Persuasive Writing MLStudents have already completed a standard 5 paragraph expository essay. We are moving on to persuasive writing. Students will also use their persuasive essays to present a speech. We have reviewed some examples of speeches and examples of persuasive essays by former Gr. 7 students. We have co-created success criteria around both of these and students will soon receive their handouts to begin working on their speeches.
IMPORTANT:
1.) CHURCHILL: I will forward all report cards related to the Gr. 8 registration. If you have applied to a mini-school, you must submit those report cards independently as it is separate from this application.
LEARNING:
1.) READING: Read for 30 minutes and write it down in your reading log.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Letter format (greeting, date, body, etc). Click here to see the structure of a conventional letter.
2.) Written in first person (Use the word 'I' as if you were Harriett Tubman).
3.) Includes at least 3 specific hardships you have been facing.
4.) Include a solution as to how you will get out of slavery (based on your inferencing skills)
5.) Complete a self-assessment of the above criteria and edit/revise your letter as needed.

- Today, you will write a paragraph on what you think Harriet Tubman's life (Freedom Train) was like in the 1800's.
- You should write as if you were Harriet Tubman writing a letter to a family member.
