Monday: BRAINSTORMING

Today, the students created concept maps and brainstormed ideas on several different topics. They did individual work, worked in pairs, and then shared their ideas with the class. The students have been doing Think-Pair-Share activities all year long and it is great to see them so comfortable learning in different ways!

What is archaeology
Archaeology is basically a study of prehistoric times, and past from over many centuries ago.

What is an archaeologist?
An archaeologist is a person who gets the opportunity to be studying the past in different ways, like using tools to dig up and study newly discovered fossils. They help humans learn about prehistoric times.

What do you think motivates archaeologists?
In my opinion, I think that archaeologists are mainly motivated by the feeling of discovering new things that have yet to be seen and studied. If I were an archaeologist, I would definitely be excited to go to work each day. Imagine getting the chance to be the first person to find an undiscovered fossil of a new species! That would make me motivated every single day!

What tools do they use?
Archaeologists use many different kinds of tools.
These tools can range from the more complicated machinery such as the mapping device, all the way down to a simple dustpan.
The tools can also come in a variety of sizes.
Did you know that most of the time, they take pictures of each new discovery, so a camera is one of their main tools to use.
Depending on the location, plenty of tools can be used like pickaxes for obvious reasons. As well as different types of shovels to either dig, or to file away at the thin layers of Earth at the surface of the ground.

What skills do archaeologists need to be successful?
I think that archaeologists need many different skills such as patience. It may seem like it’s a simple thing, but you would never be successful if you didn’t have any patience. I think it’s important, even though you may be really motivated, you won’t always be finding something like undiscovered fossils. Other than that, you would also need to have a good understanding about the Earth. Being knowledgeable would help you more than you would think, since you wouldn’t take as much time studying something you’ve already seen, or researched before.

What is an archaeologist? Some one how hopes he can digs up stuff like a Dinosaur Skeleton or old buildings and artifacts.

What tools do they use? Shovels, brushes and maps - nowadays they also use sonar to map what is underground before they dig.

What skills do archaeologist need to be successful? What I think is that a archaeologists must have is lots of Patience so they do not quit on the first day of a dig.

Archeologist: Someone who digs up dinasouar bones.

I think what motivated them is that they get to duscover stuff that has never been seen before, and of course you get paid a lot of money.

The skills you need are knowing the difference between a gem or a shiny rock, or an elephant bone or a dinasouar bone.

I think what motovates achaeologist is the thrill of finding interesting artifacts and finding out more about our history and what happend in the past.

They use pickaxes, shovels, meters to measure all the things they need to measure.

Firstly, a second language because achaeologist travel around the world and they need a way of communinicating, Secondly they need to have patience because they can not just rip the artifact out of the ground they have to take it out slowly.

Archaeology is the study of human history and prehistoric times. An Archeologist is a person who studies prehistoric people and their culture. I think what motivates these people is the fact that they're basically taking a look into the past. I think that that would motivate me a lot, because it would be really interesting to see what the world was like way back then. They would also have to look at bones and old pyramids to find out new facts, too. So that means that the tools that they use would be things like brushes and microfine glasses. Archeologists need to be nearly fearless to do their job, because they have to go in old pyramids and look at deadly-looking bones. They would also need to be good at cleaning, so they can clean the bones and artifacts properly.

An archaeologist is someone who examines really old sites and objects to help humans learn about the past. Some archaeologists specialize in one thing such as geographical areas, historical periods or types of object, such as pottery, coins or bones.
What do you think motivates archaeologists?
I think that when they dig up really old things from the past that helps humans learn more about ancient times motivates them to keep going.
What tools do they use?
Small hand shovels, like coal shovels, normal sized shovels and spades, buckets and wheelbarrows are used to clear away the loose dirt, known as “spoil”, and take it to the spoil heap. Archaeologists also use mattocks, which are large hand tools used to break up hard ground. If the archaeology is very delicate and complicated, such as human remains, then sometimes tiny instruments like a dentist’s probe and a toothbrush can be used as well. Brushes are used to clean the surfaces of finds, and to tidy up dirt ready to take photographs. Sieves are used to examine samples of soil for smaller remains such as seeds, and pollen.

An archaeologist and archaeology has the same definition, it is someone who study human history and their historical culture.

I think that the discoveries they find really motivates me because when you find something, you probably want to find more of it.

They use a lot of tools. resistivity meters, magnetometers ground penetrating radar and the sophisticated Global Positioning Systems. More that I know are, axes, gammers, and dusters. Archaeologists need to know how to actually use the tools and be knowing how to take care of the bones and history they find. They should also need to know about what they are facing and the condition of the places.

The way how archeologists are motivated to do thier job is either how close they are to finding something, what they are trying to find and/or if they want to try to find something that day.
The tools that archeologists use is a pick axe, shovel, brush, metal detector and different types of small shovels similar to a knife.
Archeologists need to be patient, gentle, detail and knowledge about the area around them up and down, left and right, in front and behind.

1.) Archaeology is the study of human history/archaeology is when people aka archaeologists study the history from humans long ago.

2.) An archaeologist is someone that studies about human history. For example they would try to figure out what people believed in in the olden age, and a lot of other stuff.

3.) I think archaeologists are motivated because they want to know more about the olden days, and that is what interests them most and they love to do that.

4.) The types of tools that archaeologists use are, brushes to clean off the object and make it more clear, pick axes to break stuff to look at something, ect.

5.) In my opinion I think archaeologists need to know a lot about olden stuff and stuff like that, because they will need to know what it is. Also they need to be very patient because they might not always find stuff.

Like any other job you need to have passion in what you do. It truly is a skill because most people don't enjoy their job. Human behavior is also key.
This is a list to sum up everything:
1) An analytical mind
2) Organization and record keeping abilities!
3) A love of the past
4) A strong back! Though field work at most takes up 3 months out of the year, if you don't have a PhD you'll be doing the grunt work of digging and carrying.
5) Good communication and presentation skills
6) The ability to write effectively and use jargon

Archaeology is the study of ancient things such as dino bones or ruins, in this case, mummies.

An Archaeologist is a human who majors within the knowledge of past things.

I think that what motivates the Archaeologists is the fact that learning about our past can help with our lives in our homes. We can find out what we did in the past and see if we are still making the same mistakes and if so, we can find solutions.

For some Archaeologists, the tools would be of a drill, pick, shovel, hand brooms, trowels, cameras, and etc.

Archaeologist need the skills of focus, determination, inspiration, strong physical attributes, good communication with others and much more.

Archaeology is the study of what people did thousands of years ago, and how they did it. Also, and why they did it.

An archaeologist is a person that studies archaeology. They go down to sites and try to find objects, see how the architecture is like, and see the environment of the site. This is how archaeologists get an idea of what humans did long ago.

I think excitement is what motivates archaeologists. Just wondering what they will find in the sites. And just seeing and picturing how people survived long ago without all the necessitates that we have. They didn't have cars to travel with, and I am sure they didn't have proper plumbing.

Archaeologists use : shovels, picks, brushes, flashlights, and more.

Archaeologists use lots of skills. Here are a few : Determination, being passionate, curiosity, patience, and more.
