Transformations

Today, you learned a second strategy for rotations. Using tracing paper really helps visualize the new image after you have completed any transformation. Today, it helped you visualize where your image would be after you completed a rotation. Review the posted video so you fully understand the three transformations we have covered in class.

1.) POST A RESPONSE:

In paragraph form, explain the difference between the different transformations we have learned in class. (translations, reflections, and rotations).
Your paragraph should include certain mathematical terms that are required for two of the transformations.
Edit/revise for the givens.

What's the difference between a translation, reflection, and rotation? They're all different ways you can change a shape. First a translation is just moving a shape, side to side or up and down. It's a really simple, and quite obvious change in the previous shape. For example, you can move a shape two units up, and two units left, and that would be called a translation. A reflection sounds just like the name. It's reflected off of either the x or y axis. If you have a shape, and the instructions say to reflect if off the y axis, you basically flip it over the y axis. Last, a rotation is a really simple concept as well. You are instructed to find a point, and rotate your shape from the point!

Yay math! No transformations please..... Oh well it's my PAR and I don't want to get arrested by the PAR Police soooo I'm gonna have to do it :(.
We learned about three different transformations: Translation, Rotation and Reflection. A translation is a movement of a point or shape. The shape itself will not change but the placement will change after a translation. A rotation is a transformation where you turn a shape on a certain point. A reflection is just like a mirror. When you are reflecting something, there must be a line that you must reflect on. It is sometimes on said to be on either axis' which means the line of reflection is on the axis. It may seem all of these are pretty complicated but it's pretty easy when you know how to actually do it!

Boy.... Math, this section isn't my most knowledgeable part so I'm not sure if it makes sense. Transformations, there are many ways where a shape or anything that gets moved to another point. So far we learned three different ways. Translation, rotation and reflection. You may think that they are similar but they actually aren't. There could be variety of options when moving them but you never know. A translation is when a shape or a point slides to another certain point. The shape won't change but the where it's placed will be different. A reflection is basically a mirrored shape. The shape flips or reflects just like how it would in a mirror. It has to be equal and should be the same distance away from your reflecting point. The line of reflection could be from the x axis or y axis line. Lastly, rotating. It's just turning the shape/point. For example if a shape is supposedly to turn 180 degrees it would be on the opposite side of the shape. It seems confusing but to me when I got used to everything in this unit it seems kind of straight forward. (not just straight forward cause I'm still in the process of actually not messing up my answers.)

My P.A.R.
So far in math, we have been learning about transformations. The transformations are translations, rotations and reflections. Recently we learned rotations. If you are a bit confused on what I mean by translations, rotations and reflections don't worry. I'll explain it all to you now. A translation is a shape that is moved by an amount of units left to right and/or up and down. All the vertices need to move the same amount to form the shape. For example, if on vertex moves 2 units right and 5 units down, then all vertices should move the same amount. Have you ever turned a door handle? You were preforming a rotation. Congratulations! A rotation is a shape that is rotated around a fixed point. Last but not least a reflection. Basically it's just a shape flipped over the line of reflection. A reflection must have a line of reflection in order for it to reflect. So the difference between all of these is that a translation is where every point in a figure is moved exactly the same amount and in the same direction without being rotated or reflected, a reflection is where a shape is flipped over the line of reflection and a rotation is where a shape is rotated around a fixed point.

So a translation is where you move the shape without reflecting it. For example you can move a shape 2 units up and 7 units left. A reflection is just a reflection of the shape and how you reflect a shape is you basically flip the shape in the next quadrant. Lastly a rotation. A rotation is where you rotate the shape using you using your rotation point. If your rotation point is (0,0) then you rotate it and put in the next quadrant ccw or cc. So there quite different but a translation can do what a rotation can do but not a reflection and a reflection can’t do anything a translation or rotation can do. Also a rotation can sometimes do what a translation can do only if the translation did what the rotation can do or else the rotation can’t do what a translation can do.

There are 3 transformations in math (translations, reflections, and rotations) and they are all different. Translations means to move the shape places. Reflections means to mirror the shape over the x or y-axis. Rotations means to turn a shape around a fixed point. So they're different.

Transformations. Hmm. That word kind of reminds me of transformers. So does transformation mean shapes transforming? Not really. In math there are 3 types of transformations. Reflection, Rotation and Translation. Reflection is when a shape is flipping/reflecting over a line of reflection. The line could either be the y axis or x axis. Rotation is when a shape rotates around the center of rotation. The center of rotation is just a point where the shape has to rotate around and can either be in the shape or outside the shape. Now lastly, translation is when your shape moves from one place to another. The shape can move right, left, up or down. Also when a question asks you to describe a translation it's basically asking you how many units it moved. For example, you can respond by saying, "The shape moved 2 units right and 5 units up". This is describing an translation. Now that you have knowledge of transformations go put it to use in the real world.

