Monday: Roy Lichtenstein Onomatopoeia Art

The students started a Roy Lichtenstein art assignment today as part of their poetry unit. It was very interesting seeing how the assignment has evolved. The student generated criteria always seems to evolve. The students came up with criteria points that have not been assessed in previous years. Click here to see some examples the Division 4 students created last year.

1.) MATH 6 - Complete your calculations. You must show all your work on paper. Once you have completed all 9 of your calculations for each 'STOCK' then you must also complete your spreadsheet in your Google Drive. Use the following formula: =sum(Buy Price*Number of Shares)
MATH 7 - Any assigned work.

2.) SOCIALS 6/7 - Rewrite all answers in full and complete sentences. Hand it in via our digital 'HAND-IN BOX' through Google Docs/Drive.

3.) POST A RESPONSE: Watch this CBS video on Pop Art and Roy Lichtenstein.
a.) Do you think his artwork is worth 40 million dollars?
b.) Thinking back to what you learned about the elements/principles of art and design. Comment on at least 3 different elements that you noticed in his artwork in the video and be sure to provide details. If a picture has lines, explain how the lines/colour/shapes/contrast/etc are important? Do they create anything? How do some of the elements help create a certain effect?

FIRST!

I think that his art is worth 40 million dollars because it's so good and when people pass away, their belongings are worth more. Some of the elements of art and design included in his art are:
-shape, almost every kind of art has shape.
-color, all of his art is colored.
-line, art needs lines or it won't show what's what.
-finally, value. Art needs value if you're thinking of it as your future, if it has no value, no ones going to buy it.

I think that his paintings are not worth 40 million dollars but I think that they are still worth quite a lot because the effort he put into them and that painting might have meant a lot to the person that bought it. His paintings are really awesome I noticed in the video he used a lot of shape, from and line there is shape because in his paintings they were as the reporter said "not really something an artist would have drawn" I think that Roy Lichtenstein had a very creative mind and how he thought about the things he painted. His paintings have a lot of form because they are different shapes that artist do not draw for example a be be begun for no reason. Lastly, Line his painting have a lot of line well, any drawing and paintings have a lot of line because that is what makes them a drawing or a painting.

ugh there is a video at the bottom that you were supposed to watch and then answer the questions (the art e.g lines contrast. I think we did a long time ago)

I think it's worth 40 million dollars because it's original and inspiring and to just say that you own one of his paintings would be just jaw droping. Secondly I think it sold for that much was that it's simple yet cool and you could just look at it and make it. I think he used lines for sure and definitely colour and lastly contrast.

i think his art isn't worth 40 million but it's still worth a lot of money. I for sure saw colour because none of his paintings had no colour and the colour was one of the things that make his paintings POP! I also saw a lot of design because if there was no design and he wanted to draw a person then all that would show up would be a stick man. Because design creates the art and it makes shape. And lastly lines i noticed a lot of lines because without lines it would be just a plain piece of paper, lines are wat create art.

I think his art work is not worth 40 million dollars even though a person bought one of his pieces for 43 million dollars at an auction. In art if you didn't have lines there would be nothing on the page that you're drawing on. Lines create everything in art basically.

Grade 7's, what is the math homework?

In my opinion, I think that his artwork is NOT worth $40 million dollars. His artwork is amazing, but the cost is too much. People in the army risk their lives for their country and don't get paid nearly as much. I think maybe $1 million dollars should be the price of the art.

First of all, colour. Roy Lichtenstein used colour specifically blue, yellow, red, and black. It's good to use colour because it makes the art " pop ", and it makes contrast. Secondly, shape. It's important to use shape in art because it gives the viewer something to catch their eye. Speaking of shapes, how do you create it? Line. Lines create shape, which is in every single piece of artwork.

In my opinon I think that those drawings should just be examples of graphic novles its not really all that interesting but I also think that it isn't worth all that much money not 43 million. but I have to admit he is a pretty god drawer that Lichtenstien his drawings in total maybe are worth about $100-$200 at most per piece and some elements that I spotted that was showing was space lines and shape those are the three elements that I found in his drawings

I think that his paintings are worth 40 million becuase some people say when the like famous person is dead whatever they had or made is worth more. Also some of the elements I saw we're shape and colour. I think it is a good thing to have color because it would be very boring just looking at something that is black and white. Also shape is important because without shapes there would be no picture, really.

I do not think it is reasonable for it to be 40,000,000 dollars unless it takes him like 5 years to finish one painting.
I noticed that in all his paintings he has actions and emotions he also uses a lot of primary colours I think he uses primary colours because none of the colours look alike. It is important to add lines to any drawing because if you just draw a bunch of colours it will look like a colour formed into a shape it also can add actions or a 3D affect to it.

a) I dont think the art he does is even close to 40 million dollars I would not pay anymore than 30$ for that art but who ever buys the art for that much money is like crazy rich or doesnt no how much 40 million dollars is.

b) in his paintings the elements that I noticed him use the most were emotions, actions and primary colours all of his paintings are outstanding because he uses a 3d effect that makes it pop out and they are just so detailed

I don't think his art is worth $40 million because, first of all, there are other talented people in the world that can do the same thing as him. Seriously, he was drawing hot dogs and couches,I bet @Rainbowdash could do a better job:D But his art is quite creative, there are many dots and spots over the humans faces. His art includes the elements of shape, value, Colour, 3D and lines. I just can't see him selling those paintings for $40 million. Only billion airs would buy them. besides, there are other paintings you could buy for just as good but cheaper.

