MONDAY: Wet Mounting a Specimen

Can you guess what this is?

Today, students learned how to wet mount a specimen onto a slide. In addition to this, they did some quick research and learned about the different parts of a compound microscope and their functions. They worked in partners and described what each part did in their own words. It was great to see the collaboration and excitement of all the students.

Tomorrow, the students will investigate the onion cell and will draw and label the different parts they find while examining it under the microscope.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work.
MATH 7: Complete the mid-chapter review on page 68-69. The three questions we touched on in
class are explained and outlined on pg. 68.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

Take a look at today's Instagram image.
Get creative and write a short story about what you see. For example, it can be a story of a new discovery or a story about finding the cure for a disease.
Remember, you story needs a beginning, a middle, and an end and should be logical.
Don't forget the givens: spelling, transition words, grammar, capitals, punctuation, varied sentence structure, etc.

I see a used up bronze piece of that metal stuff we used for soapstone. This has a use for taking scratches of the soapstone carving. Sorry, but thats what it is, Logan and I did this.

I guess I can do a story on it. It was a blazing hot day in Houston, Texas. Kids were trying to find an ice cream truck while sipping the last drips of water from the jugs of water. Scientist were astonished to find out something so extraordinary. It was that a huge metal ball on top of a barnyard house. What they figured it was doing is radiating on to all things metal, causing heat from the shining sun. Strangely, the ball was getting larger by the minute. one minute it was about 2 feet tall, the next it was 7. Jerry, the scientist, wanted to check it out. After a trip back to his house, he drove a ladder there. He then climbed the barnyard, and he really was shocked to see it was approximately 40 feet tall. He reached to touch it, then suddenly, everything turned white. He landed in a puddle of water not knowing where he was. He looked around, and thought, " How could this be, the buildings are all brown wood, and cars are replaced with horses." Where was he? He suddenly looked over to a sign that said 1760, population: 300. Jerry thought to himself, " Oh my, I have travelled back in time to the wild west." To be continued...

Once upon a time, a piece of steel wool was floating on the sea. The steel wool was happily floating until a shark swallowed it. The shark was in severe pain and spit it back out, but through the rear end. The steal wool continued to float on the sea. Then a scientist who was studying the mysteries of the ocean came along and grabbed the steel wool. He brought it to his lab and ran a test. It had huge shark teeth marks and a tiny flesh of skin. The scientist looked in it through a microscope and stopped breathing for a second and then fell to the ground. The scientist was never to be seen again.

I was creeping through the forest when I stepped on something. It was a bird. There was a dead bird lying underneath my feet. I followed it's foot prints to a huge tree. There it was, a birds nest that could probably fit about 10 birds inside of it! I took it down from the tree to inspect it. When I got back to my lab I set the birds nest on the table. I carefully brought my microscope over and examined the nest. It turns I pout it was made by a bird that was going to be extinct! Since then I have kept the birds nest as a memory of this discovery.

Once upon a time, there was a kid named Jimmy. One day jimmy was walking in the forest when it had suddenly started raining sweet potatos. Jimmy came home to his mother and said, "I don't like sweet potatos anymore mother" Jimmy's mother had said, "Jimmy... You look so tender and plump and... (Jimmy is fat) Sweet potato smelling." Delicious Jimmy's mother had thought. Jimmy's mother stuffed him in a bag while Jimmy was studying for his science test the next day, and thru him in a big pot downstairs above the fire and ate him for dinner. WHAM! Went the micriscope on the desk. Does this not look like the deadly desease that has been common to find on the farm animals around here!?! This disease has been killing hundreds of people around the country! This had been a problem for two months now, and the goverment has not alowed this reaserch team to try and help stop the disease from spreading. This is government bisness now get out of it! You have not been able to find a sample of it that is in this good of shape. And so for another whole month they had meetings to try how to stop it but by that time the disease had spread over half of north america. There was no way to stop this. The airlines to diffrent places where packed. There is no hope now but to shut down every single animal farm in the entire of north america and have no meat come from there. This disease has ripped apart north america even more. It has spread to humans.

