Constable Ryan

Today, we were lucky to be visited by Constable Ryan of the VPD. He gave us a presentation on pedestrian safety. He taught us what to look for, how to be safe, and some things we can do to stay out of harms way. It gave our students a refresher on how to stay safe in the day of distracted driving and distracting walking. Later, we worked on paragraph writing, factor rainbows, and multiplication arrays. Students are all looking forward to the evaluations on Friday for LA/WRITING and MATH.

IMPORTANT:

Well, the easy answer to that is that you’d probably stop! Whenever crossing the streets or even a highway, always stop and look both directions to see if there’s any vehicles coming your way. Some tips when tossing the road is, always walk on sidewalks, wear bright clothing during a dark night, make eye contact with the driver or whoever is in the vehicle, watch for vehicles turning and most importantly, staying alert! Many accidents happen during nights, so it’s a great idea to we’re neon clothing’s, or even bring a glow stick wrist band with you! It’s a smart idea to use these knowledge whenever you cross the roads.

Many car accidents happen all around the world. Many unfortunately pass from these incidents, and that’s why we need to learn about the basics when it comes to crossing a street to stay safe! Whenever you cross a street, sidewalk or even a highway, and you happen to see a car turning the corner, what might you firstly do? Well, of course the first thing that comes to your mind is stop and wait until the car passes be you! But sadly, many don’t pay attention when crossing if it’s them fooling around, being competitive to see who can get to the other side the last second, or maybe not even paying attention! Safety rules when crossing any street is always try to find a sidewalk to safely make it to the other side, but if your on a highway..then it’s probably not the best idea to cross unless if there’s not a SINGLE sight of cars! Don’t talk to friends when crossing, always pay attention and stay alert if there’s any vehicles in your surroundings, make eye contact with the driver, and know when they slow down or stop! Many of these accidents happen just from this when people think the driver inside is stopping, but starts speeding up at the last second when they’re about the cross the road! So stay on a look out for that. These are mostly the basics to learn when crossing the streets, and now down to the tips! Simple tips when t cross the road is always look one your both sides, both left AND right. Most drivers come from the left side, so be aware on the happenings of that. If you ever see someone patrolling, always obey their commands! Wether if your in a situation like if you’re for work, or just a few seconds late to school, your safety matters the most! Lastly, follow traffic light signals when cording, since if you don’t pay attention and it’s a red light, that’s the last thing you want to happen! Our safety is the most important and matters the most to us, and that’s why we have to stay alert and safe!

@Kai- You did a good job with your paragraph! I liked the introduction sentence you added.
FEEDBACK- The part where you said “ If you don't look and you don't see any cars it would be safe to cross” doesn’t really make sense to me. You were also a bit repetitive because you were talking about “looking” for the entire paragraph.

Stop! Look both ways before crossing. Today I learned about pedestrian safety. The first step towards pedestrian safety is to stop and look both ways. Don't just walk and then look both ways, stop and look. You may not know if a car is coming and if the car doesn't see you then you could get hit. The second step is to look both ways. You must always make sure to look when crossing because you might not know if a car is speeding and they don’t see you. You always look left the right then left again before crossing the street. You also have to listen for cars if you can’t see because two cars are blocking your view you have to make sure you can hear the car coming. The third step is to make eye contact with the driver. When you make eye contact it lets you know that the driver is focused and sees you. After that it is safe to cross. Or is it? While your crossing the driver might just be drifting estimating when the light is going to change. When the light changes and your in the middle of the road most cars would wait for you to pass. When someone is drifting the may not notice you and you could get hit. Remember stop, look, listen then cross. Stay safe.