A)I think it is worth 40 million dollars because people walk by and stare because they are so good, and also because everyone thought he was an abseloutely horrible artist and so when they saw the good side it just seemed better because they all thought it was bad.
B) color: All of his art had lots of color
Line: All of his art has line if it didn't it would be a blob
Shape: Because of line it gave the art shape and without shape again more blob.

In my opinion, I don't think that it is worth 40 million dollars because that would be to much for just one painting. When people first saw his painting they didn't even know what it was but now that they can see what he means by his art people really like it but I dont think that it would be worth 40 million dollars because thats to exspensive no one has that money sitting in there walet also, his art is really creative but anyone can draw an action drawing is someone bought that for 40 million dollars is cray cray (crazy). The art work is amazing the texture and colours really make it POP out! The elements of art h used was lines, shapes, texture, emotions and primary colours also a 3D effect.

Art is worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it.

I may not be willing to pay 40 million for a piece of Pop Art; but know different things are important for other people.

A.) Yes, I think his art could be SOLD at 40 million dollars, but in my opinion it's not WORTH 40 million dollars. It is a little expensive for one painting. Which I have seen many artists in our class from past years that are very good artists with artwork even a little better than his.
B.) I think he used contrast, by putting a darker colour with a lighter colour to make the image "Pop!" He had also used shape to get the almost 3-D form to it. With that, he had also used lines to form certain
2-D shapes. I guess you could say that when they use these elements and more, it creates the "Certain touch" needed to complete it well.

I think that this art is worth 40 million because he has a lot of paintings and they are worth a lot of money, they are colorful and when they die their belongings especially their art have higher values like if his art work was worth 30 million it's now probably worth 40 million. I found that the lines and colors made it stand out and so did the shape.

A.) I think that his work is worth 40 million dollars because he was creative, he didn't have a normal thing, he had a abstract feeling to the things he made. When people die, their paintings or sculptures suddenly get more pricey and expensive, they do this because they think of it like a last painting of one of the greatest artists of all time but they aren't sure if they will ever be, turns out, Roy Lichtenstein was one of them.

B.) Most of Roy's paintings had all the elements to art but most of the had the these three the most; Colour, Line, Form. When roy used colour, he didn't use to much, he made limits which shows that he can make the most out of nothing, he gets his inspiration at many things, most have one to five colours, sometimes even none at all. Line is used by roy in many ways, he made patterns so small that it looked as if those sections were coloured, he normally made smooth, comic art styled lines, they looked printed, they took space and made borders, they mad forms on his "used canvas." Form is very different in Roy's art work because he made forms of many abnormal objects to an artist's world, he made pieces that are just hot dogs or couches, just that. His forms are one of wonders that they even seem pointless to people and to others, master pieces.

In my opinion, I think it is worth 40 million dollars. The reason why, is because no one would ever think it is creative art. The fact that it is not creative makes it creative, if that makes any sense. Also, if you think about it, there's a meaning to every one of his paining's. Or maybe even feelings, it could be humour, sadness, and many more!
Firstly, there are colours. Not just any colours though. Primary colours, which are blue, red, and yellow. But he does also use black and white sometimes. Every colour is important because, with out it you wouldn't get that "Pop" effect. Secondly, there is a onomatopoeia used in pop art. For example if you draw a cat, the onomatopoeia might be "MEOW!". Thirdly, there is shape. In this type of art we use a border around the onomatopoeia. It is commonly a graphic type of bubble. With this kind of shape it really emphasises the whole image and the concept.

A) yes I do think Roy Lichtenstein's work/Art is worth 40 million$ I think this because you can get them for cheaper but he was the one who came up with this and the couch and hot dog was free expesion and I like it
B) he used 3-D lines/shades to make it 3-D and he used color to make it POP (he only uses the primary colors) then last but not least shape. shape makes it what it is like the shape of a um plane crashing with out shape it probably would not look like that.

A.) I think it is worth that much, mostly because he was the creator of the art, and by being the creator, he is the one all the others have to amount, making him the best at what he does.
B.) He used Textures, 3-D Lines and 2-D lines and used color in all aspects. Texture because I noticed in one point of the video he places a piece of paper on it, in the shape of a lily pad, making it so it's not 1 Dimensional. 3-D because he used primary colors to make certain parts of the painting POP (No pun intended), and 2-D because in the parts that were not 3-D, he seemed to keep it flat and less enthusiastic, making a balance in the colors.
