Today, students learned about family life. More specifically, they learned about puberty! Although we didn't have too much time in class for Q&A, we hope that parents can discuss this topic with their children. Parents, please feel free to watch the videos below and discuss them with your children. Students, if you want to review anything covered in class today, please watch the videos below:

Based on the three videos below, why is it important to look at everything you watch/read/consume with a critical eye?
Does it matter who created the video? Why or why not?
What is a biased opinion? Are the 3 video biased? If so, towards which side?
How can you make an informed decision or formulate your own opinion on any given topic? What should you always do?

It is always important to use a critical eye because many people are against this pipeline, and many are for it. So whoever mskes the video, unless they are in the middle, will lean towards one side. That is why it is important to know who made the video and what side they are on.

I think it is important to look at things with a critical eye because if you use one sided information you may be only getting the good things about their oppinion and the bad things about others oppinions. It matters who creates the video because if it is just an average persons oppinoin they might have false infornmation.

It matters to look who created the YouTube video because it could be created by a 9 year old who knows nothing about the topic but make it very official. A biased opinion is not fact but someone's opinion. For example, if you ask a citizen of USA what they think about Canada and they say Canada is pointless, it'll obviously be biased because they do not live in Canada.

The first video (Northern Gateway) is very biased because they only gathered the people who are against the Northern Gateway.

The second video isn't too biased because it tells us about the Enbridge's pipelines and it's created by the actual company.

The final video is biased because they talk about how Canada is risking so much and how they are gambling. It doesn't talk about

The company, "Embridge" has a very bad past. There has been an estimate of 100 spills in one year. They also have been hiding the oil under sand, grass, and other environment.

British Columbia can gamble all of their environment to get 560 jobs. Once the oil pipeline explodes in one of BC's rivers, the environment will never be the same.

It is very important to look at things with a critical eye because they info can be biased.

It is important to keep a eye out for things on youtube for a video on the pipeline because many people are against this pipeline. But, on the other hand some people really want it to go up. So whoever makes the video has to be on one side. That is why it is important to know who made the video and what side they are on and to check there history to see if they are a researcher or someone who lives in van off main street.

It is important to look at things with a critical eye because them you can decide on what side of the story you would support weather then people who are telling the story be biased because them they will make you favorite a specific side.

It is important to look at things with critical eye because many people are against pipe line. Also because you could get imformation about good things, and not about bad things. It matter who created video, because that person can not be professor at this topic, so we can get false information.

It is always very important to understand what you are watching and also to look critically too. But most important of all things is that you must know what is biased and unbiased. Because you could have a video saying goods things about a topic, and then another video saying realy bad things. So you can always re-watch or re-read (whichever you are doing) and then decide if it's bad and or good.

I think that it is good to watch what people put out there because it just make's them look good where they might not have the bad effects. It matters who created the video because if it comes from the actual company or person then you know what they are saying it reliable and good. For the video's obviously en bridge is on there side and whoever wants the oil to go through the pipes and will pay the price and risk will be on en-bridges side also. I think that you should always start out with having the goods and bad's, After that people will think of other effects to the environment then to the economy then the wild life and it will just go back and forth.
How can you make an informed decision or formulate your own opinion on any given topic? What should you always do?

It matters who made the video because if they are against the pipe line then they will only say bad stuff. But if they are for the pipeline than they will say all good stuff about it. Also it could be fake information.

It is always important to have a critical eye when you read and article or other things that have two or more sides because it could be biased and can convince you to like only one opinion. It does matter who made the video because say it was a 10 grader who made it would most likely be biased and un factual, but if was a university profeser then it would be un biased and factual. The videos are biased because they all are on one side. Biased means that it's only on one side of a multi sided opinion. To make a un biased opinion you need to find the pros and cons of the topic and talk about both.

It's important to look at things with a critical eye so you can find the facts or things you need to spot important from the video or image or text. It can be a useful strategy when finding facts. We'll it does matter and it doesn't matter. The reason why is so you can see who made it and if it's reliable person who made it. The reason why it doesn't matter is because you don't really need to know who made it sometimes and the facts or info is more important. I'm against Enbridge, so for the 2 Enbridge videos I saw didn't convince me and I say no, but for the people who are against Enbridge, I got very convinced and I say yes. Once my mom had told me to make the wisest decision, you got to think of the wisest decision. So I think we should just pick on the opinion we want to choose.

