SCIENCE TEST FRIDAY

5/25/2022

We started the day off with our class photos, team photos, and school-wide photo. It will be great to have these since we haven't been able to take regular ones over the last few years. You will have your chemistry test on Friday. This will include the vocabulary you have been working on this week in addition to the lab activities you have been doing. Depending on how far we get with the pH lab this week, the test could be postponed until Monday.
IMPORTANT:

2.) MATH: Any assigned work.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

We have been talking a lot about the learning process this year. Our hope is that you are at the 'OWNERSHIP' phase now or are almost there. Please explain if you feel you are at the ownership phase and explain why or why not.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain if I am at the 'OWNERSHIP' phase of my learning.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:

1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/conclusion
2.) GIVENS: Spelling, capitals, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
3.) BODY: Includes at least 2 supporting points and examples.
4.) SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give one sentence as a reply to your original paragraph stating if you
met the criteria or if you need to improve.
5.) PEER-ASSESSMENT: Give at least one other student feedback to improve.
6.) REVISION: Post your revised/improved version. This does not mean change a couple words or
simply copy and pasting your original again.

Ownership is a big part in life.
That is why you should learn how to self regulate and own things when you are little and in elementary school. I think I am definitely reaching the ownership faze faster since I moved close to Mr. Hong. It is half his fault and half my fault. I should have owned it and new that I couldn’t self regulate with friends or near them. I will continue to self regulate and own my learning for the rest of the year. Every one should too.

Ownership is a big part in life.

While it isn't exactly the idea of what we define ownership as, it's pretty similar. Ownership is an important part of your life and will be a very beneficial skill. While I don't think that I have fully reached the ownership step, I do believe that I'm on the right path to, and will soon reach it. I think this because while I'm able to take ownership of my learning, I think that I still don't fully know and understand what the entire meaning of ownership is. I know that it is when I am able to use all the Big 6 Learning Principles on my own, but it feels as if I don't fully understand. Not only this, but I believe that sometimes I'll skip a few steps, or not ask for peer or teacher feedback unless reminded or told to. So, I'm a bit lacking in that area. I'm also not always self-assessing my work, so that also plays a role in why I don't believe I've reached the ownership phase. Overall, I think that I'm doing well, and that it won't take too long for me to be able to fully be at the ownership phase.

Ownership is such a vital skill to have and maintain throughout our lives, and will, as a result, lead us to success. Now, although I feel as though I have improved greatly in learning how to use the Big 6, ownership is, in the end, the biggest part. So, following that, I don't think I have fully reached the ownership phase yet, even though I know I am on the right track. To add, I do think I am taking more responsibility for myself and my work, which has helped guide me on the road to ownership. However, there are a few parts that I can't quite piece together yet. For example, I still hope to improve on being able to ask questions frequently and request for feedback. Responsibility, independance, learning. What is the one thing that connects these ideas together? It's got to be ownership! Being able to completely understand the meaning of taking ownership of your learning is a complex concept to grasp. This is because the term ownership doesn't just refer to one action, but rather a collection that people should follow. In my opinion, learning about the Big 6 Learning Principles throughout this school year has definitely increased my background knowledge to the point that I can almost take full ownership of my learning. For example, I am now mostly able to use the Big 6 (learning intentions, peer feedback, etc.) to improve my work without constantly needing to be reminded. On top of that, being able to take responsibility and credit for my work is another reason I think I can accomplish the actions needed to be at the ownership phase. To further explain, I've improved by work habits since the beginning of the year because I now ask questions when I need help more frequently and I also use my time more wisely. Despite that, I'm still a few steps away from being fully in the ownership phrase of my learning because I still find it slightly challenging to define what "ownership" really means. Just recently, on the PAR of March 24, 2022, we talked about what we can do to reach ownership. Although, I never quite answered the question, "have I reached ownership?" Anyhow, I feel that already, in the 24 hours since I have written about what I can do to fully achieve ownership, I feel that I have already improved, and am working towards absolute ownership. Therefore, I am officially in the ownership phase. To illustrate, I have spent less time procrastinating on screens, I am attempting to go to sleep earlier, and I am trying to do more work at home. Furthermore, for the most part, I am accountable for my work, and do it to the best of my ability. Most recently, I feel especially efficient in my Novel Approach. As we have been told many times, ownership isn't simply a skill for school. We can't merely give up on it at the end of the year. Ownership is a life skill, and we will all benefit from achieving it. We can. And we will.