Believe me, I never thought that what happened today would happen in my entire lifetime, and maybe even in 10 lifetimes. I knew that something weird was going on that day, everybody did, including my sister, Ayla. From the time the clock struck 12 and it was February 3rd, 2014. Something about the way the clouds didn't clump together like fluffy cotton candy, like usual. They were more like pasta, stringy and soggy, like they wanted to rain down but somehow couldn't. As soon as I saw them I felt creeped out, like spiders slowly crawling down my back. A slow breeze was in my face. Everything smelled metallic, and the air was thick and almost had a tinge of brown. I knew I wasn't imagining it, because Ayla looked funny, as if she felt it too. I never liked Ayla, and I thought I never would. She is a 3rd grade pain. People started walking to school along side of me and Ayla and were slightly crouching, as if they expected the sky to fall at any moment. When I got to my best friend's house, I walked up to the door so we could leave to walk to school. I knocked on the door, and no one answered. I stepped away, about to look in the window, but suddenly the door opened. I didn't dare go inside. I ran. As fast as I could, faster than I ever had before. Ayla was struggling to catch up. I got to school in 3 minutes flat, and continued running right into my classroom and into the cloakroom. I didn't care about my sister, I just ran away. I put away my things and sat down at my chair. It was freezing cold, I had a headache from it. People were at school faster than normal, as if they just wanted to be around people and not in the middle of the thick air outside. I could tell our teacher, Mr. Hong, was nervous too, but he was trying hard not to show it. His voice was all wobbly as he said, "H-Hello boys and girls, l-let's s-start our first lesson." He showed us to the table which had about 15 microscopes on it. We were to partner up and use them. When I went to get one with my partner, my friend Meagan, I suddenly heard a weird noise, some sort of voice. I strained to hear it, and it became more than one voice, all whispering together. They were now almost yelling, but just too quiet to hear. Other kids had heard it too, and now everyone was getting worried. Mr. Hong, who had by now composed himself, said, "Sit down, everyone. It must be the heater. It is awfully cold today." Nobody said a word as we all silently took our microscopes and sat down at our chairs. Our teacher instructed us to take them out and look through them.

Now, I must warn you that what I saw under that microscope cannot and will not be unseen, for the "specimen" that was supposedly accidentally left there was something that people thought was harmless, and indeed not living. But when everyone looked down, we all knew the thing that was left under the microscopes was not accidental. Because this incredibly horrid thing that I am about to tell you about was not just under one person's microscope, but ALL of the microscopes. And as soon as everyone looked into the microscopes, the reaction was all the same. "AHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The thing that was left under the microscopes was a beastly thing, alive and deadly, disgusting and smelly. How no one can know that when a piece of steel wool rusts it turns alive is a mystery. I guess no one looks close enough to see the mouldy face, the purple eyes, and deep yellow fangs. But today, everyone in my class did. And when someone looks at a living piece of steel wool up close, the steel wool goes apsolutely CRAZY. Of course, these creatures are incredibly deadly. When they get crazy, they grow HUGE. It was suddenly a mad dash for the door, a fight for your life. People all over the school heard the commotion and ran, too. It was a chase all around the neighbourhood, until finally we saw someone. He had a black robe on, red pants, black boots and black hair. In his left hand he held a long stick with a point on the end. He pointed the stick at the steel wool monsters, and they went into the air, and couldn't get back down. The man in the robe looked at everyone and said in a loud voice that seemed to come from everywhere at once, "I am the Lord of the Steel Wool Monsters. They have wrecked some of your houses, but I re-built them. They have left their gas around this neighbourhood, and I will blow it all away. They kidnapped some of the people of this city…” He paused, “...but unfortunately I have not gotten them back. The Steel Wool Monsters keep their victems with them at all times." He pointed up at the Steel Wool Monsters, and sure enough there were kids and some teachers being held onto by the monsters. And my heart dropped when I saw Ayla, struggling to get free. I suddenly didn't want to be away from her, and I needed her. I was to take care of her, and I wasn't. Suddenly the monsters began to float away, and I started screaming out. "NO! You can't take her! She is so young..." It was no use.

