delete last character] that a computer coder would drag underneath. Of course the word ‘delete’ is probably unknown to computer, so they would’ve had to teach the computer what ‘delete’ means (something I learned from scratch).

As for the microwave, code blocks might look something like this:
[When start button pressed]
[Set inside temperature to 3 degrees for specified time]
[If door open]
[Beep]
Of course, once again it would be far more complicated than that, but my knowledge of computers and microwaves is very slim.

I'm going to have to include some sort of conclusion in my edit. I currently have no ideas...

Technology is a big part in everyone's life. Like for example, computers and iphones. They help us out in our daily life. And allows us to do the P.A.R. Some of the code blocks used in a phone could be when the home button is pressed it opens to the home screen. Or each letter you pres on the keyboard transfers the letter to the screen or something along that line. Their are probably a lot more coding going on in the phone but I cant type that all down.

Technology has affected us in many different ways. One of the ways technology has helped us is by helping us discover new things such as new planets and stars. Another way technology has improved my life is computers, so instead of going to the library to look up something, you can just search it up online.

I think a function is a bunch of actions needed to do something.

I think the coding blocks used in a scientific calculator would be: [when 1 is pressed display 1 on screen], [when 2 is pressed display 2 on screen], and so on for the other numbers. [when + is pressed display + on screen], so on for all the other signs. [when = is pressed solve displayed equation]. [when on button is pressed turn on], [when off button is pressed turn off].

I’m going to put a second example on financial calculators. Some of the blocks would be: [when push on button turn on], [when push off button turn off], [when PV is pressed set present value], [when FV is pressed set future value], [when i is pressed set interest rate], [when n is pressed set frequency]. For those of you who don’t know what future value, present value, and interest rate are I shall explain. For example if I had $100 now that would be my present value. Then if I deposited that money at a bank in a year, my money would become $105. That is my future value. The extra $5 is the interest earned, so the interest rate is 5%.

Overall I think modern technology is quite useful and entertaining.

Hmm... functions. Have any of you ever thought about what a function is? Well I sure have, so now I'm gonna tell you. Basically a function in my opinion is a set of instructions that are mean't to achieve one goal. For example, If I programmed a robot to "Move forward 100cm", "Turn right", then "Move forward 50cm", that would be a function. Okay, so now that I've told you what a function is, I'm gonna tell you the 2 electronics that have improved my life. Firstly, the computer, and that's because it's very versatile. You can watch movies, do homework, go on social media, etc. It is really amazing. Here's a potential function for the computer, "When power button pressed", "Turn on system". I guess that would be the most simple one. And for the other device, I guess it is the alarm clock. Personally I don't use one anymore, however when I did, it was very useful. I think a function would be "Change time every minute", "When 5:30am make alarm noise" (that's when I wake up).

What is function? To me function means a set of instructions you do step by step. Once you follow those steps you will get it to do what you told that thing to do. One example is like when we do coding. The characters can’t do anything unless you tell it to do something. So if you tell it to move forward it will go forward. Another example is construction. You have to look at the instructions to make a very strong building and if u maybe miss a step or something the building just might collapse.

the systems that changed my life were my Nintendo 3ds because it introduced me to 1 of my favorite video game series (which is Pokemon). another system was the Sony play station 2 i got from my friend earlier this year and it turns out my brother had a lot of ps2 games and one of them was Sega classic collection which had sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2 so as soon as i saw the games i played both of them so much. another system was my Nintendo Wii where i got my first sonic game sonic and the secret rings and super smash bros brawl AND Pokemon battle revolution AND Mario kart Wii.

Computers and phones changed my life because of video games (DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, what else???). To me, functions are things that tell a program what to do. For example, you can do /move right(); then /move left(); then /kill();.

Technology is a big part of our everyday lives. It is very important.
Two forms of technology in my life are my phone and my computer because they help me with my school work and provide me with entertainment.
It has definitely impacted the younger generation a lot.
There are some positives and negatives to this situation.
This is a positive as in technology has helped me with school work, such as what I am doing currently.
In the video she used the word “functions” in my words it means a specific list of instructions.
To heat something up in a microwave I think the instructions would be something like this.
Instructions:
1.) Put timer on for the required amount of time
2.) Heat up food or whatever is in the microwave
3.) Make constant annoying sound for 1 minute when done
4.) When button pressed open microwave
I think technology is amazing and hope you do too.

Functions. The function of something is what it does- a specific set of instructions that usually refers to electronics these days, but can be used for things like stone tools, buckets, and even clothes. Examples of tecnology that i use a lot are the computer, which i use to look things up and post a response, 😉 and lights, which help me to see when it's dark out.
