Just today, I’ve learned improper, mixed, fractions and add/sub fractions, and I’ll use my knowledge that I’ve learned to explain how to do them. Firstly, I’ll explain how to convert a mixed to a improper fraction. (Improper is when the top number is larger, or the same as the bottom number) when converting, the first step is to times the bottom number by the whole number. Let’s say if 6 was the denominator, and 3 was the whole number, then you’d have to multiply by 6 X 3 which equals to 18. Once you’ve multiplied those, you add the top number by the multiplied answer. 18 is the answer, and if the numerator was a 8, you will have to add them. 18+8=26, therefor 26 would be your final answer. Adding and subtracting fractions. When coming across a question like that, first thing you’d wanna look at is the denominator, if the denominator is the same then there’s no need to change it, but if they were different like 6 over 5 and 4 over 3, then you’ll want to look for the lowest common factor for 5 and 3. By looking at the two numbers, you can easily tell that the lcm was 15, but let’s say you didn’t know exactly how to find the lowest common multiple. Listing out the multiples for 5 and 3 is helpful to find the GCF or LCM. Once you’ve finally found the LCM, you’d have to multiply the top number by the numbers you’ve multiplied to get the lcm. 15 is the lowest, so 5 X 3 =15, so you’ll have to multiply the top number by 3 and same thing with the other one. After that, everything goes pretty smoothly, you add the two answers and then that would be you’re final answer. So far, that’s what I’ve learned, but I won’t bother explaining all of them.

How to add and subtract fractions when the denominators are different.

First you list all the LCM ( lowest common factor) of the two denominators.
Second you put the lowest common factor of those two numbers beside your fraction and then see what the differences are between them. Then same to the top as you do to the bottom. Then do the same to the other fraction and that will make the denominators the same and then add them up. This is the steps for adding fractions that have different denominators. If you want to subtract fractions with different denominators do the same but subtract.

FEEDBACK : The first sentence is not "(lowest common *factor*), it's lowest common MULTIPLE. 2 and 4 are factors of 8. 16, 32, are multiples of 8. If it was factor, it would be LCF, but it's LCM.
FEEDBACK 2: Add some examples. Add examples to support your statements and make the more visual, instead of simply stating the steps.

To solve an adding and subtracting fractions you will need to find the LCM frist for the denominator before you do the other steps for example like if I had 1/2 + 1/3 the LCM of 2 and 3 is 6. If we are doing subtraction we would do the same the for example if I had 1/4 - 1/5 the LCM would be 20 so it will be like this 1/4 - 1/5 = 5/20 - 4/20 = 1/20 and sometimes you would also have to reduce fractions sometimes. These are the steps.

Knowing, and most importantly, understanding how to compare fractions can be a huge advantage in life. It may not seem like it, but it does if you think about it. This advantage can be especially helpful if you have a job like an accountant, or an engineer, or any other job that requires you to do these kinds of calculations. Just like learning to walk, it may seem hard at first, but with enough practice and repetition, you can compare fractions without even thinking about it. The first strategy that we'll start off with will be the "LCM Strategy." To do this, you must find the LCM (Lowest Common Multiple) of all of the denominators of the fractions you are comparing. See what number you multiply each denominator by to get the LCM, and multiply each of their numerators by the same number. After you do that, all of the fractions should be much easier to compare. The second strategy on how to compare fractions is called the "Cross Multiplying Strategy." Before I explain, note that this strategy only works when you are comparing exactly two fractions. Cross Multiplying is quite simple, actually. It is when you multiply one fraction's numerator by the other fraction's denominator, and vice versa. The product that you get belongs to the fraction that you multiplied the numerator with, not the denominator. The fraction with the larger number is the larger fraction. In case you're confused, let's look at an example: 2/3 & 3/5. 2 x 5 = 10, and 3 x 3 = 9. Therefore, 2/3 is equal to 10, and 3/5 is equal to 9. This means that 2/3 > 3/5. The last strategy that we'll talk about is the "Convert to a Decimal Strategy." The title is literally what you do when you use this strategy; you convert the fractions to a decimal. This makes it much easier to compare the fractions. To convert a fraction to a decimal, you must divide the numerator by it's denominator, and then you're done! This strategy is easier to use if you have a calculator. Hopefully, you can use one or two of these strategies sometime, and perhaps you'll see just how useful they can be.

How do you add/subtract like and unlike fractions? First, the most important part about add and subtract fractions is what Mr. Hong sang, 'You do same to top as you do to the bottom!'. Second, when subtracting unlike fractions, change the denominator to the LCM of all the denominators. For example, 1/2 + 2/8 = 6/8 which it have to be reduce into 3/4. A procedure I do before doing any questions that include fractions is identify, find LCM, solve, and reduce if needed. It is simple, there are only three steps included do same to top as you do to the bottom, solve, and reduce.

How do you add/subtract like and unlike fractions? First, the most important part about add and subtract fractions is what Mr. Hong sang, 'You do same to top as you do to the bottom!'. Second, when subtracting unlike fractions, change the denominator to the LCM of all the denominators. For example, 1/2 + 2/8 = 6/8 which it have to be reduce into 3/4. A procedure I do before doing any questions that include fractions is identify, find LCM, solve, and reduce if needed. To clarify, if the question is 1&1/3 + 2& 5/6. First, I will identify the question type, this question is an unlike mixed fraction addition question. Second, find the LCM, the LCM of 3 and 6 is 6. Third, rewrite then solve, 1&1/3 + 2& 5/6 become 1&2/6 + 2&5/6 which equal 3&7/6. Last, reduce, 3&7/6 have to be reduce because it is an improper fraction. Therefore, 4&1/6 is the final answer. There are only three steps included do same to top as you do to the bottom, solve, and reduce.