It was no use. They were floating faster away. The Lord of the Steel Wool Monsters looked up. "No! I will get them back. This can't be happening!" He used his stick and waved it around, but all I could think of was Ayla. I thought I would never see her again, ever. But then something amazing happened. I saw her coming down…

The Lord was waving his stick around and around. They were coming back! My sister floated back down, and I caught her. I knew I never wanted to leave her or take her for granted again. Finally The Lord of the Steel Wool Monsters looked back at us. "You see, these monsters aren't just here to cause trouble. They only make us appreciate each other a little more." And with that, he jumped back up into the sky, taking his monsters with him. I'll never forget his parting words, and I think other people never have either. Ayla is now one of my best friends as well as my sister, and I'm so glad to have her.

P.S. I don’t have a sister, but I want one. I made up the name Ayla.

THUD! What was that trembled Rascal, a little plump squirrel. Thud, he herd it again but this time it was a little louder then he herd a slurping sound for a second he thought it was Miss Harvey the person who lived above him eating her famous soup and she was jumping it was so good. Finally, he was able to build up enough courage to look out of his house and he saw the Woodpeckers a building and renovation company that was run by a family of woodpeckers. They were a lunch break of beetles and grub
out of the tree, and that did not look very tasty to Rascal, so off the kindness of his heart he made them a acorn souffle that smelt amazing! and when he gave it to the Woodpeckers the they each took one bite then looked at each other nodded and said "would you like to be are cook!" Well Rascal was amazed by the offer and took it right away so every day from now on he works as the chef for the Woodpeckers.

Legends have known that a steel wool from a legendary warrior have lost. Who ever finds it has the power of the warrior. In year 2180 a guy named Kaldo loved to find things from back in time. He is a science genius. He made a time machine that only goes to 2014. When he went there he said WOW! School in 2014 is wierd. ( the school was hillcrest elementry. ) he went on divison 4s website for know reason. He knew about the steel wool and he saw the picture of steel wool in a microscope. He used his detector to find who found it. I found him!! Kaldo screamed. His name is Cookielover ( Yup you are in my story! ) Kaldo is coming tomorrow morning to that school to steal the steel wool to get powers. They took a look inside the body, after moments of silence, the doctor finally said "this man will...."
"Their is no cure for this man, he will die soon" screamed the doctor over the noise of the crying women. "There must be something you can do" the women said. "Unfortunately I can't" said the doctor. "Here look inside" said the doctor. The women peered through the glass and looked inside just to see a silvery rusty coloured object that represented a terrible disease called deather. This disease will kill you within 48 hours of being diagnosed with it. Doctors gave not yet found a cure for this. First you will feel a terrible pain in you lung area, then you will feel sick and dizzy for long periods of time, last you will find yourself passing out often. If you ever experience these three things within a 24 hour period, please see a doctor immediately. The woman started to cry as her husband Jhon is going to die any hour now. Thankfully not a lot of people have this silvery rusty colored object nrar their lung, but it can happen to anyone.

Once upon a time there was a gorgeous princess named Delilah. Delilah had shoulder length brown hair, Stunning green eyes and the happiest smile you have ever seen. Delilah has always been brought up as royalty but she always wanted to help people by finding new discoveries. One day she was talking to the scientists daughter Amber. Amber had dreamed about being a royal princess since he day she was born. Sadly she was just the scientists daughter. Dozens of villagers thought that Amber and Delilah looked like twins, but no one dared to tell the royalty that their daughter looked like a simple villagers daughter. As Delilah was talking to Amber she heard the villagers whispering to one another saying how they cant believe the resemblance between the two. This gave Delilah an idea. If she and amber agreed to be the other person for one week they would both see what it was like to have their dreams come true. Amber would be able to see what it was like to live like a royal princess. While on the other hand, Delilah would see what it would be like to help the scientist look through the microscope and find crazy cures for horrible diseases. As Delilah explained her plan to Amber it seemed more and more flawless. After one week of planning they did it. Delilah and Amber switched lives. As Delilah was looking though the microscope at a disease she noticed something weird. It almost looked like a rusty piece of metal. After a while of examining it and writing every single little detail Delilah showed the Scientist. The scientist was so proud he gave what he thought was his daughter a big hug Because she had saved one third of the villagers by finding a cure to this crazy weird disease. In the mean time Amber lived her life of being a royal Princess and made lots of difficult decisions that greatly helped all the villagers. After what felt like forever Amber was tired of being known as royalty and went to Delilah to switch back. As she was talking to Delilah she noticed that the way she was acting was different Delilah slouched and was acting like she didn't even care! Amber then turned around And walked back to the castle to live the rest of her life as a non slouching and respectful Princess.