"What is the difference between a translation, rotation, and a reflection teacher?" Let me tell you Jimmy. A translation is where you move the shape, by units around the Cartesian grid. When translating the shape can't be rotated, or reflected in any type of way. Reflections are essentially when you flip the shape along x-axis, and the y-axis. It's kind of like when you look in a mirror and you're hair is parted to a different side. To end it all off, you have a rotation. And a rotation is kind of like a translation but you're moving it around a point; (0,0) is quite common to rotate a shape around. But the difference between a rotation and a translation is that the shape can be flipped upside down, even put on it's side. Now Jimmy, do you understand the differences? "Yes Mr. Eden! Yes I do!".

So... what exactly are transformations you might ask? Well, a transformation can be either a rotation, translation or a reflection. Let's start with what a translation is. A translation is when you move a shape either up or down on a Cartesian grid and NOT when you translate something from a different language. For example, say you had a shape with the coordinates A(1,1) B(0,0) C(2,2) and you moved it 2 units up and one unit right. This would be a translation. The new coordinates would have to have primes on them (e.g. A'(2,3)). Now that you know what a translation is, what exactly is a reflection? A reflection is when you reflect a shape across the x or y axis (aka the line of rotation). Since it's a reflection, it's flipped and isn't facing the same direction. Finally, what are rotations? Rotations are basically what they sound like. A rotation is when you take a plotted shape and move it a certain amount of degrees around the center of rotation. The center of rotation is the point in which the shape moves around. It can be inside or outside of the shape. Hopefully, this taught you something (it probably didn't since I'm horrible at explaining things). Thanks for reading my failed PAR!

Translation is when you move a shape, but the shape doesn't change nor does it turn around. It only moves around. Reflection is when the shape gets flipped. It always flips on the line of symmetry. Rotation is when you turn a shape. The shape doesn't change in shape nor does it change in size. It just turns.

People like math, people don't don't like math. I'm one of those people who likes math. So today, I'll be talking about the difference between a transition, reflection and a rotation.

A transition is how much a point, or several points move. Let's say we put a dot at (-3, 2). Our transition would be simple, not to confuse you. Let's say we want to move the dot 3 units right and 2 units down. This would make our dot be placed at (0,0)

A reflection is well, a reflection. Let's use out old example, (-3, 2). Let's say we want to reflect on the y axis. We would end up with (3, 2). Of course the shape has to be rotated as well.

A rotation is where you rotate the shape in the center of rotation. The center of rotation is a fixed point in which other points move around it.

Math. Math is my favourite subject. Why? Well these past few days we have been learning about translations, reflections and rotations. My favorite part of math. Translation is when an object stays the same way except just moves to a different area. So it stays facing the same way. A reflection is when the object is same, but not facing the same way almost like a rotation but it is always 180 degrees. A Rotation needs to have a center of rotations where it almost is like pivoting off of that so that part doesn't move.

Do you know the differences between the three transformations? Reflection, translation, and rotation. Well, whether you know it or not I’m going to be talking about those three transformations. First, I’ll be starting with reflections. Reflection is when you basically mirror your shape over the y or x axis. Secondly translations. This is when you just move your shape and don’t do anything with it. For example, the instructions tell you to move it 3 units right and 5 units up. You just keep the shape and focus on one corner and move it according to the instructions then you plot your other points. Last but not least rotations. I find rotations actually pretty hard to do, but basically what you’re doing is rotating it. For example, it tells you to turn is 90 degrees clockwise. You connect a corner that’s the closest to the centre of rotation and rotate it 90 degrees. You can also use tracing paper to help you. Overall, this isn’t that hard but like I said rotation is the hardest out of the three transformations.

Recently, we have been working on different types of transformations in math. Transformations are movements of a shape or a point. The three different transformations are rotations, reflections, and translations. The similarities of these three different transformations are that you don’t change the shape, which means you keep the same sizes and the same angles. However they do have differences. The simplest is translations. Translations are when you move the shape or point up, down, left, or right. You won’t change anything else about it. When you do a reflection, you just flip the shape or point over a line of reflection. The line of reflection is the line that you reflect the shape over, for example the x axis and y axis. The line can also be x=-3 or x=y. Additionally, you can use a mirror if you can’t visualize the reflection. The third and last type of transformation is rotation. With a rotation, you have to rotate the shape either counterclockwise or clockwise around a center of rotation. The center of rotation is a fixed point that a shape rotates around. I hope that you now understand transformations and that you will be able to perform them in the future.

Do you think translations, reflections, and rotations are the same? If you do, you are wrong. I mean, they do have something in common: they are transformations. They all are ways to change position of a shape. Let me introduce you them and you’ll see why/how they’re different. The first transformation istranslations. Translations move a shape in one position to another. They move by units on a Cartesian grid. You would usually give a set of instructions of how to move the shape. You cannot flip it or rotate it in any way. The next transformation is reflections. Reflections have a line called a line of reflection. It’s usually the x-axis or the y-axis. That’s where you reflect the shape. The last transformation is rotations. Rotations have a point of rotation. You can rotate the shape either clockwise or counterclockwise. You would be given a certain amount of degrees to rotate it in. Now do you see how those transformations are different? I hope you do or else I’ve wasted my time typing this paragraph for you.

