POWERFUL RESPONSE DRAFT #2

Today, you worked hard on various learning activities. We started the day with a physical education assessment of your basketball skills and knowledge. Later on, you worked on completing your self-assessments and edits/revisions to your first draft of your powerful response. Your second draft is due tomorrow. Be sure that you have this ready for another peer to give you feedback in class tomorrow. We will be working with the students from Mr. Fisher's class.

1.) LA/NOVEL APPROACH: Your second draft of your powerful response is due tomorrow. Follow the success criteria.

2.) MATH: Complete the double sided multiplication handout and the single sided division handout.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Create a poem or song about the integer rules.
You must include the rules for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Feel free to use the cheat sheet.
Post your lyrics here.
Comment on a classmate's lyrics to make sure they got the rules right.

Addition is adding two numbers.
The sign is+,
so 2+2=4
This is easy.
But sometimes there are 2 signs.
For example 2+(-1),
when we see this,
the rule is:
same sign adds,
different signs subtract.

When you add a negative integer it becomes positive.
When you add a positive integer when the first number is positive, the answer is positive.
When you add to negative numbers then you just add the two numbers and put a negative sign in front of it.
Sorry, that's all I could think of... I know, I know, you guys are probably thinking that it is lame. Ahahaa

If you need to multiply
Negative numbers or positive,
Try to use different stratagies, or you will be wrong.
Every situation has a rule, like multiplying two numbers of the same integer will always be positive

If you are adding when they are the same sign all you have to do is add, if they are negative you add like this (-1)+(-3)= (-4)
When you are subtracting change the sign of the second number to the opposite sign. If it is positive- change to negative. If it is negative- change to positive.
For multiplying if they are both positive or negative an example (-1)x(-3)= (+3) and (+1)x(+3)= (+3) as well, if they are different signs it will be negative. Same for division but you divide instead.

Yo yo my name is Joe I’m an integer pro. I know this would be cringeworthy, but bear with me, this rap is gonna flow. Addition, subtraction, mulitiplication and division. They ain’t a big problemo. For addition, you can think about the number line. -3+4 equal +1. Why? Because 4 is the bigger number and is positive. So make the answer positive too. Subtraction ain’t that hard. Just remember that 2 negative numbers can stay fun! Negative and negative would make the answer positive. Positive and negative would make negative. Positive and positive is your normal subtraction question! It’s nothing to fret over and over again! The same rules apply for multiplication and division, so now you know all! Pick up your pencil, it’s alright, and use your brain and these rules to solve! You can do it, I know you can! Just believe! Please Don’t leave! The questions shall not solve themselves, so roll up your sleeves!

(This took me so long and it’s still horrible. And, the autotune in the song was so obvious it blew my wig away)

ADDITION SAME SIGN:Add the absolute value of the numbers and keep the same sign.
ADDITION DIFFERENT SIGN:Subtract the absolute value of the numbers and keep the sign of the bigger number.
SUBTRACTION SAME SIGN: Same as addition but - - = +
MUTIPLICATION SAME SIGN:Multiply the numbers. Answer will be positive.
MULTIPLICATION DIFFERENT SIGN:Multiply the numbers. Answer will be negative
DIVIDING SAME SIGN:Divide the numbers. Answer will be positive.

If you are multiplying integers and the 2 integers are the same in negative or positive then you answer will be positive.
Never make your answer positive when the 2 integers are negative and positive for a multiplication question.
The middle that is dividing negative integers and positive integers in the zero principle.
Everyone should know division integer questions if they know multiplication integer questions.
Greater numbers will stay if you add integers
Everyone in my class should know that if you add 2 negative integers the answer will always be negative.
Remember if you add to positive integers the answer will always stay positive.
Start with addition questions if you are just starting integer questions.

This is a free verse poem.

I like math,
For it is quite enjoyable
And fascinating.
Especially with integers.

Adding them is great fun.
When you add,
And they have the
Same sign,
Keep the sign.
If they don’t,
Keep the larger number’s sign.

Subtracting integers is equally fun.
It’s a complicated process,
Subtracting that is.
Keep the first integer’s sign,
And change
Both the subtraction sign,
And the second integer’s sign
Into their opposites.

Multiplying integers is by far the best,
It’s easy and enjoyable.
If they have the same sign,
The product will be
Positive.
When the signs are different,
The product will be negative.

Last but not least,
We have division.
Don’t worry,
It’s not hard.
In fact,
It’s quite similar to multiplication.
The same signs will divide into
Positive integers,
And different signs will divide into
Negative integers.

I hope you remember
All that we talked about today.
For it will be quite useful-
If you remember it that is.

Enough ramble let's actually go go go! To add remember that positive, positive, positive plus positive, positive, positive is always positive and vice, vice versa for negatives. So now that you know, know, know about the rules of adding, let's get into subtracting, tracting, tracting! Always remember to keep, keep, keep the sign of the first number and to change, change, change the subtraction sign to addition. Change the sign, sign, sign of the second number to the opposite. For example, make a plus into a negative and a negative into a positive, positive, positive! Now that you know about the rules for the subtracting let's try some multiplying! What do we do when we want to multiply, or divide?
The number's a positive, or negative, well here's a guide!
First you study the two numbers, horrified
that you can find each one with a different sign!
Now listen here, 'cause these are the rules,
to make sure you don't fall into math's whirlpools!
If the signs are the same,(it doesn't matter what)
Then it turns positive! (always!) BUT
If the signs are different, (one positive, one negative)
Then the answer is always.....NEGATIVE!!!

Cringe alert!

When you’re adding integers,
And both have the same sign
Just take the signs,
And simply push ‘em to the side.
Add the numbers
Get the ‘absolute value’
And boom you’re done,
There’s nothing you can’t do!
if the signs are different,
Figure out which number is greater,
Ignore the signs,
Just add the number and it’s neighbour.
The sign next to the larger,
Well, it should be proud,
Because next to the sum,
It can now be found.
Subtraction question?
No need to fret,
‘Keep, Keep, Change’
Doesn’t quite make sense yet?
All you have to do,
is change subtraction to addition,
( - becomes +)
And you’re halfway done your mission.
If the last number is found,
On the left side of a number line,
Switch things around,
Give that number the opposite sign.
Now you use the rules,
That you learned for addition,
Add the new numbers together,
Next up, multiplying, and division!

Now that, that is done,
there is one more skill to learn.
'for both multiplying and division?'
shush, don't speak out of turn.
If both signs are the same,
then all you have to do,
is add '+' to the answer,
and you got it, yahoo!
If the signs are different,
and they don't agree,
then the answer is negative,
as negative as can be.
