Nature Walk and ART

Today, we started the day off by going for a nature walk through around the Langara golf course. Students were able to connect to the previous learning by identifying different species of plants and trees. It was also apparent that many students do not often go outside to play in nature. We look forward to doing more outdoor ed activities throughout the rest of the school year.

IMPORTANT: Any parents interested in volunteering for our camping trip from June 19th - 21st should complete this questionnaire. Please email Mr. Hong to let him know as soon as possible. We will be going to Camp Latona.

1.) MATH:

Complete pg 108-109.
Mark and do corrections at home. Ask question in class tomorrow.

2.) WRITING:

Essays are due on Thursday.

POST A RESPONSE:

Watch this video.
Write a paragraph and explain how you can be 'AWESOME'.
Include 2-3 examples of how you plan on being 'AWESOME'.
Include an engaging hook and a conclusion.
Self-assess and reply to your original post and make some edits/revisions based on the givens - spelling, capitals, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, etc.

I am awesome! I feel I am the top of the world. HAHA! I heard of it from the radio. However, I know being awesome is not due of how rich or smart you are. It is special. Being awesome, we can help someone they need help. Being awesome is to let others think you are special, in a positive way. I will be awesome. @Adrian, I really appreciate how positive you are in your paragraph! Some things I might point out are that you forgot to include 2-3 ways you plan on being awesome and that the second sentence doesn’t make much sense. Maybe you might want to put, “I feel like I am on top of the world!” Rather than “I feel I am the top of the world.” Because it sounds like you are saying that you are literally the top of Earth. Which doesn’t make much sense... Overall good job! :D

Things how you can be awesome are basically just doing you’re best and be good also don’t bully other kids or people because it’s very bad and might hurt the persons feelings. Also in order to be awesome is to always make sure your in time for school and being respectful which is basically the things that you can do that is respectful. If you see a person getting bullied then you might want to help them and by doing so the people that bullied that person either tell them not to do it again or just tell on them. Also you need to be aware by doing so for example if you think your doing something wrong and you think it’s wrong then don’t do it because you might end up getting in trouble. Overall you really just need to be respectful, be kind, self-regulate.

Wasn’t the nature walk just AWESOME? It was a bit cold, actually really cold, but that was because I didn’t layer up enough. My favourite part was when we made the trail, why? I liked it because (mostly) everyone was following the rules and following the trail. Some things that are required inorder to be awesome are:
-staying self regulated
-following the rules
-staying safe
-HAVING FUN (while staying safe)

If you follow my guideline then you will automatically become awesome. You can feel the awesomeness pulsing through your veins. But only if you follow my guideline, if you don’t well then you just aren’t awesome. You always have a choice, be awesome, or not awesome. Of course you know the right one to pick. BE AWESOME!

Everyone hates Brad and I was gonna do something not very pleasant if I kept watching that amalgamation this doomed society calls content. On to the PAR.

As the video had painfully described, an important aspect of life and education is the act of "being awesome". Having a positive outlook on life can greatly increase the amount of motivation one has, and it can help in improving their education. Awesome is an incredibly vague term, schools have abused the word to advertise proper behavior to children, and is part of what caused those cancerous videos. As google and other dictionary cites describe "extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear". As stated before, schools have used this word to a point of monotony, which has made the definition to this word somewhat vague. The form of "awesome" being used currently, is a form of accepting and enjoying life, to help raise education and positive behavior.

Being "awesome" cannot be easily described, as many meaning have been forged over the years. In the context of this piece, awesome means to be able to enjoy, accept, and understand aspects of life, and have a positive mindset. This is the most common definitions used in schools and advertisements, as it promotes good behavior which can help the students in their lives. Teachers promote being awesome as, enjoying life, trying hard, and being positive, which I cannot disagree with in the context of speaking. Enjoying what may be thrown at you, and arriving positive will not only help you become better, but it will brighten the atmosphere around you as well.

I generally am not too enthusiastic, the younger area of society has made me grow disgusted of my age, and the foolish trends that engulf society make it even worse. I feel disgusted when people around me might do something dumb related to a trend just because it is "popular" and squeeze it until it is dry. No one around me can help me, because they follow the same mindless trends as everyone else, it has been brought to point to where I go to school to see a teacher calling a baby shark remix creative. I am sure my life complaints mean nothing to anyone, and I am sure I will get criticized for this, but I have no interest in growing more positive. I have friends and they support me, then I might feel more happy and laid-back, but everyone has a dark side of their mind, mine is simply bigger than my positivity. I apologize for writing this instead of the proper PAR, and I wish for no one viewing this to show concern for me, I am happy the way I am.

