Today, students learned a valuable lesson. They learned about digital citizenship and cyber bullying. They watched a documentary film put out by Telus and Carol Todd (mother of Amanda Todd), "The Dark Cloud." They learned about how the actions of people can have serious consequences. They also learned about what we can do to make sure things like this don't happen. Tomorrow, we will continue our discussion on prevention and how we should treat each other. Like Bonnie Henry says, we should "Stay calm, safe, and be kind to everyone!" Later, to celebrate Earth Day, we spent some time outside working on our film festival writing activity on 'The Dark Cloud' documentary. In the afternoon, we had a desk change, cleaned and organized, and worked on our Pencil to Pixel artwork.

Parents, if you get the chance, please watch this documentary we saw in class today and have a discussion with your child. It is an important one to have with them. Keep the dialogue going.

Today, we watched, "The Dark Cloud." Parents, if you get the chance, please watch it and have a discussion with your child about it.
In paragraph format, write about what you thought the big idea was.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can write about the big idea of the film from today.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format
2.) Includes 2-3 supporting points, examples, evidence, etc from the film to support your big idea (use of strategies would be helpful here). Include at least one deep connection and elaborate on it and how it helped you get the big idea.
3.) Check for the givens.
4.) Ask one student a question about one of their connections.
5.) Edit/revise as needed.

Bullying can be foundd commonly around the world, especially when social media is becoming a bigger platform for everyone including newer generations. Although, more people are learning to defend themselves and others, the topic has not been avoided. With this in mind, today in class, we watched a film about cyberbullying. The film meant to explain how cyberbullying is not a joke. It is a serious affair that has not disappeared for a decade. Despite many people who are readyto support those in pain, sometimes it is not enough. The film explains this when many victims are shown. Such as Amanda Todd who committed suicide after being cyber stalked, and a young girl named Brooke who has been a target of cyberbullying. To explain, Brookes suffered when many of her toxic friends called her at midnight to spite her and hurt her. Those around simply laughed while her family attempted to support her. As a result, she attempted to commit suicide as well through pills and drugs. Another victim named Justin was targeted for his sexuality, he was physically bullied and his head was smashed into a pole repeatedly, then soon he was thrown intoa sharp object. These many victims are not the only ones. There are many who begin to share their journey after these incidents, I have also been hurt through cyberbullying. As my friend was one upset, she decided to manipulate others which triggered them into disliking me and changing their opinion on me. Though since then I have already forgotten this incident, I still look back to the texts I was sent and wonder if things could have turned out differently. In summariztion, cyberbullying has always been a true headache as being a victim is extremely hurtful. Imagine being a victim, despite being a person of high authority, your privacy is sacred and many may have harmful intentions to break past your walls. We should all be aware and take precautions to strangers.

I think the big idea is to stop future tings like that happening. More and more bullying and cyberbullying are happening. That's why they are trying to raise awareness to it and light it from the dark. Bullying can lead to mental harm, self harm and suicide. From Amanda's story, we can all work together to prevent this from ever happening again.

we live in a world in which that there is dozens of thousands of people everyday that gets bullied and cyber-bullied. A lot of these bullies actually dont know that they are bullying them instead they actually only think this for fun. The Big Idea for this is that words harm more than actions. Hiting a person is a temporary phsyical effect that will harm them for a while, a bruise. However words sting so much they are with us for the rest of our lives.

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices and it can occur anywhere on the internet. Unfortunately, it’s actually very common in our digital world to the point where it’s sometimes normalized, and isn’t taken as seriously as it should be. Today, we watched a film about Amanda Todd, a 15/16 year-old student and victim of cyberbullying, taking her own life on October 10, 2012. In my interpretation of the big idea; the film is sending a message to children and families that there is hope in the world, and although times can be very low in life, there are people who care and want to help. Nonetheless, it’s important to speak up and seek help because staying silent can lead to worse outcomes that soon cannot be prevented. Furthermore, I was scrolling on Youtube a few months ago and I came across this girl’s page and her comment section was filled with negativity and I could barely find a positive comment. People were body shaming, sending threats and making jokes towards her and this is a good example of cyberbullying on the internet that is regularly normalized on the internet because it’s so commonly used. Briefly, unless our society recognizes the bullying that is going on in our world right now, the suffering of silent victims will continue.

It's 2021 now. You might not know it but so many people in the world get bullied. Today, we watched a film about bullying. I think the big idea was is just to raise awareness about cyber bullying (and bullying). It happens so much, right under our feet. You might not know it but its a a very common thing. People have committed suicide, ending their lives because of this. Some people say "well its not that hard, just stop going online", but its much harder then you think. I wish it could all end, cyberbullying and bullying. I'm sure you do to. Though it may seem impossible, it is actually 100% possible. We need to train the future generations and ourselves, to become better people.

I think they are trying to tell us that words can hurt much more than physical pain. It can cause trauma that will stay in their brains for probably the rest of their lives. Where as, papercuts and scraps will eventually slowly disappear until it's like it was never there.

Cyberbulling is a international problem, and many people attempt suiside because of it. Yesterday, we watched a film about how bulling affects people. I think that the big idea is that to let people know how cyberbulling affects people and it is really close. For example, a girl got cyberbullied for 2 years and suisided. Cyberbulling is very harmful to people and it should stop.

What would you do in a situation that you were being bullied? Please, don't be quiet. It is crucial to ask for help, like we learned in the video. With the big idea of bringing awareness to bullying, this may comfort people that they have people who will care. I remember, my cousin used to be bullied. In the event that she didn't want to go to school anymore and eventually moved to a new school. This is completely not fair, no one should have to go through this. I am thankful that she was able to speak about this to her family. Carol Todd mentioned, there is always hope. I agree. Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. - Desmond Tutu

Cyberbullying has been apart of our lives since 2007 yet people still brush this off. After watching the document about (cyber)bullying I have concluded that the big idea of the film was to stand up to (cyber)bullying. It doesn't matter if you're the victim or it's someone else, without speaking out you won't get the help needed just like Amanda Todd. (Cyber)Bullying can occur to any one of us without any reason, like for example the little girl in this school I knew. Still in 1st grade, two boys around her age were laughing at her for recycling. After I'd been told this I tried to comfort her. We later both went to a staff and told them about the situation, we didn't know exactly who it was but letting the school know of such acts occurring in school was still important and the comments eventually stopped. Stop the (cyber)bullying, because you are worth it. You know that they don't know who you are, you yourself only truly knows who you are so don't let other peoples words brainwash you and almost end your life like Brooke getting phone calls at 3-5 am nonstop. Personally, nothing will come out of hoping they'll change because if you could try and stop it why rely on them to change?

I think the big idea of the film is to consult an adult if you are cyber bullied. Evidence is that the experts in the film recommended to talk to parents or a trustworthy adult if you are getting cyber bullied. This is the message I interpreted from the film.

Cyber bullying has been and still is a problem that we have had to face from the moment we were exposed to the internet. All though it is sometime unintentional it hurts the exact same way. Why would the short film "The Dark Cloud" expose us more? Well it did to show us what is really happening, it is better to be realistic about thing and not look at the positive sides only. If we know what is bad we will learn how to stop it, in this case learning how to stop a bully, or more specifically a cyber bully. You need to be aware of your surrounding at all times. I think that because there is toxic people all over the internet and they tend to hook to people they want to mess with, so it is better to be invisible in the internet. I also think that because in real life bullying can get physical all though bullying is being mean to someone, it does not involve physical assault. Though in some causes bullying goes hand to hand with physical assault. That is why you should stay aware in case things get physical.
