Today, students worked on playing safely in PE following rules. The learning intention was, "I can play safely with others.' Overall, they made progress and during the game of dodgeball, fewer students were injured than on previous occasions. In math, students had a quiz on order of operations and then learned about percentages. I the afternoon they ended the day with some ADST and music.

In Canada, we are lucky. We live in a country with a democratic government, where everyone is an equal. However, it wasn’t always like this. All over the world, people were, and still are is some places, enslaved. In fact, about one and a half centuries ago, all of America finally abolished slavery. Prior to that, only Canada and the northern states of America had done so. Hence, the Underground Railroad was built. As a matter of fact, the Underground Railroad was not a railroad, nor did it have any trains. The Underground Railroad was a code name for a network of safe-houses in which slaves used to sneak into the northern American states that banned people from owning slaves. To elaborate, the agent went in disguise to plantations to tell the slaves when and where to meet the conductor. Next, the conductor was the guide from one safe house to another, where the slaves were guided by another conductor to the next safe-house, and so on. The slaves’ codename was not even the name of a role in a railroad station, but a thing. Their codename was “cargo.” Unfortunately, there was no way for the slaves to know if an agent would ever come, so sometimes one would travel without a guide. Songs were written and passed on to future generations, with hints embedded in them, to guide them instead. Unluckily, later on, people began to take free black Americans in the northern states back to the south as slaves. So, Canada became the new haven. Finally, in 1865, America abolished slavery once and for all. Like I said, we are lucky to live in Canada, not to mention all of Northern America. Still, we have the history of slavery. It was a horrible tragedy in our history, and we must reconcile. And we still have time to make the world a better place, for ourselves and future generations to come. As Harriet Tubman once said, “Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patient e, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world.”

Underground Railroad and slavery. You might be wondering how Underground Railroad and slavery are related. Underground Railroad has two meanings. The first one is underground train station, like the ones in New York. The second one is a network of safe places or houses for slaves to escape to the north. The slaves travel from one safe house or place to another, heading to north, until they reach north, where they can be safe and free from slavery owners. But to travel to the north is a hard thing for a slave, especially when travelling alone, since slaves are banned from learning and reading. Some people cannot be trusted and they might get information form you. People might tie you up and send you back to your slavery owner for a reward or keep you for their own. If you want to travel as a group, you have to wait for an ‘agent’ to come and tell you where to meet and when. Some slaves don’t even know there’s something called ‘Underground Railroad’. If an agent comes to your home, then you will go to the place the agent told you to go to. The Underground Railroad has their own codes and language. Their conductor will show you where to go and let you travel safely from one to another. Then, when you reach north, you will be free. Some slaves went to Canada, too. In conclusion, the ‘Underground Railroad’ has been helpful in different ways, and having this secret network, so slaves can be free and start a new life is a great idea.

What was the underground railroad? Well, the underground railroad was a network of people, African American as well as white, offering shelter and aid to escaped enslaved people from the South. It developed as a convergence of several different clandestine efforts. And the underground railroad worked by. First, an agent sneak into a plantation and then tell what time and what place to meet with the slaves. Once the slaves meet up at the place with the conductor, they would travel some where to change into new clothes because dirty clothes would be suspicious. After they changed they would go into a safe house and stay there until they get a new location to go to and with another conductor to guide them. This repeats until the slaves are finally in the north. This is what the underground railroad was and how it worked.

A lot of people would think of trains when they heard about the "underground railroad", but do you know a larger history behind this phrase? Long time ago when racism is all over the USA, a lot of black people are slavery. The slavers treated the slavery badly and separate their families and sell them to others. Most of the black people can't even read or write show they could not communicate with each other. In this time there is a net of people that support the slavery to be free formed an organisation called the Underground Railroad. This organization helps the Slavery and send them to the North which has less or no racism. You might be wondering why is it called the underground railroad when it's nothing close to railroads, it is because at that time if you are escaping then you'll cause big trouble so they coated the words and called the whole process underground railroad. There are two jobs, one is called the conductor which is the person who guide the Slavery to stations. The stations are homes or a safe place which can let the slavery stay and the slavery will slowly move from stations to stations and head north. Another job is called agents, agents pretend their slavery or slavers and tell the slavery when and where to meet and start the Escape. Both jobs are really really dangerous, if they got caught then they will either be criminals or just get killed. The underground railroad organization saved about 100,000 people. I feel very proud for the underground railroad and I am really happy that Canada didn't have that much racism and ended really fast.

