Learning intentions and student generated criteria

Today, students continued learning about reading strategies. Each of them had the freedom to read one of the two available readings. One story was called, "Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt" and the other was called, "How Smudge Came." Both stories were interesting and the students used their reading strategies to display their thinking on their papers. Tomorrow, the students will complete a response sheet and then they will type out their written responses on their Google Drives. Once they have completed their first drafts, they willcomplete a peer assessment and give feedback to one another in order to improve their work and to push their thinking deeper.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's website.
MATH 7: Complete worksheet 2.4 and Questions #1-6 from Section 2.4 in the textbook on pg 58-59.

2.) SCIENCE 6/7:

Your first draft of your 5 adaptations paragraphs need to be completed on your Google Drives so you are ready to complete your peer assessment tomorrow afternoon.
Continue drawing your pictures and working on your projects. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CRITERIA SHEETS.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Answer the following question using the paragraph format you have learned in class. In other words, it must include an interesting introduction, supporting sentences (examples, statistics, quotes, etc), and a conclusion.
One you have finished your paragraph, check the criteria above to ensure you have included everything!
Why should we be kind and respectful to others?

4.) CLASS CHALLENGE:

If every student is able to complete tonight's 'POST A RESPONSE' correctly, you will be given a 'POST A RESPONSE' holiday for one week!

Being respectful to others can really make you seem like a great person. There are a few reasons I have that I will tell you. The first one is it makes you a good example. You look like a good example when you are being a respectful person. When someone looks at you, they will probably want to copy you because of human nature.
Secondly, when you accept the consequences of getting in trouble by respecting whoever is talking to you about it, for example your parent catches you doing something wrong, you need to make sure you aren't arguing. This makes whoever was talking to you think good of you. Another reason to respect someone is because it makes you feel good. It makes you happy and the person you are with will like that. Lastly, It raises our self portrait. By that I mean people will most likely not talk badly about you. If you disrespect someone, they may say things that is rude about you and we willed be nagged about our behaviour to others. A quote by Albert Einstein is, “I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”

@ Mr. Hong - Remember how on Thursday last week I told you that
you spelled something wrong. Well, once again it has happened.You told me your auto complete or spell check made one of the words in the daily planner last week be spelled wrong. Today, in the message, you wrote this:they willcomplete a peer and blah blah blah. If you haven't noticed, you wrote WILLCOMPLETE without the space. I know I am making a big deal out of it, but I got nothing else to do....

Why should we be kind and respectful to others? Well, you should be kind and respectful to others because when you say something kind it makes that person feel good than you feel good for making someone feel good. You should be respectful to others because being disrespectful makes others feel really bad and that makes you not feel good. Secondly, why you should be kind and respectful because what goes around comes around so, if you are not kind and disrespectful people are going to be not kind and disrespectful to you than you won't feel very good and and vice versa. Another reason, why you should be kind and respectful is because it makes everybody feel good and if you don't everybody is grumpy and not nice to be around. To conclude, being kind and respectful just makes everybody feel good and make a happy place to be. That's why it is good to be kind and respectful. Are you kind and respectful?

You may ask "why should I be nice to other people", well if you do you have come to the right place because that is what I am going to talk about.

One reason you should be nice to others is because they feel happy, then if they are happy it will reflect on other people. Also it will make you feel better about yourself because you have done a good deed to make someone else happy.

Another reason is because if you are disrespectful or mean then it will make other feel bad and that will reflect onto other people they are around. Also because if you are disrespectful then you won't feel very good because you we're mean to someone.

Lastly because if you are nice then word will get around and people will think "wow he is very nice" and then more people will like you. If you are disrespectful then people will think "I don't want to hang out with him he's disrespectful.

In conclusion you should be nice because if you are then you will feel better, if you aren't then you won't feel very good, and lastly if you are nice word will get around. Being nice is good, will you do it?

Why should we respect others?
We should respect others because it makes everyone else feel good inside, and also you too for doing somthing good for the other person and having respect for them. And from you giving respect to them, they will most likely give respect back to you. Things like not giving respect to others starts wars in other countries resolving in death. It's the little things we do everyday that makes the big diferance to the world and how evey will get along with each other.