TLDR: People suck and no one is an exception. Sorry for this mediocre PAR.

Can everybody be awesome? Each and every one of us has its own distinct traits and characteristics .Nobody is alike thus this will serve as a guide on how to be awesome in a different way that people might see in you but not to others. Awesome is a word that people use for people who are amazing in a way that makes them say wow look at him he's awesome.

One of which is just to be yourself and authentic in everything that you do .Don't be a fake for the sake of making a good impression to others and not to worry on what will other people would say. Remember, that we can't always please everyone no matter what .Allow yourself to discover your good qualities and passions and improve them better to excel among the others.
I am good in dancing and had joined dance presentations before and one way to be awesome in my talent is to attend dance classes to be the best I can be. Singing is next in line that I can be awesome by taking up some classes and be an international artist someday. Ramp modeling is what I've enjoyed doing when I was a year younger where I won in the school contest. Through some school activities, one can discover each strengths and will serve as a guide to be better and awesome.

Therefore, the most important person that you can convince of your awesomeness is YOU. If you have that self- confidence, others will see how awesome you are.

You can be awesome by making someone’s day. For example, giving them a compliment, or thanking them for something they did in the past. Some ways I can be awesome is being optimistic and having a positive outlook, reaching/finding my passions and dreams and facing my fears and overcoming them with confidence.

Have you ever heard people braging and ranting about how totally 'lit' and 'awesome' they are? Well, what does it actually mean to be awesome?

As dictionary.com describes, awesomeness means causing or inducing awe; inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear. There are many ways we can be awesome. One of the most obvious is respecting you, others, and the world. This means being positive and optimistic, everyday. Another way we can be awesome is treat everyone equally. Treating everyone equally is a very important thing. When you feel like being officous and mordant, think about how you would like it if someone acted the same to you?

Two ways I will be awesome are being upbeat and thinking positive things, as well as self-regulating myself, my noise-level and my environment.

In other words, there are many ways one can be awesome, and two ways I plan on achieving this is positivity and self-regulation. Remember: "Life isn't too short to be awesome." -Kid President.

Awesome can mean a lot of things. There are big things, small things, and the in-between things. But how do we be awesome, at all?

First of all, let me explain a few of the smaller things that you can do everyday. You could always be positive and not mean because sometimes it can really hurt others. Also, you can offer to help someone when they look like they need help. One last example is that you can include others in activities to make sure no one is left out. This is easy to do as long as people always do the right thing.

There are also big things, that are harder to do. For example, there are people who run food drives to make sure all people get enough food to eat. There are people who work as social workers to help people who might have a problem with basic needs and so on.

Lastly, the in-between things are those things that are not big, but not small. Every nice thing you do is in one of these groups, therefore, you should always try to be awesome!

Overall, my PAR says that everybody should try to be awesome by following other people's good examples and doing the best you can to others.