Did you know that in the United States all the way back in 1619, slavery existed? Hundreds of years ago, when slavery was still happening, the Underground Railroad was a method how they could escape. The Underground Railroad is a network of different types of routes that helped enslaved people in the South America, to the North. It’s been estimated that only 100,000 people escaped whom used the UnderGround Railroads, but, how do they work? Traveling by this method wasn’t easy at all in fact, they had to travel night, and rest in the daylight. There were free people who were willing to help out the people who were enslaved, they were called “conductors”. Conductors helped giving directions, so the slaves would know where to head. They would repeatedly go to the next station from different passages, again, again and again. They would do this many times until they’ve finally made it to the free side. Did you know that one of the most well known conductors was Harriet Tubman? She helped those escape heading North to freedom.

The underground railroad was a set/group of safehouses that freed slaves from the southern US and transported them to the Northern United states and Canada. the underground railroad, what is it you may be asking yourself well ill tell you just that. in the early 1700ths there was slavery around the world and it was a very bad problem parts of the us even got rid of it because they realized why it was so bad but whatever thats besides the point so basicly the undergound rail road is not really a raid road it really just like a safe place to go through to escape slavery from the south to the north it was very dangerous though because if you got caught they would punish you severaly. now you know what the underground railroad is.

This is why the Underground Railroad was originally created. Now, you may be wondering what the Underground Railroad is. As a matter of fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with a railroad, neither is it underground. The Underground Railroad is actually a secret organization or network made up of people who helped African Americans who were kidnapped escape from slavery in the United States. The people in this organization set up a route that helped escapees travel to find freedom in the upper states and Canada. Keep in mind that many African Americans were illiterate, and some had no idea 'free states' even existed. This made it extremely difficult for slaves to find freedom. In the history of America, America has done something that wastes a lot of people’s energy. Americans kidnapped Africans from Africa so the Africans could do work continuously for the Americans. Only some states have Legal slavery, but the northern states prohibit slavery. If you tried to escape from slavery to the northern part, guards would k*ll you or beat you up hard. If you were a guard and help somebody escape, the high ranked guards would punish you by hanging your neck on a rope.

People from the Northern side don’t want People from the Southern states to be tired, so the Underground railroad was founded. Many of you would be confused as you think it would be an underground mine cart escaping but it isn’t. The underground railroad is basically a company that helps Africans Americans from the southern side escape.

There are 2 roles we definitely know that the underground railroad has which is mainly the agent. The agent is obviously supposed to disguise him/herself to go to a plantation with slaves so the conductor (second role). The conductor’s role is to keep the slaves safe and tell them when to escape and what route.

Slaves escape mostly at nighttime Saturday because they can have 2 days before the southern states make an announcement on Monday. Nighttime is better than daylight to escape cause guards would be unable to see you but that also gives you some disadvantages that you could also not see well.

Some slaves that Escaped would want to become an agent or conductor to rescue other slaves trapped, similar to multiplayer escaping video games as you escape you become a searcher to find survivors. Even if there were escaped slaves at the northern states, there was an announcement made in 1850 which is to obviously catch the escaped Slaves at the northern side.

That made the Slaves escape further to Canada which also had slavery before, but it was banned before USA had banned slavery. Escaping slavery could be easy if you were from the states that border the northern area but if you were at Florida it would take many days to escape but it’s a good thing that the Underground Railroad helped save people. In conclusion we should all know that slavery should be prohibited.

