On Friday, students continued working on inferencing and transferring over their visible thinking from their activity sheets to their graphic organizers. They also said. "See you soon!" to their teacher candidate, Mr. T. He will be back regularly for visits and will teach for an extended period of time in the Spring time. Today, students made progress on their brainstorming for art and their first drafts. Gr. 7 students started their FSAs and will complete them this week. In the afternoon, choir students were with Ms. Chung and the other students worked on their body systems and ecosystems projects.

Roy Lichtenstein is an artist that introduced 'Pop Art" in the 60s. Here are some facts about him. He was born on October 27, 1923, and died on September 29, 1997. When he was still a child his mom used to take him to museums and exhibits so, he was inspired to create his own art. He first started using the art style, cubism. His university's name was Ohio State University aka OSU. Where he met someone named Hoyt L. Sherman, who has a stylistic approach to art. When he graduated OSU, he was asked to be an instructor at New York State University. In 1949, he married Isabelle who worked in an art gallery in Cleveland. Then in 1951, they moved to Cleveland where his wife had a successful career but he had stopped teaching. Instead of teaching, he worked part-time jobs. Later on, his son challenged him to create a Mickey Mouse drawing that has to be better than the comic book itself. When he published it, people started criticizing him and was called a copycat. There was also a newspaper the titled "Is He The Worst Artist in the US?" He then wanted to draw boring things and make it better. He also used Ben-Day dots in his art to make it look like it was made by a computer. Fun fact, he created more than 5000 paintings in his whole career! That's a lot of paintings!

If this artist was living in 2022, he may be sued for copyright issues. You know why? He was accused of copying others work in his drawings. That artist was Roy Lichtenstein. May him copying other artworks be true or not, he was famous for his pop art style with onomatopoeia and ben day dots. Born in New York on the year of 1923, his mother brought home to many places like museums that later inspired his career. When he was young, he studied in Arts students league with Reginald marsh. Later, he further pursued his career by studying in Ohio state university. He created over 5000 prices of artwork during his lifetime, the first few which were heavily criticised of copying other artworks. That may be true but I believe there is still a reason why Roy is so famous, because he has his own unique style. But gradually, people started to accept and appreciate his work.
His work introduces pop art to many people including us, ans I can’t wait to create my own Roy Lichtenstein inspired artwork!

Roy Linchestin is a magnificent pop artist but what made his art so unique and special?

Although the art techniques he used in his art are not original, I'll be listing down some of the iconic techniques that Roy Linchestin cooperated in his art.

First of all, benday dots! Are you aware what benday dots are? They are literally just dots but the cool thing about these dots are that they can be used for shading, colouring, and even backgrounds! Did you know benday dots make illusions aswell? The colours you'd usually see in pop art are red, blue, and yellow which are also called the primary colours. Using tiny red benday dots and blue benday dots you can create and illusion of the colour purple!
Second, he used lines! But not any regular lines. He used bold lines, thin lines, straight lines, squiggly lines and all sorts of lines. But what makes these lines so special in pop art? Big bold lines can create the 3D affect in something while small lines can be used for details! Cooperating all sorts of lines with your drawings can make them look like they are popping out!

Roy Linchestin wasn't always known to be a inspiring artist but he was known to be a copycat. He didn't listen to the negative feedback and kept drawing pop art and became successful later on. Unfortunately he passed away on September 29th in 1997, he still inspires other artists in general with his amazing art.

I personally think Roy Linchestin's art look absolutely stunning but another thing I learn from him is that if you follow your passion it will always lead up to success if you don't give up.

Who is Roy Lichtenstein? Roy was a famous artist, best known for his pop art style. Roy Lichtenstein was born October 1923 in Harlem, New York.

At a young age, Roy was exposed to art through art exhibitions and plays, shaping him to be an artistic and grow up appreciating art. In 1940, Roy went to study art at the Art Students League of New York. After he was done studying there he went to Ohio State University (OSU) where he met a teacher who reshaped his styling approach to art. Around this time he was deeply influenced by popular artists at the time like Picasso, Courtier. He then went back to OSU to complete his BFA so he could instruct people about art. He even assisted in teaching at New York University (NSU). A little while later in 1949, Roy gets married and moves to Cleveland where they have kids. One night, his son challenges him to create a comic panel better than the original, titled "Look, Mickey!". This is ultimately what jumpstarted his career into what he is known for today, a pop artist.

At first Roy was heavily criticized for his artwork. They called him a copycat, and even went as far as to call him "The worst artist in the US". Despite all the critics, he kept gaining popularity, simply for his unique and creative art style. He used Ben-day dots to make his panels look computerized and he succeeded. He would also take the most boring stuff, like uncooked steak, dishwasher, and he would improve or alter it. There were other elements he used too. he used primary colours, thick outlines, and onomatopoeia, which is when you use words to describe sounds. Using these elements, he was able to create Pop art.

In total, Roy Lichtenstein created a whopping 5000 paintings in total during his impressive career. Roy passed September 1997, and has still had a lasting legacy today due to his remarkable contributions to pop art.

Roy Lichtenstein. When I first heard of that name, I thought he was a famous celebrity, or someone from the royal family. He's quite the opposite though, apart from the celebrity part. Roy Lichtenstein was praised for his art, and still is to this day, although unfortunately, he is no longer with us today.

Roy Lichtenstein wasn't always famous though, he started off as a young boy who developed a passion for art. He grew up to study at the Art Students League of New York. He started off with cubism, and after transferring to a university in Ohio. He began to develop the pop art style. No one is successful at first, including him. He was heavily judged and mistaken. He was known as the 'copycat artist', since he would recreate war comic scenes and turn them into pop art. He would use starbursts, Benday dots, and only use primary colors, blue, yellow, and red. He continued receiving criticism, but never gave up so he eventually started becoming a famous artist.

His pieces now sell for millions of dollars, his most famous ones are: WHAM! Look mickey! and drowning girl. His most expensive piece sold for a whopping 165 million dollars! I mean, if I sold my art for that much, I think I would retire a week after getting my first job. Now you know who Roy Lichtenstein is, not a rich born wealthy man, but a man who was heavily criticized and worked his way up to wealth. RIP Roy Lichtenstein! (sorry for the late response)
