Today, you learned that Apple is being proactive and doing their best to improve the work conditions at the companies that supply them with parts for their products. Your task today is to research a company of your choice and post 2 reliable links (news and video) that show the poor conditions that exist.

In china there is children working for puma and as the article says "the workers are carrying puma on there backs". The video has a boy that has been working for Hans and puma and if you watch the video it is sad.

Since I got 30 out of 50 you need to put the fifty up to 100. So if you mulitply that one by 2 you have to do the same to the other one. So multiplythat by 2 as well and you get 60%.

I chose HP as my example for using child labour.

The HP suppliers that do child labour is called MSI Computer (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese company. HP is basically supporting this company doing child labour. I hope HP does somthing about this.

In the western part of Africa, many children are being forced to work from a young age to grow cocoa beans (On cocoa farms plantaion). Apparently, some children are even abused. Hersheys is one of the biggest brands in chocolate but unfortunately they support child labour. Don't be fooled though, Hersheys is not the only victim of this issue. I read I few articles and I realized that they use child labour in their company. At first, I thought they would be like Apple. Trying to make a change after knowing about this problem. But no, that isn't the case. Hersheys discovered these issues, but never made a change. However, there are many reliable sources I found, Hersheys refuses to release any information about their suppliers. In the end, they announced that "They plan to put 10 million dollars towards solving child labor problems on West African cocoa farms by 2017." I guess we will have to wait and see.

The brand I chose was Gap, the clothes store.

In New Dehli they found children as young as 10 sewing clothes for Gap! But now, they are trying to fix it and are sending 90 full time inspectors to come inspect each Gap without telling them to check whether they are using kids to make clothes or not.

Nike has been accused of using child labor in the production of its soccer balls in Pakistan. This case study will examine the claims and describe the industry and its impact on laborers and their working conditions. While Pakistan has laws against child labor and slavery, the government has taken very little action to combat it. Only a boycott by the United States and other nations will have any impact on slavery and child-based industries. Futhermore the U.S constitution states that child labor is an illegal and inhumane practice and any U.S. company found guilty practicing and encouraging it will be prosecuted.GATT and WTO prohibits member nations, like the United States, from discriminating against the importation of goods made by children. Are dolphins becoming more important than children? A question making WTO to reconsider the children's appeal of the third world. Child labor exists in Sialkot both in the export sector and the domestic sector. This fact has been well documented and reported by the international media for several years but nothing has been done about it. In Pakistan it is clearly documented that child labor is against the law, but the government carries lack of willingness to do anything about it. Provision for education is very limited, due to the fact that very low priority is given to education in the national budgets. Education receives around 3% of the total gross domestic product when compared to over ten times of this amount spent on military. Gender and other forms of discrmination plus adding to the lack of political will, gives the clear picture of the existence of child labor in Pakistan.

Toys r us is one of the largest children's toy and retailers in the country, Toys r us use cotton from Uzbekistan. In Uzbekistan they use kids to work for them and they force the kids to collect the cotton from the cotton fields. They have still not addressed the problem publicly of how they force child labor.

McDonalds has been using children of 14 to make toys in a South Chinese sweatshop for a supplier to the hamburger chain. Monina Wong said her team found children producing toys for distribution in McDonald's restaurants. I will now never go to McDonalds again! (This may seem hard but because I am vegetarian and have been for my whole life this will be easy. We only go to McDonalds about once every two months anyway) I had no idea that McDonalds would support child labour!

if you got 30 out of 50 and you want to know what percent you got all you do is times 50 by 2 and you get 100 then you times 30 by 2 and you get 60 that is your answer 60% out of 100.

I choose Hanes underwear.
they have kids from 12 to 14 working there. they work from 19 to 20 hour shifts. They 95 to 110 hours a week they work from 8:00 to 3:00 or 4:00 am the next day. they have 2 to 3 hours of sleep and them are being waken up the same day. they get beat if they miss a day of work.

