Today, students started the day off with writing. They are working on their 5 paragraph essays. They have completed their self-assessments and many of them have made improvements to their writing not only based on their self-assessments and peer feedback, but also based on some teacher feedback. We are aiming to complete our final drafts by next Friday. Students will continue having 1 on 1 writing conferences with me from now until then so we can make even more improvements to their writing.

IMPORTANT:
1.) REPORT CARD ENVELOPES: Return envelopes if you have not yet done so.

Today we have been learning BEDMAS also known as order of operations. B stands brackets, E for exponents, D for division, M for multiplication, A for adding, and S for subtracting. If you don’t know how to do a BEDMAS (order of operations) I will show you an example.

If you have this question called 14+5x5-13 you would do the multiplication first because division or multiplication need to be done first as the letter DM is behind AS (adding or subtracting). As you multiplied it would now be 14+15-13. This would be tricky as you could do adding or subtracting at the same time but don’t let that fool you as unlike math questions without D or M but only A or S you could either S or A first.

But the truth is that in DMAS together need to do the left part first and then you would obviously get 19-13. Last but not least you could just easily subtract from 19 to 13 and the answer would be a 6. Even if I taught you 1 example it’s importantly that even if you have an adding or subtracting inside the bracket but multiplying or dividing in the outside you still have to add/subtract in the inside of the bracket and it should be noted that you should multiply/divide the answer you found inside the bracket Without a doubt.

But an example of these questions would be like this 4x(19-14)divide by 10. You still should remember that after the brackets do the D/M on the left first and then right. If it has a A or S on the left you need to do a D/M if you see one at the right besides Multiplication and Division are kind of harder than Subtracting or adding so this is the real reason why it’s ordered like BEDMAS.

In conclusion you should definitely learn what BEDMAS as it's the current school math we are learning and you could find some worksheets to practice on K2 learning.

First let’s start with the brackets
2.4 x 4 = 9.6.
Second will will add 9.6 + 2 = 11.6.
Lastly we will subtract 11.6 - 5 = 6.6.

BEDMAS stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. BEDMAS can be used in any question. For example, if you had the question 16x42+(8.5-3)+12 you have to go according to the order of operations and do the question in the brackets first. Then you do the division or multiplication, then the addition and subtraction. So 8.5-3=5.5, 16x42=672+5.5=677.5+12=689.5. Thats is how you use the order of operations.

For example, in this equation 16x42+(8.5-3)+12, you have to calculate according to the order of operations. First, calculate what is in the brackets. 8.5-3 = 5.5. Next, you do the multiplication. 16x42=672. Finally, you do the addition and subtraction. 16x42=672+5.5=677.5+12=689.5. That is how you calculate using the order of operations.

An example is 6.9+8.1x7.8-2.3, first we do the brackets first, the we start with multiplication and division, after that, we do the addition and subtraction. As a result, the answer to the question will be 67.78. This was an easy one, let’s try something harder. 4.182+ 71.9x69.69/ 789-(682-523)+95+7944, if you follow the steps above, you will get the answer 7890.53271. In conclusion, I think BEDMAS is a fun thing to learn it math, it might be hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, it will be very easy.

BEDMAS, don’t you think it’s very weird? Let me show you what it stands for. B means brackets, E means exponents, D means division, M means multiplication, A means addition and S means subtraction. These letters stand for BEDMAS. Now, I will give you an example. It’s 98*(65+29)*189*33. First, you have to add the numbers in the brackets, it makes 94. Second, 98*94 which makes 9212. Third, 9212*189, it makes 1741068. Finally, 1741068*33 makes the answer, 57455244. This is basically how you calculate a question like this. Follow the steps, like calculating the numbers in the brackets first. Then, whatever comes first, you calculate it. Just remember multiplying and dividing has to be calculated first before adding and subtracting.

Math has many units, but have you ever heard of BEDMAS? B for brackets, E for exponents, D for division, M for multiplication, A for addition, and S for subtraction. What does that spell? BEDMAS. BEDMAS is a unit in math and it is commonly known as the order of operation. Bedmas includes everything in the name. For example 4+2(3x2)-1. First you do the equation that is in the brackets. Why? It is because brackets are the first one in the word BEDMAS. Then you addition then subtraction, but addition first because it is before subtraction in the word Bedmas. The answer for that equation is 9 if you did the order correctly and your calculations were correct, you should get the same answer afterwards.

So, 2+(2÷1)x1-1.5=2.5.
That's how you use BEDMAS.