Well your looking at a new mircoscophic bug that is like a tick and goes on animals but if it goes on you it will kill you within 24 hours, if you don't get a rare medicine, however when it goes on animals you haves to shave your animal completely and put on a special shampoo and the animal goes on antibiotics. So make sure you or your animal does not get it.

A long time ago, on a sunny day, there was a mouldy rotten carrot named Jim. He stood out at his school because EVERYONE in his school was non-organic, and he was organic. The reason he stood out for being organic was because organic vegetables rot faster than non-organic vegetables. Jim had wrinkles all over his body, mould on his face and between his toes, and he looked like he was 52, when he was really 12. Jim was made fun of everyday, until something happened that changed his life. He was on his way to school when a scientist picked up this specimen and examined him under a microscope. The scientist did an experiment on Jim that turned him into the cleanest, most good-looking carrot ever! Then the scientist ate Jim.

Yum cheese that looks so cool through a microscope wait is that really cheese no it isn't that is steel wool. The microscope is so cool you can see really small things so close up sometimes you will not believe your eyes it is so cool so think twice of what you predict

There is a girl her name is Trixie. Trixie was once walking down the road and she found this weird looking type bug thing. It was brown with silver lines all around it. She decided to pick it up and take it home. The next day she was on a walk playing with the bug and came across a sign that said this.

***ATTENTION***
There is a new bug in town!! It is called the luger. If you see it, it has a bunch of silverish lines around it and it is brown in the middle. If you ever come across it than you have to make sure that you DO NOT touch it! If you do touch it you will burst into flames after 10 days. If you do touch it you need to sit in a tub of milk mixed with tomato paste for 10 hours immediately.

She dropped the bug and ran home. She went into her house and saw her brother. "Timmy!" She said "Where's mom!!" He pointed to the backyard. Trixie ran to her mom and told her what happened. Her mom gave her the bath and yes she did sit in it for 10 hours. After that she got out and saw her brother laughing.
"Timmy what is so funny!?!?"
"You fell for the trick!!" Said Timmy
"What trick??" Trixie was getting mad.
"That poster and the bug they were fake!!!" Said Timmy, laughing
Trixie was really mad. But she was satisfied when he got grounded. The End

One day people at Hillcrest Elementary wanted to learn some stuff about science! So they begged the teacher soo much he said you guys are soooo annoying.... so FINE. The whole class said yay!!! and so, afterword's the teacher had another boring day till after lunch time. during the lunch break the teacher went to go and get some microscopes that the school had bought earlier when the school opened. After lunch the class started using and examining the microscopes with different objects like hair, grass and even fishy crackers! The whole class had cool objects and ways they looked at there object's, Although one SUPEREPICKIDNAMEDATVBOY once said "Look at mine" And the whole class looked and said WOW! It is a piece of paper with a tiny little dot of bacteria on it. The whole class thought it was cool other than the teacher because he thought it was lame. He said that anyone could do that. and the whole class said pfffft! "you try it" so he tried it and all he had was a white piece of paper. So after all of the big discussion about the paper ad bactiria thing he said "well ATV BOY you are actually really "SUPEREPIC" so, you will have your picture of what ever you want on the class website. So ATV BOY chose a piece of steel wool! He got a good clear image of it and said "There". Take a picture of that! So it got onto the blog and with a heading asking what the image was of. It was a cold winter day at the research lab at Edmonton, when suddenly 2 scientists had discovered a new disease! It looked like an ant with it eating some sort of fur, the scientists called them, Genobiosects. They examined these Genobiosects and noticed it eats lice! They wondered if it was a good thing or was it a bad thing? They started adding samples of toxic, water, soda and much much more! They finally found out what they do not like at all! Before that happened, one of the scientists working at the toxins had gotten this Genosect, it was a very harmful bug is what they noticed! What also happened was that the Genobiosects suck in your blood too! But the worst, it spreads to have a much more bigger ecosystem as lot lays eggs once fed on your blood! What will happen next to the scientists? What will they do to the Genobiosects?

