Today, all students had an opportunity to make paper kites and to fly them outside. Click here to see a quick video of all of you haveing fun and being kids. This was amazing to see, especially because the fun didn't include a screen in front of the students. Keep having fun outside and enjoy learning!

Egyptian civilization has flourished continuously since prehistoric times. While the civilization's rulers, writing, natural climate, religion and borders have changed many times over the millennia, Egypt still exists as a modern-day country.

The civilization has always been strongly connected with other parts of the world, bringing in and exporting goods, religions, food, people and ideas. At times ancient Egypt ruled territory outside the modern-day country's border, controlling territory in what is now Sudan, Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Palestine.

Egypt, one of the most known countries in the world in the northern parts of africa. Following the hammurabi’s code, a law made by Hammurabi himself, the Babylonian king. It’s a very brutal rule. To make it easy to explain the definition of Hammurabi’s code, I’m just going to make it shorter like this. If a person were to take an eye from another citizen/ally the victim will have the rights to take an eye out from the culprit. So basically If I were to break someone’s ankles then they would have the right to break my ankles LEGALLY. Very well, on to the lesson.

Egypt was discovered in June 18, 1953 by the British partially then came the egyptians and Alexander the Great (I’ll get to that later.) and ruled over it. Before that it was splitted between Libya, Saudi Arabia, and the Nile River where war happened for 6 days. After the war, introduced the Non-Aligned Movement which is a group of states that don’t tolerate Government Power. Meaning that they are now against Governments trying to change other countries

Rome has MANY laws but I'll be talking about the 12 tables.

Rome looked like a city that wasn't built well. It was a city with random buildings here and they're like one second you have a court then a tiny shack next to it. People lived really close to each other in Rome since Rome isn't really big.

HAMMURABI’S CODE OF LAWS

1. If any one accuses another of murder but cannot prove it, then the accuser shall be put to death.

2. If anyone accuses someone else of sorcery, the accused shall leap into the river, and if s/he drowns the accuser shall take possession of the accused's house and belongings. However, if the accused reaches the shore unharmed and the river thus proves that the accused is innocent of the charges, then the accuser shall be put to death, while the one who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house and belongings of the accuser.

3. If any one brings an accusation that involves a capital murder charge and does not prove what he has charged, the accuser shall be put to death.

5. If a judge tries a case, reaches a decision, and presents his judgment in writing but later an error is found that is the judge’s own fault, then the judge must pay twelve times the fine set by him in the case; in addition, he shall be publicly removed from the judge's bench, never again to sit on the bench nor render judgment.

6. If anyone steals anything from the temple or the court, he will be put to death, and also the one who has received the stolen goods will be put to death.

7. If anyone buys from the son or the slave of another silver or gold, a male or female slave, an ox or a sheep, an ass or anything, (without witnesses or a contract)... or if he agrees to take charge of stolen property, he is considered a thief and shall be put to death.

21. If anyone breaks into a house to steal, he will be put to death before that point of entry and be buried there (walled into the house).

22. If anyone is caught while committing a robbery, then s/he shall be put to death.

what Indian government was like in the Harappan period. Probably they had a king over each city, as in West Asia at the same time. Probably they had some queens, as in Egypt at this time. By about 1500 BC, after the Indo-European invasion, all of the people in India seem to have been divided up into castes. We know this from the Rig Veda. Only men from the highest caste - the Brahmins - could be rulers in the government, or even ministers or clerks in the government. These men did not allow women to rule either. Most of India was still divided into small kingdoms, each with their own king.

Roman art includes architecture, painting, sculpture and mosaic work.The expensive things like metal-work, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass are called minor forms of Roman Art. Sculpture was considered as the highest form of art by Romans, but when they found out about painting it was also very highly regarded.

There was something called ' the Twelve tables". This is what they went by. But before this they developed they're language by the Greek government, this happened before the 7th Centry AD. The development of Roman law contained more than a thousand years for it to be legal,from the Twelve Tables to the Corpus Juris Civilis ordered by Emperor Justinian I. This Roman law, the Justinian Code, was effective in the Eastern Roman Empire , and also served as a basis for legal practice in continental Europe, as well as in Ethiopia, and most former colonies of European nations, including Latin America. But before the twelve tables Romans had a private law that only roman citizens could only use.This was because of they're religion. But soon after that they found out about laws. Today, they do not use the twelve tables.