FEEDBACK: I would say to add a more engaging hook at the beginning of your paragraph. While you can keep the first part, it would be better to really engage the reader.

SELF-ASSESSMENT: I can be more concise in some areas, but also add more details.

According to Oxford Languages, the definition of ownership is "the act, state, or right of possessing something." But, in Mr. Hong's class, it is taking responsibility of your learning. Just recently, on the PAR of May 24, 2022, we talked about what we can do to reach ownership. Although, I never quite stated whether or not I have reached the ownership phase. Accordingly, for the sake of it, I will; I feel that I have reached the ownership phase. To illustrate, I am spending less time procrastinating on screens, attempting to go to sleep earlier, and I am trying to do more work at home in addition to the work I do at school. Furthermore, for the majority of the year, I have been accountable for my work, and complete it to the best of my ability... even if that means staying up until midnight. Which brings us back to me trying to procrastinate less. Recently, I noticed that I am not staying up as late to do homework, which I feel could be a result of less procrastination. Anyhow, speaking of accountability, I think that I have been especially efficient and organized with my Novel Approach, which, in my previous book, was challenging near the end. So, to everyone else, ownership might simply mean possession. Be that as it may, the grade sevens of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary, 2022, think of it as a skill. And, as we have been told many times, not simply a skill for school. We can't merely give up on it at the end of the year. Ownership is a life skill, and we will all benefit from achieving it. Ownership is something we all need to be successful. As we all are going to high school really soon it is crucial to reach the ownership phase of learning. What does ownership mean anyway? Well, I think ownership mean's when a person takes responsibility for their learning and makes good decisions to help them work and learn better. Another example is, in the beginning of the year the we didn’t even know what is the Big 6 Principles to how we understand them right now. I still need to work more harder with the PARs and I should manage my time better. Furthermore, I think I am one step closer to the ownership phase. And I am only a bit further from reaching the ownership phase.

Over the past year, something that has been emphasized from the Big 6 Learning Principles multiple times in our class, is ownership. Ownership is when a student takes responsibility of their learning, to grow and improve. From the beginning of the year to now, I think I have improved and have reached the ownership phase in my learning. For example, I have kept up with all my work throughout the school year, and have only missed a few PARs; and I work hard and try my best on all of my schoolwork. Another thing that I do that shows ownership is asking questions in class when I need help, or something is unclear, because I know it won't benefit me to sit there and do nothing. I also am focused in class and most of the time and on task, because I want to minimize the time I have to do work at home. In conclusion, although there are still a few things I can improve on, I think I have reached the ownership phase in my learning.

In that case, I Myself am not at the full ownership phase yet. I still have many things to learn and work on to improve my understanding and help me reach ownership. The Ownership level is the last one on the Big 6 learning principals which means it is one of the most important principals to learn. I used ownership for figuring out an inquiry question for the belief systems lesson in social studies. As much as I tried, I could not come up with a good question, but I kept trying until I found a very interesting question. I have been following the Big 6 about nine months and finaly I am at the last phase which is ownership. Ownership is basicly taking responsibility of my own learning and be able to explain the learning process.I can decently explain the first five parts of the Big 6. In spite of this, I don't think I have reached Ownership yet. The main problem is that I am not really asking questions. The first thing I think of when I have a problem is not to ask help but to figure it out even if it is wrong. This was a very big problem for the first few months but I am now slowly getting comfortable to community and asking more questions. In grade 8 I am moving to a new school and every one there is new to the school, so I don't think I will have any trouble making friends there in highschool. Anyways I will be working hard to reach ownership and I know that the day will come soon.