It is important to look at things with a critical eye because if you don't it could be false info or the wrong info that you are looking for. You also need to look with a critical eye to find the key facts in a book/video. I think that it matters who created the video because the creator of the video could be someone who gives fake information. A biased opinion is an opinion that is making one side sound better than the other.

It is important to look at something with a critical eye because sometimes a video you watch to get research or otherr kinds of stuff could be fake, The video your watching can be a be a joke without you knowing, Also you can look who made the video, or writing and see what they are if they make jokes and fake stuff or they make good reliable stuff. Once you read, or watch something it would be better to research about to know its true. I know some people don't want to do that sometimes because they just want to do something else not research. But some people do research to find out.

It's really important to look at everything with a critical eye because especially in a video, anyone can put it up on YouTube. It may seem reliable but sometimes it's not. The video could have been created by someone who was a student in elementary school. I would much rather get information from a video that was created by a professor. You also need to know what your reading, just because the website might "look" reliable it might not be. Especially if the opinion is biased, then that means the person is on one side. They would only talk about either the good or bad of a topic. Before you decided on information, you should check to see if it's biased or unbiased.

it matters because if you see or hear something incorrect about the video or topic then you automaticly think "oh this is so not good" though when you hear everything about the sides and story then you look at it from a different view.

The Opinion is basically trying to make the other side look better then the side he/she is fighting about.
you should always know all facts about each side, know if you are getting the right information and looking at it from both sides.

It is important to look at things with a critical eye because you never know which information is reliable and which information is biased/not true.

I think that it does matter who made the video because it could be someone who actually isn't educated, or someone who is giving their opinion versus someone who is giving the facts.

A biased opinion is an opinion of your own that is not supported by facts. I think that the Northern Gateway Pipeline video is unbiased and biased in different ways. It is unbiased because they are stating facts about fish and events that can be fixed with the pipeline. It is biased because they are saying that the pipeline can fix problems, but be don't really know for sure.

I can make an informed decision on which side to choose by looking into the sources they provide and do research using reliable websites.

It is important to look at things with a critical eye because if information is not unbiased it could be extremely dramatic, unrealistic, or fake info. It is also important to look at who created the video because you want to be learning from someone who is well educated on that certain topic. I think that those videos are all biased because they aren't talking about the pros AND cons.

it is important to look at the videos with a critical eye because some videos are only based off of the cons and others only the pros, also you need to make sure that the information is true and it is a reliable source. All those videos are baised. for example the B.Cs huge gamble is against Embridge and the Embridge Northern Gateway Project is of course on their own side.

I biased opinion is someone's opinion but it's leaning more towards one side. Say I said iphone is better then Samsung. Some people disagree and that is just my opinion. I haven't done any research. The three videos are biased because they are all trying to get you to believe what they think. When writing about something you should look at many sources to make sure what you are writing is not biased.

The 2 things I will usally look at in a video is the person who created it is he educated and all that stuff. I will also look is the video biaside because then he would only support the idea he wants he would only show the pros no cons more likely. And that might change your mind if he or she only talks about the one side they support.

Yes they are biesed because they want you to believe there side. Either pro gateway or no gsteway .It is important to take a look at things because you should choose which side you believe in.

It is always important to look at things with a critical eye because you never want to watch or read something that is biased. When you watch a biased video they usually try to pull you toward their side and only tell cons of the other side.

Northern Gateway was pretty biased. They only had people who didn't like Northern Gateway and said all the cons and no good things (pros) about them

The Embridge video wasn't biased because all they really talked about was how safe their pipelines were. They never talked about the bad things about the other side or their self though, so it's is a tiny bit biased.

The BC's Gamble video was so biased. They gathered so many people explaining all the cons of Embridge. They showed someone having a seizure and people crying because of spills. That was a good reason to stop the pipelines, but they never said how much money people will be making and the new job openings that could pay good for people.

You should always talk about the pros and cons on each side in order to make it fair for the person to choose their own side.
