Today, students participated in the 'RUN FOR HOPE' to support the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. (To be updated). After recess students worked hard on their plant identification projects. It was great to see some students start to ask for FEEDBACK form their peers and teachers. Remember, "OWNERSHIP" is our destination and asking for DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK shows you are taking control of your learning. Tomorrow we will keep working on our science project and I want everyone to ask at least 2 other people for some DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK. You can do it! Watch this video and write a paragraph (introduction, body - supporting sentences/examples, and conclusion) on what you think about climate change and what you think we should do about it.
Pay attention to the givens (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, capitals, etc).
Ask one student a thoughtful question about their paragraph.

Climate change is very important, but not enough people are caring. Climate change can reshape earth. The weather will be more intense and more people will die. At this point, we can not stop climate change, but we can slow it down. We should switch to an alternative energy source. For example, electric planes. We should definitely try our hardest to slow down climate change. Therefore, I agree with the protesters that we should start caring about climate change.

Climate change is something that is happening in the world that can't be stopped but can be slowed down. Climate change is when the heat is getting trapped in the earth's "invisible shield" and bounces off of it and back down to the earth. Thus, it stays in the earth.
I think that climate change is bad for humans (even though it's our fault) and everything on this earth (including the earth). We created climate change, but it would have happened anyway just maybe not as fast. It's our fault and we are only now doing something about it. I mean what's up with that?
I there's really no way to stop it because it will always be there, but we can do something to slow it down. For instance, we can use cars less (but that can only be for some people) and we can also stop sending pollution into the air because it's basically like pouring hot icky stuff into our breathing supply. That's not cool. If we make our city greener then we have a chance of slowing it down but like I said earlier, there's no way of stopping it. There will always be climate change. So in the end, climate change is bad, it has no end and we need to stop polluting the earth.

Climate change is a very important matter and not everyone is helping with it. We can't stop it, but we can slow it down. I think climate change is bad for us for everyone and we all should all start to care more and be more aware of how much we are affecting our world. I think we could switch to electric vehicles instead of ones that use gas or at least hybrids. We also need fresh air and pollution and gas does not make it better. I say that everyone should think of a way to help the earth. In conclusion I think that climate change is bad, if we can stop polluting the air we will have a cleaner, greener earth!

Climate change is one HUGE problem on the planet earth. Its when greenhouse gases go into the atmosphere. As the greenhouse gas bounce off, it creates heat and that`s what is causing climate change. This might seem such a little thing, but the more greenhouse gases we make, the more the earth heats up and that has affect on wildlife, the environment, and us humans. This is why we need to take action as soon as possible.
I think climate change is really bad because it will destroy the earth and I don`t want that to happen. Since we humans were the ones creating this, I think we should be the ones slowing this awful climate change so it does not put as many green house gases as we are right now.
To stop climate change, I think we should take action in the year 2020 because we need a plan like every 2 months everyone should stop doing things that make this crisis worse like eating meat, use gas cars, using single use plastic, using unfriendly cleaning supplies and airplane gas and stuff.

@Sara-This is a fantastic post. You obviously used the PAR success criteria. SO AWESOME! One thing that makes a good piece of writing great is when the writer wraps up their ideas in an ending or concluding sentence or two.

One thing that would improve this piece of writing would be a nice concluding sentence. Try adding an ending that sums up your overall ideas and see what you think. I hope this descriptive feedback is helpful and has pushed your learning forward!