So whenever someone calls themselves awesome, it sounds like they're self-centered. I mean sometimes it comes off that way, but I don't necessarily think its a bad thing. if you think you're having productive day you should be proud. Certain times you should keep this to yourself, for example, if the overall mood in your surroundings were sad and weary most likely you would want to keep this thought to yourself instead of saying how great your day is and coming off as boastful. but if the overall mood is light and cheerful it's totally fine.
So how can you be awesome?
Well, in my opinion, being awesome is being your best self. There are a series of steps that I am trying to get into the habit of. (to be totally honest I made this up along the way)
1. Have a positive mindset.
So I do try to think on the positive side of things but I can't help but get into my bad habit of thinking about the worst case scenario. I like to look at the reality of things. at this age, I've learned that everything isn't sunshine and rainbows. a study shows that having a positive mindset can reduce stress and can even improve your health.
2. Be more determined.
to me, this is a pretty big one. I give up quite easily. I don't give up a fight. as more years pass I get worse and worse. I lose motivation. to overcome this, I'm going to start setting baby steps goals. This is because I already know that if I take big steps I’ll step out after a week. For example, I've started a goal a few months ago where I've started keeping my rooms clean and organized. I started out with my desk, then my bookshelf, then my closet, then after time I did my whole room!
3. Don't be too harsh on yourself.
instead of talking yourself down, try giving yourself a motivational speech in the mirror. Bringing yourself down doesn't give you the opportunity to be satisfied for once. I mean if you keep aiming higher and higher you'll never fully meet your expectations because they are unrealistic. So how can you be awesome?
Well, in my opinion, being awesome is being your best self. There are a series of steps that I am trying to get into the habit of. (to be totally honest I made this up along the way)
1. Have a positive mindset.
So I do try to think on the positive side of things but I can't help but get into my bad habit of thinking about the worst case scenario. I like to look at the reality of things. at this age, I've learned that everything isn't sunshine and rainbows. A study shows that having a positive mindset can reduce stress and can even improve your health.
2. Be more determined.
To me, this is a pretty big one. I give up quite easily. I don't give up a fight. as more years pass I get worse and worse. I lose motivation. to overcome this, I'm going to start setting baby steps goals. This is because I already know that if I take big steps I’ll step out after a week. For example, I've started a goal a few months ago where I've started keeping my rooms clean and organized. I started out with my desk, then my bookshelf, then my closet, then after time I did my whole room!
3. Don't be too harsh on yourself.
Instead of talking yourself down, try giving yourself a motivational speech in the mirror. Bringing yourself down doesn't give you the opportunity to be satisfied for once. I mean if you keep aiming higher and higher you'll never fully meet your expectations because they are unrealistic. Take the time to think about all your accomplishments, big and small, and think about how hard you worked to make it happen.

Have you ever wanted to be awesome? The first step to being awesome is to understand the meaning of awesome. According to Dictionary.com, “awesome” means to have a feeling of awe; inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence admiration, or fear. It also means to be extraordinary or remarkable. Since we know the definition, we can brainstorm of how we can be awesome. There isn’t any magic to become unique or awesome, but a good way to be awesome is to be ourselves. There are various of ways to be awesome and everyone has a different definition of being awesome. Most people assume being awesome means to be popular. However, the true meaning of awesome is to become who we are and have confidence in ourselves.

Above mentioned, the most significant way to become awesome is to be true to ourselves. Although we all want to be seen as a cool kid in the school, it is best if we be ourselves. It is usually bad if we ask others for opinions of ourselves since it makes us look needy. Instead of wondering how other people would think of us, we should decide if we like ourselves first. It is one’s nature to think how others think of us. However, there is no way to get everyone to like you, so just be ourselves and be awesome! For example, if someone says my shirt is ugly, I can choose not to listen to them because it is my personal style.

The second way to become awesome is to always be optimistic towards everyone. Everyone who is awesome tries to enjoy their life even when one is depressed. When we are down, we need to think positively. For example, when we get a poor grade on our math test, we learned from our mistakes, so next time we will study harder and gain better grades.

Thirdly, you can develop the skills you are not great at so you can be awesome at them. By doing this, you can improve your confidence.

In conclusion, these are the ways I can be awesome and I hope you take these tips into consideration.

AWESOME! Many things in this world are awesome.

We can all be awesome in a lot of ways. In our school, awesome means to be respectful to everyone, the environment, have respectful attitude, be OPEN-MINDED and SUPPORTIVE. Being awesome can also come in so many ways. Awesome cam be anything... it's based on opinions a lot of the times. I may think sushi is awesome and you may not. I might not think Taylor Swift is an awesome singer and you may. I can be awesome by simply being myself. I love art and music. Those things are awesome to me and based on the amount of passion I have for a lot of these things, that makes me awesome! My best friend is obsessed with Panic! At The Disco and that makes her awesome since I would have to agree that they're an amazing band. I love them too, though they aren't my top favourite band. I think all my friends are awesome. Anyone can be awesome.

AWESOME
What can do to be awesome, well you really need to know because as the President of The United States Of America said that life is to short to not be awesome- Mr, President!

There are so many cool different ways of being awesome such as showing everyone who you are and why you are here because that shows that very few have, or what your talent is you can be awesome at your talent, for example I really like History, and I can use my passion and talent in history and maybe drive or fly an actual WWll aircraft

My plan on being awesome is trying new things. Why do I think that trying new things is awesome because I get to learn different activites. I will also have some knowledge on all different topics.

Umm how to be Awesome?

You can be awesome in everything like holding a door for a person or play with a person who is lonely or sad. I am planning to help my family and trying new things. I want to kind and helpful to everyone in my life. I want to eat new food and activities too.
