A creative display of learning!

Today, we reviewed the learning intentions and success criteria for the powerful responses. We also looked at a quality example written by one of your classmates. Afterwards, we discussed the major areas where most students struggled with their previous powerful response. One important trait of good writing is 'FLUENCY'. Your powerful response should be easy to read, have different sentence beginnings, include both long and short sentences, and include transitions that makes the writing flow smoothly. I look forward to seeing more improvements on your next one!

Why is it important to pay attention to learning intentions? Let me tell you, it is important to pay attention to learning intentions because then you know what to do. It is very important to listen for the learning intentions when Mr. Hong is giving instruction because it is what our teacher expects us to do. Every student needs to pay attention to success criteria as well. Success Criteria is the specific pieces of information needed to produce successful work. We should always edit our work based on the success criteria because Mr. Hong want us to always edit and IMPROVE our work. There is always something we can make better. Having someone else edit your work can help you see little spelling and punctuation errors. Another person can also give you feedback from their point of view. Lastly, what does “Taking Ownership of your learning” mean? It means you are not only responsible for your work, you are required to learn at the same time. You should always get your work done, do any research that will help you with your task and expand your mind.

It is important to pay attention to learning intentions because so you know what the whole point of the lesson is. It's almost like giving you a success criteria and goal.
2.) Why is it important to follow success criteria?
It is very important to follow the success criteria. It is almost like the instructions and the key to get extending. So if you want to get really good marks, you should be looking at you're success criteria and following the instructions.
3.) Why should we always self-assess our work against the success criteria?
We should always be self assessing our work against the success criteria because so then you understand and see what you do wrong, and what you have missed to that you can improve your drafts.
4.) Why should we have someone else assess our work against the criteria? How can you benefit from this?
Peer assessing is also another big part of the learning process. Why? Well of course you self asses first. But you might not see things and so you're peers can correct you if you think it's right but it's not. As said, when you read things again you find out new things.
5.) What does 'TAKING OWNERSHIP OF YOUR LEARNING' mean to you?
Taking ownership of your learning can also be a synonym for being accountable. This means to have you're work done and to have all the materials you need or else it will be really hard for you to learn. Also is part of the "Novel Approach". How? Well it can also be refereed as "monitoring you're comprehension" by asking questions and that is also taking ownership of you're learning.

Throughout the year Mr. Hong has taught us how to follow criteria and pay attention to the L.I.. But why is it important? Well, it is important because if you don't follow the success criteria you will miss a lot of the key points of your assignment. Paying attention to the learning intentions makes sure that you understand what you are learning. You guys might think that editing, revising and having a peer assess your work boring or that there is no use for it. But you're wrong! It's important to self assess because you can find mistakes that you didn't see the first time. Peer assessment is also important because your peers might find something that doesn't sound right or doesn't follow the criteria. Now lastly, taking ownership of your learning is the most important. What this means to me is that you are responsible of getting your work done on time and ready to perform if it's a performance. Have your materials ready if you're doing a book club and many more. If you aren't ready you are dragging your group down and yourself.

When we self-assess our works against the success criteria, we can check how well we do in meeting the requirements. It is also important to have someone assess our work against the criteria because we might not be able to see the mistakes we make. We can benefit from learning from others. Aww Mr Hong again? Learning Intentions are stupid! is probably what most people would think at the beginning they learn about them. Well, they’re pretty important... Don’t worry, I used to think like that and be honest you probably did too. Learning Intentions are really important because they lest you know why you are learning what you are learning and it also gives a idea of what you are learning about. Also success criteria’s are important because it tells what exactly you need to do in order to succeed. It’s important to self assess with it because you must know what you need to work on what you did well and don’t need to work on. It’s also important to tell someone else to assess it too against the criteria because you migh not find certain mistakes that you totally missed. I think taking ownership of you learning means to be responsible of your mistakes and learn from them or learn from your success.

1.) For me, I treat it as a "what-your-supposed-to-know" thing. If you don't understand the learning intention, then you should practice the subject more or receive help from the teacher.

2.) The success criteria is like a reminder, a reminder that can lead you extending. It shows you example of what work would look like based on marked categories.

3.) It's kind of like a personal proofreader, it tells you what you need to improve on and where you are.

4.) Letting a peer self-assess your work can transform your writing. It tells us what a reader would think about your work, with the addition of feedback and suggestions. Some people aren't sure of their level of quality. Letting a peer assess your work can assure where you're positioned at in terms of quality. It also comes with the benefit of quality, as you're not the one marking it.

4.) To act like your teacher would like you to be, finish everything in time, don't rush, etc.

