MOSAIC TILE MIRRORS

Today, students learned how to use a trowel, putty knife, and thinset/mastic to stick their tiles onto their wooden mirror frames. If we have time tomorrow, we will about ratios in math and use this when we mix our grout for our mosaic mirrors. Watch this video to build your background knowledge to prepare you for the next step in creating your mosaic mirrors!

Today we stuck our tiles onto the frame from IKEA that Mr. Hong provided us with. We learned what we needed to do in order to complete it. Would you like to know? Here's how; (1) Get your design that you want for your mirror, (2) if you haven't already take a picture of it and then take the tiles off, (3) get some thinset/mastic and a trowel and put it on the mirror, (4) spread the thinset/mastic evenly so that you cant see the mirror and not to much of it, (5) put the tiles on in the design that you made, (6) once you've finished putting the tiles on, let it dry for 30 minutes to an hour. That is how you apply the thinset/mastic to the mirror or whatever you are tiling.

Today we used thinset which is also called mastic, to stick our tiles on. All our tiles look pretty good. I'm going to tell you how we did It!

First, make sure to have your workspace clear. Put all unnecessary items away, you don't want your things to get dirty! Also you might want to put paper towel on your workspace to keep your desk clean.

Secondly you should roll up your sleeves. This will help your cloths say clean! Now we're done with the preparation, its time to do the tiling!

Third, scoop the mastic on to the trowel or putty knife. Put the mastic on, and try to smooth it out as evenly as you can. If the black (or the colour of the mirror your using) shows through. Then it means that you added to less, and you should add more mastic. On the other hand try not to add it to thick.

Fourthly stick your tiles on. Pick up your tile and place it on somewhere on the mirror, and push down gently. Repeat until your design is finished. Make sure to space the tiles evenly, so when you put the grout, the lines look even.

Finally place your mirror in a safe place where it won't get damaged, and wait! This is how you apply mastic or thinset to mirrors!

Do you know how make a mosaic tile art? The steps are not that hard. Making the art takes time and patience, and I will tell you what to do.

First, do a rough draft on what you want your mosaic art design to look like. You can always adjust it later if you want.

Secondly, get the real tiles to make your mosaic art design. Put it on any board or surface to want. Adjust it based on the design of your draft. For example, a pattern in your draft can not be made, so you have to adjust the pattern.

Next, put on some tiling cement/glue. Stick on the tiles in the pattern you want them to look like. Make sure there is a little space between the tiles so you can put grout in it.

In conclusion, this is how you make a mosaic tile at. It xlcan be nessy some times, but it is worth making.

Today during art, Mr. Hong taught us how to use the thin sense and make sure our tiles stick onto the IKEA mirror. There are some steps that I am going to tell you and it's not hard!

First you wanna draw a rough draft of the design you want on a piece of paper. It might change later but you just wanna get a idea of what you want and get a feel.

Once you've done that we can go to the second step. Get your tiles and put your design you've made on the mirror tile. Make sure that you use the elements of art to make sure it looks right. For example make sure you space out your tiles evenly.

Finally, stick your tiles onto the mirror tile with thin set or mastic. Before putting the thin set on, put masking tape over the mirror so no thin set will stick onto the mirror. You have to make sure that when you put the thin set on, smooth it out and there is no chunky spots on it. Then you can put your design on and wait for it to dry. There should be a space in between the tiles because you will have to add your grout on later.

That is how you make a tile art. ;)

I think it would be safe to assume that a large amount of people don't know how to stick tiles onto a wooden surface. I for one, did not know how to do this until we started working on our tile mirrors. If you really want to know, then I guess I will tell you how to do this, since you're so eager learn about it.

First of all, you need some sort of surface made out of wood. Make sure that you know where you want all the tiles to go before you apply the thinset. According to my dad, it's also commonly referred to as mortar. So make sure you get yourself some thinset/mortar/mastic, it doesn't matter what you call it as long as it's the right stuff. Once you have your surface and mortar at hand, you can begin the fun/stressful part.

