MONDAY: FIRST NATION'S INSPIRED ARTWORK

3/2/2015

Today, students started working with acrylic paints. They primed and outlined their first nation's inspired wooden fish. Most students were able to complete the outline of their shapes and they will finish painting their fish during the next art class. Thank you to Mr. Jones for teaching us how to paint today.

Tomorrow, we will be going on a field trip to celebrate a successful term! Mr. Smith has volunteered to drive tomorrow so we now have enough drivers! Thanks Ethan!

Well if your a reporter then it is important to check if your sources are reliable because if you don't you could get fired for giving false information.
1. Check the date when it was updated.
2. And check the date of the day I went to the site.
3. Check it with another source
4. Look how it's designed.
5. See the author's name and if I ever heard a bad thing about the author's name I won't use his source but if I heard some good things then I'll use his source but maybe I'll google his name if I never heard of it. If I didn't check if my source is reliable then I could get Ava's mark if Mr. Hong found different information and checked he would probably fail me on the subject.

It is important to double check your sources when doing research because you will get good information and a good mark if it is school work.

- Check if its recently updated.
- Check who published it.
- Check if the sight looks professional.
- Check other websites to see if it is true information.
- Check how popular it is.

If you didn't check if the website is reliable you would know wrong information and not know what is actually true. If you told other people the wrong information they could get mad at you, get a bad mark if they use it for school work and people wont believe other things that you tell them.

I think it is important to double check your sources because if you don't some information that might be fake or that might bad will go threw. Then you wont get a good mark for, example if you have a lot of good info but you never double checked your scores, if your teacher checks your scores and some unreliable stuff is there your mark will go down.

Things I do to make sure a website is reliable.

-First I check the name of the source to make sure the website has to do with the information I am getting from it.
-Second I check the end of the website(.com, .org, .uk, etc.) to make sure that it is made by something reliable like a government or organization.
-Third I find one to three other reliable sources that back up the fact
-Fourth I check if other people support the fact(s) in the website/webpage in the comments of that website/webpage or in a review website(s)
-Fifth I check with someone else in person or through email/instant message that I know personally to see if it seems reliable

Those are some things I do to check for reliability if I did not check for reliability many of the facts I share in class or on the website would be untrue or incorrect therefore spreading misinformation.

OOOOPS! Why is is important to double check your sources when doing research? Well firstly, it is important to double check your sources because, we want to make sure that the information is reliable, trustworthy, and correct so that we won't have to worry about false information.

The 5/ five things I check in order to test the sources to see if they are reliable:

1.) Firstly, I always check for "Currency", when was the information written and last updated.

2.) Secondly, I always check for "Reliability", where did the author get this/ the information.

3.) Thirdly, I always check for "Authority of author", who is responsible for this/ the information.

4.) Fourthly, I always check for "Authority of organization", does the resource have a reputable organization behind it.

5.) Lastly, I always check for the "Purpose/ point of view", what is the purpose of the information.

Above all, I always check for the C.R.A.A.P test.

If you didn't check the reliability of your sources, you will never know if the information is correct, or if the information is what you are looking for.

@Ariel, On your first point of the point-form part, I didn't really know what you mean't by currency. I thought you mean't money currency but you mean't Time and Date. Also, there is no transition word based on "Fourthly", there is only a Fourth. Because after Thirdly, the rest is just the word itself. Good job on your post overall.

It is VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY important to double check your research or reliable resources just in case of any false information, or anything else that isn't important nor related to that topic. If I were to double check if my research / sources are for sure reliable, here is what I would do:

- Check when the link / research was published. What if that research I found was created in 2008, and it has changed over the years. That wouldn't be reliable anymore, but before it would.

- Compare research. I would try to find another website based on the same topic and compare whether or not it is reliable, whatever one is more reliable to me, is what I would put up.

- Check for professional evidence. Check if the website was published by a teacher that went to a university like BCIT, or any other sort of professional evidence. If it was posted by a teenager that had never done research about it and he got all his facts based upon his knowledge, it probably not be reliable.