I find it important to follow learning intentions and success criterias because they clearly sate what you should do in the assignment and help you reach maximum success level. They better your understanding of the project at hand and what are the key points. After completing your first draft of the assignment, you should alway self assess because after reading through the complete draft once more, you can improve your writing and correct errors you might have missed the first. When you feel that you are satisfied with the piece of writing it is always great to have a peer also assess your work. This is because your peer could help you improve/develop your writing skills and give you feedback to help you make your assignment the best it could be. Through peer assessment, you also have another brain that could think of things that you might not have that of before. The final question that was asked to use was, what does "Taking ownership of your learning" mean to you. To me it means to be responsible to have everything organised and to have all the materials required for the assignment ready. In the end it is yourself that you will ultimately drag down if you don't take ownership of your learning and if it is a group assignment, you let down your group.

It’s important to pay attention to the learning intentions for a couple reasons. If you don’t know what the learning intentions are, you might not know why you are required to do something. When you don’t know why you are doing something, you might do it a wrong way. For instance, if the focus of a writing assignment was to write something that flowed really well, and didn’t have to be short. If you weren’t paying attention to the learning intention and wrote something really long, and not very good quality you probably wouldn’t get a very good mark. Just like paying attention to learning intentions, it’s important to follow the criteria. The criteria is kind of like the learning intention, but way more detailed. Unlike learning intentions though, you should always check back to the criteria so you can improve your work even after you’re done it. You need to make sure you’ve made everything the best it can be. You also need to confirm that you’ve done everything that was required of you. That’s called self-assessment, and it’s great. However sometimes, we mark ourselves unfairly. Sometimes we think that we’ve done really horribly, or sometimes we think that we’ve done absolutely amazing. When in reality, we haven’t. So, it’s good to have a second opinion. It’s pretty strange. My friends sometimes notice grammar mistakes that I didn’t notice in all my revision. Having a peer assess your work for you is really helpful, especially when they give easy to follow feedback. If you’ve done all this (followed criteria/learning intention, self assessed, and got peer assessed), chances are you have something you’re at least sort of proud of. Now you have to take ownership. To me taking ownership means that I can show my work to someone who asks, and that I don’t completely hate my finished product.

One thing you might as is why is it important to follow success criteria? It's important to follow the success criteria because the criteria shows what you need to do in order to do well and get something like extending. Mr. Hong will often make us go through our work on a criteria sheet and put ourselves where we think we are. Why should we always self-assess our work against the success criteria though? It might seem pointless, but it's not. We should always self-assess ourselves because if we don't check our work against the criteria, we don't know if we're doing good or not. We should have another person check our work against the criteria because it's easy for us to think that our work is better or worse than it actually is. It's good to have another person mark it because they won't be biased. Obviously, you are likely to be more biased towards yourself since it's your work. You will benefit from this benefit by getting better grades since now you can be sure that you're following the criteria. Doing all of these things might seem like a pain, but they are all a part of taking ownership of your learning. But what is taking ownership of your learning? Taking ownership of your learning is like standing up for yourself in a way. You can't let your teacher do everything for you because really, they can't. You are responsible for yourself.

Even though the self/peer assessment process can be very tiresome, it can be really useful and beneficial for you. There are reasons why we are told to follow things like the criteria sheets and self/peer assess our work. Let me tell you why. Before we can start our work/assignment, we are told a learning intention. Learning intentions tell us what our goal is for that unit and what we are able to do after the unit/lesson(s). What happens if we’re not given a learning intention? Well, without a learning intention, we wouldn’t know what we’re aiming for and what our goal is. Therefore, we know what the goal/objective is if we have a learning intention. The job of a success criteria is to tell you what you’ll need to include in order to get extending. A success criteria is really helpful because you’ll know what is expected in your assignment/project/presentation. Self assessments help you see what you did wrong so then you can improve your assignment. You’ll be able to learn from your mistakes. Peer assessments help you see what other people think about your work. You get to see other’s perspective of your work and what you missed. Other people might think of things you would never expect if you were only doing a self assessment. Their descriptive feedback can make you go like “OoOOoOOooh… I never thought of that.” I think that taking ownership of your learning means to be responsible of your own learning. For example, completing your work on time.