Using a trowel (the tiling type, NOT the gardening one) or a putty knife, take a medium sized glob of mortar from the bucket and slap it onto the surface of whatever you're tiling on. Spread it out evenly around the whole surface until you can't see through it, but make sure it's not too thick. Use more mortar if you need to. The mortar should be thick enough for the tile to get lightly pushed into it, just hard enough that some mortar from underneath the tiles squeeze out from it.

If you have gigantic and really thick tiles, then of course you need a lot more mortar to keep it in place. I found that the hardest part was spreading out the thinset and making sure it was all evened out. The edges just refused to be covered up completely. So make sure you don't follow my path and put too little thinset around the edges and let those tiles become loose. Immediately after you cover the whole surface in mortar, you begin sticking the tiles onto the surface. The mortar will dry after about 15 minutes so you have to work fast. Really fast and precise. Now you let the mortar dry.
That's all so far because we haven't moved on to putting the grout in between the tiles and polishing them.

In conclusion, tiling is really fun but also demands a lot from you. You need to be careful that you don't make any mistakes. Lucky for you, you now have my wonderful advice to add to your current knowledge!

Most people think mosaic tile art is hard, but that’s not to truth, if you don’t believe me, try it yourself. All you have to do is get the tiles you want, and get mirror. That’s simple, however that’s only the starting materials you need. Now order the tiles on the mirror in your desired way after you crush the tiles. After you finish your design, get some thinset to keep your stable your tiles by using it like glue. Also leave some space inbetween the tiles. Next, you let it dry and cover the whole thing in grout and make sure the spaces are filled. Now you just remove the grout covering the tiles. Boom! Your done! Now enjoy you masterpiece, but be aware of some things. Like one think that was hard for me was spreading the thinset on my mirror, because some spaces have holes and you can’t really cover it. So the starting of spreading it is important. Other than that I think I’ll be fine.

Today in class we all started to place our tiles an finalize were each tile would go.

First we started spreading the grout, if you do no what grout is, grout is a dense fluid which is used to fill gaps or used as reinforcement in existing structures. But we used grout to reinforce our tiles and keep them in place. When I started spreading the grout I had a little bit of trouble but in the end Mr. Hong help evenly spread my grout.

Next we started placing our tiles on the not yet dried grout. This process took a surprisingly short amount of time compared to the amount of time of just planning out were to place the tiles.

Lastly, we were to place our finished tile art pieces under the smart board to dry. Our tiles didn't take a large amount of to dry but nonetheless, it took a decent amount of time.

In conclusion, I thought that this project was really fun and i look forward to put the finishing touches to my tile art.

Our class did tile art today. I'm going to tell you steps of making mosaic tile art.

You first need to plan a design. The second step is to put Thinset/Mastic on you mirror frame. After spreading the Thinset/Mastic around your frame, put the tiles on the frame. Next, you must wait for the Thinset/Mastic to dry, once it dries, then put grout on the frame.

That's the steps I took to make my tile art.

If you want your design to be even better, you can add many different colours so it looks unique and colourful! Adding too much, however, can result in a catastrophe.

Secondly, you need to create your design to life. Plan the layout using what tiles you have. You may need to break tiles in the process. Today we applied thinset to our tile art masterpiece! It was really messy but fun. You may be wondering how did we do it? Well first put masking tape on your mirror so it doesn`t get dirty. Now we take off the tiles off our wooden frame. Next take a trowel or putty knife and put it into the thinset in the bucket. Scoop up a little blob of it and smudge it on your wooden frame. Use the trowel or the putty knife and spread the thinset to make it even. Make sure it is not too thick or too thin. Finally put the tiles on the thinset on your frame and let it dry. There you have it, a mosaic masterpiece!

But there is one challenging thing I noticed while doing this. It is sooooo hard for me to make the thinset even! Most of the time I make it too thin. But other than that it was fun doing this project.

today our class did tile art on ikea mirrors that we got. i'm going to explain how to this set/mastic your wooden mirror!

