Giving Feedback/Comments on Google Docs

Today, students were assigned homework for their Novel Approach powerful responses. They must give their partners constructive feedback (based on their peer assessment forms) over the weekend. They must do this directly on their peer assessment forms and directly on their partner's Google Document. They shared their documents with one another at the end of the day yesterday. 1.) MATH: Any unfinished work.

2.) LANGUAGE ARTS/NOVEL APPROACH:

Follow the instructions on your powerful response criteria sheet/peer assessment sheet and give your partner specific feedback that will help them improve their powerful responses.
Post any questions or comments you have about this process here.

3.) PAR:

In paragraph form (intro, 2-3 supporting sentences/examples, and conclusion) explain the importance of giving feedback.
Give some examples of types of feedback that help you learn and examples of feedback that doesn't help you learn.
Ask yourself, does telling someone they have nothing to work on help them improve? Does telling someone their writing is amazing actually help them make their writing better? Hmmmmmm. Think about what we have been talking about all year about feedback and learning.
Don't forget the givens: spelling, punctuation, grammar, capitals, sentence variety.
Give one students 2 things to work on to improve his or her work.

I think it's important to give feedback because everyone has different background knowledge as you for example: if I didn't know what was the average size of a shark I can just ask Jared because he has different background knowledge as me!! and he would be more likely to know. A other reason it's important while Ashley was looking at my powerful response I accidentally didn't know how to spell a certain word but Ashley highlighted it and wrote a comment on how to spell it so that's why it's important to give feedback because I didn't even notice that I spelled that word wrong but Ashley did so that's why it's important to always give feedback or I would of just left it there without even knowing!!.

I will be back to Edit and revise!!!.

In my opinion I think feedback is one of the most important thing in learning. Feedback is here to help you when you make a mistake to help your assessment to be even better. If we didn't have feedback some of work wouldn't have been as good. Say you made a mistake like this THE THE you wrote down the two times without noticing and it dose not show up as a mistake. If there was no feedback you might of left it with two the.

@ Shaan - Please read through the post and watch the video. Please follow the instructions given in class. Open your partner'a powerful response, highlight/select parts of his response you want to give feedback on and click on comment (in the top right corner) to give them specific feedback to improve his work.

The importance of giving feedback is use full, that is if the person who is giving you some is giving you real feedback. Sometimes reading someone else's work will help you improve better then getting feedback. For example when Mr. Hong gave me feedback I was like, "Woah I have a lot to work on." If you were assigned to give feedback to a piece of work and you said it was great there was nothing to work on, that was bull.

@ Chance - What colour did you highlight it in on Logan's Google document? To do this you would select the text on the google document and then you can change the colour. However, I'm not worried if you change th colour of the highlighted sections because your partner will be notified of Ben you give them feedback/comment.

@ Chance - I had a typo on my reply. I meant to say, " Your partner will receive an email after you give them a comment/feedback. " Rememember, highlight the evidence/specific text in Logan's writing and click on 'comment' in the top right corner to tell him something specific that he needs to work on.

I think feed back is very important. Feed back is important, because everyone has different background knowledge, using other peoplebackground knowledge allows you to revise your writing. Feedback allows you to make your writing better each time you receive feedback. Good feedback is something you need to work on. For example, spelling, Grammer, etc. Bad feedback is saying your writing is good. It doesn't tell you what you need to work on. And, that is why I think feedback is important.

Feedback (~‾▽‾)~

Feedback is an important information we can get from our peers. Like our friends, families, teachers, etc. You know why? Because, they might spot something on your work that you have to add to make it perfect (so that it'll be the same as the criteria sheet the teacher that gave it to you)! Anyways, it's also fun to get feedback so you can improve on your work and stuff.

Getting feedback from our teachers, parents, friends, etc. is an important part of our education here in school or at work or just anywhere. You'll spot your mistakes and you can improve those mistakes to make it better.

Feed back Helps because you can know what do improve on.
say you think you completed work you can ask some one to give you feed back, so you can improve on it to get a better mark.
Also Feed back helps you get better marks.