I think climate change can be a huge problem or a really small problem, but people proved that it’s a big problem that might lead us to our extinction if we don’t start the change now. We might not be aware of climate change but it’s happening and it’s happening right now in front of our eyes. There are tons of reason of climate change, but today I’m going to tackle only three big problems. The ecosystem has to be balanced or else something terrible will happen. Today we all know cars burn gas which people dig up as fossil fuel then send to be processed and send to a gas station. We humans drive more than we need and that cause they need to provide more gas so they dig up more fossil fuel and that broke the ecosystem’s balanced. This leads to cars burning the fuel and than creating green house gas which will shoot into the atmosphere and it creates heat. We do need heat to survive but as i said the ecosystem always needs to be balanced or something terrible will happen that’s why we have climate change. We can actually change that by using human power to go somewhere that’s not necessary to drive. The second problem is that people are eating way to much meat these days, you may not know but this really affects climate change. Most of the people in the world eat meat and farmers need to provide them with the meat so they will buy more farm animals. You might be wondering why is that a problem of climate change but just wait. When farmers have more animal on their farms, the more animals there are the more green house gas there will be and it will really affect climate change. Animals like cows, goats, and lambs are especially harmful to climate change because they produce another type of green house gas called methane that is a very harmful type of greenhouse gas. We can change this as well. If you can just eat less meat or at least less cow, goat, and lamb meat or drink less then we can reduce the change of the climate rising. The third problem I’m going to talk about is plastic. This problem is very important because now, so much people rely on plastic. The main problem is single use plastics like plastic water bottles, plastic wrap, plastic bags etc. These things are killing us and the environment around us very fast. With the great garbage patches in the Pacific Ocean we are making the marine animals suffering from our mistakes. Now as more and more plastic just keep on getting thrown into the ocean marine species are slowly dying and we even might be eating the micro plastic that the fish had eaten and mistaken as food. So it all works in a circle, if we don’t change now we might not ever have the chance to help the animals and other people. These are obviously not all the problems and crisis we are facing but every little change can really have a big impact on society. Just like today we were celebrating Terry Fox, he did something incredible with just him. So we can do a lot more to help climate change starting today. If everybody is willing to make a small change then climate change wont be a crisis anymore.

Climate change is an important thing in our planet, every little thing can help slower down climate change. Why is climate change bad? well it causes the weather to change in many areas, for example glaciers will shrink, ice on types of water will break up and trees are flowering sooner than usual. I don't want climate change to happen to our beautiful planet, little changes as using renewable energy is the best choice for the environment. Another example of little things that could slower down climate change, is to grow your own food like carrots! don't waste food or even just eat organic or local food more. Even just using less plastic materials like spoons, forks and straws. My last example is that we would get frequent wild fires and more intense tropical storms and more animals go extinct , this is horrible because everyone would be effected we could get hurt during wild fires or by tropical storms, or even just not having the animals we grew up with because of climate change.

Climate change is a growing problem in our generation, a few small changes in our lifestyles that we can change but first what is climate change? Well climate change occurs when long term weather patterns are altered whether that be through too much green house gases being released in to our atmosphere or through releasing too much carbon dioxide. A few small things we can do are to turn off lights when leaving a room, turning off and unplugging power outlets. In my opinion climate change is like shooting ourselves in the foot. Its something very preventable yet it is still a problem and growing. If all of us make small changes in our life style and putting limits on daily fossil fuel burning a day we can a big differences.

In conclusion climate change is dangerous and inevitable, but if we try to prevent this by reducing electricity intake we can beat this crisis.

Climate change is destroying our planet and we really need to do our part and do something to change that. Today I will talk about my opinion on global warming. I think global warming is horrible and that's pretty obvious, but it's way worse than you think. If we don't deal with it now many bad things will happen and those things will probably ruin our future. One of the things we can do to slow global warming is use more environmentally friendly power sources like windmills, for example. It probably won't stop it but it will help a good bit. There are few things that we alone can do, but if everyone got together and collaborated on making the environment a better place then maybe we have a chance at a brighter future. - save energy by turning off the lights when you aren't using them, unplug all those wires and charging cords when they aren’t in use
- make your daily commute more eco-friendly by walking or riding your bike for short distances, you can even use more public transportation or carpool to reduce the amount of cars in the streets
In conclusion the Earth is melting and you can help slow down that process by using reusable items, saving energy, and making your daily commute more eco-friendly. There is actually a long list of Things to Save the Planet but I just gave short and brief mention of the doable (in my opinion) ones.