Today we assessed our ABC photo collages. There are a few things that we need to keep in mind while we do an assignment. What are those things? Well, that’s what I’m going to tell you. Imagine if we were to write something and edit it, we will probably still miss something or someone else might not understand what we wrote. This is why we need to have a criteria or a mental criteria to see what we need to change or improve. We could also have someone else read it because there may be something that only makes sense to us or some small mistakes that we miss. Someone else would probably be able to catch all or most of those things. The other person might see something in a different light than us. They can even suggest new ideas that we never would have thought of ourselves. In addition, when we learn something, we need to know what we want to accomplish or learn to do, so we can make a clear path to doing something. Otherwise, we might not know what to do. In other words, the learning intentions are the path through the forest towards the end goal. If you didn’t have the path you probably would have gotten lost in the forest with no idea where to go. You may have heard of the phrase “Take ownership of your learning.”, but what does it mean? It means to be responsible about your learning. You know exactly what you are learning and why you’re learning it. In conclusion, I think that criteria, self and peer assessments, and taking ownership of your learning are very important points if we want to move on with life.

Everything requires certain skills, but other than that, what is needed? For example, lets say you make a store. You need to balance prices between affordable and earning you enough money to not only run your shop and pay everyone in it, but also to support yourself. And that's only the beggining. There are plenty of difficult jobs out there, the better the pay, the more difficult.

For now we're in school, and we are only learning these skills. It is thankfully broken up for us, and the criterias made. Here's why each element is important.
Learning intentions. Why is it important to know them? Simple- so that you know what the endgame. You can't find your way if you don't know where your going.
Success Criteria. The reason for these is similar, so that you know where you need to go. Imagine that you are trying to find a town. The learning intentions tell you the name of the town, while the Criteria is signposts, telling you which way to go.
Self assesment. Maybe you have a GPS. So you can see the town and the routes, the more... modern version of my metaphor. So you can now see where the town is and you can see ways to get there, but you need to keep checking that you're going the right way or you'll get lost.
Peer assesment. So you also have a friend with you. You are checking the GPS every once in a while, but you want to let someone else check too- they may see a faster way, or there may be something along your chosen path that you missed, like construction or a fallen bridge. It's good to have a second set of eyes.
Taking ownership. This means that you actively seek to learn and keep up, and if you take a wrong turn, you don't blame it on you buddy or you GPS. You fix the problem.

Learning Intentions, success criteria, self-access, I hear these words all the time during school time. But what does these words mean? Why do I hear them all the time? Here's my definition fro you guys. Learning Intentions are what we need to do for the whole assignment, it gives us a better understanding of what we need to do. Success criteria comes after learning intention, it tells us exactly what we need to do to get extending. As long as we follow the givens closely, 90% we'll get a good mark. Now, why do we need to self and peer assess? If you self-assess, you can find your own mistakes and that's the best way to learn, you learn from your own mistakes. Peer assess can help you find mistakes you can't find, this way you can get better by having more people's opinion. Taking ownership of your own learning, you know what to do in the case to get your tasks done, and to rule your time.

Ever since he started teaching us, Mr.Hong always takes time before each assignment to go over all the learning intentions. The learning intentions help us understand what we're supposed to achieve in set assignment. Without learning intentions, how would we know what our goal is? Or what we want to learn? Another important part of learning is success criteria. This criteria is what you need to be successful in your learning. What the teacher expects/hopes to see in your work. A good way to fulfill the success criteria would be to check your work while looking at the criteria along the way. That way, you can see what you need to add/change, to make your piece better, and more suitable of the criteria. We also often let others check our work. This works really well, because we all think differently, and someone may see something that you never thought about. Lastly, taking ownership of your thinking is really important in the whole learning process. It means to be responsible for your work and what you learn from it. You need to finish your work on time, and have it ready whenever it's needed.

In class, we always talked about learning intentions, criteria and all the stuff. Why do you think the teachers have to keep repeating and why is it important, let me tell you why. At school, Mr.Hong always go throw the learning intention, I think it is important because if you look at it, you will know that what is the purpose in everything. If the teacher didn't go through it and just give us to do it, all of us will be confused in what we need to learn in this. Secondly, why is it important to follow success criteria? I think is important because you can see like every time what you do can make your writing or project better. And if you just don't follow it, you probably gonna mess up and you don't know what should include. Thirdly, why should we always self-assess our work against the success criteria? I think we should always self-assess our work because in our work,we will always forgot to add something. Since Mr. Hong came to our school and I have learned lots from him exercise the leaning intentions, novel approach, learning principles and more.
Learning intentions are important because without learning intentions you might not even know what's to do. If you don't know what learning intentions are, well they are basically instructions to me. They tell you what the purpose of this assignment is and what you need to do to get extending. Not only is it just learning intentions but success criteria s also a part of it too. Intentions are the purpose and criteria is the instructions. Not just regular instructions but instructions that lead you to success. Without success criteria you don't know how to get to extending just like baking a cake. Without instructions you might not be able to make the cake that you want.
Self assessing can be hard because you're marking your own stuff and obviously you want to get a good mark. Self assessing can help you know what you need to improve on and to work on. Peer assessing is also is important as self assessing. The only difference is that you're not making it but others are marking and giving you feedback too. It's also important because you can get ideas from others perspective so you can learn different things.
"Taking ownership of you're learning" what does that mean? To me I think that it means to take responsibility of doing your homework on time and not relying on others. It's not just homework but times when you are learning. For example when you are learning, you can take ownership by focusing because if you're not focusing then you don't know what's happening right now and then you have to ask everyone around you and you will waste time when you could do some work.

