Today, students saw trailers of different documentaries to give them some ideas of what they could possibly learn about. They will be embarking on an inquiry into ancient civilizations over the next month or so. They will research different aspects of their chosen civilizations that they feel helped build each of them. After reading Weslandia, the students brainstormed what they could research and these items included religion, government, laws, schools, economies, agriculture, food, and culture to list a few. Tomorrow, they will review the rubric for their assignment so they know exactly what is expected of them.
1.) MATH:

Complete pg 288 - 289 #1-5 and 7-11.
Show all your work.
Check your answers with the answer key from the back of the textbook.
Complete your corrections.

2.) NOVEL APPROACH:

Give your other group members descriptive feedback on their powerful responses directly on their Google Documents. The feedback you give them should be based on the criteria sheet.
Make edits/revisions based on the feedback you receive.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

We listed several ancient civilizations you could choose for your projects. (China, Rome, Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia, and India). If you prefer to research one not listed, feel free to talk to me about it.
Find 3 interesting innovations/inventions that one of these civilizations is responsible for. This can be a website, YouTube link, National Geographic Link, Discovery education link, etc.
Provide your reliable source links.
Explain what each invention is and how it has affected our lives today.

Makeup was used for both genders men and women but they weren't just used for fashion they were used for practical purposes as well. And makeup was all so used to protect your skin from the sun. Makeup is clearly used to this day.

The umbrella was invented 3500 years ago by Lu Ban. He was inspired by a group of children using lotus leaves as rain shelter.

A man named Zheng Heng invented an earthquake detector. It is use to pinpoint the direction of an earthquake. It can detect an earthquake thousands of kilometres away.

1) The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe.

The Julian Calendar .
Once roman were the biggest civilization of ancient times. Then realised they need a calendar of they're own! It didn't help to put months with odd numbers. They did that because they thought even numbers were bad luck. The one they made is also similar to the modern Gregorian calendar. But the roman calendar dates go back then 2,000 years. After they were sure they wanted to keep this , they played with it in till 46 B.C. As they were just about finished they realised it was miscalculated by 11 minutes! This lead to one thing to another , then lead to leaping years.

7a.) An opposite integer is exactly that. The opposite integer of +7 is -7. I'm sure you all remember this from the integers unit at the beginning of the year. If you are given the point A (-3, +5) the opposite points would be A'(+3, -5).

b.) Simply plot the new points a

c.) Explain the pattern you see after you plot the points. What do you notice about the x coordinates? The y coordinates? Do they make a shape? Are they a certain distance from the x-axis? y-axis?

d.) If the x coordinate increases, what happens? If the y coordinate increases, what happens?

The Great Wall of China was made about 2,000 years ago some of the bricks are still standing there you know why the bricks are there still there it's because they use stick rice just like Logan said.

China is a big country there population is 1,388,232,693 right now In this time that is a lot of people in China now.... Why you ask it's because people get born everyday and people die everyday.

China is one of the largest place in the world there space is 9.597 billion km there that is really big its bigger then some country in the world but if you put China next to America not including body's of water so that means China is the biggest country the American.

Fact:
In Egypt, not everyone was mummified, because it'll take a lot of time to do it, and it's also expensive. Some people was just buried in the desert.
Egyptian inventions:
1.) One of the early Egyptians inventions that affected our lives today is Papyrus, the first durable sheets of paper to write on. It affected our lives because now we can write or draw on paper instead of any other material.

2.) One of the invention of the Egyptians was black ink. They also made a lot more colors and they made dyes. How it changed our lives today is that without ink or dye, we can't color our clothing, hair, and we can't make pens!

3.) The Egyptians also invented a calendar more than 5,000 ago. It was a 12 month Lunar cycle. They grouped the months into three seasons of four months that seemed to coincide with the Nile River.
How it changed our lives is that if a calendar wasn't invented, we wouldn't know what month, week, year, or day it is! We wouldn't even know our birthdays!

Greece

One of the inventions that are originated from ancient Greece is an alarm clock. I believe that Ctebius, a Hellinestic engineer and an inventor made this. As shown in my research, he developed an elaborate system of dropping pebbles on to a gong so that, it'll make a sound. This sound was set to happen at a specific time intervals! This invention helped a lot until this day.

The second one I found was a water mill. It was made in Greece (3rd Century BC). Earlier, the portions of the mechanical treatise on this particular water mill, described by Philo, were regarded to have Arab origination. But recent research by British historian M.J.T. Lewis proved that the water mill is an authentic ancient Greek invention.

The last but not the least, a Greek person made a map and his name is Anaximander. He drew what he knew. He practice Cartography (is the study and practice of making maps. It has played an important role in travel and navigation since ancient times).
