Stop working on math if you start seeing this. ;-)

Self-regulation is not just about your behaviours. Self-regulation also applies to your 'LEARNING'. Learning requires a great deal of self-regulation of the 'BIG 6' learning principles. Remember, learning takes time. You are just becoming familiar with the BIG 6 Learning Principles. These new learning tools will help you on your road towards 'OWNERSHIP'. By the end of the year, will be very 'SELF-REGULATED LEARNERS'! Keep up the good work!
1.) MATH:

Watch and listen to this song. It should be #1 on your Spotify Music Playlist!
Complete a maximum of 3 pages. If you have already done this, you have no math homework.
Work on your Divisibility rule booklets for 30 minutes. If you have an answer key, mark and correct at home.
Use different strategies to complete your work.

2.) LA/WORD WORK:

Continue working on your word analysis for the work.

3.) FRENCH: Quiz tomorrow.

4.) SCIENCE:

Plant I.D. Test on Friday.

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you learned about the routines and expectations for each 'INQUIRY' period.
At the end of each period, you share out what you learned with your 'KNOWLEDGE BUILDING CIRCLE'.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:

Post 1 thing you learned from your research today.
Also, post 1 thing thing you learned from someone in your group.
Pay attention to the givens (grammar, capitals, punctuation, sentence structure, etc)
Edit/revise your own post based on a 'SELF-ASSESSMENT' of the above criteria.

The interesting thing I learned was that crickets, starfish and worms can regrow limbs. My group didn't get to share anything. :)

Today I learned about how rain appears, and the water cycle. The sun shines on the ocean, and the water evaporates, to form clouds. Then when the clouds get to heavy. Water droplets fall making rain! After that the water seeps underground or goes to the ocean again, continuing the cycle. Our group didn't really get to share much though.

I learned today that in the 1980s their were 2 people that claimed they created bubble tea and that there was a fight about it. I also learned that the tapioca in bubble tea can give you cancer. One more thing I learned is that boba pearls are made out of a root vegetable called cassava and when you cook the pearls they turn translucent!

There are so many things that I didn’t know about sleep and dreams! Today I learned that while you sleep, your eyes look around in different directions. When your eyes are looking around, that is when there is the most brain activity which leads to dreams. In our Knowledge Building Circles I learned from Maxwell that the early humans had found a way to use weapons to hunt animals? I don’t really remember what he said but I think it was something along the lines of that....

Today we had our first actual research session for inquiry. One thing I learned,Vietnam and China each manufactur 36% of Nike shoes worldwide.

I learned that there are much MUCH more many types of soap that I thought there were. I learned from one of my group members that bubble tea can kill you and give you cancer.

Inquiry started, so I started researching and learn that money was created in 5000 BC. One thing something in my group (Brieana) shared with me is that there are different types of discrimination.

Today we had our first inquiry reader h session. First we got together with our knowledge building circle that were selected by Mr.Hong, Mr.Fisher and Mrs. Altman. These groups were made based on who’s topics where similar or relevant. Next we filled out our daily work plan, for each day you must be very specific on what you are doing. Following that, we had to get our sheets signed before starting research. Lastly we researched for about 10 ish minutes depending on witch group you were. My question is “how are basketball shoes made”. One of my sub questions was were was it made? Something I learned was Nike shoes biggest manufacturing countries are Vietnam and China. Each making 36% of Nike shoes worldwide! From Mealea i learne that tapioca pearls in bubble tea can cause cancer.
That baisically sums up today’s inquiry session!

Today we got in our knowledge building circle and started researching for our inquiry. I learned that there are a lot of fabrics made out of plastic. I also learned from my group mates that people actually used to make soap with animal fat.

Today I learned through my own research that there are two main types of genetic mutation. The first one is hereditary which is have when you are born while acquired is a genetic mutation that you get in your life. Something i learned from my group members was that " breathing is important to our living".