The future of our generation is looking dark, all because of one global issue called global warming. Although, what IS global warming?
Global warming is a growing issue, slowly destroying our planet earth. It is caused by many reasons, one of them being burning fossil fuels. When we burn fossil fuels, the heat bounces off of the Earth's atmosphere, allowing the heat to stay inside of Earth. Therefore, the Earth is slowly becoming hotter and hotter, and eventually, will lead to extinction of mankind. Not only are we slowly killing our planet Earth and ourselves, we are also killing many species of animals every single day. Thanks to our ruthlessness, animals habitats are melting, animals are dying, and the food chain is being messed up.
This makes you wonder: well, what can I do about it. There are many small actions you can do that would help, even if it's a little bit. You can reduce your usage of electricity, turn off your lights after you exit a room, avoid plastic, and much, much more. It doesn't matter how small your action is. Just do what you're capable of. Slowly, we will help bring back the Earth to it's original state, and end global warming.

Overall, global warming is a huge global issue happening in today's society. I think that if we all contribute even a LITTLE bit, it can make a huge difference. :)

Climate change is slowly killing the earth in general the ice caps, the ozone layer, killing animal species and well raising the temperature. Scientists say that we have around 12 years fix what we have done and if we don't then the earth will slowly die and so will we. I personally think climate change will take us over because all the people who are supposed to take of this stuff actually won't until its to late. The solution to climate change could be to eat more less meat filled meals, don't waste food you can still use, grow some of your own food, ride bikes, scooters, skateboards and other thing that don't use gas.

There's this quote from a movie I like, and it went along the lines of, "The mass extinction we feared has already begun. And we are the cause. We are the infection." Except this is no movie. This is real, the world really is ending, and it will take us with it. It's all because of what we humans have caused, resulting in a problem known as global warming.

Climates are changing, heating up, and it's not just in one area, it's the entire world. Because of this, animal habitats are being destroyed, such as the ice caps melting, and even forest fires. It's not only effecting the animals, however, as ice caps melt, the water rises. Many towns and cities will be flooded PERMANANTLY. At this rate however, it seems impossible to stop global warming, although we can still slow it down. Even the simplest things like not littering and turning off the unnecessary lights would help delay global warming.

Climate change is slowly destroying our world. We can all do our own part to delay it though, and if we don't soon, the world, the animals AND US will all be destroyed.

Climate change is a huge problem that is happening right now. With all the problems that we humans are causing, they all lead up to one catastrophe: Climate change. The Earth is warming up and if we don't stop it, it will set off a chain reaction of irreversible events. Simple things like recycling and saving electricity won't do anymore. We must stop using gas and polluting our planet. Stop dumping sewage and plastic in the ocean. Reduce our emissions. For thirty years, everyone has known that these things must be done, but no one has taken action. Greta Thunberg's speech has and will inspire many people to finally work to save the Earth. It may be too late, but at least we will know that we have tried our hardest and the results are our responsibility.

I think climate change is a hug problem on earth and I think the governments should do something about it like make some things illegal if we don't need it and it emits greenhouse gases. Since if we don't do anything about this humanity will eventually in the future the humanity will go extinct and we they won't be able to do anything about it since it's all ready too late because if we don't do anything right now humanity will end. Millions or more years of technology just gone. Because of the humans that kept making greenhouse gases and caused the world to end. Humanity will restart if the process that created humans repeats it again. Then all the process we made everything spew had wasted, so that's why I think we should do something about climate change and the government should also do something about this before it's too late to make a difference.

@Boswell- At the part where you said " the government should do something to make the things we don't need illegal" instead of saying " make some things illegal if we don't need it and it emits GHG" instead say " make some things illegal if we don't need it and if it emits GHG". And maybe instead of starting your sentence with "Since" you could just start it with " If" and add a comma after the word "humanity" ( the first humanity word on your second sentence) and after that comma add an "It". I also think you could change your sentence ( the second one) a little bit because some words might not be needed just so that it will make more sense. You should also add a "that" after " then all the process THAT we made everything spewed and wasted". Other than that good paragraph! 🙂

Climate change is happening because we are emiting GHG and its making earth warmer cause climate change. One of the things we are doing that is emitting GHG is burning fossil fuels
We need to stop burning as much fossil fuels as before to save earth and to stop other things that are also emitting GHG. We don't need to stop every single thing but at least stop some of them to help save earth. I think the goverent should make some things illegal if we don't need it and it emits greenhouse gases. If we don't do anything about this humanity will eventually in the future will go extinct and we they won't be able to do anything about it since it's all ready too late because if we don't do anything right now humanity will end. Unless we can adapt to floating cities that of which resources will be so hard to produce and find it we won’t even be able to make Up single wooden platform.