And sometimes if someone else assesses your writing, they might see things that you didn’t. They can also give their opinion and what they think you need to improve on or even what you are good at. For every activity we do we have one or more learning intentions for it. Why? So you know what you’re learning. If you just read it and not actually understand of course you’re going to be that one person who’s hiding under a rock because they don’t know the purpose of this. Also, we have a success criteria. What’s it for you ask? It’s a “list” that we have so we know what we need to do in order for us to get good assessments or marks. As like what Mr. Hong says, you can have a really strong writing paragraph but the thing is the content in it isn’t what isn’t related to what you really need to write. Let’s say your done your writing and you rushed it. Read it over then, assess yourself and look at what you need to add or remove. Having someone else assessing yours is also a good thing to do. They have different P.O.V.’s and they can see what else you could improve or do next time. By this you can make your assignment at least twice as better than last time. You get feedback so you see what things you can do better in. Neat am I right. Taking ownership of your learning is important. Whether it’s doing your homework or getting your work to the success criteria, you need to take responsibility. It’s your work, doing good or bad depends on you on how hard you work or how bad you do. Maybe even try to work everything out on your own so you yourself can improve instead of just asking others for feedback.

From the beginning of when Mr Homg joined this class, we’ve been learning about learning intentions, success criteria, etc. And its important to look at the learning intentions properly because it shows what we’re learning. If we don’t fully understand what we are learning about then there’s no point. In order to succeed, we have to follow the success criteria. This criteria shows all the things we have to work on to reach success. We should always self assess our work after completing it because we could see if we were missing anything that was written on the success criteria. If we do find something we haven’t done yet, we could complete it perfectly by changing it. When someone else looks through your work they may see it in a whole new perspective. They might think you haven’t done something yet, so it’s still good to have someone else check it out for you. Sometimes you could be technically “blind” because of you skipping lines and such. You take ownership of your work by taking responsibility of it. If you made a spelling error, fix it. If you think your sentences are structured weird, fix those too. Ive learned a lot about these things and I think they’re helping me with my learning.

As Mr.Hong has said over a billion times this entire year, it is important to follow learning intentions, success criteria and to give self/peer assessments. Why is it important you ask? Well, here's why. When you follow learning intentions and success criteria, it allows you to get a good assessment and a greater performance. Giving self/peer assessments isn't any less important than following the learning intentions, success criteria. When you give feedback to yourself or someone else, you can improve on what you didn't add or what you should improve in a specific category. In the end, learning intentions, success criteria, self/peer assessments are very important in our learning. They guide us to the greater future.

2.) Why is it important to follow success criteria?
3.) Why should we always self-assess our work against the success criteria?
4.) Why should we have someone else assess our work against the criteria? How can you benefit
from this? (HINT: Think about the importance of descriptive feedback).
5.) What does 'TAKING OWNERSHIP OF YOUR LEARNING' mean to you?
Success Criteria, Learning Intentions, and Assessments are all important things. All though we know they're important, I still question why are they important? So let me tell you what I think. Learning intentions are important because its important to know what you should be able to do by the end of this assignment. Success criteria is the most important thing in my opinion. I only say that because, success criteria makes it clear to anyone reading it what the assignment/project should look like. It's what's trying to make your work the best it can be. And it helps a ton with that. Next up is Self-Assessments. When you're doing a self-assessments you should use the success criteria to make sure you know what to look for when editing/assessing. However you may ask "Why does self-assessing even help?". Well in my opinion I think that it helps because giving yourself a chance to look over it, and look out for things you want to change. For example, a part of the story/part of the plot if you're writing a story. So all we're left with now is Peer-Assessments. And those are useful for multiple reasons, but the main one is: Typically when a person who isn't you look over your work they see more. For example grammatical mistakes, and spelling mistakes. And having another person look at your work is always beneficial to your work, because having another pair of eyes looking over work is useful. So next time you're writing something, or doing an assignment make sure you do/use all of these things.