I chose Adidas as my company that uses child labour. Adidas hires people aged under 15 to work 15 hours a day and payed less than 60$ a month. Most Adidas goods are made in Asia. Adidas chooses third world countries because its cheaper to hire and pay. When people get sick they get paid less per hour they work.

My company is Reebok The workers are under 15 years old and all they get paid is 20-70 cents per hour! They work 40 hours a week..Some of the husbands and wives only get to see each other about 10 days a year since they are slaves. Most of the labour is in Asia in places like China or Shenzhen city.

Disney, the brand meant for children, uses children in less fortunate countries to make they're products such as cars toys and stuffies. And some of these places the kids only make six cents a day. That is 42 cents a week. Not nearly enough to survive. Here that may not buy an apple.And these children don't only have to make toys for disney, but they also make toys for mattel.

I have decided to go with Firestone the tire company.
The rubber tappers must meet a daily production limit or their already low payments will be halved. Also, they must bring their children and wife to work and the wives have to carry two 70 pound buckets on their shoulders for miles . Tappers and their children must apply toxic pesticides without protection.

Firestone Rubber & Latex Company Prospering from Child Labour and Enslavement in Liberia. I thought this would be a good topic to choose because I thought that this in unfair. "On the Firestone Plantation, children are forced to walk several miles carrying 70 pound load pails of tapped latex on their shoulders supported by sticks. The heavy loads form blisters on their skin and often result in long term back and neck injuries. Rubber latex causes permanent eye damage and all workers, including children, are not provided with safety materials such as gloves or glasses." (CHILD LABOUR) HTC. This article is talking about child labour it says child labour is trying to come to a stop but they are saying they cannot oficaly guarantee it. But I sure hope they stop mostly because they are making kids do work no kid or person should have to do for only about 40 cents (max). Here is the link I found below.

there are 14 years and younger kids that are being forced to create Hanes products. some children say that they have been hit and yelled at. Also they say their pay is 36 cents an hour! With that money you cant even live off of it!

In my opinion child labour is a horrible thing that should be stopped!

@ Mr.Hong this subject is old but it is something that no one has posted on yet. :)

children from India, as young as ten years old, have been making clothes for gap. The children that were working there were from poor cities and families. They had been sold to gap by their families. In one case a little boy wanted to work there because he had a place to sleep. He said that he would soon make enough money to buy a house for his mom. He was only 13 years old. On the other hand there was one little boy that was only 10 years old. He was bought from his parents and taken to the gap sweatshop, in a thirty hour train ride with no food or water. The men who came to take them came in a truck with loud speakers. they told the parents that if they sold their children to them, they wouldn't have to work in the farms.

My post is a little different to what we are supposed to do about, I found out that IKEA doesn't support child labor at all and a small amount of information about how and why they don't accept child labor.

There have been many cases found about IKEA supporting child labor. But according to them, they do not except child labor. On their website they state that there is no child labor where IKEA products are manufactured. If child labor is found, IKEA requires that person to act in the best interest of the child, meaning that they repay what the child wants. Also, they must create an action plan to prevent those type of actions from happening again. IKEA will also visit that child's school that they attend to, and make regular visits to the supplier (Owner). If it happens again, IKEA will not work with that business and the supplier. According to their website, The IKEA Social Initiative supports a project, run by UNICEF, promoting child rights in northern Indian, from where IKEA sources many of its carpets. IKEA has partnered with other organizations to prevent child labor such as, UNICEF and save the children.

There is a large number of child labourers in the world; this number is coming down due to the attention this problem is getting.
Allowing children to get an education will help break the cycle of poverty - poverty is one of the main drivers that encourages child labour.
It is often large brand name companies using child labour in an effort to keep cost low; and profit margins large - buying products from these companies in effect support their policies.

There is child labour in most major companies I noticed for example Samsung. Samsung was found with three under aged females working in a factory two weeks later after Samsung announced that they found that there were no under aged workers. The factory the girls were working in a HTNS Shenzhen Co. factory putting together cellphones.