I have done this writing about ownership like a month ago I don't really remember. But one thing I do remember is that I kept on asking for more time for projects cause I was procrastinating. Recently I have been doing my NA and my yesterday's par but I also have skipped my last NA booklet. I feel like I am in the middle of taking ownership and not. I don't lie about homework now but I don't do it as often. Just last week I got a homework paper from Mr. Fisher for no completing math but I got it done afterwards. In conclusion I think I sometimes take ownership and sometimes don't.

“Home ownership is a cornerstone of a strong community.” Over the past school year, students in Division 1 have been striving to reach full ownership of their learning and to take responsibility for what they do. As of now, I think that I have mostly reached ownership. Although I may slack off on some days when I am tired, I often take responsibility for what I do. Throughout the past two years, I have improved vastly in reaching ownership because I learned about the Big 6 Learning Principles and how to take advantage of them. For example, before Grade 6 and 7, I never asked for feedback from my friends regarding my work nor have I constantly checked the success criteria to see if I met the requirements. Therefore, I didn’t know what I needed to improve; this was a big problem because I couldn’t actually see as much progress of my learning as I can now. Because I currently know that the Big 6 is crucial to learning no matter what subject it is, I now use it often and have seen how much more I learn through using the Big 6. However, on some days of the week, I forget to apply the Big 6 to my learning. Especially in the feedback process, I sometimes think that it is tedious to go around and ask for descriptive feedback. Therefore, as the year is ending, I will make sure that I ask for feedback whenever possible and finish the year off strong! To conclude, I think I have mostly met ownership but could benefit in asking for more feedback from my peers.

This year we've been all learning about ownership, the final thing we need to do is to be able to achieve it. Ownership is the last phase of the big 6 learning principles, we had heard of it countless times throughout the year. I have not reached ownership in my learning yet so I will try to achieve that by the end of the to get ready for high school. I think I have reached all other parts of the big 6, so now, last but not least, is to take ownership. Ownership is a crucial part of the big 6, without taking ownership, all the other parts will end up useless. I'm currently trying to do my best on all assignments, I think I am on the right track to reach ownership and end the school year better off than it started. I will try to ask more questions and improve the feedback part of my learning. I will ask for peer feedback when doing an assignment. In addition to this, I would like to take ownership and review what I've learned to not forget about it in the future. I would do more self-assessments and learning reflections to reflect on what I've learned. these are the things I would like to do to achieve the final phase of big 6, ownership.

Ownership is so important in school and I think it personally has helped me accomplish things I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this past year if I hadn’t been taught about it. The reason I think it’s so important is because if you don’t take ownership towards your learning you might not do as well as you want to in elementary, highschool, or even college. Although, you may think that you’re there already there’s always more you take responsibility and ownership of. If I am being honest I think I am almost at the ownership phase. To illustrate, I have been better at writing down in my planner what we have to do, keeping up with my work most of the time, and there’s so much more I have taken ownership of. Ownership is an achievement in our learning. But ownership is not only for school. Today were talking about Ownership in school. Ownership is a part of the Big 6 Learning Principles.Taking a good influence on my learning. For these past couple of months I don't think I achieved Ownership yet,I know that it will take a lot of time to process, and I'm pretty sure I'm halfway there. I should take a good care of my learning, and I should not procrastinate, because majority of my time i procrastinate a lot i do unnecessary things like playing games, even though I have homeworks.
I always forgot to do my PAR and i missed a lot of things like i forgot to give someone a feedback PAR’s.
Sometimes I'm a little bit behind in my Novel Approach.
So how do you think you can achieve ownership?
I have a better idea to help me to achieve my goal to get ownership, by starting to do my assignment first before i play games, and sports. And during my Homework time i should not procrastinate at all. Focus to my work, not take a long time to do homeworks, don’t pause.