First of all, keep in mind that thinnest is like chunky glue. Wear some old clothes because you don't want to get it all over your grad hoodie *ahem* charlie, shannon.. ok the first step is to have your design set and ready to go because if you just stick the thinset on and then freehand, your set up to make mistakes. Next, you need to take some thinset and spread it evenly around the surface you are sticking the tiles to. to help you do this more efficiently, we use a tool called a putty knife or you may know it as a trowel. a putty knife helps you evenly distribute the thinset around the required area more efficiently. The recommended thickness for the this set, is to be about half a centimetre. The final step is to carefully place your tiles in the place you want them. when doing this make sure your careful and you don't misplace them.

to conclude, i think that tile art is so cool and unique, but you need to be patient and careful!

Have you ever wanted to make mosaic tile art? well here is how you make one.
First, you need to make a rough draft of your design, you can make anything but make sure you can do the design ( since some tiles are harder to shape unless you break the tiles)
Second of all, you have to place your tiles on a wooden frame in your design, If later you found out your design isn't what you wanted you can always change it to something better.
Lastly you need to take your tiles off of the frame, and make sure you wear an apron or just try to keep your clothes clean. Once you have done all that , you need to get a little bit of the thinset and place it on your frame, If it the thinset ends up on the sides of you frame that's totally fine! and If you get thinset on your clothes simply get a towel and put some water on it and just try to get it with the best of your ability.
Tile art if super fun, but we all have our challenges so i'll tell you one of my challenges I faced during this project. My challenge was getting the thinset off my hoodie and my desk, It was kinda hard to get the thinset off my hoodie therefor I can't wear it anymore since It's very dirty.
Overall this was a fun activity and if I had the chance to do this again I would. This project taught me a lot about tiling and how to use thinset on a wooden frame.

oday, we learned how to apply thin-set/mastic to stick our tiles onto a wooden surface, in our case, it is a mirror surrounded by wood/ plywood.

This project is called Mosiac tile art, the idea was to have a reflection and around the mirror would be tiles that would most likely represent a picture or an artistic expression.

Firstly, to hold these tiles together or to make sure they don't fall out of order, we used grout or sticky material to stick the tile onto the wood. This included the need to use smearing tools to make sure that the grout was smooth and pretty before we put on our designs. First, we would grab and a handful of grout and spread it over the wood in whatever formation we wished. Then we would just implement our plan.

Secondly, we would clean up the class, simply because an accident was inevitable, someone must have made a mistake and we need help from a lot of people to have been able to fix the problem. And as a result of this we had around 1 and a 1/2 hour to work, and the rest of the day we would be doing other things or cleaning up our mess.

In conclusion, today was not so hard, considering the time given to finalize our project, in reality, this is a really cool idea and concept, try it at home, wait don't just have fun.

Did you think that tile was hard? Well its not, so I’m going to tell you three simple steps to tile.
Today we learned how to apply thinset to a wooden surface to put our tile on it. There are basically three simple steps to do it. First, take a putty knife and put some thin set on the surface you want to work on. Second, spread the thin set with the putty knife at an angle (make sure you don’t put too much/less thinset). Third, place your tiles and wait for it to dry (when you place your tiles, make sure to leave the same amount of space in between so that later on it will look good). I think the hardest part for me was to get an even spread all over the surface without getting too much thinset on.

Today we did tiling in class these are the steps for the trickiest part.

First get a putty knife and get some thin set on the knife after that apply the thin set to the mirror or whatever your tiling.

Second spread the thin set all over the surface MAKE SURE YOUR NOT PUTTING TOO MUCH!

Third apply all of your tiles make sure there evenly spread around now you have completed your tiling.

The hardest part for me was getting the thin set even on the mirror.

Have you ever tried tiling? You'd probably think it's hard and rather complicated, but it's very quite simple. First, you need to have a bucket of mastic and a knife spread thing. Next, you just scoop up a big of the mastic and spread it on whatever surface you're tiling with your knife thing. Make sure it's not too thick, but not too thin either. Finally, you just put your tiles on and wait for it to dry. One thing that I found was that it was very very messy, but also quite fun.

Oh no! I got thinset all over me!
Today, my class was working on our mosaic tile art. This art project is basically using all different types of tile to make a designed tile mirror.

For today’s lesson, we focused on sticking on our tiles with thinset. Thinset is also known as mortar, is an adhesive mortar made of cement, fine sand and a water-retaining agent such as an alkyl derivative of cellulose.

