Place Value

Today, students started the day off with some community building. Soon after, Mr. Bains taught his first math lesson on Place Value. His lesson was fun and engaging. Students learned about place value and started working in their JUMP Math books. In the afternoon, students worked on their personal collages and learned about two separate reading strategies. They learned how to set a purpose and how to use their background knowledge to make connections.

IMPORTANT:

Today, you learned about two reading strategies. In paragraph format, in detail, write about at leasts 2 deep connections you have made to something that happened in the read aloud today for 'ONE FOR THE MURPHY'S'.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can use my background knowledge to make connections.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) Includes at least 2 detailed connections and explain using your background knowledge.
3.) Check for givens being (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, capitals, and punctuation).
4.) Read one other student's paragraph and ask them one question (reply to their comment)
5.) Reply to any questions received.

Todays math class was fun but its still vary easy, but mr. Bains did a good job at making the lesson fun. This year has started on the right foot! This year went beyond my expectations. Im looking forward to this year!

2 connections I had were when Ms Murphy was being really nice to Carley because she felt bad for her with all she’s been through. It reminded me of when my family sometimes acts really nice it me if I got hurt or something. Like once, I got stitches and they were all being really nice to me and were like “are you okay?”. The second connection I had was when Carley felt like she wanted to be mean to the waiter. Sometimes when I’m really mad I feel like taking it out on a random person. I don’t though. That would be bad. Those were some connections I had reading that book and I hope to continue reading it!

Today while reading the book 'One For The Murphy's' with the class, I made 2 connections. I found a connection when Carly was unable to tell Mrs Murphy when she liked something or wanted something, I sometimes find myself to get shy and not be able to tell my parents when I like or want something, worried about their comments. Although as I grow up into a more mature kid, I find it easier to speak when I need something, I make sure that what I say is appropriate and doesn't bring the conversation the wrong way. Another connection I made was when Carly was upset and wanted to punch something. When I get upset or scolded, I sometimes feel as though I'm being treated like a little girl in a big world and that nobody can understand me, I feel the need to break out of there and that gets me angry. Now, I try to be more reasonable and open-minded.

One connection I made to One for the Murphys was that Mrs. and Mr. Murphy decided to take care of foster kids. One of the YouTubers that I watch, Zach King, took in a foster kid with his wife. Another connection I made was that Carly went clothes shopping with Mrs. Murphy. Sometime I go clothes shopping with my mom and brother at Marshalls or a store like that.

The two connects i made are when she was mad and she did alot of things to try to make Ms.Murphy mad, when im mad i sometimes do that! Another connection i have made is when her personality always changes, im always like happy than sad than happy again! wow 😯

Good connections to your life (YouTuber you watch and shopping with your mom and brother), Lars! Next time, make sure that your name is spelled correctly before submitting your reply. Double-checking your work is an important skill to have moving forward.

While Mr. Hong was reading To us a made a connection to the protagonist. My first connection was when Carly was unable to say no when Ms. Murphy Asked if she liked the new t-shirt she got. Some times around adults I am unable to voice my opinion in fear that I will Offend them in any way. This usually stops once I know the person better, and what background they come from. This has improved my skills to read a person and guess what Personality they have. The second connection is when ms Murphy understood where Carly came from and didn’t get mad when she insulted the waiter. My connection is when my siblings are almost throwing a tantrum and I don’t get mad at them, because I knew they are tired. I hope they would do the same thing for me.

While reading the book called One For The Murphy's, I started making connections of my own. The first connection that I am sharing to you guys is, when Carly was mad she felt like wanting to punch someone. When I get mad or sad I will stomp on the ground so hard the the fish tanks water will start bouncing up and down like when a T rex is walking toward you. When I go to my bedroom, I would slam the doors and sleep. My second connection is when Carly was being mean to the waitress when they where at the restaurant. Sometimes when I am mad and somebody just started talking to me. I would be kind of frustrated. These are my 2 connections and thank you for reading!

The connections I made to the book is when Mrs Murphy asked if Carly liked the shirt when they went clothe shopping and she couldn't say no, I usually am quiet when I am asked something, The next connection is when Carly felt like punching something, and I also sometimes feel angry and want to punch something too

“ONE FOR THE MURPHY’S” is a book that Reminds me of my sister. Caraly wants to punch someone when she gets mad, and that goes same for my sister, then my sister will always stomp her way to her room when things do not go the way she wants them. My second connection is when ms. Murphy got Caraly a new shirt that she did not like and Caraly had a hard time saying anything. For me im always speechless trying to make up a lie so i don’t make anyone sad. (This is my P.A.R. Seth lol)

Today we read a few chapters of a book called One For The Murphy’s. I have two connections with the book that I am going to share. The first connection is that my parents are very nice to me. For example, they spend money to take me to nice places, they cook or buy food for me, and they help me with my work. This is just like when Ms. Murphy was very nice to Carly. The second connection that I have is that sometimes my parents would order food for me at a restaurant because I would not know what I wanted to eat. This is also like when Ms. Murphy had to order food for Carley. So those were the two connections that I had with the book, and I am curious about what connections you have with the book.