It has undergone continuous development since at least the 11th century BC. The most significant event between the 7th and 11th century was the Tripartite struggle centred on Kannauj that lasted for more than two centuries between the Pala Empire, Rashtrakuta Empire, and Gurjara Pratihara Empire. The Code of Hammurabi (also known as the Codex Hammurabi and Hammurabi's Code), created ca. 1780 BC ( short chronology), is one of the earliest extant sets of laws and one of the best preserved examples of this type of document from ancient Mesopotamia. Still earlier collections of laws include the codex of Ur-Nammu, king of Ur (ca. 2050 BC), the Codex of Eshnunna (ca. 1930 BC) and the codex of Lipit-Ishtar of Isin (ca. 1870 BC).
It shows rules and punishments if those rules are broken, the punishments could be as little as a fine or as big as sentencing to death. It focuses on theft, agriculture (or shepherding), property damage, women's rights, marriage rights, children's rights, slave rights, murder, death, and injury. The punishment varies depending on the class of offenders and victims. For a comprehensive summary, see Babylonian law.
The laws do not accept excuses or explanations for mistakes or fault: the Code was openly displayed for all to see, so no man could plead ignorance of the law as an excuse. Few people, however, could read in that era (literacy mainly being the domain of scribes).
Hammurabi (1728 BC–1686 BC) felt he had to write the code to please his gods. Unlike many earlier and contemporary kings, he did not consider himself related to any god, although he did call himself "the favorite of the gods." In the upper part of the stela, Hammurabi is shown in front of the throne of the sun god Shamash.
The laws (numbered from 1 to 282, but numbers 13 and 66-99 are missing) are inscribed in Old Babylonian on an eight foot tall stela of black basalt . It was discovered in December 1901 in Susa, Elam, which is now Khuzestan, Iran, where it had been taken as plunder by the Elamite king Shutruk-Nahhunte in the 12th century BC. It is currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.
The code is often pointed to as the first example of the legal concept that some laws are so basic as to be beyond the ability of even a king to change. By writing the laws on stone they were immutable. This concept lives on in most modern legal systems and has given rise to the term written in stone.
The Code of Hammurabi was one of many sets of laws in the Ancient Near East. Most of these law codes, coming from similar cultures and racial groups in a relatively small geographical area, necessarily have passages that resemble each other. For example, the laws found in the later Hittite code of laws (ca. 1300 BC) have some individual laws that bear a passing resemblance to those in the Code of Hammurabi, as well as other codices from the same geographic area. The earlier Ur-Nammu, of the written literature prolific Ur-III dynasty (21st century BC), also produced a code of laws, some of which bear resemblance to certain specific laws in the Code of Hammurabi. The later Mosaic Law (according to the modern documentary hypothesis ca. 700-500 BC - under Hezekiah/ Josiah; traditionally ca. 1200 BC - under Moses) also has some laws that resemble the Code of Hammurabi, as well as other law codes of the region.

Ancient Egyptians loved board games!
1.) After a long day’s work along the Nile River, Egyptians often relaxed by playing board games. Several different games were played, including “Mehen” and “Dogs and Jackals,” but perhaps the most popular was a game of chance known as “Senet.” This pastime dates back as far as 3500 B.C. and was played on a long board painted with 30 squares. Each player had a set of pieces that were moved along the board according to rolls of dice or the throwing sticks. Historians still debate Senet’s exact rules, but there is little doubt of the game’s popularity. Paintings depict Queen Nefertari playing Senet, and pharaohs like Tutankhamen even had game boards buried with them in their tombs.

