NATIONAL TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION DAY

9/28/2021

Tomorrow is National Truth and Reconciliation Day. It is the first time in Canada's history that this will be a national holiday to remember and respect things that have happened in Canada's past. We are not proud of some of the horrible things that our government did in the past, but this is something that will help many First Nations' families start to heal. To honour the children who died at the residential schools, please do your part and wear an orange shirt tomorrow! Don't forget to watch this video for an explanation of what reconciliation is.

IMPORTANT:

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

Tomorrow is a day to remember the children who lost their lives at the residential schools. This is the first step in acknowledging, remember, and respecting those families that were effected.
REQUIRED: Watch this video on 'What is Reconciliation?'

LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a paragraph (intro/body/conclusion) on what reconciliation is.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro/body/conclusion)
2.) Explain what 'reconciliation is' based on your background knowledge and the posted
video.
3.) In your body, explain at least 2-3 points that help explain what reconciliation is. Include
examples from the video.
4.) Check for the givens (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure)
5.) Self-assessment - After you write your paragraph, check your work with the criteria
above and write one single sentence indicating if you met or didn't meet the criteria. If

Have you ever wondered what reconciliation means? Part of reconciliation is recognizing that non-indigenous people have harmed indigenous people in Canada. Some people believe reconciliation is the opportunity to heal a broken relationship. Reconciliation is making something acknowledged wrong, right. That's what reconciliation is to me.

Reconciliation is a huge part of acknowledging and putting a right to our wrongs. For example, if you got in a fight with a friend and hurt them, just saying sorry might not be enough. You need to change your behaviour to show them that you really are sorry, and want to make things right. You need to take action. Now, Canada is working to reconcile for all the wrongs that we did to the Indigenous Peoples. Even though we can't reverse all the harm and the hurt that they have gone through, we can still try to show how much we are sorry and how much we wish we could make it right. We can do this by changing our behaviour towards them and treating them like we'd treat everyone else: as equals. There is so much that we can do to show reconciliation, and make things right.

Do you know what reconciliation means and why it is important? reconciliation means, for example if you have an argument with your friend about something you do that annoys your friend and you say sorry but you keep doing the thing that annoys your friend, but to actually restore your friendship you need to change your ways and your actions. This is why it is important because when residential schools were allowed in Canada white people were treated fairly and indigenous people were treated like complete garbage. Reconciliation day is a major part in Canada! Why is it important? Well, it’s a way to honour the children’s and overcomes that have were in residential schools as well as the Indian residential schools as well! Now from this day on, September 30th is a national day is set as the day for the truth and reconciliation. With this opportunity, it’s a way to heal a crushed relationship between non-indigenous and as well indigenous people all through our Canada. Which I think that this is a great way to spread awareness, and a possibility that this can definitely help the future! One of our simplistic ways of showing respect is wearing an orange shirt! Reconciliation is when you try to bring peace again to two groups or individuals that had conflict in the past. “The restoration of friendly relations” is how some people describe it. For example, say you do or say something that hurts another person and you want to reconcile with them. Then you should make up for your wrong action with right actions to show that you truly accept your mistake. Just saying sorry shouldn’t be enough for the people you hurt to forgive you. Actions speak louder than words. In the past, Canada has done some things that have hurt the First Nations, like in residential schools. Long time ago I Canada people used to treat white people and other nation people differently, They would be rude and would have no manners if they were communicate to other nation but for white people they would respect them. The former prime minister did a historical apology to the indigenous people/people who went to the residential.
We need to learn about the unfair treatment happening to the indigenous people/ history. And we can find a way to make things right where everyone is happy.

What the word reconciliation mean? It means fixing a broken relationship with a group or even only a person. An example of it is when you did something bad to other people, apologizing might not be enough you will also have to take action to show your apology. In 1831 the first residential school in The Mohawk Institute in Brantford, Ontario. Stephen Harper-Prime minister of Canada in 2008, said an apology but did not take action. The First Nation people didn’t fully accept the apology. Now, people of Canada are trying to make the TRC to actually take action to apologize to all of the indigenous people. Overall, I think that the government did the right thing to make the TRC, that is truly what the word reconciliation means.