- Ask someone that you know that has learned all about the topic and compare it with your research. You want a person that had experienced what was posted about the topic. For example, I would ask my dad any facts about the Philippines of the laws and what-not, because he had experienced this first-hand when he lived back in the Philippines.

- Lastly, but not least, compare that research with the C.R.A.A.P. test, see if it follows its need of reliable research. If none of the above helps, then why not compare it to the C.R.A.A.P. test, which can also be used to see if your research was reliable or if the link was reliable.

- First I check if the website is not a silly name and actually a website.
- Then I check when it was last published so I know it is actually in use.
- Then I make sure that the information sounds true and use my background knowledge so that the web name makes sense. For example nothing like Harry Octopus in the ground news! I would say to my self, nope not true octopus can only live out of the water for 30 seconds.
- Next I would make sure that someone else has been using it daily too.
- The next thing I do is I make sure who the author is.
- Then I read the website link or name and see if there is anything near the bottom of the website saying check out this website for more information!
This is what I would do to check and see if my website is reliable.

If you did not check and see if the website is reliable or not then you would most likely fail any thing that you are researching in school or for a project. If you did not check then you would look like a fool in front of your friends and all. Then you won`t have a good grade on it too. 2. Last updated.
3. Publisher.
4. Is the webpage professinal looking?
5. Check if the statistic or fact is reasonable to your knowledge. For example only 2% in the world have a house of course that is not true so right away you know its not reliable!!

It is really important to double check your research because your research can be false and it will affect your grades if it is wrong.

The ways I know a source is reliable or not:
- I look at the web site and see if there is any spelling errors
- I try to see if the website is actually talking about the subject
- Try and find a common website that everyone goes to
- You can see the people who made the website like unicef there reliable
- Make sure the website makes sense for example 1% of poor people eat. That is not true lot's of poor people eat on the streets.

Those are the things I do with my reliability skills. Reliability skills will help you in a lot of things like a school project or research and other types of things.

It is important to doublecheck sources to find out if they are reliable because if you don't doublecheck you could be saying Yahoo answers or ask.com is reliable windows are most the time just peoples opinions.

If you didn't check if it was reliable you could possibly have some false information so it's always good to check wether it's the URL or whatever.

Here are 5 ways that I check to see if a source is reliable: 1: check info with another site. 2: check who made the site 3: check when the last time the site was updated. 4: look at site setup. 5: look at the end of the URL to see what kind of group or person made it. It is important to double check your resources when doing research because if you don't you could have false information and you might spread false information to society. It is also important to double check your resources because the website you are on could have old information and information is always changing and that''s another way you could spread false information.

1.) Check the last time the website was updated.
You do this because if the information is old then the information could be false because information is always changing. You would want to have up to date information so that you don't spread false information.

2.) Check who wrote the information. (Author)
You do this so that you know if the person who wrote the information is an expert on that subject and it isn't some 5 year old writing lies. Example, if I was reading about turtles I wouldn't want to be on a 5 year old's site I would want to be on a marine biologist's site.

3.) Double check your information with another website.
You want to do this so that you can confirm that your information is correct. Example, if one site says 32% of kids don't have clean water and another site says 87% of kids have no clean water then another site says 33% of kids don't have clean water you can confirm the first site because 2 sites agreed on 1 percentage number.

4.) Check if the website looks proffessional.
You do this because if the website you are on is talking about Newton's 3 Laws and the website backgrround has unicorns and rainbows you know that the website isn't proffesional and that the author probably isn't an expert on the topic.

5.) Check if there are any spelling or grammar mistakes.
You do this so that you know whether it is a proffesional site like www.unicef.org which has NO spelling or grammar mistakes because it is a world wide organization and it is a very proffesional site.

If you don't check if the website is reliable you would spread false information to society and if you write that false information for a test or project you would lose marks and get a bad grade.

The reason it is important to check your resources is because if you don't, there is a possibility that your information is wrong. Here are five questions that you must ask yourself before you hand in your assignment.