The first thing that we did was watch Mr.Hong demonstrate how to spread the thinset and setting the tiles on. Luckily, the thinset didn’t dry quickly so I had lots of time to work with my tiles.
At the beginning of today, I still wasn’t finished laying out my tiles. So I had to finish planning out my tile layout. As soon as I was finished, I was informed that we would have to take all the tiles off the mirror to spread the thinset on. I carefully took all the tiles off my mirror and proceeded to add thinset onto my mirror. while spreading the thinset, I was subconsciously making a mess. As soon as I was done, I looked down at my hoodie and it was practically white. I panicked and asked Kaelyn to help me wash it off. Luckily it came off with ease and didn’t leave a stain.
When I started placing down my tiles, I thought that it was actually really easy. The thinset made the tiles adhere well and I didn’t have to worry about my tiles falling off.

In conclusion, I learned many things today. First of all, I’m a clumsy mess, and how to apply thinset to a surface. Surprisingly the thinset part wasn’t as hard as I thought.

Have you ever wondered how people make mosaic tile art? Well I'm here to teach you how to make a mosaic tile art and there are gonna be a few steps.

First you should get out a piece of paper and draw what design you would like on your tile and you could be really creative with it or create different shapes or words. In my opinion this is my favorite part since it's just fun to draw out a creative and unique design.

After that get your materials and you could use different colours with different already cut shapes and that will make your design look more unique. You could also smash tiles to get different shapes. After that you could get your thinset and put it on your big tile thing with a mirror and place your tiles in the pattern you want. Now you know how to do the steps of making a mosaic tile art.

One challenging thing during this was putting on the pieces on thinset in the same way you did before to make it look the same. That took me a while to figure out since some pieces fit in perfectly and I couldn't remember which pieces went with which so i had to choose some random ones together.

Today in class we glued tiles onto a plywood mirror thing from ikea. We did this by using a cement kind of thing known commercialy as thinset. You probably dont really care about the process of glueing some tiles onto a plywood frame, but legally i am required to explain it. The first step is to grab a putty knife and just get a bit of thinset on it. Remeber thinset is a adhesive motar made of cement, fine sand and alkyl cellulose. basically it is cement so you dont want to eat it or snort it. Expecially as cellulose is thought to be a mild carcinogen so treat it like you treat sand but more carefully like sand with trace amounts of asbestos which can give you Mesothelioma just like that. step two is to spend a good amount of time spreading the thinset at around 0.5cm in height. step 3 is to place your tiles in the required fashion so that they resemble something that you want it to. then you let it try and then you grout it. the hardest part for me was arranging the tiles just like i did previously as things shifted and it ended up with less available room to put stuff onto

Ever wonder what fun art project you should do? Try mosaic tile art it’s fun and you’ll learn a thing or two
First off, you have to make a square paper and put a tiny square in the middle of it (the small square acts out the mirror) then you draw your design for the mirror
-important- Keep in mind you might make slight changes to your design when your actually making it on the mirror, you might not get the exact thing, I know because it happened to me.
Then, you get all your materials
Materials: tiles (various colours), ikea mirror, thinset, and tape (only if you want to put on mirror to keep the grout off it)
Now the fun and exciting part!
You can smash tiles to the shape you desire or use a tile cutter to make smaller pieces.
Then you apply the thinset to your mirror (the outer part) then you can really get creative and put the tiles on the mirror and create your amazing design
Challenging things that occurred during this for me was:
Creating a design
And not getting cuts
I got like 1 or 2 cuts but it’s all good
After your done you can keep it for yourself and display it or you can give it to someone as a present! Now you can sit back, relax, and start another art project.

Today we started putting thinset onto our mirrors to stick the tiles on. To complete it, you must:

First, get a bucket of thinset/mastic and a spreading knife proportional to your mirror.

Second, scoop a reasonable amount to spread across the entire area, make sure it’s not too thick or thin!

Finally, stick the tiles back onto the mirror and wait for the mastic to dry up.

One challenge you may encounter is that the thinset may get really messy, as I had splatters of it on my sweater after, although it’s quite easy to wipe off with wet paper. Even though some things may get messy and frustrating sometimes, it’s still a very fun project!