@ Ali - I admire your honesty. However, you will need to log into your gmail and access your partner's powerful response. You must all give them feedback/comments directly on their document. You need to use your criteria sheet as well. I guess you will need to do this when you return from home tonight. I hope you have have fun! ;-)

Peer feedback firstly helps by giving suggestions to help improve their work. Secondly it helps to fix your mistakes and make it better. Lastly it also helps by giving the student a better idea on what to do. I would want feedback because it can help me on what to do because I sometime make mistakes.

Importance of giving feedback
- The importance of giving feedback is really serious. Some people don't know how or what to do with what they're doing unless they are given feedback. Everyone needs feedback to what they're doing or they're gonna end up not knowing what to do or failing.

Feedbacks that help me learn
- Feedbacks that help me learn are the kind of feedbacks that actually make sense, and the kinds of feedback that is clear. For example, I had a project, but I don't know what to do next, or how I can improve on it. Someone gives me feedback that is like "You need to work on this, work on that, add some details, and make sure it's clear, and the spellings and grammars are right." Thats the kind of feedback I like and the kind of feedback I learn from.

Feedbacks that don't help me learn
- Some people are too lazy to make proper feedback, so they don't make it clear, and they just put random words that doesn't even make sense. For example, you had a project, and you didn't know what you would add to it, or improve on it. Someone gives you feedback that is like "Add this, oh wait what never mind lol just add this, and uhhhh that? Idk XD" that kind of feedback doesn't make any sense, and it doesn't help me learn.

Does telling anyone they have nothing to improve on works?
- No, it doesn't because they have a lot more to work on. It's like saying "Oh I don't care... I'm too lazy to give any feedbacks, sooo..."

Does telling anyone they're writing is amazing help them improve?
- No, it doesn't, because you're not even giving them any feedbacks! Complements don't help them improve on what they're doing. You have to actually give them clear feedback so they can improve on what they're doing.

Importance of giving feedback

Feedback helps the other person with their learning. If someone missed spelled something that could help or if they didn't us they correct punctuation or didn't put punctuation at all that could help them too.

Unimportant feedback

Imagine if someone forgot to add something that wasn't that important and you gave feedback on that, i wouldn't respond to that kind of feedback because it's not important.

Feedback is important because you can see all the mistakes you made and you get and another chance to fix all your mistakes that is what you call good feedback
Bad feedback is when people just say fix spelling and don't tell where or they just add stuff that are not even important.

Feedback is very important because if someone overlooks a mistake they can fix it. I don't personally like giving feedback but its important to change people's grades. Feedback can be used to help fix spelling mistakes,correct wrong data and a lot more.

Feedback is a term where you correct people from their mistakes and they learn from it. Giving great feedback and giving bad feedback have differences.

Bad feedback: not being specific
Ex: Wrong spelling, capitalize, and comma

Great feedback: Being specific

Ex:Capitalize Steve Nash's Gym because its a proper noun, put commas before quotation marks if someone is speaking, don't capitalize common nouns like Car or River.

So thats how you give feedback.

Its important to give feedback because you will be helping your fellow classmates get better at writing and your really helping the teacher with his work to in checking over your peers work. The type of feedback that doesnt help is when someones says its good and that there are no mistakes at all which is false because there is always a way to fix your writing and when you tell someone there work is excellent it doesnt help them because they will always think that and wont get a good mark if something really is wrong with there work.

The importance of feedback is to help a student learn from their mistakes,it also helps the students assess their there on work for the mistakes they made.Example:If a student make a mistake you won't say that it's bad because it doesn't help the students learn,but if you wrote that there was a mistake on paragraph 2.Also tell them what they spelt wrong and to read over your writing for mistakes.If you just say that a students work is all good it wont help them at all,it will just make them think that their work is perfect even when there are still more mistakes that are needed to be fixed.

example of good feedback: you did good but work on this.....
example of bad feedback:you did very good!
