THE LEARNING NEVER STOPS

The first few days of school have been absolutely amazing! We have been setting the expectations for the rest of the year! We created some behavioural expectations with C-Charts, reviewed safety protocols, started learning about the Big 6 Learning Principles, and completed several pre-assessments in several subject areas. The purpose of the pre-assessments are to get a baseline of where you are in your learning and is not evaluative. Please check the website on a daily basis for updates! And remember, 'THE LEARNING NEVER STOPS'!

IMPORTANT:

Please bring your own charged mobile device on a daily basis to facilitate your learning when needed (phone, tablet, iPad, laptop for use in class when needed). Keep in mind you are 100% responsible for your own device.

LEARNING:
1.) WITH PARENTS:

Review the class website with your parents.
Explain to them what the 'POST A RESPONSE' is.
Watch 'Austin's Butterfly' with your parent and explain to them how it relates to how you will learn this year!

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

You will be responsible for completing the daily POST A RESPONSE (PAR) assignment. Instructions will be clearly outlined every day.
One of your assignments today is to review the class website with your parents.

LEARNING INTENTION: I can show my parent the class website and explain what I learned about
improving my work today (watch Austin's butterfly with your parents).
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) PARAGRAPH WRITING STRUCTURE
- engaging hook/intro
- body and supporting sentences/examples/points, and conclusion.
2.) CONTENT
- Include who you shared it with and what they said about the class website.
- Include 2-3 points about 'AUSTIN'S BUTTERFLY' and how it relates to how you will learn this
year! Think about how it relates to 'THE BIG 6 LEARNING PRINCIPLES'.
3.) THE GIVENS (Conventions of Writing)
- Check your work for the givens before posting
- The givens are spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.

Right after I got home, I went to my mom and told her about Mr. Hong's website, and we watched the video. I told her about the 6 learning principles, and she told me that my elementary school in holland already used this strategy. Obviously, I was dumbfounded. I had no idea that I had already experienced this type of learning. She also said that it was a great way to teach. So keep it up, Mr. Hong. Just like in Austin’s butterfly they gave feedback, Austin used this feedback to improve on his drawing. We will also do this in our class. Also in Austin’s butterfly, they use the 6 learning principles. I think that the 6 learning is a help full and efficient way to teach.

When I opened this website, I called my mom to come and showed her the website and the video. My mom said that this website has lots of details in it. Getting feedback and doing lots and lots of drafts will help us will get us to improve at things. I think it will be a good year with the Big 6 Learning Principles.

When I showed my mom the website, she gave a gesture like, "pretty good". So then I pressed into the butterfly video. After the video my mom said "This is very helpful, Samantha can definitely learn from feedback and by doing it over and again you can definitely get better and better". Overall she really enjoyed the video and was amazed by Austin's progress. The Big 6 Learning principals seems like a something I would probably use a lot in the future and it also seems like I'll learn better with it.

I went home and I showed this website to my mom, she looked through the website and said that it was impressive that our class had our own website. We then watched Austin's Story, she found Austin's improvement in his drafts of butterflies quite outstanding. We then talked about the 6 learning principles, she believes that this learning strategy is very educational and would benefit our future learning.

This evening I showed this website to my dad. We watched Austin's Story and he was impressed with the results of Austin's many drafts. I think that using the Big Six will help us learn stuff, as well as learning how we learn stuff.

Today, when I showed my mom this website she wanted to explore everything. Even the parts from last year that we haven’t used yet. I then explained to her what the Big Six learning principles were. She thought that these principles would really help with my learning this year. When I showed her Austin’s Butterfly she thought it was amazing how Austin, who is in grade one, could draw such nice butterflies.

I finished a book before I showed my mom the video about Austin's butterfly. Peer feedback was ine of the Big 6 learning principles. Another thing I realized is that on his 3rd draft, he actually did worse than before but he still didn't give up

I showed my mum the website today and she thought it was a good thing to do a little bit of writing in a fun way. We watched the Austin's butterfly video together and she thought it was good because it is important to be open to feedback and people ideas. I am looking forward to see how my work will improve by using the big 6 learning principals this year!