Respect: The most important word. I believe that every problem would be solved if people respected others, respected environment and respected ourselves. Second, people feel good about respecting people, because respecting people is like giving them a good deed. Good deeds make you feel like you contribute to someone's happiness. Finally, I think that we should invent the hashtag #respect and have everyone post a picture on Instagram or Twitter of them respecting others, property or themselves. All in all, I think that a respect makes this world a better place.

P.S. This is a small response, but bigger doesn't always mean better!

Have you ever wondered why you should be nice to others?Have you ever wanted to just always be a jerk?Well no madder what you should never be a jerk because then you will be no better than the person who was being a jerk to you. I know this because I know this because I have seen and been in those problems it does not end well. Being kind and respectful is nice person and we all wants to be friend with them and follow. First because every one likes respect and kind person.
'What comes around goes around' like this habit when we respect others and being kind everyone will respect you and being kind to others.

Do you think you should respect others the way you were harshly respected? Of course not, we should respect them like they're a pet you like or animal you like. If you don't understand the word respect then I got a meaning for you,

R = Review, Review what you done bad and don't do it again.
E = Encourage, Encourage others to win or do well.
S = Self, Think what yourself should be doing to others first.
P = Participate, Participate with others, not themselves.
E = Education, Love your education, like the way you learn.
C = Confident, Be confident for everyone.
T = Turn, Turn the other way around if you don't respect others.

But respect doesn't mean only that to me, it means to care for others, watch out for everyone, be polite to others, and much more. Now that is what respect means to me. Remember the letters RESPECT and become a better person. Now, what does it mean to you?

Hello to the people reading my response on what I think respect means to me. I'm going to talk about the Golden Rule a little bit and who and what we should respect.

If you don't respect other people other people will not respect you, it's sort of like the Golden Rule just modified a little. Also we should use the R.O.L.E.S in and out of school because we should respect our family just as much as our teachers. We should also respect others property and learning because if you don't respect others learning and property people won't respect yours, again just like the Golden Rule modified.

I don't know about you, but doing something nice for someone else makes me feel good. Not only does it make me feel good, but it also makes the person I was kind to happy, and they might do something kind for someone else. An unknown source once said, " Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime." Did you know that being kind does not only improve your health but also increases your lifespan? Being kind and respectful to people is really important because it makes everything more peaceful. You may not think it means a lot, but giving someone a complement or saying something nice to someone really makes their day! For example, if someone were to say "I think your really good at ____" that person will believe it and that would probably make their day. We should try to also be friends with everyone, because the more friends you have, the more people will look up to you, and be inspired, and others will start being nicer to everyone. On the other hand, being rude and mean to someone will really hurt their feelings. To illustrate, if someone was to say "your so bad at ______" or "Your really ugly" that would stick in that persons head for a long time and they will remember it. Respect: Respect is a thing to make people feel good and safe. When people are respectful to me when ever im around them I feel really safe. If you respect someone you would feel good for your self. You don't just repect people on one day. You respect them every single day. Any where you go you respect people. If someone gets mad at you just say sorry and walk away. That is why you should be respectful and kind to one another, that is like the main reason. One thing while you should have when you are kind is Integrity. Integrity is being nice without someone looking. For example if a teacher is not in the room, you should still act and do the actions you do when he/she is still here like picking up a juice box that is on the ground, do it to help not to just make the teacher proud. Most people probably do not actually have integrity, I know I always don't, I do it to make someone proud not to help out. Kevin once said, "Be nice and "nice" will hit you back."

There are lots of reasons to be respectful, but one of the main reasons to be respectful would be to make people happy and do not make people think badly of you. If you are a nice person you will have a good reputation and people will want to be around you. Also it is just good hygiene to be nice to others and you might get something good in return.

We should be respectful to others because people are all so easily offended that if you don't watch your tongue they turn into big blubbering babies who start lecturing you on respect and positivity. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, it's just people need to not freak out when someone says something they don't like, but other people also need to learn to know the others boundries and know that some people can't handle their personalities, so they should keep from offending them.

Why should we be kind to one another? My answer is why not. In the book the gift of the Magi both characters gave each other gifts from the heart. They sold something they love for their love for each other. Yesterday at Cadets I listened to a speech on bullying. This was very powerful because he talked about all the types of bullying. People being mean to one another is bullying. And no one wants to be known as a bully. To conclude, a quote from Michael J. Fox:
“One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.”