Today in inquiry we found out our groups! I was in a "How-To" group. One thing I learned about my question ("How were new colours discovered/invented?") was that the first colour ever discovered was violet, by a man named Issac Newton in 1370. I had so many more questions after that such as; "Did they even have colours before the first one was discovered?" "How did he supposedly 'discover' that colour?" One thing I learned from one of my group members was that hair dye works from chemicals entering your hair cuticle, then entering the hair cortex. The colour then adds to your hair.

Today I learned about how that people with a stronger sense of humor become less depressed and anxious and that Your immune system gets a little boost just from laughing It increases your bodies production of anti-biotics and T-cells that fight off diseases and boost up your immune system.

Today I learned that chameleons body is a leaf like body shape and it helps them camouflage, but that's only one thing on how chameleons camouflage. Something I learned from Kayd in my knowledge building circle is that crickets, starfish and and worms can actually regrow their limbs.

Today I learned that Arctic Wolves are more different than other wolves than I expected. One of them were its ears. Arctic wolves have smaller ears to reduce losing heat. It basically means less cold air will go into the Arctic Wolves ear.

Today we had a inquiry session with Mr.Fishers class. I learned that cedar tree bark is a good resource to build with and was used a lot by the First Nations a while ago. And I learned from Sophia that Vietnam and China sum up most of the manufacturing for Nike shoes.

Today I learned the meaning of multiple words since the website I was using was using a lot of words I didn't really understand and some of them are called alkali, ferrous, conversion coating and black oxide. Those words helped me understand what calcium is. One of my group mates shared the knowledge they gained and it was that people can be born blind because of genetic mutations, birth defects, premature birth, nutritional deficiencies, infections and injuring and people who can't taste are called ageusia usually because neurological fact and taste buds aren't properly linked to the brain. That was what I learned today and what my group mates learned today from the knowledge circle.

Today I learned that herbivores will happily eat meat but if they eat too much bad things can happen including death. I was in the same group as Kayd so the same thing happened with me.

Today in my group and while researching, I learned two things. First, I found out that trebuchets are stationary siege weapons while catapults can be moved. As for my own research, I learned the Burj Khalifa was based off a plant called Hymenocallis Littoralis otherwise known as spider lilies. This is what I learned when I was talking with my group and researching.

Today we had another inquiry lesson with Mr.Fisher and Mr.Hong. My inquiry question is why do people cry? I learned that tears can be triggered by a variety of things.
1.Emotions. For example, sadness, anger, or happiness.
2.Reflex. For example, onions, wind, or smoke.
3.Basal. Basically meaning we produce tears every time we blink.
Something that I learning from my knowledge building circle is that people will a better sense of humour are less likely to be diagnosed with depression. I also learned that there are two types of genetic mutations.

Today I learned about the many unique ways animals communicated, such as using sound, touch and even a form of communication called "chemical communication", when an animal leaves it's scent around some areas to mark their territory or attract mates. Sadly, however, we didn't get to discuss much in our KBC as time ran out and we had to pack up. Hopefully we can all share next session.

Today I learned that
1. It is true that reducing red meat consumption can lower your risk of heart disease.
2. Eating a vegetarian diet may also lower your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer.
3. Vegetarians also lack in certain nutrients, basically not getting enough B12, which is found in dairy and meat products.

Today during our social studies inquiry lesson we were given about a good 30 minutes to research and to gain some new background knowledge. My group members include Longman, Max and William, I think I was paired in a good group because me already know each other quite well. Our group is on how things work.

During the given time, I began to study medical and ancient siege equipment, if you do not understand what this means I will give a quick example, let’s say you are a strong force of Roman hoplites, catapults, trebuchet. Now the hoplites are just civilian soldiers, catapults on the other hand are a small 5 man armed artillery piece/ siege equipment, the catapult is small ballistic weapon used to launch projectiles a great distance away for them, how ever this weapons does not require gun powder as this was ancient and medieval era, in other words catapults use the force of a sudden release of a rope being pulled down by the men assigned to it. This was a very popular weapon in medieval times, tens of countries took this opportunity to make their own variants of the catapult.

In conclusion, I learned how catapults work and what kind of destruction they can cause. I think I am going to give myself a 1.5!

I learned that the parts of a rocket are the structure, payload, propulsion, and the guidance system. And my group members didn't share anything.