When I got home, I showed the class website to my mom and she said that it was very impressive. It was interesting that Austin improved his drafts by getting feedback from his friends. I found that feedback was one of the Big 6 learning principles, and I am happy about learning those this year.

When I showed my parents the video about Austin’s butterfly and asked my parents what they thought of it, my dad said that it was good that they were telling Austin what to do then what not to do, and my mom said that she thought it was a very effective learning strategy and it can be applied for all ages. I think that the learning process is a very efficient learning strategy and that you should keep on doing it Mr. Hong!

Today I watched a video called Austin's Butterfly with my dad. The video is about a kid named Austin who had to draw a butterfly for a project. The first draft wasn't that good, so his friends helped him by giving him feedback.The video tells you to listen to feedback and fix your work until it's good enough. It tells you this because he kept on fixing his drawing until it looked accurate, he listened to the feed back that his friends gave him, and you could see how much his work has improved. The video includes one of the learning principles, which is giving feed back. My dad said that the website is useful for parents and students for school. He also said that it is well organized and the instructions are clear. In conclusion, I learned that having feedback and learning form mistakes will help you in school a lot.

Today I watched Austin's butterfly with my Mom. The story of Austin's butterfly is that he was supposed to draw a tiger butterfly but at first he just drew a butterfly and than his friends gave him specific feed back and he improved a lot over the 6 try's because his friends gave him specific feedback. I think that this will hep me because i can always ask for feedback and ways to improve. When i showed my Mom the class website.She said it was very informative with clear directives She like's the video of Austin's butterfly because she feel's that I can be like Austin one day. .

Today i watched the story of Austin's butterfly. He had to draw a tiger butterfly. At first, he just drew a normal butterfly, then people from his class told him how he could improve. After 6 drafts he made a more detailed tiger butterfly.

Hey everyone! Today I will be reviewing the class website and watching the Austins butterfly video with my brother and my mom. My mom said that the class website is cool and is very detailed, plus she said that it was pretty easy to navigate with. My brother said it looks pretty sick but he said it didn't look that tidy.

Austin’s butterfly video -

When Austin continues to try over and over again, it relates to how you would find yourself stuck on an assignment and you have to keep on working hard and trying your best to finish your goal. This could occur in this school year, and never giving up will definitely be what we do and learn in this school year.

This video also relates to the learning principle number 5/descriptive feedback. When Austin's friends were helping him, they were giving him giving him details and tips on how to improve and what is improving.

Another reason that this relates to how we learn is how Austin kept on practicing on becoming a better artist. This can relate to me probably in this next school year where I come across something difficult. If this does occur, I will keep on practicing till I master it. You know what they say, practice makes perfect!

A Success criterion would also be extremely helpful while working on things that can be compared. For example, Austin's criteria were the photo of the butterfly which helped him reach and determine his goal. This relates to this school year because this school year I'm sure we will have a success criteria's that we can determine our quality of our work.

Anyways it's getting pretty late for me and I think I'm going to bed so I hoped you enjoyed this paragraph that I wrote, I wish everyone a good and safe day and night.

Today, we are watched a video, it is called Austin’s butterfly. On the surface, this video is a just like a first-year pupil drawing butterflies. But if we think to a little deeper. That is a very complicated story. When Austin finished the drawing, we can see his paintings were not very good. But the teacher still told him, "Very good, Austin, you are done, but I think if you draw the wings bigger it will better than now." Then Austin changed it six times in total. He made the wings bigger, painted the colors, and even draw the stripes on the butterfly. But why does he draw better every time? That is because of the teacher's encouragement and trust. But if teacher just say, “that so ugly, go draw another one.” I believe the result will change. On that day, we had a spelling test. I have a lot of word I don't know how to spell it. When I had to give up. Mr. Bain come to encouraged me, I started to try. Even if I only guessed two correctly, I was still want to thanked to Mr. Bain. these are what I learned in this video, Bye.