1.) When was the site last updated?
2.) Is your information relevant to your topic?
3.) Who is the author of the source?
4.) Where is your information coming from?
5.) What is the intended audience for your source?

If you don't remember too check your sources and they are wrong, this can result as the world thinking that you can die from eating 1 pie a day. It would be fake information spreading to one person to another and that could cause a world corruption.

@Gooner - I like the examples you put up but I recomend you putting periods, commas, more detail, etc. to make your post stand out. Make it as if someone that has no expierence with this subject (so checking if reliable) can clearly read this and understand how to check if there researched info is correct. Plus for a organized post I recomend you putting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 for each suggestion.

Good job overall and I hope you put this into consideration!

You need to check your resources, because you could have different info and two other people have some what of the same kind, then your hopped. Before you hand in your work check your resources and ask your self these 5 simple questions.

1. Is your information the same topic as your topic?
2. Is the author recognizable for there work?
3. Has the site been updated resonantly?
4. Is your audience going to understand it?
5. Where is your information coming from?

It is inportant to double check your resources because, it could be fake information, and who knows it could be alittle kid giving out these information. It could also be information from five years ago.

The things you look for to see if it's reliable is, if the link says .com or .ca, when it was last updated, double check the information with wikipidea, look for the author then ssearch to see what kinds of websites are associated with your author’s name, andif it does not have proper spelling and grammer it probably not "credible."

It is important to double check your sources so you can see how credible the site really is.

5 things you need to check in order to test your sources are;

-Author- its a good indicator if he puts his name to the site as then you can always google him and research his other work.

-Date-if there is a date on the research you can see how recent it is.

-Sources-if the website provides you with credible sources then you have access to look at other sources to back up what is on the website.

-Design of the website-good design on the site helps you to get
better access information.

-Working style-make sure grammer and punctuation are proper.

If you don't compare and check that this website is reliable you could be telling someone the wrong data then everyone else will think what you said is true.

If your research is not reliable you are giving many people faulse information including your self. This could cause many different problems so you have to make sure the information you give out is realiable!

You need to check your resources because if you don't you could be getting false information because anyone can write on the internet. Also you can lose marks for not having true information on a project or something. Here are 5 things to do to check your resources.
~Check who wrote the page. See what qualifications they have on that topic.
~Check when is was published. Make sure your information isn't really old because information can change over the years when it is studied more.
~Check how professional the webpage looks. If the website has a bunch a stuff flashing up every were and it doesn't look professional maybe look for a different website.
~Check to see the adds that pop up. A lot of websites have adds but sometimes the adds are inappropriate.If an inappropriate add pops up it is probably not the best website.
~Cross check your information. Make sure you don't always use only one source for your information. Make sure the information matches up with a different website.

it is important because if you are doing a project or if you are a reporter and you get something wrong you can really get messed up, you might even get fired!

-make sure it is fact, not opinion.
-if it is a organization it is most likely real. (check the domain name)

-how the site looks. (professional v.s. a child made it)
-check if the author is popular and well known or just a no-body.

3) What happens if you donèt follow the above?
If you don't follow the above you can get in lots of trouble and cause rumours that people think are fact.

If it was updated in 1900s there is higher possibilities that the information would be wrong. Secondly I check who wrote the information because sometime five years old can write it. Having reliable information is important because you could get low marks on you research. You have to make sure it is right or else it could affect you and the people who think that your information is real.

1. I check if it is published by a professional doctor or someone professional.
2. The date to see if it has recently updated and not in, for example 1989 because the world and the people in it change most of the time.
3. The end of a url bar like .com and .org and things like that because if it ended in .org then you know that it's an organization.
4. Check with the other websites to know that your information is reliable and not made up.
5. Check if there are any grammatical or spelling errors. If there are any, then it may have not been written by someone who's a professional.

If we don't check if our information is reliable then we would probably fail and other people will believe the information which can cause them to act a certain way. For example, if I say that 56% of children slip on ice in the summer everyday then other people will believe this and be very slow and careful when they walk. That's why you need true information.
