Learning How To Play Water Polo

Today, we went on a field trip to the Fleetwood pool to learn more about water polo. Students have had several in class sessions learning about the sport and what it takes to play the game. In addition to this, we also learned about the sport in our gymnasium. Many students learned how challenging the sport is and how much hard work and strength it requires. You all did a great job today! Keep it up because we have two more pool sessions!

1.) LA/ART: Continue working on you Roy Lichtenstein Artwork. You will have one last class to work on it tomorrow.

2.) MATH 6/7: Complete any unfinished work.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you turned your theoretical knowledge of the sport of water polo and actually learned how to play the game at Fleetwood pool.
What did you learn about the sport today? Provide an example of what you learned.
What can you infer about professional water polo players?
List at least 3 characteristics and why you think water polo players possess those characteristics.

I learned the hard way that the nets do NOT float and they will sink if you hold on to them. I think some of the things pros have is, strong leg and arm muscles from swimming. and great team skills because they have to learn how to interact with each other to get the most amount of goals.

I learned that its not as easy at it looks like for example I thought I could float but after those 4 or 5 lengths I had no more power. I think the first thing they need is power because without that you could get a cramp and sink. The second thing they need to be professional swimmers because it is hard to cut your hands threw the water. The third skill they need is communicating with other players so they could pass to each other and score the goal.

One example of what I learned is; I learned the rules of Water Polo and how it is playd fairly, I also learned tips to play the sport.

I can infer that professinal Water Polo players must have very good, strong arm and leg muscles. I know this because if you are in 3 meter water and in the video posted one game is about 1 hour they must have to have very good muscles to tred the water for that long (but they have breaks). I can also Infer that Water Polo players are very healthy because all athletes have to eat healthy for good accuracy for example; They need to have strong bones... so they will probaly eat dairy like Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, etc.

3 characteristics are:
1. They need to be a good swimmer, no swimming means no Polo.
2. As mentioned above they need to be healthy.
3. Also mentioned above you need good muscles to tred water.

@Azbo your post was really good and you put lots of detail in your work but I think you had a bit of spelling corrections, like when you said "Water Polo and how it is playd fairly" you spelled played wrong. but other than that your post was pretty good.

I learned that water polo is not an easy sport. For example it is not easy to throw a ball with one hand and at the same time as your swimming.
They must train a lot.

@OMGCOTTONCANDY - Make sure you are following criteria, I agree with you that it is hard. When you say "They must train a lot", how can I believe that? I don't have proof that it is true. When you need infer make sure you have your proof.

A good and easy way to think of it is:
Say you have a job, and there is a very important file you must not loose or you won't get paid. (so think of that as the infrence) Now to not loose it say for example my omputer can break, etc. I will back it up to my Google drive. (now I gave proof how I would store it).

So now I can infer that, that person urgently needed the file an to save it he would use his Google drive.

So now instead you can say "they must train a lot because treding water for so long is very hard, aswell as throwing the ball". You get the idea.

In your post you have not listed any charateristics of water polo players.
An example will be:
They are strong.
They know how to swim.
They must eat healthy.
Now those are VERY simple examples now you can go back and "backup" the inference.

Good job overall and make sure you add more detail. I hope this has helped you.

I learned that it may look easy but treading water for long periods of time can be strenuous.
I think that pro water polo players have the following because they are required in their line of work.
Multitasking ability , strong leg muscles, good overall cardiovascular health.

I learned how hard it was to float in the water for that long and swimming is hard once your in the pool for a hour.

To be a professional water polo player you need to be a really good swimmer and you need to be really strong.

In water polo I find it hard to float with out a belt if you do not have the right strength. I tried to take my belt off and I lasted about 1 minuite. So, its not that easy. Also, Once you are in the pool for an hour you can get REALLY tired and REALLY thirsty. That makes you want to eat a mountain and drink an ocean

A water polo athlete needs to be good at swimming obviously. But he/she needs the strength to be a good swimmer. They also need to have good balance.

Today I learnt many different things in Water Polo. But, the first thing I learnt was that if you are playing Water Polo you will need to be able to swim, raise both hands, jump, and do the eggbeer with your feet underwater. For example, if you do not know how to swim you wouldn't be able to play Water Polo. Another example, is that if you don't know how to do the eggbeer with your feet it will be a challenge staying above the water.

I can infer that professional Olympic Water Polo players have strong leg and arm muscles. I know this because swimming is a hard sport including the arms and legs ; which are the main body parts you use for swimming.

Characteristics for Water Polo players:
1.) They need to have strong, healthy leg and arm muscles.
2.) They need to have a healthy lifestyle, like eating vegetables and fruits instead of junk food.
3.) They also need to be fit.

Today I learned that in water polo you have to be able to swim and wear a special hat. It has ear padding to stop ear infections.

I can infer that pro Olympic Water Polo players have strong muscles and are very good swimmers. I know this because when I swim I instantly new that if you did not know how to swim or have strong muscles, you would be in trouble.

Characteristics for Water Polo players:
1: They need to be strong and fit and have good strong muscles because if not they will be weak against the pool water and will need help to swim.
2: They need good sportsmanship so that they don't get booted from the game.
3: They need to eat healthy because if they don't then they will have stomach aches and much more different pains.