12 years. 12 years is all the time we have to make a change or else our sins will be irreversible. Climate change is one of the biggest if not the biggest issue on earth right now. Every minute there is one dump truck full of garbage poured into the water. If you want to help make a change read the following below

Here are a couple ways you can help at home to reduce the garbage and help the your community and the world.
- instead of taking snacks with ziplock bags to school, take snacks with containers that you can was at home.
- try to avoid buying plastic
-if you are a big Starbucks fan like me buy a reusable cup. They are ranging from $3 to $12. BUT every purchase you get 10 cents off so it will pay for itself AND you are saving the environment at the same time!
- convince your family and friends to John a free orginalization that hells clean you community every week.
- if you can go to the peaceful protests go. It honestly makes a difference, because of protesters the UK issued an emergency to act oppon climate change

Climate change is a problem that we all are facing all over the world. it has been happening for a long time and so far, we have done nothing to try and change or stop it. We are making an impact on earth that can possibly be stopped or re-effected on us and the world. world leaders claim to take action to solve this crisis, but have you seen any change? Yep. Me neither because show no care nor effort to make a impact on earth and our future. Future generations are endangered because of this crisis. Yes. Thats how extreme this issue is. So, i will talk about some thoughts and opinions on this topic.

A few things that we can do to make more of a change in our climate, is to stop burning gasses or oils because they produce carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide which really damages the earth and makes our climate warmer which will effect us in the long run. NASA researchers believe that the sun could possibly be to blame for this crisis. the reason for this is because we as humans depend on energy from the sun to survive our everyday lives. when the suns radiation shines down into earths atmosphere, some energy reflects back into space, some is absorbed and re-radiated as heat, and MOST of the heat is absorbed by greenhouse gasses and is spread in all different directions causing the earth to have extreme climate changes. This theory is called the greenhouse effect and was brought to my attention by NASA. human activities are changing the climate as we speak, but they don't even realize it. Over the last century us humans have made the impact and amount of greenhouse gasses go up. this is due to the increased amount of burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil. which honestly just damages earth more than we think.

In conclusion, global warming and climate change is a huge problem, but the little things count the most. we humans were not put on this earth to destroy and kill. we should be grateful and caring with our only home because there's no second chances for us planet wise. if we had an alternate planet to live on, this wouldn't be too bad because we would have a backup. but because we don't, we must find a way to create a solution for climate change and global warming or us humans can say goodbye to our only home. You don't have to do anything huge or big to make a impact or difference. As long as we all pitch in and do our small parts to make the best impact and best solution to try and fix our mistakes. this issue is like a bruise. you get a bruise and it hurts when you touch it, but over time, with care and patience, it will go away and go back to your regular skin. its pretty much the same thing as climate change. Climate change is the bruise and we are the solution and like i said with time effort and patience, we will make the biggest differences. If we all do a small portion of effort and care, then we can truly make a big difference.

Climate change is real and we need to do something about it

We as humans need to help earth grow but we are taking resources from it and polluting it. Even though we are destroying our plant we aren’t doing anything about it.

But we can save our planet by doing something as simple as using reusable bags, cups etc or joining a good organization.

We might think trying to change is a hopeless cause, but if we do we can change it can make a huge impact.

Climate change is when heat waves goes to Earth and flies off into outer space, but some gets stuck in the atmosphere because of pollution. If we don't want to die quickly then we should get rid of gas and start using bicycles or electric cars. We should stop throwing garbage on the ground and turn off whatever your not using. Please start changing and do what's right for our planet