2.) they may have been publicly and socially viewed as inferior to men, Egyptian women enjoyed a great deal of legal and financial independence. They could buy and sell property, serve on juries, make wills and even enter into legal contracts. Egyptian women did not typically work outside the home, but those who did usually received equal pay for doing the same jobs as men. Unlike the women of ancient Greece, who were effectively owned by their husbands, Egyptian women also had the right to divorce and remarry. Egyptian couples were even known to negotiate an ancient prenuptial agreement. These contracts listed all the property and wealth the woman had brought into the marriage and guaranteed that she would be compensated for it in the event of a divorce.

The life of a pyramid builder certainly wasn’t easy—skeletons of workers commonly show signs of arthritis and other ailments—but evidence suggests that the massive tombs were built not by slaves but by paid laborers. These ancient construction workers were a mix of skilled artisans and temporary hands, and some appear to have taken great pride in their craft. Graffiti found near the monuments suggests they often assigned humorous names to their crews like the “Drunkards of Menkaure” or the “Friends of Khufu.” The idea that slaves built the pyramids at the crack of a whip was first conjured by the Greek historian Herodotus in the fifth century B.C., but most historians now dismiss it as myth. While the ancient Egyptians were certainly not averse to keeping slaves, they appear to have mostly used them as field hands and domestic servants.

Egypt laws
1.) When a dispute was settled in lower court, both sides were heard, and a common sense decision was made by the lower court based on the facts presented. However, if you did not like the decision of the lower court, you could come before the Vizier on a first come, first served basis, and present your case again. Even though the Vizier tried to be fair, it was not smart to come before the Vizier unless your case was serious, and you had evidence to show that the lower court's decision was in error because the Vizier's decision was final. You could end up in more trouble than you were in already by demanding to have your case heard in the high court.

2.) A serious case would be if you were found guilty of something and your punishment was exile. If that was your punishment, your children would be exiled with you. If you believed the punishment did not fit the crime, you could plead your case in front of the Vizier. The Vizier could reverse the decision of the lower court. The Vizier also had the power to find you guilty, but give you a lesser punishment. But, if you simply brought your case in the front of the Vizier to buy yourself some time, your punishment could be increased rather than decreased.

Our word “paper” comes from the Greek word papyros, or as we write it today, papyrus — which was the writing material created by the ancient Egyptians. Papyrus sheets were made into scrolls which would be filled with writing — on everything from religious texts to literature and music. The ancient Egyptians did not share their secret of how to make papyrus, though, so that they could sell it to other peoples. If everybody knew how to make it, there wouldn’t be much of a market to sell it to! The word “kohl” is still used today. They also made green eye makeup by combining a mineral called malachite to color the ointment. To the ancient Egyptians, the more color worn by a person, the higher the social ranking. Even the statues of gods and goddesses wore makeup.

3.) The ancient Egyptians’ civil calendar had 365 days. There were twelve months in each year and thirty days in each month, with five extra days added the end of the year. Criminal justice necessitated a hierarchy in the judicial system, depending on the severity of the charge. The most heinous criminals could be judged only by the pharaoh, often with the vizier conducting the investigation and turning to the pharaoh for final judgment. In some cases, the pharaoh appointed a special commission with full authority to pass judgment. Punishment for serious crimes included penal servitude and execution; mutilation and flogging were often used to punish lesser offenders.

Although punishment for criminal offenders could be severe—and, in the modern viewpoint, barbaric—Egyptian law nevertheless was admirable in its support of basic human rights. The pharaoh Bocchoris, for example, promoted individual rights, suppressed imprisonment for debt, and reformed laws relating to the transferral of property. His legal innovations are one example of the far-reaching implications of Egyptian law: the Greek lawgiver Solon (6th century bc) visited Egypt and adapted aspects of the legal system to his own ideas for Athens. Egyptian law continued to influence Greek law during the Hellenistic period, and its effects on Roman imperial law may still be felt today.

The pharaoh and the vizier are the ones that conduct the cases but the pharaoh has the right to say if a criminal could pass judgment. But the criminals that were apart of serious crime have to go trough stuff like penalty and other horrible stuff. But a pharaoh named "Bocchoris" liked for people to have "basic human rights". In the 6th century a Greek lawgiver visited Egypt and got influenced on there laws and the lawgiver had "his own ideas for Athens.