Today we learned about reflections, rotations, and translations. I’m going to REFLECT on what I did and I will TRANSLATE it for you. A reflection is pretty straight forward. The basics are there is a line of reflection it is usually on the X or Y axis and the shape is usually an opposite depending on what quadrant the shape is on. It is important to take note of the letters on the points. A rotation is rotating a shape by specific degrees. The center of rotation is inside or outside the shape. The center of rotation can be a specific place on the grid or be on the center of the grid (0,0). A translation is moving a shape up, down, left, and right around the grid.

What is the difference from a translation, reflecton and rotation? Well a translation is where you move it where your objective is but you dont rotate it or reflect it. A reflection is like a mirror because its called a REFLECTion. Mirrors reflect right? A rotation is when you have to rotate the shape like 90° or so on but you have to rotate it with the line of rotation which is where the x and y axes meet.

Do you know the difference between translations, reflections, and rotations. If you are not clear,let me tell you by introducing all of them. Let's talk about translations. It is a shape that can actually move left,right,up and down. So basically,if you saw a shape that were in the different locations,then you know that it will be a translation. You can also know that the shape went how many unit down or left... Then,let's talk about reflection. It is a shape that flip across the line or point,which means it actually create a mirror image. For example,if you are facing the mirror,you raise your left arm up,when you look at the mirror,you might see that you are racing your right arm,and it was basically the same thing as reflections. Lastly,let's talk about rotations. It is a shape will turn. This is usually turning to clockwise or counterclockwise. For example,if there is a shape and you turn it 90 degree,you should see that the shape was having a big difference than before because you turn it so that called rotation. Now,you should know the difference between them,you might think that they are quite similar,but when you actually get used to it,you will know the difference.

Today we learned about translations, reflections, and rotations!!! Its super COOL!!! Jk. It's not. Its boring BUT important so I shall lecture you on this SLIGHTLY boring subject. Rotations is when you spin something on the CENTER OF ROTATION,like how in some creepy movies a coffin spins. But not quite. anyways,a rotation is when you rotate on the CENTER OF ROTATION.A reflection is literally a reflection. You need to reflect something on a certain point that is usually given on the question like question 18.) Rotate shape x on the y axis. Translation is when you move something. No spinning sadly. Now this concludes another terrible and boring but slightly important unit on math.

So far we’ve learned about 3 different transformations: Translations, Reflections, and Rotations. They’re all do different things, which make memorizing how they all work somewhat difficult. So, how about I tell you what the three of them do? Translations can move a shape up, down, left, right, and everywhich way, as long as it doesn’t tilt, or change shape while it’s transformed. Reflection is what happens when a shape is flipped across the X, or Y axis. It’s kind of like the axis becomes a mirror. Rotation is in my opinion the hardest of the three. It is when the shape turns clockwise, or counterclockwise around the centre of rotation. And there you have it folks, just remember the difference of these transformations and you’ll be acing your math tests in no time~

Translations is where you move somewhere with units. Reflections is where you 'flip' your shape over the X access or Y access. Rotations is where you (like the name) rotate your shape using the center of rotation.

Ahhh math is hard... Anyways, today we learned about translations, reflections, and rotations. Let me tell you the difference, first, translations is when you move one shape left, right, up, or down. If you are going to explain it, here a example: (number) units up, (number)units left. It doesn't matter if you say it backwards too. Second, reflections is when you have a line of reflection, and you just turn the shape around. It's like looking at yourself in the mirror, it's alway backwards. Third, rotation is when you have a center of rotation, and you rotate the shape around but your center doesn't move. Now I guess I get it, do you?

I'm sure everyone knows what it means to rotate things, or to translate them, or reflect. But I bet many people don't know what this means in math terms. If you have a square on a grid and you want to roatae it, there will be a fixed point that it rotates around. This is the center of rotation. Try to imagine that your shape and your center of rotation, say, a pencil, are conected. You can then spin it around as much as you want.
In math, translating simply means moving in a vertical or horizontal direction on your grid. No strings attatched. (Ha ha no pun intended?)
Refecting is similar, in a way. You choose either the X axis or the Y axis to be like a mirror, and the shape is reflected facing the opposite direction in the exact same place on the other side. Just like how a real mirro works. Easy enough, in theory...

Math. There’s math everyday. And OoF! We’ve met a hard opponent to face this time fellows. Translations, rotations, and reflections. In order for all of us to ace and understand this concept, I shall explain. Translations are not what you think they are. They are not a translation between to languages! Instead, it’s the explanation of a shape moving up down, left or right around the Cartesian plane. Rotations are a shape that rotates with a center of rotation. Reflections are a shape reflected onto the other side of the X or Y axis. That was an easy introduction to each of the different types. Hope you learned something new!