What did I learn from an AMAZING police yesterday? His name is Ryan , you can refer him as Constable Ryan. Three wonderful and amazing things I learnt from him yesterday was……
1st: Before you cross roads and streets, remember to look right and left to see if there are any cars rushing or coming by as quick as a tiger
2nd: Watch out for nearby cars, because you will never know if they will stop or not
3rd: be very careful of right or left corners, because drivers can’t see you yet until they turn their car around(which will accidentally bump into you!)
4th: pay attention to where you’re heading, try to focus and not do something like reading, playing Pokémon, using your phone, etc
5th: you can wear sharper clothing ,so that drivers can see you (don’t wear something that camouflages into the background)
6th: you can also hang your safety rainbow feather on your bag or something, so drivers can see the reflection of your keychain
If you get hurt or something, you will be like a bird with broken wings.
So, remember try not to!

Today we learned about traffic safety at school. I learned that when you want to cross the road first stop then wait for the light to be green, look left and right listen to cars, make eye contact with the driver and then cross the road. It is very important to follow the traffic rules because there are a lot of people got hurt because of the traffic. It is always important to wave and make eye contact with the driver because some drivers might be doing something else and not focus you have to know that the driver realized that you're there and make sure the driver to stop because we sometimes can't trust the drivers. While you are waiting to cross the road step back a little because if there is a truck doing a sharp turn you make get hurt by the tiles. Now Halloween is coming so we have to be extra careful because the traffic will be more busy especially at night, at night try to wear something bright because the driver might not see you and you don't know, it will cause a accident. And the lesson I learned a lot of traffic safety and I will be more careful and pay more attention to the traffic and my safety.

Today we learned a lot from constable Ryan about pedestrian safety. We learned. While crossing the road. Stop, look left then right then left again. listen if the cars have come to a stop and also give them I contacted so they know your going to cross. Then cross. We also learned to not be on your phone, reading a book, etc. because this causes us to be distracted and we wouldn't be aware of our surroundings which is very dangerous when your crossing the road because. For example pretend your on your phone texting to your friend or parent it turns green but a car is speeding and doesn’t see you then it accidentally hits you cause it didn’t stop right away. This is why it is dangerous to be distracted while crossing the road. He told us to not wear dark clothes at night when walking across the street because a driver might not be able to see you and accidentally hit you. Which may cause broken bones, concussions and can even be fatal. These are 3 things I have learned from constable Ryan.

Imagine you’re taking a stroll on a street and you spot a businessman ,dressed in his office suit, rushing to catch a bus one block away. Moments later, he arrives at the intersection just as the traffic light turns green. Setting aside proper pedestrian safety, the person bolts across the crosswalk without stopping to thinking about his own safety. Suddenly a speeding car from a few metres away from the intersection makes a sharp right turn onto the street the businessman is crossing. You can probably guess what would of happened in this scenario. Unfortunately, the person would have gotten nailed by the wild car and been sent to the hospital if he was still alive. In Vancouver, there have been many cases of pedestrians getting hit by vehicles while crossing an intersection because they aren’t being careful and safe. This is the reason why everyone should follow pedestrian safety procedures to ensure that we are safe at intersections. When I was talking about the night and wearing dark clothes I could of said it was so dark you could barley see your hands right in front of you and the driver can not see you. At the start I was talking about before you cross the road make sure to look both ways before crossing and see if they come to a complete stop and if it doesn’t then you wait until a car stops for you.

Have you ever had a talk with a police officer? Well, today, Constable Ryan came into our class and gave us a talk about pedestrian safety. So, what are 3 things that I learned from Constable Ryan?
1. To always look left and right. No matter what, you should always look left and right before you cross the street. To be specific, you must look left first, as that is where the traffic is closest to you. Constable Ryan mentioned a story about a girl who only looked right, took a step, and a car hit her.
2. Only walk when the "walking man" pops up. Sometimes you'll feel the urge to run across the street to make it in time when the red hand pops up, but that's not a good idea. If the red hand pops up as you're about to go, don't go. Just take a step back and wait for the next red light.