This is the answer but it could still be converted to a mixed fraction, 1 11/20. . First you need to add the numerator. The numerator is the number on top and the denominator is on the bottom. And the denominator stays the same. For example, 2/3 + 1/3 . 2 + 1 = 3 so 3 is on top and 3 is on the bottom so the answer is 2/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 = 1 whole. You should always simplify the fraction instead of leaving it as something with really big numbers. Another example is, 3/8 + 4/8 . 3 + 4 = 7 so 7 is on top and 8 is on the bottom so 3/8 + 4/8 = 7/8. And that example can't be simplified any more so we just leave it as 7/8.
Now a mixed number fraction is similar to just adding fraction. For example, 3 2/3 + 4 1/3 . First for that question we add 2 + 1 = 3 so it = to 3/3 . Then we add the whole number. the whole number is the number on the left 3 + 4 = 7. After 3/3 = 1 whole so we add 7 + 1 = 8. So 3 2/3 + 4 1/3 = 7 3/3 = 8 wholes. That is how to add mixed fractions. first you have to find the LCM of the two numbers, then you multiply it to get the LCM. Next you subtract or add the fractions. For example 1/8+3/4 you would have to multiply the four and three by two then you would have 1/8+6/8 so you answer would be 7/8. But you dont change the denominator.

How do we add and subtract fractions? First of all, it’s actually quite simple because if you have a question that has this equation: 5/7 - 3/7= 2/7 and an example for adding is like this: 4/9 + 4/9= 8/9. It is really simple but if you have an equation that has 2 different denominators you have to find the least common multiple. An example of a question with 2 different denominators could be like this: 1/4 + 2/3. In order to get the answer, you have to find 4 and 3’s most common numbers and I found out that it was 12 because you could do this: 4,8,12 and for 3 it’s 3,6,9,12 and then 1 (numerator) becomes a 3 because you have to divide the LCM by the denominator and 2 (numerator) becomes an 8. Firstly, Find the LCM of the denominators.
After you do that, do the same to the top as you do to the bottom, let's say you have 1/3 and 2/4 find the lcm (12) 3x4 is 12, do the same to the top as you do to the bottom, so you would get 4/12 and for 2/4 you would get 6/12. So now that you got both answers you can compare.

To add and subtract fractions with different denominators is actually quite easy. In this paragraph I will be talking about how to do it. First, you take a look at both numbers's denominator. For example 2/4 subtract 4/10. The denominators are different, so you find the lowest common multiple(LCM), which is 20 because I did calculation, and make both denominators 20. First fraction 2/4, you multiply the 4 by 5 to get 20. As Mr. Hong would say "you do the same to the top as you do to the bottom.(enthusiasticly)" you multiply the numerator(2), by 5 which is 10. Second fraction 4/10. You multiply the denomitor by 2 which makes it 20. Then I do the same to the top as I did to the bottom. I multiply 4 by 2 which is 8. I get 8/20. Last but not least, the subtraction. I subtract 10/20 to 8/20, denominator doesn't change, it becomes 2/20. It is that simple! And this is how Mr. Hong taught me how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators.

How to solve add and subtract fractions?
Always remember that the top is the numerator and the bottom is the denominator. It's only an addition but in this case the numerator will add and not the denominator. Denominator can't change. Only the numerator can here's an example 2/8+5/8= 7/8 because 2+5 is equal to 7 as I said the denominator doesn't change only the top number. How about subtracting? it's the same thing but you're subtracting, Example:5/4- 3/4+ 2/4 because 5 minus 3 is equal to 2. Same thing as addition: don't add the denominator only add the numerator which is the top number. Another example:
5/14+ 9/14= 14/14 because you see how I add the numbers I didn't change the the denominator I only changed the numerator. What is Simplify proper fractions? You just keep dividing the and dividing until you're reach the smallest number and find what number can divide both of them. Example: 48/84 48 divided by 3 equals to 16 and 84 divided by 3 is 28 so that's already 16/28 keep going! 16 divided by 2 is 8 and 28 divided by 2 is 14 so we have 8/14 is there a number can divide both of them? The answer is yes, 8 divided by 2 is equals to 4 and 14 divided by 2 is equals to 7. is there any number that can divide both of them? The answer is no, there's no digit that can divide by 7 but 4 can divide by 2. But you need to divide both of them. Our teacher said "Do the same to the top as you do to the bottom." Then you would have to multiply the denominators and numerators by their other factors that would make the product equal to the LCM. First, find the LCM for the fractions you will be adding or subtracting together because the LCM of the fractions will be the common denominator, also if the fractions denominator are the same you just need to add or subtract the numerators together and keep the denominator the same . Second, to explain the second step I need to make example. For example your adding 4/10+3/10 and since the denominators are the same, you add the numerators together and leave the the denominator the same so the answer would be 7/10. If the denominator are different like another example 6/8+2/3 find the LCM which is 24 and because 8x3=24, you do the same to the top as you do to the bottom, so you would get 8x3=24 and for 2/3 you would get 16/24.