For example, like the video pointed out, if you get into an argument with your friend, an apology is given. Ongoing, you realize your mistake and you make up for it. Reconciliation consists of many areas. Of course, the government has to notice their wrongdoings in the past that will never be forgotten, but as individuals, there are many things we can do to participate and take action. For instance, reading and learning about residential schools, honoring and remembering the survivors and their families, and by showing our respect to the First Nations people, gradually there will be equality. You've probably heard the word reconciliation, but what does it mean? The indigenous culture was nearly wiped out a few decades ago when the government made residential schools. Children were taken away from their parents to residential schools and were forced to practice other cultures instead of their own culture. Our broken relationship with the indigenous people can not be easily renovated. But what could we do to try to restore the relationship? This is where reconciliation comes in. In simple words, it's like when you get in a fight with friends and later apologize and take action to restore your friendship, but at a larger scale and more serious. The current situation is the indigenous people and how to mend our relationship with them. It's not just saying that we are sorry but taking actions. Acts were put in place like treating them as equally as possible and giving them proper health care, education and not discriminating them because of who they are. Not only the government has to act but also us, we have to stand up for indigenous people when they are being discriminated against and spread the message. We can spread the message by celebrating orange shirt day. We are also learning a lot about indigenous people in school so we don't repeat history and make the same mistake again. That was what reconciliation means, and we should all move Canada forward and show respect to the indigenous people.

Reconciliation means in Canada is process reconciliation of having Federal government relationship with indigenous peoples.

With the indigenous people and acknowledging people to put our rights and wrongs.

People have suffered so much, and Canada has regrets from their decisions made in the past. We admit our wrongs, and have reconciled with Indigenous peoples, but let's be a little more specific with reconciliation. Reconciliation is basically when you want to be forgiven of your sins, just like when you get into an argument with somebody. Let's say after your argument, you apologized. That right there, would be an act of reconciliation. Of course, if you don't actually mean what you're saying, it wouldn't really be an apology. Reconciliation isn't just about apologies though, because it can also be about making amends, or realizing responsibilities. In other words, making amends could be changing yourself to become a better person, and by recognizing your responsibilities, you could build up a better relationship with your friend, or with any other person. Reconciliation is something everyone should keep in mind of, and even if the world is by far from perfect, it could just make us do more of the right choices in life.

Self assessment - I don't really know how to explain my mistakes, but once again, I should change up my words a bit.

People have suffered so much, and Canada regrets some of their decisions made in the past. We admit our wrongs, and have reconciled with Indigenous peoples, but let's be a little more specific with reconciliation. Reconciliation is basically when you want to be forgiven of your sins, just like when you get into an argument with somebody. Let's say after your argument, you apologized. That right there, would be an act of reconciliation. Of course, if you don't actually mean what you're saying, it wouldn't really be an apology. Reconciliation isn't just about apologies though, because it can also be about making amends, or realizing responsibilities. In other words, making amends could be changing yourself to become a better person, and by recognizing your responsibilities, you could build up a better relationship with your friend, or with any other person. Reconciliation is something everyone should keep in mind of, and even if the world is by far from perfect, it could help us do more of the right decisions in life.

Reconciliation is a word that means so meany meanings when you say it. Reconciliation means “to forgive someone and there actions”. Canada has been apologizing to victims and survivors of residential schools the government knows what has happened in the past it is a sad chapter for us all this is what I think of reconciliation. #everychildmaters

What does reconciliation means? It kind of means apologizing or restoring friendship. The orange shirt day of Canada is a day for apologizing to the aboriginal people, times ago Canadian people treated First Nations very badly, we forced them to go to residential school, speak English, forget their own language and culture. Treating the First Nations bad is one of the biggest black history of Canada. Orange shirt day is a reconciliation to aboriginal people, we now know that we were doing the wrong thing so now we will stand up for the First Nations because they're part of our country.