Today I learned how dangerous it is cross the road without looking. Every time before you cross you should make sure it is safe or Else you might get hit by a car. And no body wants to get hit by a car because that will hurt a lot. So the first thing you want to do is look left then right and left again. After that you would want to listen in case there is a ambulance coming. Also if there really is a ambulance and you don’t know where it is coming from that is why you should listen. Next you can carefully walk across safely before the cars start to zoom by. Moreover when you cross the streets it is safe to cross when it is a green light and if you want to cross when it is a yellow light that means it is a warning and it you may not have enough time to cross. Also if you think it is not enough time to cross you can request to the people and they will extend the time for you. Furthermore it is more dangerous at night because if you are wearing black and the driver didn’t notice you he will just keep driving. Then you should wear something that reflects the light off the car so the driver can see you instead off black. After all that you will know how to cross the streets safely without getting hurt. Feedback - Just like every other time, excellent paragraph, but I would recommend that you don't add unnecessary words, for example, this sentence: 'The first thing that I learned was what to do when you are crossing the street; stop, look, make eye contact with the driver (to make sure that they know that you are crossing), and walk.' From my perspective when reading it, it seems a bit too wordy, so I would change your sentence to this: 'The first thing I learned when crossing the street was to stop, look, make eye contact with the driver, (to make sure that they know that you are crossing), and walk...' And that's pretty much it! :)

Have you ever wondered what it's like to talk to a police officer?

Well today my class met a constable. The constable educated us about road and Halloween safety.
How do you cross a street properly?
First look left and then look right, if it's clear to cross then look both ways and cross, continue to look as you you cross.
When you're crossing the streets with lights you should wait for the walking man sign. Do not try and race the timer.

During Halloween, wear some sort of bright/reflective decal so cars can see you and don't set fire crackers because they're dangerous.

This is how you stay safe when crossing the street.

Well before you cross the street the first thing that would be in your best interest to stop! look left first, why do you ask? Looking left first is what you should do because that’s the lane of traffic that comes first is the left lane each time you cross a street, if it's clear to cross then look both ways and cross, continue to look both ways as you you cross.
When you're crossing the streets with lights you should wait for the walking man sign. Do not try and race the time because sometimes you wouldn’t be able to beat it and end up in a bad situation .

Today, we had Constable Ryan to teach and remind us of the importance of road safety, and you may ask why we need to know this even though we have a clear aspect of road safety and what to do. Well, you're completely wrong. For one, I've read every year 300,000 car accidents occur, which to me, seems really bad, and trust me, I've seen one before. (That's for another story.) Because sometimes, people can't see you, or for that matter you can't see them, which is a big matter for those who don't like getting hit with a metal vehicle going 80 miles per hour. To avoid this, look left then right first, because the order is important, which surprises me because I honestly thought you could just look right to left, turns out, left is the most common for cars to appear, so make sure to look left first! One of the many thing I also learnt was the senses, all senses must be used if you are crossing a road, looking left and right, and looking out for stop sign too, senses like hearing and sight are the most of importance, since other senses are rarely used, of course, you can use smell or touch, but I wouldn't recommend trying to smell nearby gasoline to know a car is near you. Make sure you follow all rules for road safety, and remind others if they're improperly crossing a road or jaywalking just to not get late for school, because, overall, I'd rather be late for an exam I didn't study than get hit and hurt by a car.

The order in which you're looking is important which surprises me because I honestly thought you could just look right to left but turns out left is the most common for cars to appear. So make sure to look left first! One of the many things I also learnt was that all senses must be used if you are crossing a road. Senses like hearing and sight are of the utmost importance but, don't forget that other senses like smell and touch are important as well. For example, you can smell nearby gasoline to check for hazards or if a car is near you. Touch could be checking if the ground feels slippery and wet. Make sure you follow all rules for road safety, and remind others if they're improperly crossing a road or jaywalking just to not get late for school or work.

On the revised version in the tenth sentence, instead of “Touch could be if the ground is slippery or wet.” I could’ve said “Touch is another good sense, for example, you can use it to check if the ground is slippery and wet which can be very usefully at stormy and rainy days.” And for the end, I felt it was bland. So, I would say “so overall, I think road safety is one of the important to learn, and if you learned any thing in this paragraph, tell others of about it, it might just save their lives once.