People run helplessly from the know microscopic bug that threatens the human race it self! It all started about a month ago, a student at Hillcrest was wondering why people were getting sick. This student was genius! So the student thought to look at the grass to see if anything could be there. The student carefully look and saw this copper coloured bug with sliver hairs sticking out. As most would the student check google, nothing like that has been found. The student thought in silence trying to figure out what to do. After about an hour of thinking the student went to the government. At first they laughed at what they thought was a foolish child but then they realized this is the thing that making everybody sick and there is no cure. Every scientist including the student were trying to find a cure or anything thing about this thing. All they could find out is that it is found in every place on earth. After about a week of searching and about a third of the population sick and dying, they had to tell the people of earth. Panic, screaming, crying, and sadness took over. Scientist still trying to find a cure. The student was helping then finally he thought of something. Were did he find it on? Grass! This bug effects everything but grass and grass eating animals. He told the scientist and they were willing to try anything. The told everyone to eat grass. They fed it to the sick and dying. They were cured! People started eat grass now, everyone who eats grass is cured and safe. The student thought how can such a small thing save the world?

There once was a scientist he was the greatest scientist of that time his name was Dr.Ehrlichmann . He travels the world to discover new things and help science/the world. One day while traveling in Russia he came across something new and peculiar so he took some and went back to his temporary lab. There he put the specimen under his microscope,he dicovered new organisms he had never heard of or seen before,so he started studying it and e experimenting on it. He then eventually discovered (by experimenting with some cancer and Aids samples) that this brand new specimen was the cure for cancer and aids. He named it: Heilung
P.s: I know ichigo said it was the steel wool for soapstone but I wanted to make a different story, the type o story I would have done if indie not know that

The scientists had done it. They had found a cure for the new disease. But it was spreading rapidly. To fast for them to stop it. Everyone was turning into huge green monsters that eat humans. Half the people on earth we're going to die from the disease the other half will die from being eaten. No one will survive unless they stop the disease at its source. Mars. But all the space agencies had been taken over by monsters. Except for one. Cheepo space agencies. They flew hot air balloons into space that are horrible quality. But they had to get up there somehow. When they got to Mars they were captured by the head monster. Shabalaba. Shabalaba, was the first creature to get the disease and sent it to earth. But if he was restored back to normal everyone one could survive. They stuck a needle in its leg. All of a sudden it fell to the ground screaming as it was turning back to whatever creature it was. As the scientists whatched in terror they found out he was no alien. He was the head scientists son who had run away 20 years ago. But as soon as he saw his father he....

Here we are in the year of 2824, the year that changed everything. Millions are dying in front of us from a disease called idioticmonstroses and this disease is no ordinary one. This is the most terrifying, disgusting, but funniest sickness ever! But everything changes when a man named John (who has idioticmonstroses) fined's something in the ocean.
John was swimming in the ocean minding his own beeswax When all of a sudden he found a piece of rusted metal. the rusted metal cut him and his sickness went away the next day. most of his friends had idioticmonstroses and he cut them too to see what happend. They all had the same results, free of the sickness. So John took the metal to the hospital and it cured the whole east wing! So they scratched everyone who had idioticmonstroses but next month everyone the scratch had stupidmonstroses!
Side affects of idioticmonstroses are craving to do idiotic things, suicidal feelings, runny nose and vomiting.
Side affects of stupidmonstroses are writting story's, going to school, learning, and eating.