What is the Underground Railroad? You might think it is like a subway station, but in reality, it is an escape from slaves in the late 1700s. Slavery started in 1619 and most slaves were shipped to USA from Africa, and got delivered to slave owners. However in the late 1700s, the north think slavery should be banned, on the other hand, the south thinks it should not be banned. That is when slaves create something that is called the Underground Railroad, and slaves who escaped became conductors to help other slaves escape. Overall, I think slavery is a bad thing and you probably will too, because everyone should be treated with respect and equally.

Through the Underground Railroad. To start off, what was the Underground Railroad? At first, you may think it was a railroad underground. However, after a while, northern states began to disagree with slavery. But, southern states believed that slaves were great, and there was no need to abolish slavery. Because of this balance, the US government could not make a decision, and slavery continued. Slaves were mostly illiterate, and it was a crime to teach slaves how to read or write. Many slaves didn't even know that there were "free states." Slaves also had a high chance of losing their families. Their families could've been sold off at anytime and they would never see each other again.

This forced escapees to move further north and into Canada, which was considered "heaven" to the escapees. This was because at that time, while racism still existed, Canada had fully abolished slavery, and was a viewed as a "free country." While some returned south as volunteers to help with other slaves, many fled to Canada. After making their long and tiring journey to Canada through "stations," escapees were finally free and away from the grasping hands of the US government. In conclusion, the Underground Railroad was a series of safe houses, or "stations," that led slaves north, and to freedom. From learning about the Underground Railroad, we can conclude that slavery is a terrible thing, and it is up to us to make sure that these things never happen again.

“When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in Heaven”. This was a quote Harriet Tubman had once used. But, why is Harriet Tubman so important? The reason she is so important is because she was once was a slave but then soon was able to escape her “owner” and she went back to help other slaves to states where there wasn’t any slavery. But, the reason I brought up how she helped other slaves was because she had saved 19 trips in 10 years to help people who were once slaves. How was she able to help them travel through to the South to the North? Well, that is when the Underground Railroad comes in. The Underground Railroad was used multiple times to help people who were kidnapped and sent from Africa to be treated as a “slave”. As you may know they obviously couldn’t communicate as easy as it is for us to communicate like texting or emailing somebody but the “slaves” definitely found a way to speak with others. Now, these people that were treated as “slaves” were not allowed to read or write which would mean if you knew how to read or write it would be considered a crime. As I was saying, these people had used code words to help communicate with other slaves. For example, they would use agent as somebody who would sneak in as either a slave or owner and would tell them meet somewhere at this certain time. After that they would meet the “conductor” which helped them get through the Underground Railroad safely. Although, some “conductors” wouldn’t come and meet up as they thought that the conductor would be there. So, some had waited probably many days, weeks, or even years not knowing when a conductor would show up. Besides, once they noticed nobody was ever going to show up they would use the north star to help them get to North. Some of the people who had gone alone or without a conductor would not know if places they had stopped at were safe because the only thing they can really rely on was the North star. Therefore, people who were closer to the border would know if it was safe or not but if you’re in like Florida it would take a long time to be able to get past that border. Also, if you got caught you would be sent back or if you were caught helping the “slaves” you would be hung onto a rope until you die. I know, I talked alot about how the slaves were treated so I will talk a little bit more about how the actual Underground Railroad worked. To start off, the Underground Railroad was used as a place to help slaves safely get through to North although it wasn’t that easy. The Underground Railroad has helped many people escape slavery over the years and has saved them and brought them to a safer more welcoming place. So, in conclusion, the Underground Railroad was a helpful was to help people who were once slaves and able to find freedom in the end.

how did the underground railroad work?
Firstly, a person called an agent would sneak in to a plantation and tell a group of slaves that they meet a different person called a conductor to lead the slaves up north so they could be free but it would take days to get there. secondly, people would help slaves escape be letting them stay in your house, then you would find a different conductor to lead you more north and you would pretty much be doing this until you get far enough north were they enter the free state. Lastly if you live very far south then it would take you forever to get up north, but if you live pretty close to the boarder it would be easier to escape.