Today in water polo I learned how to dribble the ball. First, you put it between your your arms as you swim front crawl with the ball bouncing between your arms. It’s really hard because the ball gets away from you. I infer that a pro polo player has big, muscular legs and arms because you have to tread water the whole time. I also infer that they will have a lean body because swimming by it self is a good workout, but playing games in water and polo is an even better workout. Water polo is super fun!

I learned that water polo is a very hard-working sport that takes a lot of effort I found this out by them teaching us a lot of drills we had to do going back-and-forth. I can infer that professional water polo players are very strong and athletic. Three things that made me think of those are because of my experience today, And those were being athletic being strong and learning that we need to be hard-working.

Today I learned that you can only catch and throw the ball with one hand, and you have to be able to tread water.(eggbeater)

I infer that water polo players are very good swimmers and have a lot of upper body strength. Why do I think this? I think this because if you can't swimm good then how are you a good water polo player. And if you don't have any upper body strength then how can you throw the ball and catch with one hand. In other words water polo was not as great as I thought but I had fun.

Today I learned that you can only use one hand to catch and throw the ball. For example, today in our game the coach would blow the whistle to stop the game if someone used two hands. I can infer that water polo players are great swimmers because if you don't swim a lot it is very hard to stay up for a long time. Three characteristics that I think water polo players have is a strong upper body, strong legs, and have to be able to swim. They must have a strong upper body to swim and pass/throw the ball at the same time. They must have strong legs to hold themselves up in the water by treading water. Water polo players must be able to swim before they can even learn to play water polo.

professional players have to have strong arms and legs.You have be healthy player swim for about half an hour or longer.
you need to be a strong swimmer.
drink a lot of water.

1) What I learned about water polo today is:

- You can only use 1 hand to throw and catch the ball.
-You need to know what's happening to help your team.
- You have to tread water in a real game for 8 minutes.

2) I infer water polo is played in the water and that you have to be a strong swimmer to play the sport.

3) Three characteristics are:

- You need to be a strong swimmer have good balance and strong legs.

- You need to have offensive tactical skills blocked shots received and shot precision.

- You need to be focused on the game and not be distracted,and be persistent (keep playing and pass, and shoot quickly).

Today during Water Polo, I learned that we could only throw the ball with 1 hand, not both or else its cheap. Second of all, you need to know how to swim or float, if your unable to do that then you would get a life vest or life belt. Unlike in the Olympics, they wouldn't allow you to compete since they only need pro athletic swimmers, Lastly, you NEED TO WEAR THE HEADGEAR. If you don't, the ball could damage your ears and would probably smash your eardrums.

What I can infer to professional Water Polo swimmers is that the way they play, the referees and coaches are very strict with their team, such as the coach we had was showing an example. Its just so they may grab their attention. I can also Infer that the rounds we did were much shorter than real time per round which is 8 minutes per quarter.

Swimming, obviously they have to know how to swim, no life vests nor belts can support them in the real Olympics and they would drown if they can't swim during the game.

You need to think smart, you should be able to know where the ball would be thrown so you may have the advantage of taking the ball, also knowing the opposing teams weaknesses can help you win. They also have to be smart about the rules, if they don't follow them its a penalty.

Lastly, you need to be strong. If you can't throw the ball, and your a skinny bones, then you would need to support it with another hand. Sadly, using a second hand is part of the rules, you can't use a second hand. That's why we need lots of nutrients and to stay healthy.

I have not done water polo in gym or pool and was not abled to see the kids in the water doing water polo from where I was sitting. All I know is that you have to wear a swimming cap and you have to hit a ball with only one hand and try to get into a net.

If you are professional at water polo you have to be really good at swimming to pass and get to spots while playing. You have to have a strong hand or palm for when you have to hit the ball across the pool. You need to be abled to go under water without having to wear goggle because goggles can get in the way.

This is what I know I have never done water polo.

I learned that water polo is very active sport. Also you have to use one hand to catch and throw the ball, and you need to be good at swimming. I infer that professinal water polo players are very good at swimming because they play the game in the water, and I can infer that they are good at throwing because we throw the ball many times while we are playing water polo.

I learned that we play water polo in teams of two and you have to wear weird hats. Profesional water polo players need to practice, be good swimmers, and be strong. Water polo players have patience to get the ball, they are smart to know where to throw the ball, and they are competitive because they wanna win.

At water polo I learned to be strong and keep moving. When you have the ball you don't hold it. You are supposed to put your hands on the bottom of the ball and put in front of your face then start swimming as fast as you can. Or you could put the ball in front of you and start swimming with the ball without touching it. You also have to be really focused when you are playing water polo. You have to look out for the ball and listen.

I didn't play water polo but I can infer that water polo is a tiring sport and requires a lot of energy. I can also infer that professinal players have a lot of training and that they probably have to train for hours because water polo looks really hard, because you have to tread water for a long time. I think the first thing they need is energy. The second thing they need is a lot of practice. And the third thing they need is communication skills so that they can communicate with the other players and have a good strategy to get a point.

I learned that water polo is hard! It it really hard catching the ball with only one hand this is even more true if you have really small hands like me. Also it is really hard to swim for that long! I'm really glad I wore one of those belts.
I think the pros must have large hands. I think this because it is really hard to catch the ball with one hand when you have small hands. Also the pros must be very strong swimmers to swim for so long.

I learned that you can only hold the ball with 1 hand . I think the pros must have great upper and lower body strength because to be able to throw a large ball great distances is difficult. Also because it is very hard to stay aflout when both of your hands are out of the water.