I am making a connection when Mrs. Murphy was being really nice to Carly and Carly was very uncomfortable with it because I also feel uncomfortable when people talks to me very softly and nicely. Another connection that I made is like when Carly couldn't say no when Mrs. Murphy asked and I always can't say no to somebody because it might be the wrong answer.

Today we were reading “One for the Murphy’s” again. A few connections I made is that when Carley couldn’t bring herself to say what she wanted and if she didn’t want something. When I visit my cousins in Calgary my parents usually have to work so they would drop me off at my cousin’s house and I’d stay there for a month or two. When I go shopping with my aunt I’d be too scared to ask because I might sound a bit bratty and so when she buys me things I would just thank her even though I might not want it! The second connection is that when Carley said she woke up to apple trees and reminded her off a forest, a picture of the campsite I went to when I was in grade 3 just popped up into my head. After that it also reminded me of a book called “The War that Saved my Life.” because they lived by a horse barn and horse’s like apples. Those were the connections I made!

My first connection to the book One For The Murphy’s is when Carly didn’t know how to say yes to Mrs Murphy for the clothes she was buying her. My connection to that is that sometimes when I am at someone’s house to eat and they ask if I like it and I don’t, I don’t know what to say. My second connection is that when Carly and Mrs Murphy were getting lunch, Carly was taking a long time to order and I usually also take a long time to make decisions for anything not just food. Like for example if I am at my friends house and they ask what I want to do I take a long time because they might want to do something else.

Today when we continued to read "One For The Murphy's" I made two connections. I made a connection to Carley wanting to punch someone. It reminded me of when Aaron (my brother) is mad, he used to want to hurt people (not anymore). The other connection I made to "One For The Murphy's" was when Carley ran away from the Murphy's house. I made a connection to the book "From The Mixed-Up Files Of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler". In this book the main character, Claudia runs away from home because she is unhappy with her parents. Those were the two connections that I made while reading "One For The Murphy's".

When we where reading "One For The Murphy's today i made 2 connections. The first one is when they went clothe shopping and not being able to speak up when we whet to get clothes because I was worried of my moms reaction of me not liking the piece of clothing that my mum was holding up. The second one is Carly wanted to punch someone, I also wanted to punch someone(but not anymore). those are my connections.

I have a few connections to One for the Murphy’s. First of all is when Carley asks for unlimited rolls at the restaurant. My connection is that I always like to ask if we can have unlimited rolls, since I love eating them for some reason. So that was my first connection. Second is that when Carley wanted to fight/punch someone. Now I cant do that but I would often hit my stuffed animals since they get my anger out instead of having my anger inside of me building up. So those where my connections. Also I bet that I had some other ones, but I don’t really remember. Sorry.

If you would like a good book that's about family, then 'One for the Murphy's' is just for you! You will make lots of connections as you read the book. Here are 2 connections that I've made in the book in those 3 chapters. When Carley made a tantrum or a problem at the restaurant, I made a connection of when my little brother would always throw food around and lay on the floor lifelessly, as if trying to get attention. I also made a connection when she called Mrs. Murphy a "psychologist" as a statement. When my mom gets something right, I sometimes say "Don't go all smartypants on me". Those were the connections that I have made. When you read the book, what will be your connection?

These are the connections I have for the One For The Murphys. I have a connection when Carly went clothes shopping with Mrs.Murphy. When we sometimes go shopping for clothes, my mom picks cloths for my sister but she doesn't like them, just like Mrs.Murphy picked cloths for Carly. The second connection is that when Carly wants to fight someone. I sometimes fight with my little sister disagreeing things and she makes me really mad sometimes. So I go to the bedroom, curl up some bedding, and fight with it. These are the connections I made foe the One For The Murphys.

My first connection is Carly make Mrs. Murphy sad, I feel sad if my dad scolded me when I play video game and forgot eating or forgot everything. And he is scolded me almost two hours! My second connection is when Carly said she woke up to the apple trees to remember she go to the forest before. When I think about apple trees, I will think of the apple tree in my grand-parent’s backyard, I will eat the apples every Fall when the apples are ripe. That my two connections of “One for the Murphy’s”.

I had just read One of the Murphy’s and while reading the book One of the Murphy’s, I had two connections with the main protagonist: Carley Conner. The first connection I had was when Carley Conners wanted to punch something. I don’t want to hurt anyone, and I wouldn’t be able to but when you're in the moment you just want to take a break from everything and hit something. For me, I usually slam the door, but I rarely do that because my parents would get mad at me for giving attitude. The second connection I had with Carley was when she couldn't express her opinion about clothes and the things she liked. Sometimes I disagree with my parents sense of style but I still say it’s nice and all which is bad because they buy it home and they would ask me why I never wear it and force me to but at least I gotten rid of that. I relate with Carley a lot more than I thought I would I guess mainly because of my emotions and hatred of pity.