Did you know that many car accidents happened in the past because many people are careless of their surroundings but not that much anymore? Today Ryan came to the school to teach us how to walk on a sidewalk without any accidents and there are 3 important rules while crossing a street. It is important to look both ways while crossing a street to see if there are cars running. This is why we, taking responsibility in ourselves, should follow pedestrian safety protocols and procedures. Constable Ryan came to our class today to talk about safety procedures while on the roads. I learned many critical facts about pedestrian safety from him. First, whenever you're crossing a road, always stop at the curb, look around you and make eye contact with drivers, and listen. No matter what you may have been doing, whether it be chatting with you friends while walking back home from school, looking at your phone, or listening to music with your earbuds in, always remember to put those aside and take into consideration that you are near a road, then stop, look, and listen. Even though this may sound unnecessary, it could possibly save your life. Equally just as important, when it's nighttime, it is highly supported for pedestrians to wear bright, flashy, or neon colors. If you're wearing something dark, for example black, drivers could easily miss that you're crossing the road. The second thing I learned was to never hang from the curb of the sidewalk while waiting to cross the road. This could result in you getting hit by a vehicle driving by. For example, a truck could be turning the corner and hit the side of the road. If you're hanging from the curb, you could get hit or severely injured. Finally, I learned that it is crucial to look left, right, and also sometimes behind before crossing the road. However, you should always look left first since it is the closest lane of cars coming by. It is also super important to try and cross from a cross walk, and not the middle of the road. Reason being, drivers are not expecting someone to pop out from nowhere. While crossing the road, always walk and pay close attention to all your surroundings, whether that be the cars, the lights, the walking man, or the countdown. Never underestimate the speed of the cars, and never overestimate how fast you can go. Today, division one got the chance to have constable Ryan teach us about pedestrian safety. He taught us about three steps to cross safety at an intersection. I learned plenty of things about why it is essential to check you're safe when near traffic. Firstly, always take a step if you are standing on the curb; trucks can go by fast, and the tail might hit the curb. Doing something simple as that can decrease the chances of bloody accidents. Before crossing, even when the pedestrian light is flashing, you still need to look left and right for any cars. Constable Ryan mentioned always looking left first; it's where the cars are coming. Take off your headphones at an intersection when crossing and listen for any emergency vehicle sirens; sound travels fast, so you would always hear it before you see it. One place where many accidents happen is near a school. Many parent drivers are in a hurry to drop their children off at school; many are not paying attention to their surroundings. He taught us how to cross the street safely. There are 7 important things to remember while crossing the street.
1. Slow down and look to the left side then look to the right side of the lane and make sure that your body is well back from the cross-walk so you can give other vehicle space so you don't get run over by the vehicle.

Yesterday a police officer came to our school and taught us about walking safety, and here are the three main points he have taught us. First, look before you walk. Look at the road to see if there are any cars nearby. Second, always look around while walking across the road so if there are any cars go to the closest place that is not on the road. And last but not least, do not get distracted while walking across the street. When we walk across the street we need to pay attention to where we are walking to, if you look at your phone while crossing the street then you might get bumped. Today at school there was a guest came in and told us about some amazing traffic safety facts and everyone give respect to him because he is a worrier working between cars and trucks in other words he is a traffic police. I learned that when you want to cross the road first stop then wait for the light to be green, look left then right because usually cars came from the left, listen to cars, make eye contact with the driver and then you can safely. It is very important to follow the traffic rules because there are a lot of people got hurt because of the traffic and also you might pay money if a police saw you. It is always important to wave and make eye contact with the driver because some drivers might be doing something else and not focus, you have to know that the driver realized that you're there and make sure the driver stop because we sometimes can't trust the drivers. While you are waiting to cross the road step back a little because if there is a truck is doing a sharp turn you may get hurt by the tiles when it went on the side walk. Now Halloween is coming so we have to be extra careful because the traffic will be more busy especially at night, at night try to wear something bright because the driver might not see you and you don't know, it will cause a sad accident. During the lesson I learned a lot of traffic safety and I will be more careful and pay more attention to the traffic and my safety since I don’t want to be hurt badly.
