Today, students engaged in the peer-assessment process during our Language Arts class. This is an incredibly powerful activity that promotes deep and critical thinking. Students refer to success criteria and learning intentions to give descriptive feedback to their peers. Each student gave feedback to one of their classmates. This will allow each student to improve on their work by acting on the feedback. In the afternoon, students engaged in a self-assessment of their volleyball abilities and then learned, 'THE VOLLEYBALL DANCE!'

LEARNING:
1.) LA:

Complete Tuesday's POWERFUL RESPONSE by acting on the peer feedback you received in class today. EDIT/REVISE your original post based on the feedback you received today.
Complete 'GRAB THE READER'S INTEREST' worksheet

2.) POST A RESPONSE:
LEARNING INTENTION: I can edit/revise my work by responding to peer feedback.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Click here and read the feedback given to you.
2.) Edit/revise your original post based on the peer feedback.
3.) Self-assess for the givens/conventions (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, capitals, etc)
4.) After your paragraph, write a few sentences explaining what and how you improved your original powerful response (big idea).

From my first powerful response. I had not edited it too much. After receiving peer feedback and editing and revising, I could see the difference between my first response to the revised version. At first, I never stated my big idea. I also changed up a few things making it sound better. I also improved on my concluding sentence more! Now, after revising it, I find the response much better than the first one I didn't edit. Editing your work and giving and receiving feedback is very important. you peers could find mistakes you couldn't in your own response. If you never edited it you could find many missing things and mistakes. So we should always remember to edit and revise your work!

After rereading and reviewing my first paragraph about my big idea, I could tell that I have revamped a lot when I compared my first paragraph to the second. I also had wonderful feedbacks from my friends and teachers! Something that I improved on is providing more evidence, connections and a better hook to grab the readers attention. I am learning that it doesn't matter if your just quickly finishing your work and handing it in, improving and checking over for all your mistakes is what matters most because if you don't check your work before handing it in, you might make the same mistakes over and over again.

I revised my thesis statement and stated the big idea more clearly. I just re-wrote the thesis statement, but I had to revise and come up with a more direct way of stating my big idea. So I re-read the poem “ode to teacher’s” and reworded my big idea. But that is all I did.

Then, I looked at my revised version and saw how in each paragraph that I wrote, my writing continued to improve with the feedback I had gotten. Before, I was reading my original powerful response and there was always something wrong but I couldn't fix it because I couldn't see my mistakes or what I needed to add. Though, the feedback I got helped me see that the paragraph I had written was too deep and that it would be hard to understand if it weren't from my perspective; so I added more details explaining everything but also making sure to keep a tint of mystery and my style of writing. So, in conclusion, receiving peer feedback, checking over your work and comparing to your past work can benefit and help show your steady progress, and it can also help you check for any mistakes.

There isn’t a huge difference from my original paragraph and my revised version since it was only one or two misspelled words and separating my paragraph into two parts. There is definitely an obvious difference though I don’t think those differences are about the big idea or big points, but rather just small differences such as misspelled words and grammar mistakes. Overall, self and peer assessments are very important when it comes to editing and improvising your work.

If you take a close look at me original and 2.0 powerful response, there not that different. The first thing that I changed was my grammar mistakes. Like I fixed “I met my friends THE excepted who I am” to “I met my friends THAT excepted who I am”. One of the second things I added was the actually poem line. Instead of saying” My evidence for the big idea is in the 3rd paragraph sentence 3-4" I said “My evidence for the big idea is in the 3rd paragraph sentence 3-4 (but why don’t they get it, I just want to be me)”.

That’s basically all I did to improve my powerful response!

My Draft and Revised PAR are very different. For one, I added a second example. Another thing that I changed was I made my first example/connection say more clearly that it was a connection. One thing that did not change was my spelling and grammar. This is because I READ OVER MY WORK BEFORE POSTING (like you all should). When I wrote the revised version, I changed the wording of some things to make it flow and sound better when read. So that's what I changed after reading Nathan's feedback on my paragraph.

Self and peer assessment can improve your writing a lot. When your friend gives your ideas then you can fix things you thought were fine earlier. I added a better conclusion and I switched up the order of things so it had more flow. I took away things that were unnecessary too, like instead of saying “I think the big idea is...” I can just say what it is. There wasn’t much difference but it did improve my writing.

There isn't much of a difference from my first draft and revised one. I improved my hook and changed my first paragraph to make it more clear for the reader. I added a supporting point as well. I also checked my grammar to ensure that it sounds decent.

For editing my powerful response I needed to correct alot of spelling and grammar mistakes I also needed a conclusion and a better ending for the powerful response and lastly I need to change up a few words.

And that is basically all I did to my powerful response.