Have you ever heard of a math term called BEMDAS? Not worry, if you not know. B stands for brackets, E stands for exponents, D stands for division, M stands for multiplication, A stands addition, and S stands subtractions. Together it is BEDMAS. For instance, 4(5+8)+6. Firstly, according to BEDMAS, the numbers in the bracket should be solve before any other numbers. Then, it will be 4(13)+6. Secondly, solve 4 times 13, which is 52. Carrying on the equation, it would be 52+6. Lastly, adding 52+6 would be the last step. The answer to the question is 58. Now you learned how to solve a question with BEDMAS.

The equation problem is “2+(2 divided by 2) x2 1.5” as i said the number with brackets should solve first so 2 divided by 2 is equal to 1 and next you should do the multiplying instead of addition because on BEDMAS multiplication goes first. So since our answer from 2 divided by 2 is 1 next we have to multiply 1x2= 2 then you can add 4 to 2 so you will have 6, so you have 6 now the third step is we have subtract 1.5 from 6 will be equal to 4.5. Have you ever heard of BEDMAS? It's an abbreviation that represents the steps to solving an equation. BEDMAS stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. To calculate the answer correctly, you have to follow the order above for their calculations. Your calculation will most likely be wrong if you don't follow the orders of operations. Brackets are the parentheses around expressions, you have to solve the expressions in the brackets first. For example, "4*(3+4)", you have to do"(3+4) first. However, without brackets and when the equations are just multiplication, division or if it's addition, subtraction, you do the equation from left to right. After brackets, you will do exponents, you have to simplify all exponents to calculate them. Exponents are fairly similar to multiplication, exponents are just repeated multiplication. Division and multiplication come in before addition and subtraction, you do whatever comes first in your Equation. For example, "3+7*8" even though the addition comes first, orders of operation tell us that you have to do the multiplication before addition, so you do 7*8 first. Addition and subtraction come last, you do them after brackets, exponents, division and multiplication. Addition and subtraction are the same concepts like multiplication and division, you do whatever comes first. Lastly, BEDMAS can be a bit confusing sometimes, for example, the order BEDMAS has a division in front of multiplication, but that doesn't mean you divide before you multiply, you do whatever comes first. How do you do BEDMAS? Well, to understand how to do it, you need to know what it stands for. B for brackets, E for exponents, D for division, M for multiplication, A for addition, S for subtract. This is also the order we will have to do BEDMAS. To explain how to do BEDMAS I will have to show you an example, so let's say you have to do 3 x 5.4+(3.2+4.6÷2). First of all, you need to do the question in the brackets, but since there are a addition sign and a division sign you do the division question first because in BEDMAS division is before subtraction. Now we did that we have 3 x 5.4 +(3.2+2.3) so we add the factors in the brackets, and we have 3 x 5.4 +(5.5), then we do the question without the brackets that is 16.2+5.5 which equals to 21.7. Now you know how to do BEDMAS.

What is BEDMAS? BEDMAS is an acronym that stands for brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. To follow the order of operations in the BEDMAS method, there is a certain order you have to follow. To further explain, let's use the equation 7+(2-0.2x0.2) as an example. Firstly, if there are brackets, you have to solve everything in there before you move on. Secondly, solve any questions with exponents. Thirdly, solve all of the division and multiplication questions. It doesn't really matter which one is first, as long as you do those two. Lastly, if there are any leftover numbers to add and subtract, go ahead and do that. You should always go left to right while solving these equations, not including the times where you skip numbers because you have to for example, do multiplication in the middle of an equation. To solve the example equation, again, we would first solve the part with the brackets, by multiplying 0.2x0.2 which would equal 0.04, and subtracting it from 2 which would equal to 1.96. (If for example, the part where you subtract is before the multiplication, just do the multiplication and then subtract the product from the other number.) Lastly, for this equation just add up the 7 with 1.96, and you get our answer, 8.96. If you couldn't tell already, BEDMAS is a really useful way to not only solve math equations with multiple steps, but get correct answers.

The order of operation, one of the most important things in math calculation. How it works, you may ask? Well it is quite simple once you get the hang of it. The six letters in the order of operations "BEDMAS", it means how the order should be like. B stands for brackets, whatever math calculation you face in the future if there are brackets, you calculate whatever is inside the brackets first. The E stands for exponents, that means you do exponents next of course. Exponents are when you have a number like 3², you need to multiply the number by itself that amount of times, in this situation we do 3x3 is 6. The D stands for division and the M stands for multiplication. They both work in the same step, from left to right first come first serve. Last but not least, the A and the S. A is addition and S is multiplication, the are also in the same step. From left to right first come first serve. And that is how you do questions using the order of operations!
